Black Oak Tavern

We headed here for lunch after a travel baseball game in the area. Great food and service from start to finish. We had kids with us (ages 7-13) and they were entertained by the games the bar had on hand (Hungry Hungry Hippos & Sorry). Also, they had outlets conveniently located on the wall (plugs and phone adapters) which were a nice bonus. The bar itself was clean including the dining area and bathrooms. Overall a wonderful experience for a first timer. We will be back for sure!

My coworkers and I have turned this into our regular brunch spot. The food & drinks never disappoint but we really enjoy Julie’s customer service the most. She’s always so welcoming & accommodating. At this point she already knows what we’re going to order before we say it!

Ordered a smoked beef brisket sandwich and have never been more disappointed. Giving 2 stars since the tater tots were fine. I ordered on Uber Eats and couldn't get a refund but I absolutely would have exchanged it for a different dish had I been in the restaurant. The brisket is almost as thin as Italian beef, no smoked taste, and the meat is VERY dry. Would not come here again for food.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff was welcoming and attentive, the atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was flavorful and well-prepared. I highly recommend this location NOT WESTLOOP.

I really enjoyed having lunch at Black Oak Tavern in Oak Lawn. I ordered two appetizers, Chicken tender, juicy, plumb and delicious. The honey mustard dipping sauce is house made and was delicious!! Great blend of sweet and savory. And a Bavarian pretzel, buttery tender and the Gouda cheese sauce for dipping was awesome! Loved my choices. They do have burgers, sandwiches, and other dishes to choose from. The Tavern is clean, spacious and the server was friendly and helpful. The prices are a tad high but is worth it for a treat. I gave it 4 stars, due to the parking being limited. The restaurant is on a small shopping mall. Despite the parking, it's worth a visit. Check out their website for the full menu.

I'm very disappointed. When did you start adding gratuity to parties of 3. The bill was over $100 and you added gratuity without asking. And the Barb person answer is, all bills over $100 the gratuity is added. That's a lie. I've been going here for 9 years. This was disrespectful and very unfair. Hell with parties of 6, watch your bill for $100. At least, that's what my bar person claimed

I had the spinach salad tonight with strawberries, feta, and walnuts. It was served with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing and was very tasty. There is an option to add chicken, steak, or shrimp. Our server, Danette, was exceptional, very welcoming and efficient.

I wanted to have a little entertainment before I got home from work. The place just opened so I had my choice of machines. It was horrible. I got into a bonus and the machine froze. I asked the staff person to call the technician and she act like and I was bothering her. I had to wait 45 minutes for the technician to come out. When he did come out I had to let him know that I had credits in the The staff person told me that she would let him know. He ended up playing my bonus. I won $38. So he was able to cash out my voucher but I still had to wait because the machine was still malfunctioning. I had to wait for this little blue hand to disappear from the Illinois Gaming Department. This was not a good experience.

Tried this place again and food was good. Service is slow. Also tried drinks: Season Sangria, Old Fashion and Top Shelf Long Island. Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and Burger were good.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it's definitely a hidden gem. Not crowded at all and the staff is super friendly. Ordered the New Fashion drink along with BBQ wings, Buffalo wings, and fries. Everything was good!! Sat at the bar and they had several TVs for viewing along with a gaming area in the back which a lot of people enjoyed. Additionally, I love how everything is reasonably priced. 2 drinks, 12 wings, and 2 order of fries all for $60. Will return again! It's been way too long since our last visit! Stopped in Wednesday afternoon for some food and beverage. Had the Fish Tacos and Buffalo Shrimp. Missed Taco Tuesday's special :-( The fish was fried perfectly, slaw was crisp and fresh with a hint of a bite. Buffalo Shrimp had the right amount of heat. Went with the blue cheese sauce (ranch also an option). Very tasty with some nice chunks of blue cheese ;-) The place is charming, inviting and super clean. Staff is engaging and the Top Shelf Long Island tastes exquisite (YUM) Had some great conversation, met some great folks and enjoyed everything!

Went there for breakfast a few times, and it was the worst. It was like I got a Child's portion for $15.00. Haven't been back.

Have been driving by here so we decided to check it out tonight just for drinks. Comfortable environment and good drinks. Next time we'll eat.

