I posted a review of this Black Seed Bagels location way back during the early days it opened; it's no longer there in Google map so here's a fresh one: It's our weekend go-to breakfast spot. Plain and cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese plus large coffee are our regular choices ; others are their seasonal or new offerings on their menu. I find their price points ( i.e. bagel sandwiches) are a bit higher compared to other bagel shops in the vicinity; but it's worth! There are interior and sidewalk seatings, street parking ONLY; you can also order online through their app...

Alexa Mucci

Google
To be honest they should just remove all sandwiches from their menu and I'd review them 5 stars. The bagels are delicious, but ONE slice of lox???? On a $15 sandwich. This should be illegal in New York City. Leaving this review with intention so I never forget that you can't order sandwiches from this place, just plain bagels. Because the bagels truly are decent.

Google
Just spent $12.47 for a single Pastrami Egg and Cheese bagel that is one of the worst I’ve ever had… ordered at 8:05 on a Monday morning (they open at 8) and didn’t get it toasted assuming they would be reasonably fresh. Received my order on the saddest cold and stale bagel. Thinking there must of been a misunderstanding, I went back and nicely asked if I could have a different/hot bagel and they said it would have to be toasted as the bagels weren’t fresh… I was disappointed to hear this have had Black Seed before and expected it would be good nonetheless. The staff seemed irritable so I didn’t say anything when they separated the same sad bagel from the filling and put it in to toast. When I walked the three minutes to my home and unwrapped the redone bagel, I noticed that it had about half as much filling as before. Moreover, the bagel itself was rock hard. I’m honestly so disappointed. I don’t have $12+ to throw away and that’s exactly how this feels. Definitely won’t be back and will be recommending people steer clear/stick to NY bagels at half the price and twice the quality.

Google
other locations of black seed bagels are great - but this one is trash. They consistently dont seem to understand the difference btwn a burned bagel and a toasted one. They just gave me a bagel with nothing but creamcheese after i ordered and paid for a bagel with lox, capers, and cream cheese. They clearly dont know how to read or pay attention to what they are doing. pick a different location for your bagel needs.

Gavin Zhang

Google
They toast all their bagels by default. My everything bagel became a plain bagel after I had to scrape off all the burnt bits, and it still tasted like charcoal. The sesame bagel was great though. I visited not long after they opened this location and took a second chance coming back.. I won't be making the same mistake a 3rd time.

Google
So you want a bagel but are too hungover to deal with the 40 min wait at Knickerbocker Bagel? Enter Black Seed the clutch bagel spot that lives in the shadow of the previously mentioned shop. But sometimes that’s a good thing especially for us the bagel consumer. Every bagel I’ve had here hangs with other great bagel shops and with less wait. They have classic breakfast sandwiches as well as other items but let’s be honest your hear for the bagels and they are all good. I got the BLT on a sesame seed bagel and my GF tried a regular bagel with cream cheese and hot honey which was actually better than my BLT it was an incredible paring. It’s very likely the #2 bagel in Bushwick but when you’re eating in half the time as the #1 spot it has its major advantages.

m m

Google
These people make bagels that are the quality of grocery store bagels. Worst bagels for the price in Bushwick area. 2 blocks down you have Knickerbocker Bagel (top 5 bagel spots in the city) please walk down there and get it instead! If you want this quality, walk into any supermarket instead. It's a crime how horrible their bagels are lmao!

Google
I swear they have the most incompetent workers ever. Have ordered a BEC 3 times, and never get any bacon, they always somehow always forget the main ingredient of the sandwich. Also they never give you straws or all the condiments you ask for, so don’t even bother. A shame because the food itself is pretty good. The service however?….horrid.

Yelp
Being dairy-free and gluten-free has its disadvantages when considering you love New York Bagels. In the days before gluten became a problem, I loved going to the bagel bakeries in New York. When we lived there, we had them all of the time. Now, we live in Chicago. While the bagels are very good, there is something about a New York Water Bagel. After searching, we found a few places that offered gluten-free bagels and dairy-free cream cheese (made from Tofu). We all ordered our bagels, and I ordered a plain gluten-free one. (They also had everything gluten-free bagels.) It was not quite the same as a real bagel made with flour. But, it tasted good and had the right consistency. I've tried a number of packaged bagels and they aren't very good. I was unsure if there were options for me any longer. I did learn recently that there are places in Chicago where you can get the same. I'll definitly try. I hope they will be as good. Frankly, if they are better than the packaged ones, I'll be happy. But, I may just mail-order some every once is a while.

