What a great place! The brisket cheese steak was delicious (the brisket was amazingly tender and flavorful) as were the greens and the blackberry cobbler. My wife had the chopped pork sandwich and macaroni and cheese and had nothing but good things to say. The only hiccup was the banana pudding she got. It was ok, but not on a par with the other dishes. The vibe was upscale casual and everything was super clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Honestly, I consider our meal, at $42, to be one of the best deals I've found in a long time. Highly recommend!

Google
Great barbecue, clean place that looks brand new, good service, and good beer. Pretty much all you need from a barbecue restaurant. We had the ribs, brisket, jalapeño sausage, mac and cheese, collard greens, banana pudding, peach cobbler, and fries. We shared so we could try a good chunk of the menu. Everything came out delicious. I personally love their "heat" sauce. That one was my favorite. But we all liked different ones, so you should probably try them all before deciding what you are going to use on your food. Overall great experience, especially after spending the day walking at the zoo.

Google
Blackpowder is a wonderful spot in Asheboro. We skipped fast food for lunch while traveling through and were amply rewarded. They said the brisket is the top seller and I get why. Melt in your mouth with a nice, rubbed, smokey rind. Tried 2/4 of their house sauces and they are good. Mac and cheese is also good. Space is immaculate and staff flawless.

Google
First time here & I tried the brisket. I ask for my half pound in a to go box, but I finished it trying all four bbq sauces. The heat & the mop are my favorites, but all 4 had great flavor. The staff were helpful with my questions & the atmosphere was great for a nice lunch out - causal music playing & a tv to view. I’ll be back soon!

Google
Came in here with my wife and youngins for supper on a Wednesday night. They were doing music bingo and although we didn’t play we enjoyed the ‘90s country they were using for the songs. I got a little bit of everything - pork bbq, pulled chicken, brisket, brisket meatloaf (their Wednesday special), jalapeño sausage and a side of mac n cheese. My wife got a chopped chicken sandwich with collards. Everything was phenomenal! The sauces only enhanced the flavors of the meat. Great find while we were in town. We will definitely be back!

Google
Good smoked pulled pork sandwiches! Several choices for bbq sauce. Coleslaw was not what I expected but it was okay on my sandwich. Peanut butter pie was delicious. There is a bar too. Cool stop off on our way home from Myrtle Beach.

Google
Place was very clean, it looks fairly new. Now having said that. I was not impressed at all. Extremely overpriced. Was over $100, for 4 adults. 2 people had the brisket sandwich and 2 had just brisket. We split family style sides. The brisket was ok at best. Mac and cheese was good, but seriously $19.00 for a fairly small container. Definitely won't go back.

Google
Loved the Texas roadhouse feel to Blak Powder. The service was excellent, beef brisket sandwich with mac and cheese, slaw and pickles were tasty and filling. The place was spacious, clean and staff very friendly. Menu was on the wall just before you placed your order, which caused a back log by first time customers.

Yelp
It was our first time. We had a great meal at a good price. My husband got the jalapeño sausage sandwich. It was delightful with Texas toast, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. I had the brisket, hush puppies, and fries. All good. My only issue was items coming out of kitchen at different times, so some food was hot and others got cold faster. We will go back! They were super accommodating.

Yelp
We have been to the Black Powder Smokehouse in Jamestown, NC several times and really enjoyed it. I absolutely love their green beans! We recently realized they opened a second location about 18 months ago in Asheboro and were excited to stop in. We arrived about 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. This location appears to be quite a bit larger than the one in Jamestown. Customers can enter in through the side entrance which takes you into the dining area, or through the front door, which leads you to the menu on the wall and counter area where you order. The menu is clear and easy to understand and they also offered a couple of specials as well. My wife decided on the Brisket + Blue salad. I chose a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese as my side. We also ordered a large hush puppies to share. Since relocating to the South, my wife has discovered a love for hush puppies which I enjoy as well. The young man at the counter was friendly and helpful, he plated the majority of our items and the kitchen prepared the salad and hushpuppies. The counter ultimately takes you to the cashier where you can also order fountain drinks, desserts or additional items. There is also a full bar located on the outer edge of the dining area which we did not check out this time. We were given a number to put on our table and they would deliver our meals. We proceeded to fill our water glasses and grab a table in the dining area. We also grabbed some sauce and napkins. Our meals arrived a short while later and looked awesome. My wife really enjoyed the salad, and I thought the mac and cheese was perfect. I loved the flavor of the pulled pork and we both really enjoyed the hush puppies. My wife enjoyed the brisket salad so much, she decided to order a half pound of chopped brisket to-go so she could make salads with it for the work week. This was another great experience at Black Powder. We are glad they have expanded and hope the can continue to stay consistent and grow.

