"Black Rock Coffee Bar is bringing its fancy coffee drinks to a third location in the Austin area, this time in Hutto. The new cafe is open at 5013 Gattis School Road as of Friday, June 3, and is celebrating with coffee specials all week. Black Rock was founded in Portland in 2008 and has since opened over 100 stores across seven states. The first Austin location opened in 2020 in the Lantana Place complex in South Austin." - Erin Russell

Google
I love Black Rock Coffee, they are always so nice and I love the chocolate bean taste of the coffee. Yeah, most of the time there is a wait but it is well worth it. If you haven't tried their coffee yet you most definitely should. Total 👍🏻.

I come to this Black Rock frequently and normally have great service, but today was disappointing. I placed an online order and got there when it said it would be ready. I wasn't acknowledged when I was waiting at the counter until another guest came in. I finally got to ask for my online order and was handed this. I ordered an iced matcha which should be an obvious green color but this was just brown. The employee who handed it to me was also confused at the color so I asked for a remake and the employee who made it said that's just how it is. I get matcha frequently, and it is never this color. As I already was past my pick up time I had to leave and didn't feel the need to argue as it seemed to be a lost cause, but I would like a refund for my "matcha".

So I dropped by to get a sparkling something or cold brew today. Never been before so this is my first experience. They are out of almost everything. Can’t make many of the classic drinks on the menu. I tried ordering 3 things before I gave up. Barista told me they were out of decaf coffee, so no frappe I ordered the Oreo blended drink. The said they were out of mocha, so he suggested white chocolate. Sure. They give me a white slush. No Oreo. I asked for Oreo and she put it back to the blender. Which was nice. This is the result. Ew. Took a sip and realized that I just lit six bucks on fire.

Google
Update: customer service resolved the issue promptly and politely. Ordered a coffee with light ice and seemed to be given a cup with 99% ice. $15 for a few sips of coffee is crazy, we each got maybe 3 sips of actual coffee. Flavor itself was good from what little I got :(

Google
Coffee and machas are great - the place is nice to hang for a bit! Staff always friendly! I would recomend more options low in sugar (granola cookies - ) baked and made with the best i gredients (nuts - cocunut- drie cherrys) this would go great with my morning coffee

Google
Great little coffee spot. I ordered in person and talked to the barista. I normally drink black coffee, but I wanted to try something new. She recommended the Mexican Mocha. I asked how sweet it was and she said it was sweet. I told her to cut the sugar in half (since I don't like overly sweet coffee). My drink was very tasty, but it was still too sweet. All in all, I am happy and if I am ever in the area again, I would come back.

Google
If you’re looking for coffee other than Starbucks and their Pikes Place this place fits the bill. It’s not as busy and they have different options if you like cinnamon give the Meximoca a try. I prefer Black Rock over Starbucks but they are not as prevalent as Starbucks

Google
BlackRock Coffee Bar ☕️ is the spot ! I love the Moca Chillers, bean and cheese tacos. The staff is always upbeat and friendly! #10 out of #10 And….definitely two thumbs up!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Yelp
I prefer this coffee shop over its competitors in the area for several reasons. First, the service is consistently fast and friendly. Even during peak hours, they work efficiently to prepare your drinks, so I've never had to wait too long. If you're looking for a place to relax, the ambiance inside is modern and inviting, making it a great spot to hang out. The bagels here are absolutely delicious, my favorite is the cinnamon raisin bagel, toasted and topped with butter. This spot tends to stay busy, so parking can be a bit challenging, and the drive-thru line gets long during peak times. However, unless you're on a tight schedule, there's no need to worry the line moves quickly. I hope your experience here is as enjoyable as mine have been!

Yelp
I used to love this place however the last handful of times I have been pretty disappointed. Last year the eggnog latte was heavenly. So flavorful and creamy , I couldn't wait for it to come back. I have ordered it 3 separate times this season and been disappointed each time. Todays coffee taste slightly on the burnt side and not creamy at all. Taste like a coffee from home and with a splash of milk. A couple weeks ago was the same issue. The peppermint bark whitemocha was pretty flavorless this go around as well. I'm not sure if it's the baristas or the ingredients that's causing the change but I hope it goes back to how it once was.