Yelp
I was like " oh they make bagels inside the store wow." But it's not real bagel... I got lox with cream cheese, Cream cheese was somehow grainy, not creamy. Service was ok. It has bagel factory vibe but it's not real bagel. Disappointed.

Chika D.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to stop in here on Saturday (07/22) afternoon after securing a surprise bag on the Too Good to Go app. (According to Wikipedia, the Too Good to Go app "connects customers to restaurants and stores that have surplus unsold food.") My bag consisted of six fresh bagels -- sesame seed, everything seasoning, and raisin -- and two 2 oz portion cups of plain cream cheese and scallion cream cheese. The latter cream cheese had nice chunks of scallion. I should note that I don't eat bagels enough to know if this is a typical NYC bagel. Anyway, I opted to smear each cream cheese on a (toasted) everything seasoning bagel once I returned home. The cream cheeses were beautifully whipped and creamy, with the plain being my favorite of the two. The scallion one was a bit too onion forward for my taste. There is seating outside for whoever wants to catch some sun rays and a few tables inside for those who want to bask in the cool. After viewing the menu, I can say I definitely got a great deal with the app. The bagels are a bit pricey (I haven't had a store bought bagel in forever but do y'all remember when a toasted bagel w/ plain cream cheese used to go for no more than $1.25?!) No complaints about the customer service but I doubt I'd return without the app nor if I'm not in the vicinity.

Yelp
I came here specifically for the gluten free bagel, it's really nice that they have a plain and everything bagel in GF. We had order the toasted everything bagel with cream cheese and they gave us a plain one. When I went to ask, they said they had run out of everything. Would have been nice if they told me about this but I was still happy to be able to enjoy a bagel. I understand that they were busy and the staff was very nice but I did feel that it was barely toasted, the inside was still totally untoasted. Wish they had put in a bit for effort.

Zoe B.

Yelp
Toasted perfectly, great taste. I always get the everything bagel and switch up toppings, today was the scallion tofu cream cheese with bacon

David V.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery, a little pricy but was quick and good. Whole wheat everything with tofu scallion cream cheese, delicious. Bagels are not massive, and have a nice chew to them. Look forward to trying them again!

Romy M.

Yelp
THIS IS A ZERO STAR EXPERIENCE. I am DISGUSTED. This is the most abhorrent unsanitary disgusting and unsafe experience I've ever had with a restaurant. There was a f**** EARRING in my bagel. I am nauseous. I could've choked to death for one.... But God knows what germs are on that. DISGUSTING. I am SO SICK to my stomach. What must be going on in that kitchen for a whole earring to fall out of someone's ear and they did not notice??? SO NEGLIGENT. THEY DONT GIVE A F*** about the quality or sanitary conditions of the food they are serving. Horrible. Disgusting. Neglectful.

Sofi B.

Yelp
I got the most expensive salmon bagel. It was sadly a big disappointment. Flavors were not balanced, could only really taste the tomate and cream cheese. I'm annoyed I spent so much and it was thaaat meeeh. Service was great though... Won't come back, don't recommend.

Mike M.

Yelp
Just a solid "ok". The staff here are truly wonderful and engaging which is nice but when it comes to the bagel? Not so much. The bagels here don't have that classic NY chew. They were soft though. Maybe they skip one of the important steps when it comes to baking a true NY bagel. Kettle? Wood boards? I know black seed has some sort of cult following city wide but for me the bagels here don't even make it in my top 5 bagel spots. Give them a try maybe.

Brady R.

Yelp
Limited selection, but great bagels overall. My partner enjoyed one of their very filling breakfast sandwiches.

Cathy D.

Yelp
Decent but pricey bagel shop. My friend and I walked there so we could try their summertime-only chocolate babka ice cream sandwich. My friend loved it and was quite impressed. I got an everything bagel (there weren't onion bagels) with lox and cream cheese. It was good but nothing out of this world. A little pricey. Felt very safe and extremely clean. Outdoor seating.

Jordan P.

