Where to Eat on the Olympic Peninsula

"As Route 112 meanders along the northwest edge of the peninsula, dining options get sparse. Joyce’s Blackberry Cafe is a welcome oasis, delivering on its name with blackberry barbecue sauce, shakes, pie, and particularly excellent pancakes. The truly hungry can take on the massive Sasquatch burger." - Matthew Lombardi, Eater Staff

On our drive back to Seattle from Cape Flattery, we did a quick search for a classic American-style diner and Joyce & Co Cafe popped up. We are so glad we stopped! The ambiance is great—the interior is nicely organized and neat. The staff were just as welcoming, greeting us with genuinely friendly smiles. But the true highlight is the food. We ordered the Mushroom Bacon Swiss Burger and the Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger (we upgraded one order of fries to tater tots for $2). These were easily some of the best burgers we’ve ever had. The beef was perfectly cooked and juicy, and the spicy chicken had just the right kick and crunch. Not everyone can perfect a burger like that! The sides were great, too: the fries are thin and crispy, and the tater tots were excellent. If you're looking for a satisfying meal, I highly doubt anyone will leave here disappointed.

We’ve been on the hunt for a true ‘logger burger’ — one that takes up the whole plate — and we finally found it at Joyce & Co! The Sasquatch Burger was exactly what we hoped for. Our kids were thrilled when it came out, and it’s not just a novelty size — the burger itself was excellent. Perfectly cooked, tender, and reminded them of the ‘grandpa burgers’ they love, just supersized. It came with a big basket of fries, and there was more than enough for our whole family to share, which made it cost-effective too. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
If you're looking for excellent homemade food, look no further. This place exceeded my expectations on the quality of their food. It was delicious!! I'd 💯 go back!! Just make sure you check the hours they are open. On the other hand, lower your expectations when it comes to service. The waitress we had forgot to give me my drink, then when reminded a second time about a lemon. Forgot again. She seemed to keep forgetting things on her 20ft walk from our table to the bar area. That aside, I'd go back just for the food!

We had lunch here on Saturday with family and were very impressed. The food was fresh and delicious. Handmade fish and burgers instead of the usual frozen options. Service was excellent and we loved the extras; homemade pie, soft serve ice cream and a convenient drive-thru for a quick cone, coffee or spritzer. Highly recommended!

Google
Myself and my two friends came into the cafe after having a wet night camping further up the coast and had an awesome experience. We sat in a booth and had the loggers breakfast that was piping hot, served super fast and was absolutely delicious. Our server Cheryl was an hero and recommended the cinnamon buns that had just come out the oven and they were the best I’ve ever had. Best breakfast I’ve ever had. Cheers Cheryl you legend :)

Google
The coffee and food were great. I had the blueberry pancake with 2 eggs and bacon. Lee had the traditional breakfast. Ava our waitress was wonderful. I think if a bit of background music was playing it would add to the atmosphere

Google
Absolutely love this place! What a gem 🤍 this place truly lives up to the cafe experience! The food is absolutely great, we got the Smokey burger & the fish n chips. Also highly recommend the potato salad! The service + vibes are top tier! You have to get the blackberry or raspberry pie! Picture perfect cafe 😍

Google
Only place open for breakfast in town? Pretty much no reason for it to be this good. They could get away with McDonald's quality if they were the only fame in town but this place smashed it out of the park. I almost didn't get pancakes, too because most pancake places even the famous chains do a bad job at pancakes. These ones were large and fluffy. Everything on the table you would need without having to ask. Loved it. Doesn't really look like it on the outside but inside it's a diner. There's a bar, booths, tables which can be moved to accommodate parties of 2-6, or combine to a booth for even larger parties. Small place but adaptive and a constantly moving staff keep the musical chairs singing, people getting fed well all the while.

Yelp
Great food, family atmosphere.I ordered chicken fried steak this time.mmm yummy .Been there several times always good food and Great service. Server Cherry stood out, although all the servers are good. When I ride through Joyce I always stop in.

