Coming from San Diego, this place was a breath of fresh air. They brew their own IPA's and utilized leftovers from the brewing process to make the dough for their pizza. The atmosphere was excellent, and the staff was outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Shout out to @Catbird for the referral. If I'm ever back in Denver, I'll be sure to stop by and support this local business.

Google
One of my favorite pizza places in Denver. Fresh. Tasty. A great place to sit and be together after a busy day of touring. I don’t drink but my companions usually enjoy the beer. The garlic knots were great.

Chris S

Google
Awesome neighborhood brewery with fantastic beer. Wish we had come hungry because the pizza looks and smells *incredible* as well! The patios (one out front, as well as a beer garden out back) are dog friendly and shaded, really peaceful spots to drink beer with your leashed pup. Bartenders were really cool and attentive - seems to be a fun place to work which is always a good sign of a great business. If you like hazy IPAs you gotta try the Space Jockey. Also had the Negative Creep, and although west-coast IPAs aren’t normally my jam, this was legitimately the best west-coast IPA I think I’ve ever had. Check this spot out on your trip to Denver!

Google
The beer was good. A bit more expensive for beer than I care to pay, but it was a good albeit expensive beer. The pizza on the other hand wasn’t anything special. The plain cheese was 4.50/slice and was mediocre. The staff was friendly, but at times was forgotten.

Google
Delicious pizza and a killer beer selection! We hung out on the back porch. Definitely a great place to pop in when in Rino. Cheers!

Google
I'm a fan gurl for this place ... Did a flight ✈️🛫 loved the lavender 🪻 pistachio and the sour straw berry 🍓 pineapple 🍍 usually strawberry and pineapple are sweet flavors interesting to have them sour... The negative creep won awards I can taste why ...did a four 🐎 hores man pizza 🍕 loved it too ::::scan ::::: bttm photo for menu

Google
Making our way through Denver on the way to the mountains we found this slightly out of the way jewel. It’s in an interesting area of Denver that we weren’t familiar with and parking is a bit of a challenge. We stopped in for a late lunch and didn’t initially know what menu items they offered. It was pizza and frankly, I would have never thought it looked like much of a pizza joint to go along with their beer offerings. I was wrong as both the pizza and beer were excellent. I enjoyed both a sour and blonde ale to compliment our Hotel California (Margherita) pizza. We enjoyed our visit and would certainly return.

Google
Jimmy and his team hosted our private party on the back patio and it was perfect in every way. Leading up to the event Jimmy told me several times not to worry, everything we needed would be taken care of. He wasn't exaggerating! These folks are professionals, they know what they are doing, and you can just leave it to them to show you a good time, with great food and drinks. Their beer, cocktail, non-alcoholic drink menu was just the right size, with something for everyone. And the food was top notch. Thanks BSB team!

Yelp
Stopped here after Cohesion beer. We walked to nearly every brewery within a 2 mile radius and black shirt did not disappoint. We settled on a flight so we could try the 4 main beers that peaked our interest. Our waitress was so sweet! She recommended a lot and told us about the beers. The pizza that everyone was eating around us looked and smelled amazing. The inside is very industrial but it was warm and very laid back. All the beers were great! They had a small merchandise wall next to the bar as well. Worth checking out if you're in the area and want some good beer and pizza!

Merica A.

Yelp
We ordered the small War Pig pizza & when they say small, they mean it. It's 10 inches (6 small slices) for $24 before tax, so it's enough to share if you order an app OR enough for one with a leftover slice so be mindful of that. I will say the pizza was SO GOOD! They didn't skimp on the toppings & the glaze was a nice touch to give it that oomph! The server was manning the whole place which was a bit slower, but made sure to check on us a couple times. She was very friendly & didn't hover which I appreciate. The vibes are immaculate here. It's moody, laid back, self-seating, good music, & they have entertainment! We colored for a bit before the food came out, but they've got board games or cards too. There's also a cute beer garden tucked in the back if you wanna try your hand at cornhole or jenga! We stopped by randomly for lunch & overall enjoyed it. Next time we will definitely order a large or maybe some wings to get good & full. But lovely spot for sure!