Yelp
sooo yummy! had the lox on everything and I already want to eat it again. perfect squishy bagel with a light toasting. Super sweet staff too! Thanks yall!

Nicole C.

Yelp
I live nearby and come here occasionally for a GF bagel. It's one of the only places that doesn't serve GF bagels the size of an Oreo. I came early on the way to the airport today and no one else was waiting for food. Paid the usual too much for toppings on a bagel and tipped the 20% as echoed by other reviews. It took almost 30 minutes. I'm literally lucky if I make my flight. Also- asked for both bagels toasted and they are still frozen. If GF wasn't tough enough- frozen is simply inedible. I honestly feel like I'm going to puke after a couple bites. How many people does it take to toast a bagel and spread cream cheese on it?

Marina S.

Yelp
Holy moly, this was an expensive bagel. Black Seed Bagels specializes in Montreal style bagels, which are smaller and less fluffy than a traditional New York Bagel. I got an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, and avocado and it ended up being like ~$17. The bagel was dense and chewy. They weren't exactly liberal with the other ingredients for what I paid, but c'est la vie. Overall, it was a very good bagel using high quality ingredients, but it unfortunately won't be in my regular rotation. There's a nice outdoor seating area and plenty of coffee options as well.

Luis P.

Yelp
Great bagels and sandwiches! I'm here almost every day with my little girl, Zoe, a Frenchie. Whenever we walk in, we're treated like family, not just as customers. I love this place and the staff is wonderful. Much love to Bri, Tracie, Cristina, Nia, Bosha, Juan, Pauline, and all the others.

Andrew K.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for new breakfast spots because lets be honest, no two places make breakfast sandwiches alike. I often order a BEC wherever I go just to compare things on an even playing field. Black Seed Bagel definitely hits their BEC out of the park. Quality portion size and deliciously flavored food. Definitely would recommend going to one of their locations as I'll certainly be back to sample the rest of their menu. Pro Tip: Order in advance for pickup, the line can get pretty long.

Taylor B.

Yelp
I'd like to give this a 3.5 Bagel was okay, not the best quality but the rest of the sandwich was good (classic BEC) the egg could've been cooked longer I don't like runny in my sandwich more fried kinda girl. Overall was okay probably won't go again Friend got the BEC Avocado which was also okay per review

Saige G.

Yelp
a really great, quality bagel every time. i come here every morning & refuse to go to any other bagel place! plus, all the staff are soo sweet :)

Vanessa B.

Yelp
The BEC bagel was delicious ! The bagel was fresh. I would highly recommend Black Seed Bagels.

Anthony F.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this spot. Literally the go to for a fresh bagel but recently the service has been literally terrible. Everyone acts like they hate their job and just over life. I go and get my food literally tossed at me. I gave 2 stars because the bagels are still good but my last few visits have been all but good. Even got my gf a bagel and they used the same knife to cut her bagel as they did for something else and just killed it for her. Not such a big deal but they don't sell $2 bagels so at least the cross contamination should be on point. Again it hasn't always been like this but the last 2 months just been bad so sadly I won't be returning. Especially since other bagels spots near by at least seem happy to have your business

Kate N.

Yelp
After walking past this location multiple times, my roommate and I finally decided to take the plunge and try Black Seed Bagels. I came this afternoon to pick up our lunch to bring back home. You go up to a counter outside to place your order. The staff was wearing masks the entire time, however I wish they had enforced customers that were coming up to the counter to wear a mask. There was a sign near by that said, you must wear a mask except when eating, but it clearly wasn't being followed or enforced by the employees. There are a couple of tables with chairs and two benches underneath one big umbrella. For the summer they have a special menu that you can only order from. I had the pastrami salmon and grabbed a BLT for my roomie, both made on plain bagels. We would have preferred everything bagels, however they unfortunately were out of them by the time I arrived a little after 12pm. The service was fairly quick and the woman who took my order was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. The pastrami salmon was very delicious, lots of flavor, cut thin, and clearly very fresh. The scallion cream cheese was very creamy and had a nice ratio of scallions to cream cheese. Unfortunately the bagel was a bit of a let down. The plain bagel tasted grocery store bought and not worth the price of the sandwich. This place is a little pricier, so I was expecting a better, fluffier bagel. Maybe the other bagel flavors are better. My roomie enjoyed the BLT, she said the bacon was very crispy, and the spicy mayo a nice touch. She agreed with me on the bagel, however. I would return to Black Seed Bagels, hopefully to try one of their everything bagels. It would be very disappointing for a place with "bagels" in its name to not have any good bagels. The smoked salmon and cream cheese is absolutely worth it though. It doesn't skimp on flavor and the amount put on the bagel is decent.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Chic spot in Brooklyn. Had heard good things about it so we stopped in. Cold brew was house made and ratio was perfect. Bagels were wood fired and had a nice crunch on the outside. A bit bready for my bagel taste but still good. The egg could've used another minute or two on the griddle. I would give it another chance if I'm around the around.