Yelp
I had the chicken fried steak and it hit the spot after a morning hike. Probably the best I've ever had. Definitely nailed the comfort food. The woman who helped me was cherry and so nice! Love the outdoor seating too.

Yelp
Just found another hidden gem. Staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions. We had a group of six. We ordered lunch and everyone enjoyed their food. The blackberry bbq sauce is a must try. I had the patty melt. It was tasty. Several in our group had the four bean salad side and enjoyed itThe tater tots were crispy and delicious. And the pies were so fresh and delicious. Not many tables, but well worth the trip to try the food and desserts.

Yelp
The friendly service here at BlackBerry Cafe was exceptional, and the food was delicious!!!

Steven L.

Yelp
Went with friends to get Blackberry Milkshakes on a hot day. The nice waitress informed us that they were completely out of milk and ice cream which of course limited our choices. Got fries and diet coke instead! Good fries.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service! Varied menu that is delivered hot and sweetly. But...... the 5 star review is for PIE! Having tried pie everywhere we travel...... oh baby! This has got delicious pie! Flaky buttery crust with lotsa filling! Every time we come to Salt Creek we order a whole pie to go and stop at Joyce's store for a thingy of ice cream to go with it. We love it. What a way to camp!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Omg out in the middle of nowhere Joyce, WA what a gem! If you are out visiting the Olympic national park this is a must go place, I highly recommend their special breakfast sausage and blackberry pie! It was so good we ordered a whole pie to take home.

Yelp
Service was amazing, the server was super friendly. Food is AWESOME! My girlfriend hates pancakes, like absolutely despises them, but she loved the blackberry pancakes. The eggs are absolutely amazing too, literally perfect. We both work in the food industry so we are rather picky but this place is awesome. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Flew in from Texas, and this place was AMAZING. Both of us got burgers, which were juicy, well-cooked, and had Tilamook cheese, fresh veggies out of the garden, and toasted bun. Then we topped it off with dessert, also made from fruits/berries from the owner's garden. And as incredible as all the food was, the guy who was running the front of the restaurant was even better. We will definitely be back anytime we're in the area! This was a win all the way around!
google avatar

Yelp
The best option for food in the Joyce area, which doesn't say much because Joyce is a tiny town. But the food is solid and the staff are nice. Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you stop on a busy tourist day. A great business that is also very supportive of the local community. Don't miss the wild blackberry pie if they have it. There are also options to sit inside or out. Don't trust the hours on Yelp. Yelp says it is closed at times when it is open.

Yelp
It's just a little roadside breakfast-and-lunch cafe on a back highway some ten miles out of Port Angeles, but it's ideal of its kind. One friendly guy does all the service. The menu is basic, except that this is blackberry country so you'll see blackberries. The basic burger is a Blackberry BBQ burger. Gotta try that: hefty half-pound of hand-formed meat (not those pre-made fast food things) with the usual toppings and the sauce, which is mostly a bbq sauce but which does have the tang of blackberries to it. And for dessert, the friendly guy will pull out everything from the fridge: blackberry-and-raspberry pie, blackberry cobbler, blackberry-oatmeal bars ... whatever they've got that day. Worth going out for, or missing Lake Crescent on a drive out to the rain forest.

Yelp
I enjoyed my patty melt, made w grilled onions and very juicy. Onion rings excellent!!! Should have skipped the coffee, was not that good, maybe old at lunchtime, flavored creamers made it worse. My companion had a BlT served on sour dough And potato salad - the bacon the best part, potato salad good. Lots of families there, it is a relaxed and friendly place.

Yelp
A nice local restaurant. Had 2 mornings worth of breakfast there and everything was fabulous. Home cooked breakfast before backpcking in the national park or out to Caoe Flattery. Good food, great service and friendly smiles. Opens at 8:00 which is a bit late but that's a minor critique. Go there!!!

