Where To Eat Before A Show At Brooklyn Academy Of Music

"Black Iris is a casual Middle Eastern spot on the border of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill where people who live in nearby brownstones like to drink mojitos on weeknights. They’re open from 12pm-10pm with no break before dinner, so you can grab some fluffy pita sandwiches and pitzas as early as you need to. Their pita-pizzas are topped with things like lamb and sun-dried tomato, and you get a decent portion for the price in case those tickets to see King Lear got a bit pricey. " - team infatuation

Where To Eat Outside in Fort Greene

"Black Iris is a casual Middle Eastern spot on the border of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill where people who live in nearby brownstones like to drink mojitos on weeknights. Their new curbside patio has turf and a huge tent that makes getting drinks possible rain or shine. And if you want dinner, try one of their pitas topped with lamb, chicken cutlet, or sundried tomatoes." - nikko duren

Wouldn’t recommend this place. We decided to try it because of the 4.6-star reviews and thought it was going to be good, but it was really disappointing. We ordered the mixed grill, the meat was oddly dry with a strange texture, and the rice tasted like it was a few days old. The soup wasn’t even warm, and the waiter had an unwelcoming attitude. I thought it was very humiliating to come all the way from New Rochelle and have this kind of experience. The owner really needs to monitor the quality and service more closely.

TLDR great food, inattentive service, mixed atmosphere. Got the three meat & a mezze platter for 3 people and that was more than enough food, no room for dessert (although it looked so good 🤤). SO DELICIOUS!! But the wait staff never came back around the whole time we were dining, which was strange especially since we kept a menu at the table to browse other offerings. Thankfully the mezze came out first, because there was not enough pita served with that and idk how we would've gotten to order more without getting up to track down a waiter. The music was bad. Idk what is with restaurants these days, everyone is always playing bad pop or house music. As you can see in one of my photos there were a bunch of vinyl albums set on the console next to our table - why not play these artists?? I don't want to sit in a nice restaurant and listen to David Guetta lol. And the paper bags over the lights took me out 😂 what is thaaatt!! The diffused light effect is nice but c'mon y'all.. $25 plates and paper bags taped to the ceiling? I had to laugh. Anyway I'd definitely come back because the food was perfect (:

A friend visiting from out of town and I decided to explore Brooklyn Heights, and what a discovery we made! Upon stepping off the G train, a hidden gem popped up on Google Maps, and it was impossible to resist. Though the restaurant wasn’t fully open yet, Neslie greeted us with such warmth and even offered us prime seating. From that moment, we knew we were in for a treat—and what a food adventure it turned out to be! My friend Nancy ordered the Lamb and Chickpeas, and one bite made me instantly jealous. That dish was absolutely divine—rich, flavorful, and unforgettable. Meanwhile, I went with the Salmon Kebab on Neslie’s recommendation, and wow… just wow. As someone who’s cautious about fish, I was floored by how perfectly seasoned and savory it was. The rice served alongside was the ideal complement. To top it off, I had the Dal Soup, curious to see a Middle Eastern spin on a dish so familiar to me as an Indian. It did not disappoint! Paired with the rice, it was so good I devoured it without a second thought. The pita bread? Completely forgotten—sorry, pita. 😅 It was two hours of pure bliss—great company, an incredible server, and food that left us happily full and satisfied. Thank you to this fantastic spot for such a memorable experience! We’ll be back. 💗

Had a late lunch /early dinner here one Sunday and enjoyed the mezze platter with garlic bread. Tasted very fresh and healthy, left us feeling very satisfied. Sat in the outdoor (undercover) area, so only critique is that service was a little slow out here, since you're a bit out of sight from inside.

Such a lovely spot! The food was delicious and well priced. Atmosphere was peaceful and has great ambiance. The waitstaff was above and beyond the best! Very friendly and made sure we were enjoying the food. Even helped me and my friend take pictures! Would definitely come back again!

The server added her own tip to my bill. Had the service and food been great, I would’ve kindly tipped her accordingly! I called the manager and he said he’d return my money but didn’t! The chicken pizza was burnt and dry and the margarita pizza didn’t even have basil on it! I will continue to comment about my horrible experience until my money is returned. It’s disgusting how someone can steal from you and still be employed ! Off to the next review! Thank you Send me back my money!

A neighborhood classic that we STAY coming back to. Black Iris is our constant. We order in from here all the time, and every once in a while, come here for dinner with family or friends. It's consistently good and always perfect. Above all, our server Avery was awesome. She was kind and funny and was truly one of the best servers I've had in Brooklyn in a while. I think we are friends now :) I usually get the falafel wrap (which is rly good), but I tried something new last night, I got the shrimp kebabs. It came with like so much shrimp which was a pleasant surprise. We shared the mezze plate for the table and that was my fav part. The labne is ridiculously good. The dirty martini was delightfully dirty and all of us at the table left feeling full. Black Iris 4evr

Service is warm and gracious (thank you all so much!) and the food is excellent. Very vegan-friendly: menu items are clearly marked, and the servers are happy to be answer questions. Just a lovely place to have a great meal - thank you, Black Iris!