Yelp
I have heard a lot about Black Powder, so we decided to try it when passing through Asheboro. You order at the counter and they cut the meat right in front of you. I got the pulled pork, turkey, and a few ribs. The meats were delicious. My favorite was the turkey because it was super moist and tender. I had the baked beans as my side. The beans were in a lighter sauce and not too sweet. For dessert, I tried their cobbler of the day which was strawberry. that was also fantastic. My eyes were bigger than my stomach so I could not finish everything. Even the hotdog was 5-star. My son had the kids hotdog with mac and cheese and both were tasty. Next time I want to try more sides and desserts.

Mike M.

Yelp
Barbecue was average. Prices were reasonable. Ribs a bit fatty than most I've had elsewhere. Good selection of sauces. Don't recommend brisket but the pulled pork was good.

Melanie V.

Yelp
Wow! Awesome fast casual bbq spot. Cafeteria style plating, serve your own sauce and drinks, and picnic table seating. Brisket was very tender albeit a bit fatty. Pulled pork was solid as well. Baked beans were spicy and incredibly delicious. Not pictured but the pork rinds are fresh and outstanding...highly recommend. $3 PBR and music bingo on wednesdays nights. Only downfall is they are only open til 8p. Will be back!

Yelp
Black Powder is an incredible restaurant! The original location in Jamestown is great but if you find yourself down south, check out the Asheboro location! This was our second visit and we were not disappointed...we went for lunch on Tuesday so it wasn't crowded when we arrived but by the time we left, there were several full tables. Walking in, the smells of barbecue hit you and it's a wonderful scent! The pulled pork is incredible, it just melts. My sandwich was loaded high that I struggled to put a bun on it to eat it. I always get my slaw on the side because I'm not a huge slaw fan but Black Powders is very good and adds a nice crunch. My husband got the brisket sandwich and it looked tasty. The Mac and cheese is some of the best that I've ever had in my life. It could 100% be a meal in itself. My four year old is a fan! Their menu has non-pork items if you aren't a pork person. We've tried the turkey before and it's incredibly yummy too!

Jasminee P.

Yelp
Was pretty good. Expensive but worthy! Not big on pork but when I want it I try to seek new location. I'll definitely return.

Julie G.

Yelp
Good brisket, amazing mad n cheese and seasoned fries. The slaw needed a little bit more flavor but still good. Beer on tap. Had a Red Oak and it hit the spot. Highly recommend stopping in

Matthew H.

Yelp
Brisket, pulled pork, and sausage were great! Very tasty sauces to complement the flavor of the smoked meat. Collard greens were the bomb, with a spicy kick. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the space is open and welcoming. This place is excellent and will definitely be on our repeat list! We highly recommend it!

Tabitha B.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped to eat here after the zoo. We raved about the food the entire meal. Great place to eat!

Alex S.

Yelp
They now have salads! Being that I don't eat a lot of meat this place was hard to eat at but now that they have salad options I love this place! I get the chopped chicken house salad (it's massive btw) w ranch and I pour Mop BBQ sauce all over it. The beans are so good and spicy. The Mac n cheese is stellar (it's made with Gouda) and they always have good homemade desserts. You can't go wrong with this place! It's also a large space so there's always plenty of seating!

Patti L.

Yelp
I want to like these 2 places so bad and for the most part it's really good, not great which it could be... I love love the surprise menu options of the day and when I go try them, sometimes they don't meet the mark. This visit I so wanted to enjoy the brisket Philly but the Brisket was so stringy and tough I literally couldn't chew most of it. I get things happen and some things can't be avoided but these prices are not cheap so the customer needs a little bit more TLC on the food preparation!

Geoffrey F.

Yelp
This is admittedly not the best Texas style brisket I've found in North Carolina, but this place is absolutely a treat in Asheboro and I'll be damned if the BBQ is not very very good... and enjoyed their house sauce and sides too. Quick "fast casual" food like more modern BBQ places I've been to, and it hit so right after being out in the cold on the nearby soccer fields all day. Highly recommend this place, and when I come through Asheboro again I will be happy to revisit here.

