Molotov Cocktail Attack Delays Opening for New Black-Owned Coffee Shop and Community Hub in Shoreline - Eater Seattle

"Black Coffee Northwest, an upcoming Black-owned cafe and community center in Shoreline, was almost ready to open for at least drive-thru service after much planning and a fundraising campaign. The shop was damaged by a suspected arsonist, impacting its opening plans. The cafe aspires to be a gathering space for social justice work, a coffee shop, and a community refuge. It aims to be a youth-driven nonprofit that will sell roasts and food from other Black-owned businesses, develop a barista training program, an after-school study hour, a youth outreach initiative, and host cafe conversations around current events." - Gabe Guarente

Google
This is the best coffee bar l have ever been to. The baristas are beyond belief beautiful and the coffee is to die for. The buildings architecture is so cool, especially the bright red canopy's. I recommend this place to anyone.

Google
I’m here daily, either before or after work. They know my drink order and usually start making it when they see me pull up. When I order something different it throws them off! I definitely have my favourite baristas there, each person makes drinks slightly different. Just something to be aware of but great coffee & no burnt beans.

Google
We always stop in for coffee at this location! They have thee best service, they know our orders by heart. Service always comes with a smile. Megan always rocks our coffee! I can not stress enough how much this is our main coffee joint! Thank you ladies for all your kind service!

Google
A real gem! This drive-thru (walk-ups allowed) coffee stand is awesome. Fast, friendly, and excellent service serving up top-notch blended coffee and mixed soda drinks. Been coming here for years and have never been disappointed!

Stopped here for regular espresso drink but they seem to have a unique menus

Google
Black Rock Coffee Bar seriously does rock! I can get through a line, order, pay and be on my way in less than 5 minutes almost every time! And when there is no line, that wait is closer to 2. Excellent coffee at really great prices. I will often drive out of my way to just buy coffee here. Don't forget to ask for a punch card.

Google
Very friendly staff and they make a very good cup of coffee. They will get you through the line quickly with a smile. After a couple of time there they remember what coffee I drank. Even after not going there for awhile they still remembered what coffee I ordered.

Google
Always good and can perfectly reduce the amount of sweet so it's not liquid diabetes. Coffee is never burnt and my six year old lives their steamers because they always taste the same.

Yelp
First time thru this morning and I can't believe I haven't stopped by earlier. This drive thru coffee spot is tucked away on 99 and is such a gem. Their drinks are quirky but delicious and customer service is unreal. The girls working today were unbelievably friendly and gave great recommendations. They were busy so make sure to give yourself time- this isn't a quick Starbucks run. They're making creations in there. Also their breakfast bagel sandwiches are great!

Yelp
I saw this coffee shop go viral on tiktok. Thankfully, they have several locations in North seattle. I made the 45 minute track to get to these amazing looking beverages. Surprisingly, there was no line. And I went right before halloween! The baristas we're very courteous, patient, and I did not feel rushed throughout the whole experience. Unfortunately, they were sold out of most food items except cookies so that was a bummer. I ordered a Dracula's Bride latte, which was a coffee based drink with white coffee. I also ordered the Graveyard for my kiddo which is essentially a giant dirt cup. Even though I had to drive the drinks 45 minutes back down, the integrity of the coffee art stayed for the most part. Taste-wise it was yummy. The white coffee just tastes better in lighter drinks in my opinion. They added a really fun touch with a syringe that was filled with extra syrup. Although I won't be back regularly, it is definitely worth it to make the drive for special holidays!

Yelp
Super cute experience with really good coffee. I'd give the drink itself 4 stars, but aesthetics and service 5 stars. They have a ton of yummy flavor options, but their seasonal ghost option is what I really loved. I would definitely come again and I hope they do different things for each season!

Yelp
Small coffee stand sitting on the side of Aurora heading into Seattle. The stand itself is fine. There are two drive ups from each direction. The menu can be very hard to read because they pack so much information with small print. This stand is known for the off the wall drinks. They get really extravagant with add ons, syrup and even plastic toys. My kid loves the extra touch. Me, personally, I dont care for the taste of the coffee. All the drinks i've had have an odd flavor to them. I assume its the coffee but could be one of the many powders or flavors they add. I would recommend them just for the experience but the cost is a bit much for a drink. And due to the complexity of the drinks service is very slow. If there is a line you may have a long wait.

Yelp
Decent coffee, but they don't make an iced americano correctly, they just give you an idea espresso, so you need to spell it out for them if you want the full beverage.