Yelp
What an outstanding piece of local color! Middle of no where on Hwy 112 in northwestern Washington. If you are traveling in Washington state, Hwy 112 is so much more scenic than interstate 90 and the traffic is so minimal that you can make good time. Joyce, Washington is a town somewhat lost in time. We stopped at their former railroad station that is now a museum, and very interesting. The docent, or nice lady who runs the museum is quite a character. bubbling over with facts and figures, tons of photos and a collection of "things" from this town. Please treat yourself with a visit. Hungry before 3pm, go down the road (west) and there you will find the Blackberry Cafe. Tiny, menu written on white boards, it is quite a treat. Lots of berry desserts, mostly pies and berry pancakes. Standard egg/breakfast fare and sandwiches and burgers for lunch. As they run out of items, they erase the white board. The star is the senior lady who does everything but cook. She is a blur of energy taking orders, cleaning tables, delivering food, answering questions and...even accommodating take away orders. When people complain, she does not get outwardly angry, and just rolls with it. They even have soft ice cream, which goes great with any of the desserts. Food was, truly, home made. Very good and we left wishing that we could come back. Enjoy real local flavor, with character.

Yelp
Whenever we're near Joyce, the Blackberry Cafe is a must stop for slices of their Blackberry Pie. This is the best blackberry pie anywhere, including the ones I make. The crust is delicious and the slices are thick with delicious blackberries which are sweetened perfectly. This is definitely a 5 star pie and since I make them I understand the effort that goes into making a delicious pie. Tho at $9.00 a slice now, the price has become a bit steep - luckily the slices are large enough that two can share. Maybe next time I'll call in advance and order a whole pie for $36

Yelp
Loved fish and chips! Strawberry rhubarb pie was fantastic as well. They have high chairs, boosters and sippy cups if you need them
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
My wife and I had the blackberry pancakes, peppered bacon and hashbrowns. Bacon was some of the best I ever had. Very friendly, very accommodating. Loved this small cafe!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious traditional diner food that was crispy and fresh. Perfect burgers - excellent onion rings and blackberry pie to die for.

Cherry S.

Yelp
There isn't a thing on the menu that I do not enjoy. They have home-cooked food, delicious specials, and fresh baked desserts every morning! The indoor dining is warm and welcoming, like coming home to a home-cooked meal! The ambiance is laid-back and casual, like your own kitchen!

Yelp
We came here after our hike, and there were only a couple people there so we got helped fairly quickly. The whole place was cute and cozy, I liked it! I got a Denver Omelette, and my husband got the Blackberry BBQ Burger. The omelette was nice and fluffy, and they didn't skimp on the filling either. It was really good! The potatoes were just okay, I wish they were crispier but that's just my preference. My husband really enjoyed his burger, it was nice and juicy. Overall we really enjoyed stopping by for a bite to eat, and the next time we come up to WA we'll stop by again. :)
google avatar

Beth E.

Yelp
Limited hours. Indoor and outdoor seating. Mom and pop place. We got 2 burgers, slice of pie and a milkshake for $50. Staff was great! Food delish. Fries were perfect. Pie- yum.

John R.

Yelp
This is a must stop. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The gentleman that served us was pleasant and instantly made you feel that we has been there many times with his warm welcome and service, even though this was our first time visiting. We'll definitely be back as our breakfast was outstanding. Great experience all the way around

Yelp
I can't imagine why there's not all five stars here! We stopped in there and we're blown away by the friendliness and the absolute awesome hamburger and crispy chicken sandwich! The hamburger bun was the best I've ever had. Found out later it's homemade also their pies were excellent, I couldn't eat anymore when I left there. the coffee was extremely good as well. Sometimes coffee is sort of hit or miss at these hole in the wall off the beaten path diners. I know Joyce is not a destination for many people but if you're on your way to Sekui or neah bay, stop in and at least have a piece of pie. You won't regret it.

Yelp
cute little roadside cafe. Very quick service, good food, and wonderful customer service. An upbeat atmosphere with good ol' rock n roll playing.