Yelp
This is my first time here very clean very friendly the barista Help us was very knowledgeable and helpful and friendly She walked us through the whole procedure. They have a club that you can join just like Starbucks where you earn points for every drink you buy. I ordered the regular coffee and then my friend came with me she got the Mexican mocha mix. I have pictures of both. The coffee is really good. I got the medium blend and it was good so definitely a place that I would come back to. If you'd like to sit here and enjoy the music and ambience, it's nice so definitely someplace I recommend for a office meeting or a get together with a bunch of friends to drink coffee and talk the afternoon away. I will come back to Black Rock Coffee shop coffee shop for sure.

Yelp
First off, this place is really cute with lots of seating options both inside and outside. It also has drive thru for those looking for a quick in and out. My vehicle is having some maintenance done so I have a few hours to kill. I decided to walk the half mile over here to try it out. I was so happy to see Italian sodas on the menu (I highly recommend adding cream) Not a lot of places offer Italian sodas and they've been one of my favorite treats to get since I was a child. I got a strawberry pineapple Italian cream soda and it made my mouth very happy. I do wish they offered chocolate and peppermint flavor options too (that was my go-to as a kid) but I still very much enjoyed the fruity flavors. The people working here are very friendly and apparently this facility is dog friendly too as someone was inside placing a to-go order with his adorable little fur baby.

Michael D.

Yelp
Clean, welcoming and friendly. Had a great experience having a work meeting at this location. It was nice and I really liked the chai latte.

Raquel M.

Yelp
I had been driving past this location so many times, that I finally stopped to try them out. There was plenty of parking. The exterior of the building was pretty cool (all black) & it was very much to my liking. Upon entering, there were people working & socializing, so it gave me the sense that people really must like their coffee. The baristas greeted me very kindly. I told her it was my first time and she started giving recommendations, which I love! I had a 12 oz hazelnut latte with oat milk, which cost around 7.80ish (pretty steep). Flavor: delish. I'll be coming back!

Yelp
Had the Sunday night blues so we were delighted to find a coffee shop that's still open at 6pm. The service here is excellent, everyone is so happy and cheerful. Music is relaxing for good vibes. What we ordered: Chai latte with whip cream and cinnamon. The chai flavor is not strong so it's mostly sweet, but it's piping hot so that was comforting. I regret adding the whip cream, because it tasted a bit too sweet. Peppermint me (decaf) with sprinkles and whip cream - This was delicious and not that sweet. Definitely glad i came here to close out the weekend on a cheerful and relaxing note. I'll definitely come back for their coffee options in the future.

Maddie E.

Yelp
Hello! Im usually from east austin and always wanted to try this new spot since I saw so much hype! I'm usually 45 min away and needed some coffee around 7pm. I noticed there was only one barista taking orders and making them as well. Huge shout out to Avery!!! Told her it was my first time here and walked me through ordering and answering any questions I had. She had so much patience and such a charismatic, lovely person. P.s the coffee was Amazing! Thank you I will definitely be returning!!

Tracy M.

Yelp
These peeps never disappoint. They're usually always busy, which is a good sign. They have great coffee and great service.

J.S. L.

Yelp
So so glad they added shaken espresso to their menu. I barely frequented this place because most of their drinks were very milky and too sweet, but I saw they had a shaken espresso added to their menu and had to try it. An employee told me her favorite was the honey vanilla shaken espresso and ever since then, it's the only coffee I think of (so much that I try to make it at home pretty often). It's a bit pricey for a coffee in my opinion, but sometimes it's worth it!

Haley Z.

Yelp
Trying the new seasonal iced pumpkin spiced iced and easy tiger seasonal danish! Always love the friendly people in the drive thru, they give helpful tips for personalizing drinks and always ask what I'm up to for the day. Great service.

Netta K.

Yelp
I can't say much for the drive through as I always go in. I have a tendency to complicate things so it's just easier to go in! They were not stumped by my requests! We order a Passion drink which i was not a fan of, it was too thick for me, but my husband likes it! I ordered an Italian soda, no cream, no whip, it was spot on yall!! The employees seemed to really enjoy being there. They were welcoming, had great recommendations, and friendly. The wait to get our drinks was a little longer than I would have thought as they had no one in line inside but the drive thru was nuts! This might be a new place for my Italian soda addiction!

Candice H.

Yelp
The coffees are amazing. They have so many sugar-free choices. It does get busy, but you do get your coffee in a timely matter. The croissants are absolutely delicious. I love the butter one.

Annie L.