Yelp
Cute drive-through coffee spot in North Seattle with many specialty drinks. Staff is super friendly and helpful, they are always willing to make suggestions if, like me, you are overwhelmed by the sheer number of available drink options. A few of the options I've tried have been on the too-sweet side for me, but that's a matter of taste. The drinks are presented with all manner of accoutrements, and you can't help but smile when you see the finished product. Lines can be long for sure. It takes time to craft some of the more complex beverages, but you will find it's more than worth the wait, so put on your fave playlist, sit back and get ready to enjoy a tasty drink.

Yelp
Honestly, all the stars. I was in the area for work and desperately needed coffee. I truly just found the first spot on Yelp and quickly went there. I pulled up to one of the classic PNW drive-thru coffee shops! (They also have a walk-up window.) First, the menu is so fun - they have such unique and sometimes whimsical flavors. Fans of flavorful or sweet coffee will love this place! I opted for one of their seasonal specials - a tagalong mocha served with peanut butter cold foam and an actual Girl Scout cookie on top! Then, I also tried their steak and eggs breakfast burrito, served with a side packet of taco sauce. And omg. YUM. It was the perfect small, but hearty breakfast. Cheesy, plenty of eggs, served steaming hot and just so delicious. The staff were also delightful and seemed so happy. I only wish I were in the area longer so I could try more from the menu!

Yelp
Terrible experience. Showed worker pictures of the decorated seasonal "ghost" drinks we wanted. He was agreeable, but ultimately refused to make the pretty drinks without informing us. Nonchalantly handed us plain drinks-- I felt so disrespected! Reached out to Grounds on Instagram and while they were initially apologetic and wanted to make the situation right, they ghosted me after I shared our name. hmm. Wish they ghosted our drinks and not us. Also there are prostitutes and druggies hanging out at this plaza so another reason to AVOID.

Yelp
Love this place. They go the extra mile with their food in their drinks. The baristas always brighten my day if I stop in morning or afternoon.

Yelp
The last few times I have been, have been so-so. I'm used to this neighborhood so didn't seem phased to mention that it's not a great neighborhood to be in but at-least you're safe in your car for the most part. The last time I went and ordered and everything was smooth but the employees just totally ignored me until it was time to pay or get my food and once I did they were nice but in the mean-time they were just talking to each-other like I wasnt a paying customer which is fine except that normally they are super outgoing and like to talk to the customers. Another recent time I went and got two drinks and two sandwiches.. the guy that was helping me was about to let us leave w/out paying or punching my card.. I made sure to remind him that I still had to pay and it was awkward after that and the next time I came he totally ignored me and had someone else help me. I understand it's embarrassing, we all make mistakes. Just had some weird interactions recently. It's also no parking, just drive-through. If you get the works they might drip down the cup on your way home so be prepared with napkins for that. They don't often tell you, but you can ask for a punch card and use it every-time you buy a drink-to get a free drink when it's maxed out.

Yelp
The drinks no longer resemble the pictures on the menu, and it seems like every drink is made the same way without much care. Previously, the older staff put a lot of effort into the presentation, but the new employees don't seem to care as much. On top of that, the store often closes significantly earlier sometimes 1 to 1.5 hours before the posted closing time. If this is the new norm, please update the Google business hours to reflect the actual closing times, or hire staff who can maintain the store's operations from opening to the advertised closing time. The spot is better than Dutch bros, Big foot and mighty mugs!

Yelp
OMG! Energy drinks never tasted this good. Obviously they needed to be put into one of these concoctions.

Yelp
Note: Opened 5/15/23 @ former drive through site that used to be Black Rock, Turtle Coffee, and Red Rock. Welcome Grounds Coffee Co. to North Seattle. The drive through is located at 143rd & Aurora/Hwy 99 next door to Kidd Valley, close to the Seattle - Shoreline border. This indie chain has other established sites located in Woodinville, Mukilteo, Snohomish, and Kenmore. I stopped by during their Grand Opening on 5/15/23. Very nice and upbeat barista that morning. Tasty, perfectly crafted iced mocha! Started a punch card too. Second visit was after a stop at the nearby Bitter Lake Post Office on 5/31/23. Thankful to see two baristas onsite, including the previous upbeat one. Again, good to report consistently crafted iced mochas. I got my usual 16oz and a 32oz (6 shots!) one for The Homie. Their beverage and light bites menu is vast. So many choices and reasonably priced. Definitely recommended!

Yelp
They have nailed the Halloween themed drinks. I love their each and every drink I have ever had. Their service is too good for a drive through coffee shop. Their menu is unique and taste is amazing. They also serve the best golden pumpkin latte which is too good. And you can request them to history for cute ghosts on your drink

Yelp
Bad service.Over price for a drink that's made with a lot of ice and barely any liquid. $12 dollars. The price doesn't change if you want it with candy or without. I won't recommend this place. Go to Starbucks instead or Dutch bros or any other coffe shops. That I can name.

