Google
I really, really, really love bagels so I wanted to really, really, really love this place. Unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. I ordered a BEC on a sesame bagel (which was burnt) and it was just OK. I also order 6 bagels and my overall review is the bagels are smaller than most bagels I’ve tried, they were not as airy and fluffy as I prefer and there was no wow factor. They have a few locations so they must be doing something right. The shop was clean and the service was outstanding.

Google
Had an egg bagel sandwich which was super yummy. Took about 20 mins to make but they gave you a heads up when you order which is helpful. Would recommend

Google
Fantastic shop to stop at if your visiting NY and want great bagels and fantastic customer service. The man who was checking us out (I didn’t catch his name) was so kind throughout our entire experience. On top of the great customer service the bagels were amazing. I tried the Boca and loved it.

Natasha Patel

Google
Very tasty veggie bagel with vegan cream cheese (scallion tofu). It was stacked with veggies and loved the capers. It’s has been a while since I had a vegan bagel sandwich and the vegan scallion tofu cream cheese satisfying my craving. My only critique was wish it had a flavorful sauce to take it over the top. Shop was pretty busy, heads up!

Google
🥯 heard about this bagel spot and decided I’d give it a try. The bagels were more breast than I like but not bad. They were fresh and the price seems to be the going “normal” these days. The staff was attentive and greeted me as I came in which was nice. They were friendly and offered assistance and to order when I was ready. It’s a nice spot. Next time I’ll try the coffee! Overall good bagel spot just not a heavier bready guy.

Google
We tried their egg and cheese bagel and hot coffee. The overall taste was decent. The bagels felt not so fresh but overall okay. Although a little pricey for portion and size of bagel.

Google
I thought it was decent bagels. I've definitely had better but this is a nice little pit stop on the way to work. I got the multigrain everything bagel with plain cheese. They definitely took the "too much bread not enough cream cheese" feedback to heart. They loaded this thing! Which is a good thing any time in my book. Cute little place with a happy vibe.

Google
The. Best. Bagel. I had on my trip hands down! There's a ton of hype at other places, and I tried them all, but this blew them all away. Solid bagel, great spread, tons of options, and Topo Chico for sale. What else could you want?

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Small counter service location with a few bar stools around the perimeter wall for eating in. As expected, this is a quick in/out bagel joint. I tried the BOCA and added hot honey cream cheese for a little kick, on an everything bagel. It was delicious but super messy so you'll want to be stationary to eat it. Bagel had a nice crust but not hard to bite into. Really fluffy on the inside w the perfect "chew." Service was super friendly at the register and she was so helpful giving suggestions and helping me make decisions. I picked up a 1/2 dozen plain bagels and will see how those are later.

Nick N.

Yelp
10 dollars for a ham, egg, and cheese is a little much in my opinion, but it was good. I feel like 3 stars is a little harsh but their bagel selection was very limited considering this is a bagel place. There's a million other New York bagel spots so it's gotta be good to compete with the best of em and this one was just fine.

Valerie P.

Yelp
I'm not a local, so I can't vouch for how their prices compare to other bagel shops in the city, but $20 for a salmon classic and iced tea seemed a little high. That said, it was tasty! The shop itself is small inside with a few counter seats. It took a while for the line to order to move, but once it did my sandwich was ready fairly quickly. The bagel selection seemed a little limited, only nine or so different types.

Maggie B.

Yelp
I ordered the Plain Jane breakfast sandwich, which is egg and cheddar cheese on a bagel of your choice. I got a toasted whole wheat bagel and added avocado for an additional charge. The bagel was okay. A bit hard, not soft and doughy. It was decently filling, but certainly not the best.

Phil H.

Yelp
Had an everything bagel with cream cheese, untoasted. The bagel itself was cooked just right with the right amount of airation inside covered by a perfectly medium hard shell. I would say the chew ability was a slight bit tough. Cream cheese was plentiful and 'Philadelphia' brand smoothness and texture. Overall the bagel was wrapped with an inner plain wrapping covered by a Black Seed Bagel branded wrapper. Place was busy so the service suffered a little bit, plus the staff did a lot of talking amongst themselves that slowed down the process. Lastly, place was clean and bright but had limited seating inside. Plenty on Broadway. If I was in the neighborhood I would go back

Jan L.

Yelp
Cute storefront and friendly service. I stopped in for two bagels to go before heading to the airport. Somehow two bagels that cost $6.10 each came to over $20 and I gave a 20% tip on top of that. I was so looking forward to eating my lox and dill bagel after clearing security, and very bummed when I unwrapped it to discover they forgot the lox!!! A very unsatisfying experience.