Yelp
We happened upon this place completely by accident and WOW, was all we could say when we were done. On a weekend highlighted by good food, this place stuck out! The home of the 20oz Sasquatch burger, this place has a unique Pacific Northwest nostalgia, a great Ma and Pa drive-in sort of vibe, and makes possibly the best barbecue sauce I've ever tasted. Seriously, the blackberry barbecue sauce made for hands-down the best fry dipping that we've had in a long time. It also made some boss level campfire sauce! We found this place completely by accident, as it was basically the only spot to grab food that was midway between Forks Washington and Poulsbo. We enjoyed a number of burgers, onion rings, crinkle fries and some shakes. The burgers were some of the best we've had in all of Washington. Really nice flavor on the meat, some good bacon and A good amount of cheese. The onion rings were quite good as well, as were the fries. Combined with the barbecue/mayo campfire sauce, and this made for as good of a combination as we could've hoped for. The shakes were the only non-homerun, but we only tried the chocolate and a root beer (by request of our eight year old), and based on the blackberry offerings, I suspect the blackberry shakes leave a little to be desired. If the blackberry/raspberry pie was any indication, anything involving berries from this area is to be sought out! We were out on the peninsula for an entire weekend, and my only regret was not ordering the Sasquatch burger. Granted, the thing was $32.95 but it could easily be shared among our family of five, and would've made for a memorable Christmas card photo!

Yelp
Great place! A must to stop by if you're passing through. Smokey Burger was amazing! Then came back for biscuits and gravy and French toast. Delicious! Great service! We'll be back as soon as we can!

Yelp
I came here due to the reviews expecting it to be a pleasant experience. I don't know if they were dealing with issues unknown to me but my experience was not live the reviews people posted. While I love the diner decor and the sweet waitress, I had an issue with my hash-browns. The hash-browns were overly cooked to the point of being crispy crunchy. It would have been fine if it had been just that but it wasn't. Initially, my husband had asked for some mustard and mayo for his breakfast and was met with a gentleman who seemed emotionally unbalanced. He had not only reached in front of my face with his arm to jostle through the condiments on the table, but had whatever to say to my husbands request before leaving the table. We had also asked for my hash-browns to be replaced since they hurt my gums to chew them and he wanted to say what is wrong with them. Clearly, we had given him the reason why and he wanted to argue. After he went away, I decided at that point I no longer wanted to be there. When my husband went up to this gentleman to say we were leaving, he overheard him talking badly about us. He even called us "citiots." After that, I will never be back.

Lorraine H.

Yelp
I'm not sure how good anything is. We stopped by close to closing time and wanted to take a piece of blackberry pie to go. Not one of three people working there even acknowledged we existed. Not a hello, goodbye, sorry we closed early... nothing. The are one of the rudest people I've ever met.

Joss L.

Yelp
Pancakes, hash with cheese, biscuits with gravy, sausage, and coffee were excellent! Good portions, excellent quality, a good stop for breakfast in Joyce!
google avatar

Loretta N.

Yelp
Nice lunch at the BlackBerry Cafe in Joyce, Washington after hiking the Spruce Railroad Trail in the Olympic National Park. Quaint little restaurant with excellent service and good food. My husband liked his Mushroom burger and said it was really good and the roll was really soft. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was very good as well. The fries were cooked perfectly! Fast convenient lunch that was very good!

Kimberly S.

Yelp
We love the food and staff. Great cook, I especially love his berry or wild pancakes. We eat Breakfast there on weekends and I can't recommend the restaurant enough.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast on our way out of town after a weekend of camping. It felt good to get a full meal before hitting the road. This cafe is charming and so are the staff that work here. Very friendly and attentive. The food was good, coffee hot, and pie delicious. Great place to stop. Definitely want to come back to try the 20oz Sasquatch burger.

Maria R.

Yelp
We stopped here for an unplanned breakfast and got the meat n cheese omelette w hash browns and the light breakfast w home fries and sausage. The hash browns were so good, they needed no additional seasoning. All was cooked perfectly and we were satisfied.
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Pies here are legendary but oh the price! For $10 a slice, this pastry had better be epic, and it was. My wife makes wonderful blackberry pies (I'm the designated picker) and she agrees the pies here top her efforts. We couldn't make this a regular stop for the money, but it's worthwhile for a special treat.
google avatar

Ynez F.

