It is so beautiful on the inside. I got the caramel frappe, bacon and cinnamon roll toast. the toast was a little too sweet for me but the food was still amazing. the wait staff were so sweet. you have the option between scanning a qr code or ordering up front and your food is delivered to you. 10/10, beautiful place!

Lovely atmosphere. I personally don't like counter ordering. I wish there was an option to order tableside. The cashier wasn't very knowledgeable: since we had to order at the cash register, but wanted the dessert later it took some haggling to get him to concede (I have eaten here before a long time ago and you could pay for your dessert but get it later). The manager was great; he helped me pick a wine that went well with the pot roast which was AMAZING but NOT HOT. There was a bit of a wait but it was early afternoon on a Sunday. So when our food came out room temperature we were surprised. I had mine heated up. My green beans were cold. And they brought a new one which didn't arrive until I had finished eating. My husband had the salmon and had it remade because it was cool. Overall the taste was fantastic. However, when we went back to order a Latte to go with the dessert we ordered at the beginning you would think they would have at least offered it complementary for all the trouble. Nevertheless, it wasn't expensive and was delicious with my hummingbird cake!

First Time Trying This Place And I Had Brunch Which Ends At 4pm. Ordered A Little Bit Of Everything To Get A Good Taste Of Variety And I Must Say I Loved Everything. We Had The Spinach Dip For The Appetizer. We Ordered Both Cinnamon French Toast And Regular French Toast. I Loved The Cinnamon One Waaaaay More. We Got Eggs , I Think They Come Unseasoned Bc Ours Needed Salt And Pepper Badly. It Was Good After I Added That. The Bacon Was Great And We Also Got An Order Of The Chicken And Waffles. The Chicken Needed Some Typa Seasoning But It Was Still Pretty Good. Overall I’m Rating The Food A 8/10 For The Brunch Menu Specifically I Haven’t Had Anything Else. The Atmosphere Is The Main Reason Why I Gave A 5 Star Rating Because It Was Very Cool And Cozy. I Like How You Just Order At The Front And Then Get Your Food And Refills. Def Would Come Back Again.

We visited this location for breakfast this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. I was having some issue with a BW gift card I had been provided and Carlos and Nabil (the manager) went above and beyond to assist me and make sure I was well taken care of and happy customer. I truly appreciate their gesture. We ordered my usual fav Nashville hot chicken and chicken and waffles. Also got the mocha frappe and black coffee. Food as always was delicious and came out pretty quickly. Black walnut also offers rewards program through their app. You can accumulate points to trade it for different items. I was able to redeem some points for a coffee.

Google
The food was good when it came out, but it wasn’t hot. The coffee also wasn’t hot. However, I really think it’s because we came at a weird time of day. I would go again because the food was tasty and the portion size was large for the price.

Google
It’s perfectly located along Memorial Dr nestled in Rice Military Village. The breakfast is great. My kids loved the Gelato. Their healthy omelette is great. Avocado toast was good. I’ve also had their shrimp taco and chicken strips are perfect. My only complaint is their draft beer is usually warm, flat, or skunky probably bc their lines are too far, and their canned/bottled selection is minimal. Other than that you’ll really enjoy their food. It’s a perfect place for a date, business meeting, brunch with friends, or just to grab a cocktail.

Sara Dacon

Google
Food is reasonably priced for the quality, and the coffee is delicious. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and I really enjoyed it. The service is what takes this place above and beyond. All the team members are friendly and attentive, and my server, Shelby, was simply delightful. I’m excited this location has reopened so that I can return regularly.

Google
I ordered an Avocado Benedict online and the avocados that came in my food are disgusting. If this is how my food is served…can’t imagine how the kitchen looks. Whoever is responsible for the kitchen, they need to have better quality control of the food being served. I was truly disappointed and disgusted by the quality of the food.

Yelp
Amber O. was a blessing. They accommodate our big party and smiled the entire time. I will be back to visit with friends or by myself.