Yelp
Growing up in LA, I couldn't understand the hype around bagels. Yeah, they're good, but amazing?! Life-changing? A must have? They never hit me like that... Until a magical being recommended @blackseedbagels Being in the mecca for bagels (NYC), I figured I should give this place a try and it did not. disappoint. While I don't have a standard for these glutenous lil delights, I know that these are GOOD! Their bagels are made fresh, they have so many options and their chai is equally as great. Today, I ordered the Fall special (whitefish salad with green tomatoes) and a chai latte (a MUST if you love chai). The salad was creamy, crunchy, and all the things you would want in a medley like this - think chicken, or tuna, salad with the fixings. The green tomatoes added a much needed extra crunch to the softness of the bagel and salad. I make sure to stop by this place every NY trip that I'm staying in the NOMAD area and I recommend you should as well. SAVE this post for your next visit to NY when you're craving some good bagels & coffee #blackseedbagels #nycfoodie #wheretoeat #infatuationnyc #nyceats #yelpnyc

Yelp
Black seed bagels is conveniently located right under the ace hotel where my husband and I stayed for a weekend. We were very much looking forward to the bagels to nourish us for a long day of walking around the city. The line on a Sunday morning went by quickly and was all worth it for the delicious bagels we had!! I chose the egg salad which was perfect and I got pastrami salmon on a pumpernickel bagel for my partner. We both devoured our sandwiches! I wish I asked to have the bagels toasted but they were still amazing. I would definitely go back. The bagels were filling and reasonably priced and not sloppy like other reviews state The staff was friendly and working so hard to get the line moving and keep up with orders. Definitely a must go spot!

Christine D.

Yelp
Coming from LA, most NY bagels are going to be better than 90% of what we have at home! Rating is for the pastrami reuben bagel which was very tasty, something about the sauerkraut and dressing (if you're a fan) takes the bagel up a notch. That being said, the egg/bacon bagel was pretty comparable to most bagels I've had. I think if you're in the area, try it out but not sure it's necessary to go out of your way for it.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Wanted to like but was disappointed.. Very mediocre bagel. There's a reason this bagel shop doesn't have a line like the others in the city. Would personally pass

Mikaela S.

Yelp
Came here around 1 on New Year's Day so this could be why but it was super busy and ended up waiting 30-45 mins for a plain bagel with plain cream cheese... And on top of that, it was only okay. Would've been happy with it if I waited for less time, but it was definitely not worth the wait. I wouldn't recommend it over other places I've been in the city. Also, the toaster ended up catching fire as we were leaving The person who took my order was friendly, though, and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Gregory L.

Yelp
Fantastic bagels and good coffee. I usually get the egg and cheddar bagel which is really good.

Alan N.

Yelp
Not sure why such low rating. The bagel was delicious. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Wait was reasonable. Quality bagel. Not sure why the 3 star from other reviews.

Lucia D.

Yelp
I didn't have a good experience. Very chaotic inside. I sent my husband to walk several blocks in the rain to get me a bagel with nova spread and he ended up bringing me scallions instead. I don't like scallions and the bagel wasn't great for a New York bagel and it was only cut partially and sloppy.

Anne R.

Yelp
These are the dense yeasty kind of bagel that is filling and chewy. You know it's a legit bagel shop when the toppings cover top and bottom - giving that full fledged seasoned flavor on both sides of the bagel, and Black Seed delivers. Service was friendly and fast during my visit just before closing hours. It's mostly a to-go shop, but there's a little room to linger over a counter if you need to stay in to chow down.

Natasha P.

Yelp
The best gluten free bagel options in NYC The sandwiches are terrific and the staff is really friendly at the Nomad location.

Eric And Tarah C.

Yelp
Stopped here as we were walking by. The orange juice was more expensive than the bagels at $7 seemed really High. Bagels were delicious and so was the cream cheese. Staff were also friendly.

Kathleen W.

Yelp
I had heard great things about Black Seed Bagels, so I made a point to pick one up before my train ride. I arrived at opening since my train was so early. I was warmly greeted and provided with suggestions since this was my first time there. I ended up going with an Everything bagel with cream cheese. I had it at the train station, and it was still warm and fresh when I got there. Their cream cheese is heaven. 100% recommend!

Kristina P.

Yelp
My advice is to skip Black Seed Bagels. There are so many good bagel spots in NYC and this one just isn't it. My everything bagel with cheese, bacon, and egg was burnt and there was nothing special about it. My hazelnut oat milk latte was the only positive from my visit.

Benjamin A.

Yelp
Best bagel sandwich ever. Pastrami egg and cheese!! Great coffee too. Online ordering was super convenient

Ali S.