Jacquelyn J.

Yelp
The barbecue was amazing. Ordered enough for the next day too! Delicious. Can't wait to get some more!!! YUMMMMM

Matthew S.

Yelp
We went to this place because we thought the menu was similar to Mission BBQ, which is a favorite restaurant of ours. It was even better than I expected. The food was prepared right in front of us and we were eating within seconds. Very friendly staff. We got two desserts and they were delicious.

Asheton S.

Yelp
Best barbecue I've ever had in Ashboro, the brisket melted in my mouth and they had $2 domestic beers on Friday. Will definitely have to come back next time I'm out here

Dustin M.

Yelp
A nice, modern and hip bbq joint in the heart of Asheboro. The vibes this place gives off are fantastic. I personally tried several food options here and I can't find one thing to complain about for any of it. The banana pudding is pure perfection. The service was absolutely amazing. Very kind and friendly staff. I liked my experience so much I purchased a hat.

Kim O.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh food !!! Great service every time we have been there! They have even started doing karaoke.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
First time visiting the Asheboro location. Still the same quality food I have grown to know and love. They don't have all of the same sauces, so if you're wanting a mustard-based sauce you'll be out of luck. Come early because they will run out. Also their adjacent parking lot is on the smaller side, so if you don't find a spot, there were people parking across the street. You do clean you place and put your trash in the can and trays on the ledge by the trash can, so be prepared for that at the end of the meal. Most all the food is pre-done (cos you can't cook a brisket in 20 minutes), so service is quick. The personality of the person chopping the meat was inviting. They have a sauce station vs. bottles on the table, so be prepared to get up after sitting down to get your own sauce. Overall a good dining experience and I'm glad that Asheboro has a good brisket place.

Yelp
Brand new location for Black Powder Smokehouse right here in Zoo City! When I saw they were opening up today, I went ahead and left work early to get there before they ran out of BBQ! I never got a chance to visit their location in Jamestown, but boy was I missing out. I got the whole family something for dinner. We opted for the Brisket Sandwiches and a half rack of ribs with all the sides. Everything is a-la-carte for your sides, so you can pick what you want. Let me start by saying the Brisket Sandwich is the best I've honestly ever had, and I've had BBQ from all the major styles like Texas and Kansas City. The portion sizes are more than enough. We got the baked beans, green beans, Mac and Cheese and the collard greens for sides. All of them were incredible and full of flavor. Really didn't have a favorite! For the Half Rack of ribs, they were smoked beautifully and fall off the bone. Flavor was incredible with them as well. If you like a little sauce to dip it in, I would suggest some Carolina Gold BBQ sauce as the flavor compliments its great. Pricing is very good for the quality you're getting. If you've never tried it, I highly suggest making this a must try!

Eric B.

Yelp
Definitely a great place - burnt ends were awesome, as was the chopped pork. The Gouda Mac n cheese is incredible. And The Heat is my favorite sauce!! So good!

Laura M.

Yelp
Picked up dinner to go, the Brisket sandwich was good. The pulled pork had a lot of fat. The collard greens were bitter and not seasoned well. The cucumber tomato onion salad had potential, it needed some more time to marinate. The onions were crunchy as if it was just made but it did taste fresh. The food is served like cafeteria style, going through a line and picking what you want. The line moved pretty fast. The ambiance is industrial rustic decor, clean and casual. We wanted to order the Mac and Cheese but they didn't have any left at dinner time.

Dennis W.

Yelp
It was ok.. I was expecting more from the reviews but this was pretty average. There are better BBQ places nearby.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Food excellent Service quick Friendly to customers Green beans on point My bbq was soo tender and delicious! The Mac and cheese was rich but very tasty I enjoy the food and I live very close by! Lucky me!! Lol

Tara H.

Yelp
It was really delicious! The place was super clean, the staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! I had the brisket sandwich, others in our party had Mac n cheese, pulled pork and the hot dog...full bar for adult beverages and a great vibe! Looking forward to going again

Jamie H.