Yelp
Parking was secured with ease during brunch hours. Very open concept with various seating options inside and exterior. Excellent customer service from the time we walked in til the time we departed. Everyone was so inviting and seemed very passionate about the customer experience. Billy and Sebastian were two individuals that stood out going above and beyond. The food was delicious and fresh, also. Ordered the healthy omelette with fruit and potatoes. It was so good I didn't get to capture it on camera. You could tell that the team here is valued by management and they have a wonderful team morale by the way they treat guests who dine here. Everyone was very knowledgeable and honest about the menu. Looking forward to visiting this location again and highly recommend it. They have food and desserts for all dietary restrictions and allergies

Yelp
I live in the 77007 zip code and decided to have lunch today with a friend who had never been. I had eaten here before and suggested this place because hey, why not. Anyway I ordered the Turkey burger minus the tomatoes( I have an allergy), mayo( sub mustard), avocado(sub pickles), jalapeños and spinach on a wheat bun. Well as you see the presentation was not very good, especially to have gone through three people prior to THIS being presented to me. Or maybe this is the New Black Walnut Café standard for 2025‍. Either way, Katherine was cool and apologized for what the KITCHEN though was ACCEPTABLE to serve to the me. I assured her that THIS was not on her and that I would make sure that my review would highlight that SHE was great and THIS negative experience was NOT on her. She was wonderful and had a great attitude!! Good job Katherine ! Black Walnut Café do better

Yelp
This is a quick serve place with top quality food. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. They have a self serve coffee and ice tea station. It is very large inside with multiple dining areas. They also have a large center bar and outdoor patio. We had the Florentine omelet with toast. It's served with jam that taste homemade and a salsa. Overall, a great place for breakfast.

Yelp
Wow, this location isn't as nice as the location they have in the Woodlands. It does come pretty close. They still have the morning glory muffins, which tend to be good and are my favorite pastry that they serve. Do not get the carrot cake. It is not worth it. However, the lettuce wraps and the wings are. The service is warm and friendly and the ambience is clean and casual. Warning: the only free parking is in the garage so where you're walking shoes.

Dora B.

Yelp
I ordered Migas. Migas consist of fried tortillas. Migas are a dirt cheap meal to make and I paid $14+ dollars for something that costs less than $5 to make. My Migas did not come crispy and I'm literally right across the street from them. This dish was soggy with extra liquid and I ordered them without sauce. A waste of money because the sogginess grossed me out and in the trash it went.

Yelp
Return to Black walnut Café due to an order that was incorrect.. the manager Betsy! Held up to her promise about replacing my order. The order was spectacular. The food was hot and prepared and a quick manner thanks very much black walnut Café in Betsy.

Yelp
Ordered food to go, through a 3rd party. The salmon was 19.00 which is a normal price these days. My food was still very warm when it arrived, which I was happy about that. The seasoning was weird and very tangy, I just ate it because I already paid for it... about an hour after my stomach was hurting really bad. Not sure why but I ended up throwing up all of my food o was super sad about it! But I would try their food again, I would just dine in

Yelp
This establishment is a blessing to the Houston area. The food is to die for delicious and the space is so cozy and provides a homey vibe. There are people that flock here of all stages of life. It doesn't matter if you're craving a Caesar salad or a stack of delicious pancakes... they have it all!!! And multiple locations at that. The service is fantastic and friendly. I love the Black walnut cafe and plan on visiting more this year.

Yelp
This is my first time back since the renovation. It definitely has a new (trendier) vibe. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and they will bring your order to you. Awesome brunch spot, but of course they have breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a pre-fix menu. Desserts and cocktails as well. For food choices, they have a bit of everything to suit anyone. The food is pretty solid. This could be a spot for anything, date, friends and or family. Food came out fairly quickly and staff checked on us to remove items we were finished with. Free two hour parking in the attached garage, or you can pay to park on the street or lot. Weekends during lunch can be busy, so plan ahead. The village can be hectic, Black Walnut has several other locations if you're looking for easier parking options.