Mai L.

Yelp
I was craving wings & pizza and some of the pizza places we like do have wings. My fiancé found this place and ordered wings (half Cajun dry rub & half Buffalo) and a large cheese. He didn't see the options to make half or order smaller pizzas so we can try other toppings so we will for sure next time. We took it to go so not sure what the vibes are inside. The wings are good!! Nice and juicy inside. The dry rub and a good kick to them and the buffalo was drenched in it so very tasty. The pizza was pretty decent. It's a thin crust. I liked the taste of the sauce and the cheese. I only wish it was cooked a bit more but we can definitely ask for it well done next time.

Michael D.

Yelp
Beer was ok. Pizza was ok but wildly different from the first to the second. Like we had bought two pizzas from two restaurants kind of different. First crust was thin and had a little crisp. Second was thick and doughy. Seemed like totally different cheese qualities between the two. Very weird. As far as ambiance, meh, whatever. Overall I'd have no reason to stop back. Better pizzas and better beers all over.

Trish A.

Yelp
We sat out front. Great place to people watch. I had a beer flight. My favorite was the porter. We had some wings and a pizza. We will definitely be returning.

Janet D.

Yelp
We are a beer state Love the uniqueness that each brewery brings. They carriy 12 different beers that they brew in-house. They serve cocktails, wines, seltzer, hard seltzer, spirits and sour beer that I wanna go back for. That's not unique. It makes them a spot to go.! What's unique is their delicious pizza crust is made from their spent grains and the taste is distinct. There's a bit of sweetness to it. Love it! I also learned that Jimmy and Karen the husband and wife owners love what they do. This is not just business as usual to them. One of them is always at the location. BSB opened in 2012 and they took over in Dec. of 2021. Certain nights there's a live music. They've received numerous accolades for their beer making skills. I wanted to try their in-house brewed beer and the way to go is their Beer Flights. Pick four and start there! You won't see a Food Truck parked in the vicinity. They cook everything in their kitchen.

Yelp
Black Shirt is a must! Super friendly and helpful bar staff that makes sure your beer is amazing and your pizza is done just right!! I got two 5oz Paint It Black and three slices of pizza (one daily special margherita, and two custom pepperoni and tomato). Perfect. Love the chill atmosphere and the microbrew equipment in the back! Very cool memorabilia and motif as well! Definitely the perfect pizza and brewery experience for a chill night solo or with friends.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Ok I know I'm supposed to be reviewing the beer and I'll get to that but the first thing that caught my eye when I walked onto BSB were the board games! I love this idea! My hubby and I played 2 rounds of Yahtzee while enjoying our drinks. And speaking of drinks, BSB has a good selection of beer plus cocktails and wine. While we didn't get pizza, it sure smelled good! Staff were prompt and friendly. Good music too!

Zach P.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience at BSB. I could see myself here a lot if I lived a bit closer. The inside is decent size with lots of tables to sit at and a big outside beer garden with a stage. Really loved the decor on the inside, lots of cool artwork and paintings. I had the IPA and Mexican Lager. Both solid beers that tasted great! We had the TNT pizza- I never thought of cream cheese or green chili on a pizza, but I'm glad they did. It was a monthly special so I hope they add it to the menu. Clean spot, great friendly service, see you guys again soon!!

Rob R.

Yelp
Not the most unique name, but such a great little spot. The owners really take pride in maintaining the appearance. They were planting a bunch of flowers in the courtyard while we were there. Generously offered samples until we found what we liked. A very diverse menu & the pizza's looked and smelled great - will try one next time!