Good drinks BlackBerry margarita, strawberry margarita, and Caipirinha. The buffalo shrimp were large and delicious with the bleu cheese. The chilli had a kick but was decent. The cod and fries was good but maybe the grease needed changing because the fish was a little dark but overall pretty tasty. The steak sandwich was reported as very tasty. Sweet potato fries were good. My partner had grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and asparagus which she enjoyed. The service was nice as our waitress provided suggestions and was prompt. The ambiance is a classic bar eatery but nicer. I loved all of the affirmations in the restroom.

Updating my review: We came here yesterday for brunch, and nearly all of the tables were occupied. That's a pretty good sign that they're doing something right. We each ordered a bottomless mimosa which they serve you in a stemless champagne flute, they cap you at 2 hours, and you can definitely taste the alcohol -- they're not like other places where you get more juice than actual alcohol. I did the steak and eggs, and my partner did the pancakes. Since we arrived at noon, we were given the option for both brunch and lunch menu. So, we decided to do the hangover -- comes with a pizza puff, French fries and cheese curds. We also did an order of nachos with sour cream and guacamole. We had a fun time, and we'll definitely be back for brunch more often.

Stopped in here with a group of 8 on a Wednesday afternoon. We called ahead to warn them. Bartender doubled as waitress and she busted her butt to serve us. Mixed drinks were strong and tasty. Beer was cold. Food was decent enough to warrant more visits in the future. I ordered the daily special patty melt with tots. Medium rare, which the cooks got just right. Props! Next time I'm in the area I will be sure to stop by. A solid neighborhood type place.

We ordered a bunch of shareable menu items and have to say we were definitely satisfied with all our orders. Hangover fries are a great concept, pizza puff threw me off from being on that list, but in the end it is a good choice. We tried the mixed wings and the flavoring on these was amazing paired with a nice crunch to the wings. Steak tacos were another great menu item, nicely presented with adequate portions. Mac N Cheese with Brisket was so flavorful and had just the right amount of creaminess. The drinks we ordered were also delicious from the Blue Lemonade to their Moscow Mule. Great service, awesome staff, we're definitely coming back to this place to check out their brunch specials.

The food is good and the staff is great. I would recommend this place.We enjoyed coming on Monday and playing bingo with Marty and George so get off the couch and come out to Black Oak and play some bingo and have a drink and something to eat

I had the Lemon garlic shrimp with angel hair pasta. Unfortunately the lemon was sooo intense and over powering that I couldn't enjoy it. My BF tried it and agreed. I mentioned it to the server and she said "I'll mention it to the cooks to dial down the lemon". The asparagus was cut up to tiny tiny pieces that I thought they were peas. The shrimp was on the side of the plate so I was able to enjoy them. The good thing is that my BF and son enjoyed their meals.

Buffalo shrimp are bomb! The staff is amazing, even when they are short staffed they work they butts off to get your food out quick.

Came in on a Thursday morning, around 10am. Only about 3 tables occupied. We were helped right away with drinks. She went over the lunch special with us. The waitress was good on checking on us and making sure we didn't need anything else. Decor: It's a nice neighborhood bar. It's very open and updated. Don't get discouraged from the outside store front, like we were. There's a bunch of tvs to watch sports. The bar is very nice! I love the concept. Food: Their orange juice is a bit more tangy than sweet. I had the house skillet, it was really good. Their potatoes aren't like hash browns but actual potatoes, it made the skillet unique. The jalapeños are some of the hottest I ever had, very fresh. So beware. I'm glad I stopped here, I would recommend to others and return. They had a lot of specials for each day. Would love to watch a sports game here.

If you're looking for a great burger spot in oak lawn this might be it! I had the Farmhouse burger cooked medium rare and it was perfect! So juicy and flavorful and the fries were a great addition. I was also craving some wings and ordered the 12 jumbo crispy chicken wings with half barbecue and half buffalo and they did not skimp. It was actually too much for us and we had enough to take home as leftovers. They offer a lunch option before 3pm for $10 and half off appetizers on Mondays which was a pleasant surprise when I got my bill.

Came in for breakfast today, I've heard so many good stories I knew I had to try it out. I ordered the corn beef hash with pancakes and wow! It's real corn beef not that minced meat and potatoes you get from the can! Prefect portion and everything was fresh. Topped with two perfectly fried eggs! Our servicer great. I'd highly recommend their breakfast. The bar was very clean. The food was hot and fresh.

