Part cafe, part specialty grocery, Black Sheep Market is a baaadass new addition to the neighborhood!
Black Sheep Market is an outpost of Black Sheep Bagel Cafe in Harvard Square. (I'm told they do carry some of their signature bagels, but the person working at the counter explained you have to arrive before around 10:00 to snag one on the weekends.) Whether you intend to or not, you'll probably leave here with at least one bakery item-- it's hard to walk around big case filled with pastries and Union Square donuts (Saturdays/Sundays only!) without giving into temptation! I ended up with an apple danish and a drip coffee. The coffee was great, and they'll have a full espresso bar when they ramp up to Phase 2. Phase 2 will also bring bagel sandwiches.
The market carries a stellar selection of specialty items (similar style to Formaggio or Savenor's). The shelves were full of fresh fruit, cheese, snackies like nuts and dried fruits, and fresh loaves from Nashoba Brook Bakery This would be a perfect spot to stop for picnic supplies as you head down towards the river!