Yelp
I visited Black Shirt Brewing for the first time two years ago and have hung out here many times since! Definitely a reliable go-to for beer and pizza, located just down the street from my gym. I take friends here all the time. Sometimes parking can be a challenge, especially when there's the weekly or monthly biker meetup that happens! Pizza generally isn't my favorite food, but they have a fantastic variety of pies on the menu, even for those who have dietary restrictions. Love their beer more and more each time I visit. Whenever there's something with orange or strawberry creamsicle, I'll immediately order that and often take some to-go. Service is great, and I can't wait to come back again.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Five star beer, four-ish star food, cool vibes. I got the strawberry vanilla IPA and it was quite tasty, especially for not having lactose in it. Was also hungry so got the Panama slice with honey, sausage, onions, corn and ricotta. I really liked the taste of the toppings but didn't love the crust itself. A friend got the garlic knots and while it didn't visibly look burnt, it had a very charred aftertaste. The space was cool, and I like how they did table service since not super common at a brewery. Will be back!

Kelly K.

Yelp
I visited BSB with a buddy on a busy Friday night. It was packed inside but we got the last two open seats at the window and moved over to a table once some people left and they cleaned it for us right away. The waitress informed us the wait for food would be an hour but we said we'd stick it out. We started with beers and then ordered food. I got a tasty sour beer on tap which came out fairly quickly. Ordered a mediterranean salad and a war pig pizza to split, and this time around she warned an hour to an hour and a half wait. We felt committed at that point so we gambled, and to our surprise, the food showed up at our table in about 20-25 minutes. The salad was a good portion and fresh (greens, spinach, olives, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, greek vinaigrette), but the war pig pizza was the highlight. A bit greasy for my liking (and I mean GREASY) but a good meat to cheese to sauce ratio. The kicker was the sweet chipotle maple glaze which balanced out the salty and slightly spicy meats (pepperoni, prosciutto, bacon). Would definitely order that pie again. Parking is tough to come by in this area during dinner hours, but we didn't have to park too far away. Prices are a little steep but at least the quality justifies it. Aside from some slightly odd service and bad time estimates, we consumed tasty food and beverage for a positive stay.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Quaint, small brewery that specializes in very good pizza and brew. Very limited seating when it's cold (looks like they open the big door when it's warm out). The service was okay, but it was trivia night, so maybe a little extra busy?

Kelsey S.

Yelp
Cool brewery in the heart of Denver. Ordered a blueberry hazy IPA and the strawberry pineapple sour. Both were delicious and the Brussel sprouts were great too. Didn't try the pizza but it looked awesome. They have a cool beer garden out back too.

Angela Y.

Yelp
I've only been to this one brewery in Denver, so I'm not sure how it compares to others in the area, but I thought it was a solid spot with good beer! The inside area is spacious and you can see the brewing containers in the back. They have trivia on Thursday nights and the questions seemed fun and not too hard. They also have a few board games you can play for free so I imagine it would be great to come here with friends. I ordered the Buffalo chicken wings, and a 5oz of the kiwi and a 5 oz of the sour. The chicken wings and legs legs were filling for 6 pieces, and the flavor was good but the meat itself was over cooked. Both the beers were delicious and I would definitely order again. The total came out to be around $20 with tax and tip, which is quite affordable!

Natalie F.

Yelp
Stayed across the street from here and visited daily! Their garlic knots were so good and we really enjoyed their Buffalo wings as well. We tried two different pizzas, The Motley Crew and Adios Aloha. The Motley crew had HOUSE RED SAUCE, HOUSE CHEESE BLEND, PEPPERONI, BSB SAUSAGE, MUSHROOM, BLACK OLIVES, GREEN PEPPER, RED ONION. The Adios Aloha consisted of HOUSE RED SAUCE, HOUSE CHEESE BLEND, PEPPERONI, FRESH JALAPEÑO, PINEAPPLE, CREAM CHEESE. Dare I said best pizza I've ever had! They also had such great beer that we even took a 4 pack to go. We really enjoyed that they were pet friendly and had a great patio in the back. This will definitely be our go-to next time we are back in Denver.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Solid selection of beers, delightful selection of pizzas but not many vegetarian. That being said, they were delicious. We devoured our pizzas; two 16" ones fed our group of 5 just fine. Also if you're vegetarian or vegan -- I would check the menu beforehand to confirm; I vaguely remember salads being available and would hate for you to miss out on a really delightful spot. All the beers were tasty. Our group picked heavier beers - 15% nitro, all the IPAs - and really enjoyed them. We'll have to come back for the lighter ones. Lastly we appreciated the service. We showed up on a quieter day with a puppy and they truly made an effort to check in on us every so often. It was much appreciated when they could've stayed inside and waited for us to approach them.