Yelp
I remember coming here so often back in the day when I used to run in the rice village area. The place is newly renovated with a lovely interior and I feel like lesser room inside than before. Not sure why it feels like that but I miss the old look. I guess I am not a fan of change. I would probably give it four stars normally but the coffee is so blah! It lacks all the flavor you would expect from a latte from a breakfast spot like black walnut. Conversely, their drip coffee is absolutely amazing! I had the crab cake benedict which was great but then my partner's Texas breakfast wasn't prepared the way that he requested. The cashier said that they cannot prepare eggs besides over soft, medium, or hard. Overall, this is still the black walnut cafe that I remember. However, the smiley, friendly faces are now nowhere to be found. The whole process feels very mechanical and automated (even though it's still human operated). Thankfully there is still decent food available here.

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch and can't wait to go back! We went in at a busy time so we waited in line with enough time to look over the menu. All the staff seemed to be moving quickly and efficiently around the restaurant. We really enjoyed our food - we thought the flavors were great and had some hot sauce brought to us as well. Our drinks were really good too. It had so much seating which is great! Very positive experience, I recommend it to my friends.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was so delicious, everyone was so friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and hot. The potatoes were sooo good!!! And the pancakes were super fluffy, I loved that the syrup came hot. We will for sure be back! Everyone here was awesome!! Best black walnut cafe I've ever been to!

Yelp
If I'm honest, the 1st thought that comes to mind when I think of this Black Walnut is that their menu is coming dangerously close to Cheesecake Factory levels of abundance in selection. Salmon or chicken fried steak? You got it. Chicken and waffles with eggs anytime of day? Ofcourse. Top shelf full cocktail menu, paired with loaded milkshakes, burgers, soups, salads, vegan favs or a colossal selection of desserts...why not? Brunch? No problem. And although you order at the counter, I'd say they bridge the gap between fast casual and full service. They're both classy and casual, spacious and intimate, a restaurants of positive contradictions. While I personally have a love hate relationship with this restaurant (particularly the woodlands location) they're certainly a staple to the community, and worth a stop in if you've never been! This particular location has a darling covered patio with fans, and heaters depending on what's needed, and with all of their locations ample seating as well as a variety of seating options to choose from. It's a perfect spot for duos who cannot agree on where to go!
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
I'll start with service. The service was and usually is always amazing. I love a restaurant that doesn't mind righting a wrong. My steak was overcooked, but they immediately remade it. I'd had other dishes and wouldn't recommend steak and eggs. The grand mimosa however, was the mimosa I never knew I needed. Everyone's pretty chill and some people are even coming from a workout at memorial park. Great little hangout spot to grab some grub.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Great breakfast place. Good food and nice atmosphere. Have eaten here many times when in Houston.

Claire S.

Yelp
Served me almost raw steak when I asked for medium rare. Hoping I don't get food poisoning.
google avatar

Moni T.

Yelp
A casual place to meet up with friends for brunch, service is quick, food is consistently good, price is reasonable, and there's a variety of brunch options on the menu. Coffee is great, lots of choices for dessert, they look amazing! You will walk out feeling very satisfied. Noise level is higher, given how busy this place is, but it's not too bad. Order at the counter yourself, the line can be long but it moves fast. I got the "healthier than the rest omelet", it's delicious, filled with cheese and veggies. It's a big oily, but it's as healthy add it can get from a restaurant. Paired with fruit. Very happy with the choice.

Yelp
I came to Black Walnut Cafe during restaurant week but opted for the regular menu because I arrived SUPER early in the morning. The structure is you order your food, pay, and then find a place to sit. Menu's are at the very front when you walk in, so we grabbed a menu and made our decisions. I ordered birria enchiladas because it sounded different and I figured why not. After paying, I took a seat and waited for my meal. I do like that your food is delivered to your table and once my plate arrived I immediately chowed it down. This was a FANTASTIC meal. The only "complaint" I have is that I wished I could have more. The portions aren't over-the-top big, but they are hearty and will keep you full for a few hours. I can see why this place is so popular. It is quick (ya'll, I ordered and ate in less than 30 minutes!!!) and one of the best breakfasts I've had in Houston to date. Definitely will be back to try some other options.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday before Easter. It was packed but the line moved quickly and we ordered and received our food all within 15 mins. The big plate was the perfect size and so delicious. The mini pancake was normal size not like kids meal mini which was great. Potatoes was crispy which is nice. Everything was right on!

