Holy crap the legend is true. First time in Manhattan and we decided to go to Chelsea Marketplace based on a recommendation. Growing up in Indiana and loving most of my life in Florida I had heard about the fabled ‘New York Bagel’ and attributed it to urban legend and fancy marketing. Black Seed Bagel was all I needed to become a believer. There really is a difference. I can’t eat another soft, lifeless bagel no matter how good the lox is…..curse you bagel masters!! Seriously this is an amazing place for a bagel. I went to two others in the city but they were not nearly as good. Can’t say enough. Just go and you too will be blown away.

Found our way to Chelsea Market and we haven't had a NY bagel yet. We saw Black Seed and made it our first stop in the city. Who knew something so simple done so right tasted sooooooo good. Loved the bagels and love love loved the extra cream cheese.

hehe

Google
The best bagel 🥯 I have ever eaten! We walked passed this place and wanted to give it a try. Very fresh ingredients. I ordered tuna salad sandwich with everything bagel, highly recommended! The soda is nice and healthy. Friendly staff! We will definitely come back again!

Google
Went on Saturday at around 9am. Bagels looked decent, but my everything bagel was quite stale and the cream cheese had a dry chunky texture like it had been frozen. My daughter refused to take more than two bites of her cinnamon raisin bagel because "it doesn't taste like anything except the butter they put on."

Google
I love the staff. I order here every single day and they know me by face and name. Delicious everything bagel with swiss cheese, avocado, and bacon!!! Also very cheap lattes that are so good, only about $5 for a small caramel latte, way cheaper than most places in the city!

Briana Moore

Google
This experience was surreal, every bite of my bagel felt like I was getting closer to an out of body experience. The combination of the crunchiness and softness of the bagel was perfection, and the cream cheese was full of flavor. I would eat 100 of these bagels every single day for the rest of my life.

Google
Standard place for bagels! You have different options and they have a pretty good speed of service. Price/performance is good but flavor is not VAOV. In the everything bagel didn't even taste like garlic, and also black sesame was hard and toothy. There are places I've been to better... we'd say average :/

Anthea Cavallaro

Google
Excellent bagels. I got the cinnamon raisin bagel with almond butter. It was delicious and the perfect amount of food. Cold brew is good as well. Prices are not bad. There is seating indoors and outdoors which is really nice as well. Definitely would come back when in the area

Yelp
Fresh and delicious. Highly recommend if you want a New York Bagel in the Chelsie Market. Perfect to grab and go.

Julian Y.

Yelp
I came here for breakfast and really enjoyed their bagels. I've had other bagels in NY where the bagels are expensive and rock hard, but Black Seed Bagels was the perfect texture and perfect amount of cream cheese.

Lynn V.

Yelp
Bagels are great. I love their turkey and egg breakfast sandwhich on a salt bagel. They use quality and clean ingredients. Try their Fiery Ginger shots too!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Wow didn't expect Black Seed Bagels to have such a low average rating! My siblings and I came here on a rainy morning and I got the lox cream cheese bagel on a multigrain everything bagel and my brother got the ham, egg, and cheese everything bagel. Honestly we both enjoyed it, it was very filling, but it is definitely on the pricier side. The service was quite fast considering the long line up and they give you buzzers to help you know when your order has been prepared.

Alex P.

Yelp
Waiting 30 mins for a bagel is ok ? the spot is well underemployed, don't waste your time here.

Reyna M.

Yelp
Bagels were very good! We got the turkey and pastrami with egg and cheese on an everything bagel, The bagels were well seasoned. The service wasn't fantastic, but they were very busy. The bagels took about 25 minutes to be ready so it was a long wait. I would go back again when coming to Chelsea market.

Marie D.

Yelp
Very Mid Bagels Service is even worse. This is coming from someone who appreciates customer service but also understands human nature. I saw a lady who happened to be the barista accidentally knock over a child, didn't say sorry and still managed to yell at the kid for blocking the door. The kicker is that they smelled of alcohol. They I guess didn't clean the coffee machine the night before so they did it during service. Coffee was mid and so were the bagels. Go somewhere else for both

Jenny T.