Eddie C.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday night. The taproom wasn't too full. I ordered a flight of four beers. The presentation of the flight was nice. I enjoyed all the beers. Solid beers from this brewery.

AM K.

Yelp
Awesome beers (get the walnut street lager) and calzones. Great service. Worth the visit if in RiNo.

Robert D.

Yelp
Fresh under one week since moving to Denver and landing in the RiNo neighborhood. I pulled BSB up via maps and decided to take my family to our first meal in Denver. The pizza was fantastic, the interior vibe was stellar, and the beers I had were great. BSB has a rotating list of events and community nods, which is nice. I'm happy to have such a solid spot within walking distance with excellent food and passionate owners who care. RIP to my waistline.

Zach D.

Yelp
Had an amazing evening with colleagues and venue for 60ish people in tow! The owner did an incredible job from setting up to execution and our guests had a great time. Food and drinks were awesome and highly recommend for people looking for venue for drinks and food for midsized group!

Kevin M.

Yelp
Very nice place love the ambience great beer, good food kid friendly would definitely recommend service was great!

Jenny L.

Yelp
My hubby and I hung out here on vacation. The servers were friendly and service was great. Food was just bar food but it was good. We came back for a St Patrick's day beer the next day!

Leslie S.

Yelp
HOLY PIZZA. I've had a lot of pizza in my day, but this pizza was OUT OF THIS WORLD. If you like New York style thin crust deliciousness, then you'll love this. Every part of this pizza was perfection; the flavors of the sauce, the cheese, the crust, how perfectly it was cooked, omg. We just had the plain cheese pizza. Everything is cooked from scratch, down to the blended cheese. I'm actually concerned I will feel hollow inside when I go back home out of state. Highly recommend.

Annie S.

Yelp
Atmosphere 5/5 Pizza & garlic knots 5/5 Sour beers 5/5 Service 5/5 Laidback spot with great food and beers and card games!

SAnne H.

Yelp
Amazing. Beer. Pizza. Cauliflower. Music. Beer Garden. Chill beer tenders. Highly satisfying and delicious. Very much recommend! Cheers

Souzana V.

Yelp
My date and I came here to get some dinner before our Scorpions' concert. The place is cute. We ordered 2 10" pizzas ( Al green and Pompei) and 6 pieces of the honey mustard wings. The wait wasn't long. Our pizzas came out first then the wings. Both of the pizzas are super delicious!!!! I can come eat pizza every day here. The wings are also very delicious too. It was still crispy after in sauce. Excellent service too. Awesome place and definitely look forward to coming back. It was an excellent choice for dinner. So glad we came here.

Victoria R.

Yelp
Came for dinner and drinks before a concert at mission ballroom. Ordered a pizza and wings, plus beer and wine. The cajun dry rub wings were probably the best I've ever had. The pizza was good (forgot the name) but the slightly sweet sauce threw us off. Still amazing. Oh and we accidentally forgot our leftovers on the bar, and the bartender saved it for us when I ran back. Never leave the pizza behind! Cozy place, packed house.

Megan M.

Yelp
Pizza is my favorite thing in the world and to be honest this pizza is alright. Definitely good for Denver, but I'm from the north east so it's hard. The sauce is the biggest miss for me. Better quality sauce and more of it would definitely bump it up. I was leaning in between a 3 or 4 but I rounded up since I did get take out. I would like to go in person and try this place again!

Tony T.

Yelp
Solid beer selection! This guy knows what he's doing. Depth of flavor, balanced across the board. I was a fan of the guava blonde - reminds of me of a version Golden Road in LA does. The Mexican lager, hefe and Pilsner were also solid choices, each had a different fruit forward taste, but nothing overpowering. Wings were also very good, oven baked, meaty and crispy. Buffalo was good, Cajun dry was better...I thought they were well done...the ranch was a little bland, a bit more flavor there and these would have been all time. Pizza was also very, very good! Best crust I can remember ever having! Sauce missed a little for me, I'm picky on tomato sauce. I bet a white sauce would be amazing! Maybe next time. Service was ok. Good music, but it's rocking loud - so be ready. All in a very a solid experience! I'd like to see these beers on the west coast!