Yelp
The boys behind the counter were so sweet, friendly, and funny! We were worried they'd be sold out of popular items by the time we got there for dinner at 6:30, but we were so pleased to see everything was still available! We got the brisket, smoked turkey, jalapeño sausage, collards, & Mac and cheese. Everything was so juicy and nicely flavored! The collards were some of the best we've ever had. The sausage was our favorite, but we'd absolutely get everything again! Huge space as well, we enjoyed sitting at the bar and grabbing a beer to go with our delicious dinner. No wonder this place is such a hit! We will definitely be back.

Angela C.

Yelp
So delicious! I had the chopped barbeque sandwich and the seasoned fries. The fries were the best seasoned fries I ever had. Service was great as usual.

Jbear F.

Yelp
Classic BBQ laid back but modern atmosphere. Friendly staff. Tried a couple of things. The burger and pulled pork are good. The sides I had were very good. Very tasty collards and sugared jalapeños or "cowboy candy ". Will be back.

Jackie E.

Yelp
Brisket was decent. Mac and cheese was great! Price is a bit on the higher side. 2 adults and 1 child cost about $60 ish. They do have days where kids eat free. The wait can be long at high volume times so get there early.

Brad C.

Yelp
We went to Black Powder specifically for brisket and they didn't disappoint. It is setup so you go through a service line and it was hard to pick from the many options for our brisket.

Sandra L.

Yelp
My hubby brought take out home. First thing flavor of meet .my fellas enjoyed. I personally didn't go in not sure if it supposed have bbq slaw and sauce. My hubby said they did but I'm thinking he forgot. I would diffenatly try again

Julia D.

Yelp
I have been to the Blackpowder Smokehouse in Jamestown a handful of times, but last week was the first time in Asheboro. Don't ask why it took me so long because I have no idea. I felt like the dining experience in Asheboro is better! They have done a fantastic job upfitting this location. I remember going to Scott's Sporting Goods years ago when I was a child, so i can fully appreciate the transformation. Beautiful job! Each a la carte item I chose was excellent. Brisket, Mac & cheese and collards. Wow!! It will be hard to try something else next time because the trifecta I chose will be hard to match. Job well done!

Chade H.

Yelp
Ordered kids chicken tenders for my 21 month old child, they served him raw chicken, not pink but red slimy raw chicken. Full refund was granted but will not be returning.

Dave P.

Yelp
Celebrated my 70th birthday here. Great shredded pork. Choose your own BBQ sauce to make it Eastern, Western or whatever style! Comfort sides. Also brisket sliced in front of you. Great welcoming atmosphere. Room for large group. Awesome service.

Fez C.

Yelp
Very spacious, simple, and comfortable atmosphere. The staff here was very friendly. The food was incredibly good. If you come here, make sure it's on a day they're serving their burnt ends; those were so good I didn't even dare to think about putting any sauce on them.

Joe M.

Yelp
Delicious! Excellent brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and fries. Amazing sauces too!

Kevin B.

Yelp
This is a relatively new location in an up and coming area. From the outside, it doesn't look like much...but inside is a well designed open dining space. The team is efficient on the line, the staff is friendly and helpful. We brought a crew of 15 people or so, everyone was happy with their meal and the overall experience.

Enoc R.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great. It was our first time eating here so it took a while to make up our mind but the staff was very patient. We will definitely be going back soon!

John F.

Yelp
I gave it a four because the hot dogs we had were pretty good and the service and atmosphere were terrific. However, w e were disappointed in the Brisket. It was too greasy and there was way too much of it piled on a sandwich. Texas might have ruined us for brisket but we've had enough down there to remember it fondly.

Luke V.

Yelp
I downloaded the Yelp app just to rave about how great BOTH locations are. I've been twice and both experiences were amazing. Great food and great people.

Steve S.

Yelp
Prices are high for what you get, pretty much every restaurant these days. This one sits the food on the counter next to the register when your paying getting cold by the huge ac fan on the ceiling behind the register. They really need to do something about that.

Paul S.

Yelp
The place is new and trendy. Like most new places. they let their initial popularity give them too much confidence. I ate here for lunch. Overall, the place was too expensive for the quality. Fries are not hand cut, yet they cost over $3, and don't come with the sandwich you order. They taste like Burger King fries. Tea was $2.50 and was good. The burger was dry. Their chili in it took away from it. Slaw was good, and meat was good. If you like overpaying and going to trendy places in this economy, then head there.
