"Popular gourmet sweet spot Black Dog Gelato will open its anticipated West Loop location next week. The new shop, 1012 W. "This summer, Black Dog Gelato, a dessert maker loved by much of Chicago’s culinary elite, plans to open a West Loop location. The shop is taking over the former Harvest Juicery at 1012 W. Lake Street. While owner Jessica Oloroso doesn’t want to disclose much right now, she writes that the location represents “new beginnings” for the company that opened its first location in 2009 in West Town. Oloroso is a former pastry chef who worked at Scylla, the since-shuttered Bucktown restaurant that featured Iron Chef Stephanie Izard’s talents. Oloroso’s gelatos began popping up at farmer’s markets and at dessert menus at restaurants across the city more than a decade ago. She makes creamy standards like vanilla sea caramel and pistachio. But the shop’s known best for Oloroso’s rotating menu of unusual combination like rosemary Irish cream. The fresh start could be referencing expansion plans. Locations in Roscoe Village and at Revival Food Hall in the Loop have closed. There was also the ridiculous situation in Gold Coast in the Chicago Park District space sometimes referred to as the Viagra Triangle. Meanwhile, the original shop at 859 N. Damen Avenue is slated to reopen for the spring/summer in April." - Ashok Selvam

Great place! Awesome area in Fulton market, they just are a bit limited in terms of their flavors. Overall, very tasty and def a good place to checkout while in Chicago

I’m a big fan of black dog gelato and went to their other location often. Lots of experimental flavours which can be hit or miss. My favourite goat cheese cashew caramel was all sold out. So I got unicorn and banana chocolate. Which was fun to try but not my favourite. Please follow my foodie adventures @doctoreeat

Delicious! Also having 11AM-11PM hours every day is bold but the gelato is so good it might make business sense.

I was delighted to find this gelato place!! When you walk in you find out that they indeed make all of their flavors fresh!! I had the birthday cake in a cone & my friend had the king cone & it was SO smooth, creamy & delicious!! Will def be coming back again!!

Cute little place. Stopped in on a whim while walking around. Limited flavors, but the late hours are nice.

We received really small portions and the employee almost seemed bothered we came in. The strawberry basil flavor was watery and most flavors ran out, although it was around 6pm when we visited. There are a lot better gelato places in the city.

Funny how their name is black dog gelato but they are not dog friendly at all: we took a short walk from our home on a very hot humid day looking to get some gelato and good time. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by “sorry but no dogs are not allowed.” No eye contact. The store wasn’t that busy and I was hoping to go in and out quick, wasn’t expecting to sit around and be treated like queen, either. By the time my husband got the sorbet, we were waiting outside the store and our dogs were panting horribly, overheating. Honestly the McDonald’s down the street have better service. Jeni’s down the street have better flavors and more selections. Disappointed.