Rikiesha W.

Yelp
These were some stale bagels! No way they were made that morning! 2 stars because they had a bathroom.

Lucie M.

Yelp
great gluten free bagels! I've never been able to pick up an easy breazy gf bagel (thats full size) until going to blackseed - now its my new go to!

Michelle H.

Yelp
The Bagels are good but everytime I order I request my Bagel to be Extra Toasted only to end up with a Bagel that was NEVER TOASTED. This is so darn annoying. What's the point of giving options on the menu only to NOT GET what I chose?

Rich M.

Yelp
Bagel tastes great and employees seem very nice! Unfortunately, this place is robbing their community! I paid 15$ for a tuna bagel and a small coffee! MINIMAL TUNA, a thin layer AT MOST! How can they do this to their community? Value is below standard! The owner has put his profits and greed before their community and value! Sad I will never be able to afford a bagel here again, happy I will not support a greedy owner!

Kaitlyn M.

Yelp
Would give 0. Had to get a refund because I waited 10 min for a bagel with just cream cheese to be told to wait longer. The guy at the register was very rude and they did a ton of to go orders before attempting our order

Nala P.

Yelp
Pretty good bagels but Knickerbocker Bagel is better. The bagels are small and pricey. I enjoy their breakfast sandwich bagels. Pizza bagel was not so great but overall they aren't bad.

Bre Y.

Yelp
I ordered from here on a sunday morning. Delivery was quick! I ordered a sesame bagel with vegetable cream cheese, and two single bagels (everything & rye) and 2 sides of vegetable cream cheese for later. I received sides of plain cream cheese. As far as the prepared bagel, it was decent. I found it to be a bit doughy and bland, even with the cream cheese. I would give them another try to see if it may have been an off order!

Luis P.

Yelp
The bagel sandwiches are awesome and the staff is great! I'm here almost every day and they treat me so well. I appreciate them very much. They all love my Frenchie, Zoe, too!

Michael C.

Yelp
Wow!! That was delicious! First I have to say the staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the P.E.C. and it hit the spot. The bagel was the perfect texture and the pastrami was perfectly smoky and delicious. I'm definitely going back.

Ben V.

Yelp
Amazing bacon egg and cheese ordered on Uber eats and it came very quickly, toasted on an everything bagel

greg c.

Yelp
This BSB location is beyond disappointing. I just spent over $11 for a tuna salad on a bagel (for me, going to BSB is like a special treat)... tipped 20% on top of that... and by the time the sleepwalking employee finished preparing the sandwich (I dunno... 5-7 minutes after the bagel was toasted) and then put it on a counter while it awaited the next sleepwalking employee to put it in a bag and hand it to me, what was once a warm, toasted bagel was cold and hard. Watching someone prepare your food so painfully slow and everyone around them move as though they're all stoned out of their gourds is monumentally frustrating. I work nearby and will 100% not be returning here. There's better options all around the neighborhood. Owners need to wake up and do something about this spot from top to bottom. Management, customer service, and quality control. I truly enjoy the offerings from their other locations... but this one gets a hard no from me.

Eric M.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN. Terrible service. Can't pick up a take out order because there NO ONE WORKING THE PICKUP COUTER EVER. Same thing every time. Done. There's another bagel shop around the corner.

Alex K.

Yelp
Possibly the slowest business in the history or man kind. Delivery especially. I've ordered from here multiple times with hope of change and I've either had to cancel the order or it's taken literal hours to get made. This is for just one sandwich and a coffee. Food isn't bad but they've gotta clean up their workflow....

Kara F.