Yelp
The everything bagel we ordered didn't have very much seasoning on it (lacking salt) Its texture was too chewy and pretty flavorless. The plain cream cheese was also flavorless.

Caroline B.

Yelp
Really liked black seed, especially the bagel itself which I'm usually picky about. I ordered a BEC with avocado on a sesame bagel. They use vital farm eggs which are the absolute best too!! I also ordered a lox with CC on an everything and there was way too much CC for my liking so it wasn't my favorite .

Jenny C.

Yelp
I was at Chelsea market the other day and decided to stop at black seed bagel for a quick breakfast. They are my friend's favorite bagel spot so I really wanted to try it for myself. We ordered the BEC (bacon egg and cheddar) and the turkey egg and cheese, both on everything bagels. The bagels were soft but maintained a nice chewy bite and not dense at all (which is a big determining factor for me). The eggs were well made and the respective proteins gave everything a lot of flavor. Overall, the bagels were great. Only downsize is that they are pretty pricey. Bagel sandwiches cost $8-$13. The servers were nice. I heard one singing in the back which is always nice to see. Seems like they enjoy their workspace.

Wali G.

Yelp
Friendly and fast service! I recommend trying the everything bagel with the scallion tofu cream cheese. Yum!

Becca T.

Yelp
Very slow but because they're busy. But it was great bagels and breakfast sandwiches!!

Julia K.

Yelp
Great Bagels for a quick lunch break if you are in the neighborhood. I really enjoy my Pastrami Reuben Bagel. The salmon classic had a bit too much cream cheese on it. Busy but didn't have to wait too long. Service is friendly and quick. Great spots for sitting outside on a sunny day!

Brittany S.

Yelp
Based on the reviews, my experience was a little more positive than others. I especially want to sing the praises of the ham sandwich filled with pickled green tomatoes, hot honey cream cheese, and Bibb lettuce. I opted to have mine made in a multigrain everything bagel and it was chef's kiss . A beautiful mix of spicy and sweet. Admittedly, with all of the filling action going on, the bagel itself took the backseat. The customer service was both friendly and swift during our visit.

Cammi P.

Yelp
Really good bagel shop in New York City. Very slow service but helpful and friendly staff. Great selection for building your own bagel. The lox and dill spread was amazing. They cannot scoop your bagel but overall a great spot. A little pricey but an excellent bagel.

David L.

Yelp
Solid bagel, though slightly smaller than a typical NY bagel. So decided to get the BEC which was fantastic. Great everything bagels and really nice bacon, not the little thin slices and with 2 eggs which is totally the way to go, but most places only do 1 egg. Great location in Chelsea Market.

Ruby C.

Yelp
* Pumpernickel Bagel w/ Truffle Cream Cheese I ordered pumpernickel bc the dark brown color paired perfectly with the generous truffle spread. The spread was creamy, fragrant and flavorful. $6.48 after tax. It is def on the pricey side - their bagel sizes are much smaller comparing to other shops, and probably the luxurious truffle spread charges higher. Not the best bagel in town, yet it is still worth a try if you love truffle as I do.

Yelp
The fast and furious breakfast ever !! Fresh ingredients everyday Thats why its always my first choice for breakfast when im near Chelsea area

Bea A.

Yelp
Soo good. Came for breakfast and got an everything bagel with plain cc and avocado. The bagels were soft and chewy, not difficult to eat. Lots of cc as well, bit messy but not complaining. Service was great, it was prepared quickly. Would come back.

Matt S.

Yelp
Very busy location - do yourself a favor and order ahead using the app or DoorDash. Good bagels and the BEC is a nice breakfast. Skip the coffee - it's not great. Protip: head outside and eat at one of the many picnic tables.