Good food, it's a little loud, great if you want to watch sports but maybe not if you're looking for a quiet dinner. This is a sports bar with two seating areas in addition to the bar. There is seating directly across from the bar plus a room toward the back that has more tables. There are TV's everywhere! Plus they were playing songs on a speaker system. If you're looking to be entertained and watch multiple sports at a time, this is the place for you in Oak Lawn. The food was good but not spectacular. The fries had great flavor, hand cut so you could taste potato and just salty enough..... half of mine were perfect, delicious and then half were room temperature and soft. And it wasn't a matter of being hot at the start and then cooling off. From when they came to the table, like my third fry was tepid and sort of soggy but then the fourth one was hot and perfect. I felt like what was on my plate was a mix of an older batch and a fresh batch. Hubby said his were perfect, and I only eat about half an order anyway so I didn't bother to ask for new ones. I had the smoked brisket sandwich which was very good. The garlic toast bun was well flavored and a good compliment to the meat. I don't like onion and I also don't care enough for cheese to consume the extra calories so I had my sandwich very plain and the meat was delicious! It tasted great totally unadorned. Hubby had a burger, he enjoyed it except that his top bun as so burnt he couldn't eat it. When she put his plate down on the table we could all see it was inedible. She offered to get him another one when she came back with the third person's dinner but the rest of his meal was hot and there so he didn't want to wait for them to toast a new one. We felt like the kitchen never should have sent it out in that state. The third person in our group raved about the Risotto but I thought the bite I had was slightly undercooked and the flavor didn't wow me, but I'm a snob when it comes to risotto. Nothing they serve in a bar can compare to homemade, totally fresh ingredient risotto. All that to say, it's a sports bar, if I ate there again I'd definitely stick to the sandwiches.

Went to this restaurant to get a to go order. I had to wait quite a while to put in the order and waited ever longer for my order to be ready. I had to ask for water and then I also had to ask for a straw. I felt invisible so I just sit there. When I finally got my food no late apology was given. I asked them if they were on Yelp Angelica gave a Rude remark so I told her I would not be back she said good have a nice day. It's a shame the food was excellent but I will not go back because of the rude service.

The pictures of the food looked great and it made me think food would be delicious but honestly it's by far one of the worst meals I've had. I took two bites from my burger and tossed out. The meat from the burger was rubbery and seemed like it had been cooked frozen. Buffalo sliders were missing flavor. The jumbo wings were very salty and dry. I also ordered a salad and even though it stated it came with dressing I did not get any salad dressing.

I just don't know what to say about this place. Are they are a "bar" or are they a "diner?" They seem to want to have it both ways. It certainly is not a "bar and grill." First it's way too bright in the place. They need to dim it down a bit. Perhaps more wooden tables and countertops would help. Food? I had breakfast there. It was awful. I've had drinks there. The drinks were decent. So let's commit to being a bar and grill. Give me a menu of burgers, tacos, and wings. Lose the eggs. It's in a strip mall (always a negative) but at least there's plenty of parking.

Eureka!!!!! We've found our spot for amazing burgers!!!! Huge, juicy and delicious!! (That's what she said). Susan is the absolute best!!! Totally loves working at the place she used to be a patron at, and it shows!!! Beautiful farmhouse decor, fantastic waterfall cement top bar, and a perfect place to watch a game!! I'm sure I We will work our way through the menu, but so far we've had...The Chicken Tacos, The Steak Tacos, The Bavarian Pretzels, The Black Oak Burger, The Black and Blue Burger, The Farmhouse Burger and the Brisket Mac and cheese and they've all been fantastic!!

I've been here a lot. I've tried almost everything on the menu. I decided today after several visits that I should give them a review. Here goes....today I had the Sirloin sandwich, it did not disappoint. Fresh cut sirloin on a garlic roll topped with cheese and caramelized onions; it was very good, although I did like it a little better when they served it with au ju, now they serve it with chimichurri sauce but other than that still a great sandwich. The service was good, our waitress was very polite and attentive. Overall this place has great food, I've never actually had something I didn't like and I've had everything from the Tacos, nachos, burgers, wings, you name it, it has all been pretty good food. The only downside to this place is the service. My most recent visit today was great but in the past the service has been terrible. Because of service fiascos in the past they don't earn a 5th star from me but maybe they have it figured out now. More visits and time will tell. For now, good food, nice place, average price. 4 out of 5