Yelp
I haven't been here in years until a few months ago. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the lobster tacos. Those were good when I had them but this week we decided to go here again since I know they have a lot of healthier options. Service is always great and is the reason I even gave them two stars. The food was very disappointing nobody left here satisfied. My sister preferred from from the Houston restaurant week menu for the appetizer we got to try the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls with ground beef the flavor was missing. For her entrée she had the crabcakes just look at the picture and you can will understand she wouldn't even even finish the second one. The only thing she liked from the meal was the chocolate cake for dessert. It was a huge piece of cake too much for one person to finish on their own, but very good. For me, I had the American burger and a turkey patty. When I tell you that turkey patty was the driest turkey patty I've ever had at a restaurant. I was very disappointed and only finished half of my burger. My brother ordered the pot roast dinner he rated it a 6/10. My mother ordered the Santa Fe salad and she usually doesn't complain about her meal, but she said the salad wasn't that good either. After this visit, we decided to not come back to this restaurant in the future. There are other options in the area that are better and honestly their breakfast menu is probably the best menu they have so only come for breakfast or lunch if you really want to try them out.
google avatar

Yelp
Good and different brunch can sometimes be hard to find as most restaurants all have the same breakfast items. I feel that black walnut really takes brunch up a notch. All of their food and drinks are delicious and have some funky twist that steps it up. I had the French toast with cream cheese on challah bread and it was fantastic. My partner had the blueberry lemon zest pancakes and she loved them as well. We shared a mimosa flight and loved all of the flavors they came in. I also ordered a spicy mango margarita and did not expect it to be so big! It was delicious. The service was very quick. The restaurant is huge with lots of outdoor seating. Will 100% be coming back here!
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
The food here was honestly pretty good! I got the pot roast grilled cheese and it was a perfect pair with the tomato basil soup. The tiramisu gelato was also very good. There was some confusion with the waitstaff about part of our order which required reminding, but overall the staff was accommodating. There is plenty of space and the dining room and patio were clean and inviting. We will be back to try more from the menu. Of note, there is a prix fixe menu available with preselected 3 course options, some of which are not available on the regular menu! Also, the tuxedo cake was to die for!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my first time coming to this location. Normally I go to the one in rice village, but they're closed for renovations right now. This place has a really nice ambiance. I actually think I prefer this location now. I tried the birria breakfast enchiladas, avocado bacon eggs benedict, and a pancake. Everything was superb. Best eggs benedict I have ever had. I also like that they have frozen coffee. I got a mocha frappe. 7/10 because it wasn't as chocolatey as I like, but it was good. You order at the counter, but they do have waitstaff that check on you often to make sure you don't need anything else. Prices are good too. Will definitely come back very soon.
google avatar

Christine O.

Yelp
Second review.... Staff are order takers.... Do not know how to ask the appropriate questions - ie: how would you like your eggs. Wait staff cares less about customers- always with back to floor visiting with baristas... ugh!!!!!!!
google avatar

Mirna C.

Yelp
Great service and food, just limited parking. I've been to this location a few times. The food is always good, everyone that works there is great, and I've never had an issue with my food that wasn't solved. On this occasion I had the chorizo migas but chose not to have the chorizo. I got an iced latte with almond milk. All the beverages I saw them prepare at the bar looked tasty. The good comes out at a descent time even when they're crazy busy and they're usually busy. The only downside is finding parking. Even though it looks like there's plenty it fills up quick. We parked further away and walked in the hot sun, about a block away. Sometimes you get lucky and find a spot.
google avatar

R S.

Yelp
I had the worst uber eats delivery experience of my life from Black Walnut tonight. Granted it's been a few years since I've been back but tonight I was released from the hospital and sick of hospital food I needed a bit of comfort. 1) I called right after I placed the order and spoke to Issac and asked for an extra side of Parmesan (happy to pay for it). He promised it would be there and there was nothing in the bag. Side of cheesy penne is some dry noodles with no cheese. Nothing had enough salt. They were nice and the spinach dip was good so 2 stars
google avatar

Shonda H.