Jessie H.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast sandwiches. I got the bacon egg cheese sandwich on a toasted plain bagel and my bf got the ham egg cheese sandwich on a toasted plain bagel. We also got iced coffees. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious and freshly made. The toasted bagels were great. The only downside is that it is kinda pricey....around $10 for my bacon egg sandwich. The iced coffee was not good, would not recommend. There are a few spots to sit at but the table fill up pretty quickly. Staff is friendly! Place gets busy in the morning. Located inside Chelsea Market.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Bagel was terrible. The guy that took my order at the front had such a terrible attitude and I asked for my bagel extra toasted and he said they don't do it there? Weird, not sure why they wouldn't do that there but whatever. Bagel was hard and soggy. Will not be coming back and don't recommend. Maybe if the service was better I would think ab it.

Franklin Z.

Yelp
The bagels here were solid! We tried a reuben and a turkey, egg, and cheese bagel. They were both good and felt that there was a perfect ratio of filling and bagel bread. The bagel felt relatively thin but was all warmed up and nice. However, the wait to pick up the bagels took up around 15 minutes although there were not many other customers in front of us, a bit longer than we were expecting. Being someone who enjoys sauce, I think I would have appreciated a little tiny bit of mayo or an option to add a sauce packet in the breakfast bagel to moisten up the taste, but maybe that's just me. The bagels were good but not out of this world.

Celie H.

Yelp
Such a disappointment. Bagel was squashed and soggy, pastrami salmon wasn't good. Skip this place and head for Pop Up Bagels near Washington Square Park. Way better experience, better bagels, better schmear.

Mic W.

Yelp
The staff may be overworked and/or not like their job - who's to say? I feel for anyone who works in service. The pre populated text above appropriately encapsulates my sentiments. I imagine the staff feel put out and overworked. It's always busy so may be other have better experience than I. But the bagel I got was hard and stale. The spread was chintzy, and all of it expensive. L ho elsewhere and save everyone any further grief.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
I was craving a salmon lox bagel on the way to work, and luckily I beat the line. It got super crowded after I ordered. Definitely get it on the everything bagel, its classic. My bagel was a little on the salty side (not the lox but the bagel) so idk if thats normal or not. Its not bad but I wasn't expecting that.

Tom T.

Yelp
Great bagels, decent service. We bought a Too Good to Go Bag, and it was worth it! The variety of bagels was acceptable

Alexa C.

Yelp
Being that NYC is known for their bagels, I was delighted to find Black Seed Bagels for breakfast at Chelsea Market before exploring the Edge. I ordered the plain jane on my choice of bagel, along with a cold brew. I originally ordered an iced latte, but the cashier/barista warned that she was not skilled at making coffee drinks. I thought that it was odd to advertise drinks that weren't actually available for order, but it all worked out.

S P.

Yelp
These bagels are really subpar and the cream cheese is awful. I ordered delivery a they packed the ice cold drink on top of a toasted bagel that should have been delivered somewhat warm. Is it that hard to separate hot and cold so your customers have a decent experience?

Kristina A.

Yelp
Salmon classic - got this on an everything bagel and it was fantastic. Lots of cream cheese...wish there would've been a little more salmon! The egg bacon cheese bagel - got this on a plan. This was underwhelming at best. Even though they made it right in front of us, it wasn't super warm. I wouldn't order this again. Been here, done that. Onto the next bagel shop!

Lauren P.

Yelp
Had to get a bagel on my NY trip and this definitely did not disappoint. The service was super quick even though it was a Saturday morning and I lived my everything bagel with cream cheese! Would definitely come back when I'm back in town!

Rachel K.

Yelp
Don't even bother. All 6 employees are operating off a single brain cell. I don't even think the guy was coherent. Go to Bagels RX instead.

Laura M.

Yelp
Went for gluten free bagels. Bagels were great. Cashier was not. He was so rude I had to leave to not be angry the rest of the day.

Amanda T.

Yelp
Delicious bagels! Reminds me of Montreal. Definitely try it toasted, with vegetable cream cheese.

Ingrid B.

Yelp
Great bagels. Friendly staff and they offer a special. Yesterday's bagels at $4.95 for six is a great deal.

Janel S.

Yelp
Popped by the location sometime in the afternoon, definitely packed so keep that in mind. I'm from nyc and ADORE a good bagel. This place is worth the wait. I got a very fresh everything bagel sandwich and it was 'amazing'. Remember this place is in a mall kind of so don't expect much as far as ambience. I'd suggest grabbing a seat outside.