Yelp
First time here. Not sure what to order, so I asked for recommendations, the front counter person was nice and take time to explain some of their popular drinks. I got the "Blackout" (hazelnut & mocha), it tasted great! You can taste the nuttiness from hazelnut and the light bitterness from mocha, coffee is strong but does not overshadow other flavors. I love it. The shop is clean and very open, a great place for a quick meet. Highly recommended.

April P.

Yelp
Not very friendly at all. I just picked up a gh order, I had to announce I was there for them to help me as I was passed by. The order Saud it was ready for pick up. It wasn't even started yet.

Eric M.

Yelp
Found this spot while traveling. Great place to catch up on work in a quiet spot. Coffee was really good and the breakfast sandwiches were fresh and tasty. They definitely know how to take care of their customers. Looked like there were quite a few regulars.

Tess G.

Yelp
My go to for coffee !! The coffee is top tier and they are consistent with your order. Staff is excellent always and helpful. Chill relaxed on inside of want to hang out. The pastries are excellent as well.

Nkeng F.

Yelp
Service was Awesome with sufficient seating for me to do some work. My order was made correctly and barrister was patient with me as long as decided.

Jessica M.

Yelp
He went above and beyond splitting a free drink for my kids into 4 cups and adding whipped cream on top... Not only did it save me about $20 buying a smoothie somewhere else it made my kids extremely happy!

Terra A.

Yelp
Yum yum yummy coffee. Never a bad cup. Friendly service. One of my two favorite coffee spots.

Alyssa R.

Yelp
I went through the drive through and was greeted by a super friendly girl. She helped me pick out the Caramel Blondie, which was 10 out of 10! Not overly sweet but i could still taste the caramel. I also got a chocolate chip cookie. Also delicious! I only knocked off 1 start because pricing is a bit more than I'd like, but this is definitely someplace I'd go if i wanted to treat myself. Bonus: they have a loyalty program

John M.

Yelp
Just yes!!..we were so excited to watch this place come to life. Although we live in Manor, we frequent the HEB which makes Black Rock a must stop. Super friendly and great cold brews. There is no doubt we will be back!

Michelle N.

Yelp
It's a like a Starbucks but livelier! Ordered the ice white mocha with almond milk. Thought it was pretty good! Service was fast and the cashier was helpful and nice.

Bailey R.

Yelp
It was recommended by a friend that my partner and I check this place out while in Austin. It was very good, but it was also very expensive! $18 for a small chai latte for me and a 20oz mocha for my partner. We also tipped the staff, which is what pushed our total from ~$15 to $18. We usually spend about $11-$12 at Starbucks and will probably stick with that I will say, I was VERY impressed with how long my latte stayed hot! And I mean, HOT! We were in Austin the day after the cold front blew through, dropping the temperature to the 40s during the day. We grabbed our drinks around 5ish on our way back to Houston and my latte was still PIPING HOT (like, I-burnt-my-tongue-on-it-twice hot) 35+ minutes later! I prefer my hot drinks lukewarm so I wasn't pleased that it took forever to cool down, but my partner loves piping-hot drinks so he was a fan. Also, the staff was super friendly, which is something I always appreciate and look for when trying new places!

Madi M.

Yelp
Another chain of expensive coffee and other fancy drinks. I still will go to pecan cafe bar and coffee, dozzle coffee which are LOCAL BUSINESSES or Starbucks which always offers good coffee.

Vineet C.

Yelp
First time visiting a Black Rock and I'm a fan. There aren't that many coffee options over in in this area or at least that's how it seems to me so I had to give it a try considering there is ALWAYS a line at the drive thru. Having tried the iced coffee I can now understand why it's so popular here. Stopped for a few drinks during our first visit: blackout iced coffee, Mexican mocha iced, and 2 kids strawberry smoothie. The blackout was my favorite coffee drink of the bunch but I love hazelnut mochas in general. The kids smoothies were great and came in reusable cups, so now we have some nice cups for them to use around the house! To avoid the huge queue I went on the weekend in the morning (~8am) but in general the weekends look better from a wait perspective. Once you order though it's pretty quick turnaround.

Phuong C.