Yelp
Well, here lately I've been tired of spending my money on food that is not worth it. So I decided to start reviewing these places. Their service was good with good personalities. But on to the food, I ordered a Cobb chicken salad. It was $17 , so I was expecting glorious gourmet salad, but no!!! I can honestly say the Chick-fil-A salad is better than this, it even looks better than this salad. And for it to be made fresh, the ingredients use was not the best of the best. But that's my opinion of what I was served today. Update: My stomach is aching and that's all that I had to eat. So, yeah I'm not eating their salad anymore!!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
I enjoyed the oatmeal griddle cakes here with friends on a busy weekend morning. We ordered at the counter and were seatedly promptly in a cozy booth and shared a generous mimosa pitcher. Compared to other sweeter breakfast foods, the oatmeal part of the meal helped balance the sweetness of the blueberries, as opposed to a sugar rush that can be associated with sugary breakfast foods. For $10, this meal is hard to beat! The main downside to this place is the lack of easy parking. It would also be great if the menu has more unique options, but overall, this is a pleasant brunch spot especially good for groups.

Yelp
I was there about a month ago The food was really bad the the staff member told me some of the food is frozen they just re heated up I don't think she was supposed to tell me this there was a roach on the floor the staff didn't welcome me and neither the managers so if yall think black walnut is really good it's NOT trust not everything is fresh at all me and my family will not be eating here ever again!
google avatar

Yelp
Firstly, it's hard as hell to open the door. You REALLY have to have some force to pull it open. Don't know why that is. As I sat, waiting for my food, everyone who came to the door, hesitated in trying to open it, because they initially pulled it with regular force - which just ain't gonna cut it. Bit of an inconvenience but not a dealbreaker. The queso was mehhh. I've had much better so it's nothing I'll need to have again. Now, the lettuce wraps, on the other hand, were great. I enjoyed the peanuts and even the sauce, which are new things to me, but I'm trying to step outside of the box. As for the dealbreaker - The bathroom smells like people actually use it but no one wants to eat at a restaurant where the bathroom has an odor. It smells like the creepy gas station's bathroom that you pass up on a road trip even if your bladder is about to give way because it looks like it shouldn't be operating. *barf* Please fix that.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place more but was not really impressed. The flow inside feels strange to me, as there's a large bar in the middle of the place and dark mood lighting in the morning for breakfast. You order up front and pay and then sit and they bring you the food. My mocha was very bitter and needed multiple sugar packets. All my food was just okay and a little bland- especially the scrambles eggs- no salt or pepper. The outdoor seating seemed okay. Plenty of parking
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
You order when you arrive and the service is very friendly. I loved my Bloody Mary, it was strong and delicious! The chorizo migas tasted great. I loved the addition of feta cheese. The chorizo was a little dry though. I gave it 4 stars because it was a little pricey for what you got. The person I went with was not very happy with her order. I tried some and agreed, it was just ok ( big breakfast plate)
google avatar

Juliana C.

Yelp
Parking may be a little difficult during weekend brunch time. Lines were long but moved fairly quickly. Seating may be difficult but not impossible. The servers were quick and brought us our condiment and utensils right as we sat down. My friend and I ordered the lobster eggs Benedict, taco, and mimosa flight to share. The food was okay but our favorite part was the mimosa flight. The flights were delicious!
google avatar

Mercedes R.

Yelp
Was visiting from out of town and will definitely be coming back!! Sat on the patio, it was so nice outside. I got a side of street corn and the Asian glazed Atlantic salmon with crispy garlic mashed potatoes, sesame seeds, scallions. OMG SO DELICIOUS. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. Hands down one of the best salmon I've ever had and I order salmon out to eat pretty often. And of course craft mimosas which was poured well. My friend got the fish tacos which I did sample and it was tasty too. Can't wait to come back and try more from the menu!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
I went with my sister and she lives close enough to walk, so I didn't really pay attention to parking. I know there is some but I don't remember seeing a ton of spots. You walk in and order at a counter and they give you a buzzer but bring your food to your table when it's ready. The decor doesn't match what I would have expected; it feels pretty formal inside but the food isn't too bougie or froufrou. Honestly, I don't like the decor at all but the food was pretty good. I got the cinnamon roll French toast and as expected, it was very sweet. I got a side of bacon for some savory flavor and for some protein. My sister got the Nashville hot chicken Benedict and I tried a bite and it was really good. While waiting to order, I saw several Benedict's go by on the way to tables, so it seems to be a very popular option. I can't really recall the music situation, I think it was very low but the staff was very friendly! My sister's friends also went this weekend and really enjoyed their meal. Every time black walnut was mentioned, the consensus was that is very well liked.