Yelp
The. Best. Bagel. I had on my trip hands down! There's a ton of hype at other places, and I tried them all, but this blew them all away. Solid bagel, great spread, tons of options, and Topo Chico for sale. What else could you want?

Yelp
Best vegan scallion tofu cream cheese I've ever had in my entire life! Quick and friendly service. Delicious bagels toasted to perfection. I've been to two locations so far (Broadway and Chelsea Market) and both delivered the goods!

Carlie M.

Yelp
Was a little disappointed by my bagel I got here last week. I got a cinnamon raisin bagel with the seasonal strawberry basil cream cheese. It was not very flavorful. Maybe the bagel sandwiches are the way to go

Asher J.

Yelp
Seems like a hole in the wall but these bagels hit the spot!!! Absolutely love how they toast my bagel and the ratio of ingredients requested to bagel..: it is perfection. Addresses my bagel cravings

Ellen C.

Yelp
I got the salmon classic without tomatoes and wow it was PACKED with cream cheese. This isn't really something particular to Black Seed as most of the bagel shops in NY spread a brick of cream cheese on their bagels, but I ended up removing most of it (just personal preference). The bagel was yummy but it lacked the wow factor I was seeking in a NY bagel. The price was also around $17. Overall, it wasn't bad, I just think there are better options to grab a bagel in New York.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Ordered via Too Good To Go. Received a variety of bagels along with chives and plain cream cheese. Cream cheese was typical. Bagels were very soft and fluffy. Cinnamon raisin one was my favourite by far. So airy and fresh with a nice thinly crisp exterior! Great quality bagel. Had the perfect amount of raisins so the bagel wasn't too sweet or overpowered with bagels. Salt one had far too much salt in my opinion. If you prefer your food highly salty, maybe this is for you, but it was a lot with cream cheese on top too. Pumpernickel bagel had a strange aftertaste. This was my first time ever having a pumpernickel bagel so maybe that's what it's supposed to taste like, but it reminded me of when I bake and put too much baking powder into my creation. Overall, a decent deal for Too Good To Go and you get some quality bagels. Love to see that they're selling their extras on TGTG to ensure bagels are fresh for the following day!

Matt T.

Yelp
Unfortunately just an awful experience. I ordered ahead, and arrived 10 minutes before my designated pick up time. When I arrived, they were very busy and we sat to the side. I received a ping that my order was ready, and I walked up to confirm. The cashier, who was understandably busy, was rude and told me that the order wasn't ready yet. I waited another 10 minutes and then went back to the counter. This time, the cashier said "oh, I guess it never printed the ticket, we will start it now." I waited another 20 minutes, and at that time I was so frustrated that I walked back up and asked "what's the ETA" and the cashier laughs and says, "oh my god I'm sorry I never called your name! Here you go." When I arrived, half the order was missing - including 5 missing orange juices and two bagels. The food we actually received was decent, but the service was infuriating.

Tonni B.

Yelp
Ok - Since last time when I had the worst experience, I have not been back. And today was the day to give this another go. It was MUCH better than last time - no more of minuscule bagels. While it was bigger and quite tasty, it's still pretty small (compared to Ess-a-Bagel for example). All in all, for $13.50 I will not be coming back, but it was good to know that something has improved.

Tameishia P.

Yelp
Delicious bagels and amazing staff! I enjoyed the everything bagel with smoked salmon and scallions cream cheese and dirty chai tea latte! 5 stars!!

Wesley K.

Yelp
I got the pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese ($4.50). It was good toasted, but felt a bit overpriced. I don't think this would be my first choice, but I would come back more for convenience as this is located by 28th Street. Service was fair, but efficient.

Danielle Z.

Yelp
Super busy place, cute decorations, decent prices, and decent food. I think that this place gets a bad rep online, but in person it was one of the busiest shops for breakfast. Service is very good, menu is highly customizable, and we were able to get a good warm breakfast before starting our day. Opted for the plain bagel with jam and drip coffee with caramel syrup and oat milk. Both were good! Bagel had way too much jam so at one point it got pretty messy. Only 3 stars because it is very okay to good imo

Randi S.

Yelp
I think Black Seed rocks. I love the taste and texture of these bagels. I grew up on NY bagels but don't live here now, and while visiting I tried a few instagram spots that disappointed so I went back to my go to...Black Seed where they never let me down.

Robert C.

Yelp
One of our goals was to find an amazing bagel shop while in NYC for the weekend. Black Seed was our first stop and we ended up eating there three times over one weekend. It was so good! The place can get crazy busy, but the staff have quite an assembly line going and really do a great job keeping things moving. Bagels are fresh and super tasty and the "sandwich" selections are well thought out and very tasty. I will be craving their tuna melt bagel for weeks to come.