Yelp
I have been waiting for their opening. It was my very 1st time trying their coffee. Their drive-thru was wrapped around many blocks, but we parked the car to get inside. The interior is just beautiful, heigh ceilings, lots of natural light through the windows, some modern light fixtures, big clean tables and comfy chairs. I love that it's so open and light. And the brightest lights are those smiles the staff are wearing. It makes such a difference in the experience. Their friendly staff were well prepared and very helpful. One recommended me to try the Mexican mocha, for my love of hot coffee and vanilla. And it was AMAZING! It is really flavorful coffee. Not watered down or anything, it hits all the spots for a great kick off to the weekend. I'm definitely coming back to try the other recommendations. They have plenty of refreshment and non-caffeinated options for the little ones. And even energy drinks, which is new to me to find in a coffee house. My kids tried the passionfruit Italian Soda and a strawberry smoothie. My sister had a cold brew. And because it was their grand opening, all 16Oz. drinks were free. They have opening deals going on for the entire week, so make sure to check them out and try them all. I'll definitely be back for more.

Teresa B.

Yelp
First off, this place is gorgeous! Very clean and modern. They do have outdoor space, but it is right behind the drive through call box....maybe a greenery wall or something would help separate it...but I didn't get out so Im not sure how loud the feedback is from the people ordering . We drove through on Sunday and there was quite a line but these folks were hustling and it went very fast! The drinks we got were great! I ordered the blended Caramel Blondie and it was so good...the perfect amount of sweetness. My fiancé got a blended Caramel Truffle. It was less caramel (there wasn't actually any in his) and more mocha flavored and not as sweet. He thought it was okay but we both preferred mine. My toddler got a peach smoothie and it was just perfect for him.

Dee F.

Yelp
I was excited about this place since it opened. There was always a line in the drive-thru. I finally got a chance to try it. I got their Mexican mocha and a latte. They were decent, but unfortunately I was a little underwhelmed with the flavor for both. Their pastries, especially their scones were good. I might have to come back to try their drinks. Maybe I just came on an "off" day. The place is clean, and they have some nice chairs to lounge in.

Katherine C.

Yelp
Love this place! Everyone is always so friendly. Even when the drive-through line is long, it moves so quickly. It's nice to find a place where people seem to enjoy their job and their coworkers! Keep up the great work, Black Rock Hutto!!! PS the coffee is awesome too!

Dutch D.

Yelp
This is the kind of coffee shop that becomes your "go to" place whether it's meeting friends, working or just getting a great cup of coffee in the drive through. The wide range of drinks (hot, cold and energy), sizes and flavors (a great selection of both sugared and sugar free) AND the AWESOME customer service keeps me coming back. Day after day. It doesn't matter what time of the day I drop by, the staff is bright and happy and engaging and is always a pleasant addition to my day. I hadn't been going there very long and they learned my name and greet me now every time I walk in the door. This is MY coffee shop now. Love it here!

Courtney B.

Yelp
So far so good! Anxiously been awaiting the opening to this new coffee place conveniently located off the toll. They are having specials all week long to celebrate! I first want to say the staff have clearly been well prepped and trained and from the line that wrapped around the street to me having a coffee in my hand was under 15 mins. If that's how they operate opening day consider the bar set! I went w the Mexican Mocha which has almond, vanilla and cinnamon. It's really delicious and definitely chocolate/mocha flavored. Only slight suggestion is the plastic cup the drinks came in are quite flimsy. I will be returning to try more within the week. Also they have a reward app for points.

Patricia V.

Yelp
Coffee is surprisingly good for it being a chain. The staff were nice and signed me up for their loyalty program. And of course the drive thru!

Brian C.

Yelp
Waited 10 minutes for a stone cold toasted bagel. Then threw away the iced coffee. Tasted burnt and so. Bitter could not drink it. Sad looks like a cool place.

Jacyn R.

Yelp
The service is great, I love the coffee, but the flies are having a party where the croissants are warmed (behind the white brick wall) If I can see the flies, the employees can see them.

Lora C.

Yelp
What a cute little coffee shop!! I was in Texas visiting friends and they took me here. The drink was delicious and the service was prompt! I'll be going back to see them in June and I'm making a request to stop here again

Laurie S.

Yelp
Very clean. Pretty. The baristas were fast. Prices are fair. Unfortunately they pull the espresso too long or something and the coffee is bitter and burnt. It happens at SB too. Dutch brothers and summer moon have great coffee. Chemn cafe in Elgin is most consistent with a great latte. Everyone is in such a hurry, but rushing gets you bitter coffee.