Hannayka A.

Yelp
Do not come in afternoon. I had to wait about 20 min for a puede of cakes. it seems like they are tired and the service is too bad.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Traveled to Houston early Sunday morning and discovered this little gem of a brunch restaurant. Sat at the bar and was immediately welcomed and offered a drink. Had their grapefruit martini which was amazing. Asked for a suggestion on the eggs Benedict options and went with her suggestion Southern Chicken Benedict. Spicy juicy and delicious. Although I was full after eating it I wanted more. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Houston. The vibe at the bar was great and the outdoor seating looked inviting. Well done Black Walnut Cafe.

Shatoyia N.

Yelp
I have been here for breakfast several times. I don't eat pork so I normally get non-pork breakfast meat. When I ask for regular sausage I was told there was an up charge. Wow! An up charge to have regular sausage instead of turkey sausage. I opted out. So, I ask could I have avocado instead of meat which he stated there would be no up charge for that. Very interesting! I also ordered the mimosa flight which was exceptional!!! The food came out quick.

Maria H.

Yelp
Regret not taking a picture of my meal, but had the blackened red fish with mashed potatoes and street corn, delicious!! The manager, Bill stopped to ask about our meals, super nice person, who wanted nothing but to make sure we enjoyed our lunch. Great ambient, will definitely come back as it was our first time at this location. Stayed long enough to enjoy a chocolate cake
google avatar

Yelp
Love the lobster pasta Great location Quiet and safe for catching up on work yum yum

Mirna G.

Yelp
I recently moved from Las Vegas and found this spot. I like to run at the Memorial Park and I wanted to eat something refreshing and fulfilling, and it definitely was just what I was looking for, this dish definitely tops Las Vegas salads for sure!
google avatar

Vena W.

Yelp
Lobster Egg Benedict was very good! My only complaint was a one egg was poached to the consistency of a hard-boiled egg and it appeared to have most of the egg white missing. Hash browns were cooked just right. And the mimosa was right on point. Service was excellent, they kept checking on us and were quick to pick up our empty plates. The place is roomy and has a nice cafe vibe with both inside and outside seating. There were booths, small intimate tables for two and standard 4-person tables. Nice place to sit and talk while enjoying a good meal.

Ahdrianna P.

Yelp
The food was amazing today! The French toast was off the chain and I love their potatoes. Highly recommended! Service was quick and fast
google avatar

Luke G.

Yelp
I came here for brunch today and was extremely disappointed. The food was horrible and the service was subpar. I ordered the chicken fried steak which was burnt to a crisp and inedible. Attempted to have it remade and the second portion was served raw and bloody. At this point I had been in the restaurant for close to an hour and was starving... should have left but really wanted to eat something. I ordered the Nashville hot eggs Benedict and nothing about the dish was spicy. It tasted similar to a McGriddle sandwich from McDonalds. Not sure what happened today (I have had many good meals here) but please save your money and dine elsewhere.
google avatar

Zad D.

Yelp
Came here a couple of times while visiting H-Town. The pancakes are always a hit. I REALLY love them - whether the plain ones or the cinnamon roll pancakes. No complaints at all with the food. The service is pretty standard and nothing extra. Would definitely recommend and be back!

Mary S.

Yelp
As I told the manager, Bill, today. This is one of our favorite places to eat in Houston. Today we arrived at the same time as a bus full of people. The staff was able to graciously provide for that large group as well as the others of us who were not a part. The food was the same delicious quality and the staff was polite, professional, and gave excellent service.

Dakira J.

Yelp
I really enjoy the atmosphere. Nabil is such a professional and has such a welcoming guy. The food is always delicious . The staff are very attentive. This the Hot spot for the local runners.

Yelp
We ordered the chef breakfast and did not like the gluten free pancakes.. the manger came over and saw we didn't eat the pancakes and offered to give us regular pancakes. The ambiance was nice and the service was top notch