$17 for smoked brisket Mac and cheese? It sounded so yummy and the picture assured me I would give a nice amount of brisket. I was looking forward to the smoked Gouda that claim was in the Mac. It tasted like tasteless tuna Mac. No way this dish is worth $17! It was bland and it tasted like it came straight from a box. I tasted it and then I threw it straight in the trash where it belonged! I was insulted that they would even serve this , and the price?? Who is the chef? My Mac and cheese tastes wayyyy better. I ordered from Door Dash and I will not order again. My mom enjoyed her BLT. My daughter said her eggs tasted like water and the French toast tasted like dough. The eggs was in a patty form. Never seen scrambled eggs like this. I didn't include the pic of her meal because she threw it away before I could even turn around and grab the remote. For $17, I could have ordered Boston Market and had a decent meal and had $$ left over. Never again!!

Came in on a Monday afternoon for happy hour. Apps were buy one get one half off. Margaritas were only $3, but weren't anything to rave about. Ordered nachos without any meat and they were just ok. I would 100% recommend the house sliders, they looked extremely appealing and were beyond DELICIOUS!!! Bartender was supper attentive and extremely friendly. Thought it was interesting that every first Monday of the month they do a psychic event. Will definitely be stopping back in for those sliders.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. When we first came into the restaurant, we were immediately seated however there was a very long wait before we were served. Parties around us were getting immediate service whereas myself and my guests had to wait almost 45 minutes for a cup of soup and waters. My guest Verda Long paid for our bill timely however it should never take 45 minutes to be seen, seated, and only receive a cup of soup without having our entire orders taken. Upon receiving our soup, my entire party, including myself, were very displeased with how cold the soup was. 30 minutes after our soup was provided the waitstaff never came back and I was not going to wait any longer to be served. This type of service is unacceptable in any food services. Again, would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for any reason.

The food here was absolutely great! My fianceé and I chose this restaurant based on reviews and we had a taste for a burger. We ordered the Farmhouse burger and it was amazing! It was cooked fresh and so were the fries that came with it! I swear the chef cut the potatoes and fried them once we placed our order. Lol. The customer service was great, the staff was very friendly. Thing only thing that bothered us was a man using foul language continuously at the bar. Totally unnecessary. This place is not too far from Midway Airport which was where we were headed. If you want a great bite to eat before your flight or after your flight and don't want to eat airport food, for example, I highly recommend this place!

Logged into Yelp to find a quick bite and this place popped up. Mom and I decided to give it a shot. And we were NOT disappointed. I had the Baja tacos and she had the chicken tacos. Quick service, great tasing food and the server was wonderful. I will definitely be back the next time I'm on this side of town.

Must have passed this place a hundred times on Pulaski without ever noticing, but I finally went in the other day. It's part of a little strip of stores. It looks like your usual sports bar, but their food was definitely a cut above most. I got the brisket sandwich and fries, plus we all split nachos. The sandwich was very good, and the nachos were a huge portion. Not a whole lot of craft beers, but they weren't expensive and had some good specials. I wouldn't be opposed to going back for a game ever since they had a lot of TVs

I good friend of mine introduced me to this establishment a few years ago and I have been a customer ever since but this is my very first review, and long over due. They just recently went under new management and the menu has changed. However, needless to say the food is still good. They have a happy hour special every day of the week that includes food and drinks. They also have trivia nite one day of the week which is a lot of fun. The bartenders are very welcoming and greet and serve you as soon as you sit down. On yesterday, I had the fish tacos (they offer corn and flour tortillas, most places don't) and they are loaded with all kinds of good stuff (sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and some kind of special sauce). I will definitely grab a pic on my next visit. I must advise the fish is fried not grilled. The wings are huge and are made to order. The fries is such a large order, so be ready to share! Their salads are filled with all kinds of freshness. They have four large screen televisions that are always on sports or news. They also offer gaming in the back. The offer high bar seating, seating at the bar and tables in the back. The ladies restroom is always clean and well stocked. If you are looking for a nice neighborhood bar and grill that won't hurt your pocketbook, this is the place. You will not go wrong with the food and drinks and of course the hospitality.

This place has a nice aesthetic to it. I like the wall decorated with old pictures. Great place for dining or just hang out and have few drinks. Have a creative menu selection, ordered many items and have never been disappointed.