Dominic L.

Yelp
Great bagels, but more importantly, the Chelsea market location has the best staff and service! Thank you all.

Oren G.

Yelp
Very good bagel and probably the best one here in NY. I had the lox bagel with dill and cream cheese, which was superb. The counter service was good, and the vibe in Chelsea Market is always great. Water bottle is your bottle.

Alan S.

Yelp
Service is fast, friendly, and fun. Choose your order and then you get a wide choice of which bagel you'd like it on. The food is even better, I had the Hot Honey Cream Cheese which did not disappoint. Party of 3 were all full and still not feeling hungry 4 hours later. A great place for quick food, just be sure to catch a table quick, there's limited seating inside.

Alexis N.

Yelp
Overall I'm very happy with our visit to Black Seed Bagels. I ordered the Drip Coffee with caramel added. I'm not sure how much caramel was added, because it was not very sweet. I actually had to add in some sugar for sweetness. I ordered Everything Bagel Boca, which was fried egg, avocado, tomato, and cheese. It originally comes with two fried eggs, but I felt that was a lot so I asked for one, which was fine! I do wish they had egg everything bagels as that was my one nyc wish, but the everything was good. There was a long line, which I think was a testament to how good their bagel sandwiches are. They did say the hot sandwiches would be about a 10 minute wait, which was not bad. The line went quick, the ordering quick, and the wait was quick. Overall they are speedy and understood that people were hungry! It wasn't too loud of an area and we were able to grab a table, which helped our experience too.

Brooke C.

Yelp
The bagels are great! A little pricey but it is a great location, fast service, and a cute place! Highly r

Bob W.

Yelp
Don't offer a bakers dozen and then claim a bakers dozen is 12. Seriously, that's really a bad look.

Candi M.

Yelp
We visited the Black Seed location tucked in Chelsea Market. The entire area was bustling with a busy lunch crowd. The staff was efficient and timely with our order. I had the Hot Honey Ham on pumpernickel and loved the hot honey, cream cheese, and piled high country ham. The perfect touch we're the green tomatoes providing a tart contrast to the honey. The bagel was also the perfect texture and flavor. My husband had the BLT on whole grain and he loved the crispy bacon and crunchy lettuce.

Richard B.

Yelp
Really craving bagel. They advertise being open at 8:00. When I arrived at 8:00 I was rudely informed by the girl behind the counter that they would not be open for at least 15 minutes to half hour at least. First of all be polite and Don't advertise an 8:00 opening time if that's not the case. Food looks like it would be good but I left and went elsewhere. Couldn't wait. Had to go on to work.

Samantha C.

Yelp
I would give 3.5 if we could do 1/2 stars. Staff was nice and wait was not too long to get food/drinks. Overall, there wasn't anything wrong with the food, but I've had better lattes and bagels elsewhere and would probably not return.

Jessica G.

Yelp
The menu was very easy to read and the service was great! My husband and I split the BEC (Bacon, Egg and Cheese) for a smaller portion but it was very filling. The seating area is small so if you are looking to sit and eat, you might have to wait for a little bit. This is a grab and go type of place.

Stanley S.

Yelp
We were in Chelsea market and not sure if we would make it to Tompkins Square Bagels or Best bagels so we heard Black Seed was good; not. We only wanted three bagels, not a sandwich, and got a look like we were crazy. The bagels were not good. They tasted like grocery store made bagels, soft inside and out as well as too heavily seeded with little flavor. We gathered our resolve, though tired, and headed to Union Square for the Tompkins Sq bagels location. We had bought three bagels, ate half of two and threw away the third.

Beau C.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday, close to 1pm - the line was long. Y'all were busy busy. Cashier was friendly. Turkey, egg and cheese was pretty good. I think I like a bigger bagel, but egg was fried well (still had that nice yolk ooze -I know, word choice) and cheese was nicely melted. Latte wasn't overly milk which I appreciate. Cannot stress that enough. Bagel prices are a little high for my tastes but I feel like this seems to be the norm in NYC. I'd come again to try their salmon classic.