Yelp
We've been to black seed twice since it opened in bushwick and it's sooo good. The bagels are amazing. Both times I've got the veggie bagel. Will definitely visit regularly.

Aaron G.

Yelp
Totally average bagel sandwich. Service was quick and staff was nice. Really nothing special for how much it costs. Very light on toppings and dry.

Seth L.

Yelp
this place is soooo expensive they tried charging me an additional $4 for a SCHMEAR of cream cheese on my already $10 bagel sandwhich. get real!

Irene O.

Yelp
A warning to gluten free customers. Black Seed used to have really good, safe gluten free bagels from Modern Bread and Bagel. They recently changed the brand they use and they are NOT safe for people with celiac or wheat allergies anymore. I ate one unknowingly and got sick. I emailed Black Seed customer service about this and they never got back to me. It is unfortunate that they do not seem to care about their loyal customers with any actually medical necessity for being gluten free, just trying to cater to a trend. I used to come here every week, it's very disappointing.

Natalka R.

Yelp
so glad they have gluten free bagels and vegan cream cheese! both are very tasty. get a gluten free bagel as a sandwich though and it's pretty expensive (around $16). otherwise, very friendly staff, clean and a cute outside space. a fun spot to go to on the weekend.

Devin H.

Yelp
The food is consistent and the coffee is solid. My main complaint is with the delivery & pickup service. There is no verification whatsoever at the counter. Anyone and their mother can walk in and grab a bag whenever they feel like it and this has caused frustration on multiple occasions for me where orders have had to be cancelled. As a chain restaurant this is pretty embarrassing. Simple verification for these orders should be an easy life for Black Seed.

Kiyana C.

Yelp
Super disappointed. I started ordering from Black Seed Bagels earlier this week and did so for three days in a row. I was excited to have found a new neighborhood spot to support and become a regular at! Unfortunately, my order today was beyond dismal and started the day off on the wrong foot. They didn't bother including my iced coffee with the delivery, nor did they pay attention to the important request to not put tomatoes in with the tuna salad bagel (my roommate is highly allergic). I offered to switch my sandwich with hers, but the tuna salad itself was slimy and just not very appetizing. Straight in the garbage it went. Today really just showed that they don't care enough about the paying customer to simply... just... look at the receipt. I have no interest in ordering from here again and never will. Gross.

Sydney T.

Yelp
Super cute place and very friendly great staff but the bagels are just not good. Very disappointing

Angela J.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try a NY bagel and Black Seed Bagels on Elizabeth Street did not disappoint. I ordered an egg, bacon and avocado sandwich with scallion cream cheese. The service was great and I inhaled that sandwich...so good!

Katie L.

Yelp
Amazing gluten free bagel!! One of the best gluten free bagels I've ever had - and getting more than one option for what flavor was so amazing! Went with the everything bagel boca breakfast sandwich and it was delicious! In my opinion it was worth the price

Caitlin G.

Yelp
They put bacon on my egg sandwich after I asked and confirmed that it's not for the sandwich it's for my dog, then when I got my bag and noticed no side of bacon they proceeded to tell me I asked for a bacon sandwich..??? And that we didn't literally just had the conversation about how I wanted the bacon NOT on the sandwich. Then I got home and both sandwiches were cold as in not toasted. How do you just not toast a bagel sandwich?? And yes i asked for them toasted. But this is the best part-- they didn't put ketchup or cheese or salt or pepper on the egg sandwich.

Céline A.

Yelp
So I love black seed bagel but this location totally sucks! I stopped by for a bagel this morning and the staff was unprofessional and rude. First no one was by the register or even on the floor when I arrived so I wasn't sure whether they were actually open despite the sign outside since no one was there, when I said "hello?" No one answered and she finally came to the register a few minutes later with a terrible attitude as if I should feel bad for wanting to order breakfast. They didn't have most stuff the other locations usually have such as morning pastries and she didn't even know what was in stock since I ordered a sunflower spread and ended up with a herb purée because it wasn't even in stock after she literally offered the option. I still tipped because I understand due to COVID people are struggling but i honestly don't recommend this location at all!

Boloutare D.

Yelp
Normally this place is good, but i had a few employees make fun of my "weird name" at the pickup window. In a diverse neighborhood with people from all over the world. Don't come here unless you want to be made fun of for not having an Anglicized name