I headed up to the Black Oak on a Saturday around 11:30am & ordered their Farmhouse Burger, bacon, fried egg on a brioche bun, cooked medium rare. Outstanding!!!!! The fries were fresh & delicious as well. I washed it down with a Bloody Mary & Tito's & Lemonade. Recommend giving this burger a try, you won't be disappointed.

My family and I went for lunch on a Sunday. We walked in behind, and sat next to, a different family. The waitress took ours and the neighbor family's drink orders quickly, and the drinks arrived equally quickly. That's where the good service ended though. The waitress took the food order of the neighbor family right after the drinks came, but then left us without taking our order for a full 25 minutes after drinks came. The waitress never even came back to our area, so I couldn't flag her down. I got frustrated so I got up and hunted her down, which finally resulted in our order being taken. Our food came about 20 minutes later - we'd been there for about 55 minutes before we even got our food. My mother's meal was not correct - she ordered huevos rancheros but got chilaquiles....with lots of cold lettuce, which made her dish barely lukewarm. My toast was cold. And the butter was rock solid cold, so I couldn't spread it. I waited to be checked on by the waitress so my mom could get the right food and I could get some warm toast that might melt the butter, but no luck. The waitress didn't come back until I asked the busboy to send the manager over 15 minutes after we received our food. By that time, my mom had given up and just ate what she was served and I wanted to just leave. Despite this, the food was delicious. The food being delicious is the reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 1. Because that was really, supremely, awful service.

We came in late on a rainy full-out monsoon Saturday night when a friend of my family was supposed to be performing, however, someone died that day and the kitchen was closed. The bar was open, however, and the bartender told us they were only open for drinks because of a death in the family. But she made up for it and gave us our drinks on the house. I would have liked to have eaten there - the menu looked pretty tantalizing for Irish pub food. It's located in the heart of a strip mall, but there's decent parking and access to the highway from there. I'd go back to check out other entertainment. If anything, we had a good time watching the end of a Cubs game rebroadcasted from earlier that afternoon. You can see the large screen tvs from anywhere in the bar.

Good food! I'm confused why such a busy place has a bartender that is also the waitress.?? One server for that whole place? Really? How much does it cost to hire a waitress? The bartender is good, but completely stretched. This nonsense has gone on since they opened. Good food, good atmosphere....RIDICULOUS service arrangements. Come on owners and managers. Staff your place properly! Please. Thank you!

Food was bland, service was bad. Took 25 min to be greeted, took over an hour to get our food. It wasnt even crowded. Small selection of food and it doesnt look appetizing at all.

Today Peggy and I went to have lunch at black oak. It was seat yourself. After 10 minutes or more the waitress came over and said "we are busy and you will have to wait to be served. We left and never plan to go back. Very negative review. To bad oak lawn needs go places and not places like this

Stopped in for a late dinner! Place was busy! Food was excellent!! BBQ wings were excellent! The brisket sandwich with BBQ added was so yummy! Get the chips...homemade and excellent!

I've been coming here from the day they opened probably won't be back. I don't know if they have new owners or new management but whichever they have they suck. Came in as normal to have some food and a few drinks and after watching them walk by me for 20 minutes decided that was enough. They went to every table but ours. Took drink orders, food orders everything. I could see one of the servers having a hard time at the POS machine like it was her first day. The table next to ours that came in after we did got drinks from some guy who must be a new manager or owner walked right by our table. Then the server went there to have a nice long chat. At that point it was time to go. I can't even give them one star but you have to in order to post.

Wonderful meal!! Thank you Joe for making our day. The food was outstanding. We will be back!!

Was wanting breakfast food past noon and stopped by. Place very clean, food was good. Abigail was super nice and attentive.

Terrible service tonight on St Patrick's Day. It took forever to get our food and when it finally arrived it was cold. They were definitely understaffed tonight. Felt bad for Dana, she was working her ass off. Terrible experience.

Good food, great service, friendly faces. What more can you ask for? I've ordered everything from salads to burgers and it has been tasty every time. I am never disappointed. Usually some sort of live entertainment and always slot machines in back. Perfect neighborhood bar/restaurant.

About 8 of us were there just before covid. Had a great time celebrating a birthday. A duo was there that evening singing/keyboard which made it even better. Good appetizers, drinks, staff. It was recommended to us, so now I'm recommending to you!