Kevin I.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I'm a caffeine addict. When Black Rock was being built I literally counted the days. Finally a coffee option that 1) wasn't 20 minutes away and 2) wasn't Starbucks. Since it opened it has become my go to and I occasionally cheat with Dutch Bros. Don't tell anyone. The coffee is quite good and rich and my favorite is the Blackout with two extra shots. The blended version creates a taste orgasm. It's also one of the few places that actually freshly grinds the beans as the drinks are made. Others may with an automatic machine but it's the manual physical act that makes it special.it's richly flavored and unburnt. My next favorite is the Sunrise Fuel. The XL Fuel isn't cheap but it is an all day caffeine burst. It's amazingly addictive (I don't know why...it's only a gazillion mg of caffeine). The staff are always very nice. A step above Starbucks to be sure. Inside is clean and pretty hip with good seating. A lot of folks go there to study it seems, which is nice to see again. It's very relaxing inside as well.

Justin M.

Yelp
Came here for an early morning drink and overall wasn't pleased with the drink I received. I ordered the Eggnog latte and it was so unimaginably sweet I almost couldn't drink it. I have had eggnog lattes before at coffee shops and they were nowhere near this sweet. Overall Black Rock is still a good choice if you're in the area but I think I will stick to my normal drinks or add a lot of espresso shots into my drink.

Patricia V.

Yelp
Great service and good quality coffee. Their drinks and pastries are delicious, you can't go wrong. 10/10

Angela M.

Yelp
They are so close to my house so I'm in trouble...I, along with everyone else in the neighborhood it seemed like checked them during their opening day free drinks for all! I was tempted to try a few drinks but limited myself to the Mexican mocha blended. It was like a milkshake. I've been back three days this week. I've tried the fuel, sugar free with sugar free watermelon. Delicious! I've also tried the cold brew. Jazzed me up! Got my husband another Mexican mocha and he inhaled it. Even got the dogs a puppy-cino and they fought over it. They are all so friendly here, and the layout is great for me with ingress and egress. Can't wait to try more things on the menu.

Wendy Q.

Yelp
I've only been here oncd and tried Mexican Vanilla iced coffee, it was so good, try it!

Sandy M.

Yelp
Awful! Dirty and stale tasting espresso. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Thinking it was a one time bad experience so I gave it three more chances with no change. Overpriced pastries. Do not recommend.

Morgan M.

Yelp
I've only had the Irish coffee, but every time it's been great. I recommend this coffee shop over Starbucks any day. More authentic and doesn't have franchise written all over it. Even though most things about this place are great, I'm giving 4 stars based on personal preference. I don't appreciate that the baristas are asking for tips, even through the drive through window. I'm paying $6+ for a regular coffee and am prompted to leave a 15%-22% tip as well? I believe this is a guilt tactic and I refuse to give a tip to an establishment that should be paying their workers accordingly. It should not be on the customer to not only pay the full price of the items but also pay their earnings for a coffee that took 1 minute to make?

Jaimie J.

Yelp
It is really good, service is really good and fast, and their pup cups come with a little dog treat inside! I do agree that it is more on the expensive side... $7.09 for a medium latte with oat milk hence the less 1 star. There is a local small coffee shop next to smoothie king in the HEB parking lot that also has a drive thru, is less expensive and just as delicious, called Dwell Coffee House.

Ashley I.

Yelp
The only way I am surviving motherhood is by visiting Black Rock after dropping my daughter off at daycare each day & before going to work after getting zero sleep the night before. The Jackhammer gives me the extra boost I need to survive the day. PS - Do NOT order the raspberry rose danish unless you want to taste roses the rest of the day. 0/10 do not recommend that menu item.

Richard O.

Yelp
GREAT COFFEE SPOT!!! Fist time having Black Rock Coffee I am usually a Summer Moon type of guy, but this is GOOD! I definitely recommend this coffee spot!

Cindy C.

Yelp
This coffee location is so ideal and convenient for our neighborhood commute. Placed right on a corner and next door to a McDonald's and 7 eleven. The drive-thru can get super busy but the team gets you through quick enough. I met Kingsley' a team player, friendly, big smile and a great personality. Always greets me and remembers me from previous visits. Inside is rocking with a fun and relaxed atmosphere with music bass in back ground. The store is spotless and bathroom is clean. The coffee is delicious' a blackout, & caramel truffle.... We have tried and enjoyed each. My hubby likes the blackout with it's hazelnut flavor. They also have smoothies, teas, & energy drinks. They sell there logo merchandise' if you like that kind of thing and wifi is available. It's a must to try. Guaranteed.. that you will visit again. Enjoy!

Mom O.

Yelp
Only good thing about this place is Sage. There coffee is ok, music is always too loud, food is over priced. Sage is always ready with a smile and warm greeting. If not for her, I would not even bother.