Yelp
It's not your typical quick drive thru spot. SO WHAT?! Perfection takes a sec guys. These drinks are fun and made with love.

Yelp
The place is simply lovely. This became one of my favorite spots. Everyone there is so nice and friendly. The drinks and food are amazing.

Yelp
this place is so fun! this is our "treat" coffee spot and it's always so yummy. I love the fruity drinks especially- I have no clue what it is called but it's blended mango /pineapple smoothie with strawberry float- so delish! great service and it's honestly such a treat and so fun.

Yelp
This has become my go-to coffee place. There are so many options, some over the top, and some simple and delicious. Ultimately , I go for the customer service!! They are so nice, and really make my morning better. We have become regulars and enjoy our stops by, just to say hi. They really care about good coffee, and getting customers through the line. The blackberry pie coffee is my usual. It's amazing! Thank you grounds team for all the hard-work and delicious coffee.

Yelp
This drive thru coffee place is very near to us. Since we have come to reside in this area we have seen 3 businesses come and go. Now Grounds coffee. I always like to go through the menu before trying a new place, I must say I was floored seeing how they served their drinks. Couldn't wait to try. Their were only 3 cars in front of us, service was slow. Their was only 1 barista taking care of all the orders. She took our order, to which I mentioned to make both less sweet. When we came around at the pick up window. She had forgotten it all. We ordered:- Malibu Mocha- Overly Sweet and bitter. Scotcheroo Latte- Did not taste of any butterscotch or chocolate or peanut butter. Just overtly sweet and bitter coffee. Overall, I was drawn to the presentation, it was goood but can the same thing be said about the flavor ?.

Jaelyn P.

Yelp
The drink was so good! It was pretty, which is mostly why I visited from far away. It was nice to pickup while going on a road trip. I thought that the service was good but it took a pretty long time for the drink to get ready. It was probably because the staff there said that it was their first time creating my drink. The Frozen Peach Swirl was about 8 dollars p

Yeah O.

Yelp
-Very friendly staff -Cool drinks -Efficient drive thru system, quick service Would highly recommend for Italian Red Bulls in the Seattle area. :)

Yelp
YUMMY. I'm so excited that there is a coffee stand that offers speciality coffee drinks and energy drinks (redbull & Lotus!) in Seattle. It's so hard to find good stands once you get this far into Seattle, as most are on the East side of I5 or much further North. I'm in Ballard, and I have been driving to Edmonds just for Lotus Energy drinks. Tried out Grounds and I'll definitely be back when I'm craving a treat. Prices are pretty up there, but I wasn't surprised by this - I'm sure there's some sort of "sugar" tax they have to pay due to the ridiculous Seattle taxes. $18 before tip for 24oz Dragon Breeze pink lotus and a bagel sandwich. Both of the workers were kind, the guy working was much more talkative and patient which I appreciated. The candies and fruit on my lotus were fresh and soft. Bagel sandwich was okay - bagel itself was yummy and seemed fresh, however the egg and bacon were eh, probably wont get it again but will try some of their other food options! Advice to the owner(s): please put prices on the menu!

Yelp
Tried this place recently when family was in town - we loved it and have been back every weekend since! My family got some of the energy drinks blends and LOVED them. We've had a few coffee based beverages at this point and haven't been disappointed yet. This place is a regular stop now, the baristas are always so kind and friendly. The cloud foams are my favorite add on, especially the pumpkin one on the fall seasonal menu. Don't forget to ask for a punch card if you're a frequent flier.

Yelp
Super nice people and super cute drinks! The ladies working were very nice and recommended great drinks for us. I had a seasonal tea and my friend had a seasonal energy drink. Both were great and well presented. Will be coming back :)

Yelp
We love Grounds! Super friendly staff, delicious and elaborate drinks, and they make the best pup cups!! I've had coffee, energy drinks, shakes - it's all been so good. Their portions and toppings are very generous.

Yelp
Awesome drinks, comes with candy and the service was great! I would get these drinks everyday if I could. And the food is also delicious. I got the sandwich and was very pleased.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Grounds Coffee (Shoreline). Emma, my weekly barista is fantastic. Not only does she make the most amazing drinks for me each Friday but she also is the sweetest, kindest human. I appreciate her being a real human, talking to me about my life, her life and everything in between. She is not just a barista to me, she is also a friend. So thank goodness for this Shoreline location for bringing me weekly happiness even on the hard work days. The whole team is amazing but if you are looking for someone special to brighten your day look for Emma. :)

Lissette N.

Yelp
Such a fun coffee spot! The baristas are so sweet and take their time to make the drinks look and taste extra special! I drive 20 minutes out of my way to get a special drink!