Justin W.

Yelp
The manager is great. I thought he was just a waiter or bartender but his attention to detail lead me to ask a few questions. Let's just say this place is great because of its leadership. Thanks for an awesome visit!

Amber P.

Yelp
The food was amazing, I'll crave it once back in Nashville. I highly recommend the pull apart cheese garlic knots and four horsemen pizza. The drinks were amazing, a great selection of beers and cocktails. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. The bar itself is very relaxed and chill. They have board games to play, fun music playing, but still quiet enough to have a conversation. I hope to come back someday.

Mark L.

Yelp
Very pleasant micro brewery in RiNo. Beer selection and taste were both excellent. Wait staff were kind & helpful answering questions about our options. Several decent-size (but not over-whelming) TVs with sport games on ... without sound, which was helpful for conversation and atmosphere. Only real problem was parking. RiNo is notoriously bad for parking, but legal spaces within 2 blocks of BSB were so few, it took over 20 min of circling to even find one. Train access via Blake St is a much better option.

Matt K.

Yelp
Pretty darn good. They were busy and our server seemed to have her Witt's about her. We got our drinks and food orders taken very regularly and efficiently. I got a New Zealand pils which was really good. The guava sour was my favorite of the two though. Really good sour. Got a cheese pizza and it was solid. Highly recommend before a show at the Mission Ballroom!

John D.

Yelp
Wow - stopped in for a "special slice of the day" and a beer at about 12:15pm. I was hoping to get in and out in a hurry. Ordered the slice, and got the beer pretty good pour of their "Rapture Vol 2" blonde ale. Waited over 45 minutes - WTH? for their daily special slice? - and then asked how much longer for the slice? Server went to the kitchen and said "really busy - they're working on it". She was nice, but the story was BS. It was Not that busy, and people who ordered whole pizzas at same time of my order was placed had been served and finished their meal. Very obvious they missed or forgot my order, I just wish they could have been honest about the mistake. Then a follow up that " there was this big table, blah, blah blah. Again, it's the bullshit story they kept feeding me that's really irritating. Food finally delivered - pretty good. To top it off, I finished my slice and servers all disappeared. Had to wait another 5us minutes to flag someone down to pay my bill. Service was very frustrating and I won't be back anytime soon. Also - lots of flies in the restaurant

Paige P.

Yelp
Great pizza! The walnut St. Beer is delicious. I visited this spot 3 nights in a row while staying across the street. I wish I could say the service was great, but despite giving them 3 chances and having the same bartender tend to me in the same spot each night, there was a real "I don't give a crap" attitude going on there.

Kelsey S.

Yelp
This place had the best beer and best pizza & garlic knots. My favorite was the kiwi sour. 10/10 would recommend!

Jenelle E.

Yelp
This place is great, very casual dining. They do have TVs around the restaurant. Beer was good, and pizza was good. The only issue I had was that the pizza took over 45 minutes to come out and it wasn't a very busy night. I don't think the pizza was worth that wait. Also, we sat at a table right underneath the supply duct and there was a vent pointed right at our table so I was freezing.

Jenna L.