Damion T.

Yelp
Fast and delicious. Small place with little seating but they do deliver. BEC was really good.

Austin S.

Yelp
Montreal and New York bagels combined do not make a good combination. A long wait on top of that makes it a rather forgettable experience. Skip this spot and try ess-a-bagels

Elianna D.

Yelp
I love lox and bagels, so when I came across this place I looked at the shared photos, liked what I saw & decided to try it out. It's kinda pricey BUT it's definitely worth it since these bagels are thiccc. I also liked that all the staff working were properly wearing their masks! (:

Jennie A.

Yelp
The staff are friendly here, but the bagels are mediocre. Very bready, did not like the texture.

Mary P.

Yelp
In this day and age if people can spell my name I'm happy but if they can't, and they can't give me good food then well I'm gonna judge a lil bit harsher cuz man you could have done just a lil bit better. There are some black seed lovers in the city but I'm def not one of them based on this location. They're slow, the bagels are "Montreal style" so not even based on a classic NYC bagel hence flatter, and by the time you get that bagel near your trap it's a bit cardboard like. And there's nothing like that first bite into a chewy delicious NY bagel. This is not that, probably because it lacks that soft interior to begin with. To each their own. I tried to like it but I don't think I'm going to give them a third chance.

Kenny L.

Yelp
Taste good delivery good everthing mucho gooood Healthy good fresh good do good. And good

Tsvika K.

Yelp
At the end it's only a bagel .... So let's do not overblown here. Took the usual sesame light scallion cream cheese with salmon tomatoes and lettuce. Excellent! Dough is right & fresh . It's on the level of Murray/Tompkins sq and Ess though slightly smaller. Great ,quick morning service here .

Steve L.

Yelp
First time at this Black Seed location, and again, I'm drawn in by a monthly collaboration, this time for February's Luke's Lobster special: special seasoned bagel layered with tarragon lobster cream cheese and topped with Maine lobster knuckle and claw meat and celery salad. While the last collab special I had was a major disappointment, this one definitely restored some good will. Delicious. The only thing I would have changed is that there was some sort of bitter element in the celery salad (lemon rind?) But otherwise, ample lobster chunks (well, it is like $17, but still was pleasantly surprised), and that cream cheese does, in fact, deserve to make it to the permanent menu status. And short of being whole wheat, the special seasoning bagel was delightful. February is a good month.

Martin G.

Yelp
Overall, a good experience. Some creative seasonal sandwiches. A refill on my coffee would've been nice, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Lauren K.

Yelp
I've been here twice and gotten the Plain Jane (egg and cheese) on an everything bagel was flavorful but the overall ambiance made you want to leave. They are small shelves that can barely fit a cup of coffee, much less a bagel. The music is so quite loud and the atmosphere is just a grab and go feel. My sandwich was $6 and not worth the price because the bagel was so small. The main positive is that they serve Stumptown coffee which is always great and so I enjoyed my drip coffee ($3.5) on the way to work instead of what I had hoped to do, which is enjoy my coffee in the morning at the shop but I wanted to leave right away and don't know if I would want to come back. There are gluten free option and they now serve matcha latte if you're interested in that.

Lucinda D.

Yelp
Tourists: this is NOT where you should go for a NY bagel. They're terrible--more like bread than a chewy bagel. OTOH, the staff is super nice, they're relatively efficient, they do have the best GF bagels around, and a nice little outdoor seating area. I'm grateful to have them around the corner, I just wish the bagels were good.

Kenny C.

Yelp
We ordered some bagel sandwiches one morning as they were right next door to our hotel. Bagels were good. The sandwiches were outstanding. Staff was great too. Overall, great experience and will come back!

Joseph L.

Yelp
I've had black seed bagel from another location before and it was good so I ignored the bad Yelp reviews for this location. Big mistake. This bagel is making me so sad right now. It's dry and seems like it's old AF. I ordered it toasted (good rescue for wack bagels). They did not toast it. This really reminds me of the plastic wrapped bagels you get in wack delis or as part of a continental breakfast at a holiday inn in Pennsylvania. Man

Andrew K.

Yelp
Is it a pizza? Is it a bagel? Whichever one you mostly consider it, it's flat out delicious. Black Seed Bagels definitely hit a homerun here with their version of the pizza bagel that we grew up on. The pepperoni cups are my favorite aspect of the dish as they have just enough kick to carry the flavor of a usual slice of pizza. Order ahead especially in the morning so avoid long lines!

Kenny B.

Yelp
Great service and awesome bagel. Everyone was super nice and my good was ready very quickly. Best seed coverage in the league.