Yelp
Black Shirt Brewing is awesome y'all! I came here for a visit before a show at the Mission Ballroom and had no idea the type of restaurant I was walking into. It was my first time visiting and it seemed super chill. Right when you walk in the atmosphere is very casual and welcoming. I sat at the bar and just couldn't help but look around at all the different art and meaning that existed at this place. Im someone that likes to know more about restaurants that I've never been to and so I started chatting with the bartender and she was awesome! Little did I know Johnny Cash was an icon at this place and he's literally one of my favorites. I had asked about why the restaurant was called Black Shirt Brewing and what all the art meant and this is a restaurant that strongly believes in the uniqueness of the individual and how those that wear all black are non-conformists to society just like Johnny Cash was. It was truly amazing what I had walked into. I love a place with good history! Anyways, I ordered myself a 10" customized pizza and man it was off the charts. I did a red sauce with prosciutto, jalapeños, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and artichoke hearts. This pizza was phenomenal. The crust was perfectly cooked and all of the toppings where fresh. I ordered a Lavender Kombucha with a splash of vodka and that was just as good! I really loved everything about this experience. The service was quick and the bartender offered many great recommendations. Definitely check this place out! I'll be coming back when I'm in town again.

Chelsea P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped here for beer and pizza one afternoon and we were impressed! The sour I had was pretty good but the stout my boyfriend got was delicious! We ordered a War Pig and I am so glad we got the larger size because the two of us almost ate the whole thing in one sitting. He is normally a plane jane pepperoni fan and I like lots of toppings and this pizza was a perfect harmony of both... Sweet and savory and the crust has a little bite to it that is just delightful. We will be back!

Carissa C.

Yelp
Solid beer and pizza spot! My friend and I split a Four Horsemen Pizza and we each ordered a beer. I ordered a Delicate Sledge and my friend ordered a Colorized. We loved all the meat on the pizza! It's a good thing I stuck to the server's recommendation on ordering the smaller 5 oz pour because it was strong but had an incredibly deep flavor. The Colorized was also good and very refreshing. PS. Indoor dining is allowed at this time.

Michele L.

Yelp
We were just here and had awful customer service. The server forgot my order and didn't even offer to make it up in any way. At the end, I was only given an option of giving a 20% tip so the manager had to sign in so I could give a custom tip. I've never felt so mistreated at any dining experience in my life.

Valerie G.

Yelp
Holy crap. Get the oven baked cauliflower. We got it with the Buffalo sauce and home made ranch. AMAZING! Also got the Motley Crue pizza which was also very good. Crispy crust, not super thick but also a solid amount of toppings so it was filling. I didn't try any beers because majority emphasized how hoppy they were, which I am not a fan of. So wish they would have had a beer or two that was more mild. Would absolutely come back for the food alone though. Also good fricken vibes with the music! Neck deep came on a few times while we were there

Ellyn H.

Yelp
The Buffalo cauliflower was to die for!! The pizza was also awesome. It was quick, perfectly cooked, and the red ale was really good. The service was friendly, and overall we would definitely come back when we're in town. Thank you!

Erin D.

Yelp
Booooiiiii all I'm saying, blackberry hard seltzer. It is the tits. Disco ball really reels in all the vibes

Crystal K.

Yelp
Went to Black Shirt tonight for the first time to grab drinks with a co-worker and friend, will definitely be back! We tried a few different beers and had their aloha pizza (pineapple on pizza is a yes, from me!) hung out in the beer garden for a few hours. I road my bike down and bike didn't fit on the bike rack in front, super cool about taking it into the back (outdoor) beer garden. Brought my lil dog bud with me, and absolutely dog friendly. The staff here were all super laid back, friendly, and attentive. One of the things I look for in a bar/brewery is what kind of vibe are the staff bringing. I loved the staff here. Overall, good food, good beer, good vibes, good for a bike, good for a dog. All the checks. I'll be back!!!

Zak S.

Yelp
Went in and asked for Pilsner and it was very fruit flavored forward with a sour finish. The pizza lacked flavor. Taste like it was out fir hours and had 3 little spots of cheese The slices are small for the price. Maybe I hit a bad day or time to check this place out but left me no reason to return.

Keegan H.

Yelp
The pizza here is incredible! I lived in nyc for 6 years and came to Denver and it was a huge struggle to find good pizza. This place gets as close as you can get to NY pizza, highly recommend!

Samantha G.

Yelp
You cannot really go wrong with Pizza and Beer but BSB does it RIGHT! I love the wood fired pizzas and the ingredients are quality. I enjoy the sours they normally have on the draft menu. The staff is always kind and helpful, the place is always clean, and the patio is great!