Yelp
We've been here for a month now and tried 2 more soups, chili and burgers. They have great soups and my favorite is their vegetables soup. Sasquatch burger is great if you are sharing with someone. I don't know anyone that can eat a pie size burger and takeout container worth of fries. Their blackberry cobbler is a must try.

Katrina W.

Yelp
First of all the service was amazing and so kind! The food was outstanding and so well made. My husband ordered the BBQ Beef Brisket and we both loved it! Best one we have had yet. Definitely will be coming back!
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
we went to this place because it was on the way to our destination and seemed like a nice small cafe to have a quick bite and it was amazing! i had a blackberry smoothie and it was incredible, the place has great staff and a nice, cute location.

Yelp
We had camped nearby the night before and were in need of breakfast the next morning. I had looked this place up before we left town, so I knew they had good reviews and were going to be open Saturday morning. Seems more like a locals place than tourists since it's off the beaten road. We came in here Saturday morning around 9 am, and were greeted and told to pick anywhere we would like to sit. We ordered: - chicken fried steak with 1/2 hashbrowns 1/2 homefries - crab cake Benedict $15 - BBQ sauce to go $8 - 1 single blackberry pancake with blackberries cooked into pancake The waitress was very accommodating. Sarina and I split the crab cake benny, the portion was pretty big and filling. I also had a bite of the chicken fried steak and that was delicious as well. The 3 of of split a pancake, loved the blackberries in it! This place is known for blackberries, so we had to try something with black berries in it! On their menu, you can buy their BBQ sauce. Cody is a huge fan of BBQ sauce, so he got one to go. Little did we know, they give it to you in a 16 oz soft drink cup, and not a more durable container. We had another night's worth of camping to do, so this was a little difficult for us. We ended up pouring the BBQ sauce into a Nalgene bottle and stored it in our cooler. A mason jar or plastic bottle might have been a lil better for us to handle. Overall, great food, and we will definitely stop here again!

Yelp
During a recent trip, we decided to randomly drive on a different road to our destination. We passed Blackberry Cafe and vowed to come back to eat after our hike. The staff here was really great! I don't get to experience a country diner much anymore but it reminded me of many placed in my hometown. I had the fish and chips. The crinkle fries were piping hot and crisp on the outside. Yum! The fish was okay. The texture was a bit watery and it seemed frozen. The batter was a bit burnt. The slaw was unpleasant so I didn't eat it. My son had grilled cheese and fries and he was perfectly happy with everything. The BBQ pork sandwich was unique. The blackberry BBQ sauce was a very nice touch! The potato salad was well balanced with tart and sweet flavors. The blackberry lemonade was good but a little too sweet. I added water and it was perfect! We got the last piece of blackberry pie and it was delicious! The filling had great consistency and flavor. The crust was rustic and homemade. We also had a bunch of chewy cookies that were only 5 for $1!!! This place is called the Blackberry Cafe. Everything we had with blackberry was delicious so I would lean into those items next time.

Geoff J.

Yelp
I liked the Black Berry Cafe! First visit, a burger with jalapeños, bacon and cheese w/ GF bun. A perfect burger. Second visit meat lovers omelet w/ GF bread. Another great meal. We got Rhubarb and Blue berry slices of pie. Both were very good, not too sweet. Prices were reasonable and staff were very nice people. (I didn't see a $10 piece of pie as mentioned in another review.) Wanted to go back for the Black Berry burger, but not enough days on our trip, next time! Lots of locals visiting as well. That should tell you all you need to know!
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Great local place for breakfast and lunch. We ordered two cheeseburgers with fries and onion rings. The burgers were good and the onion rings were great. We had the wild blackberry pancakes and the mushroom and cheese omelet. The pancakes are huge and have a lot of blackberries- one is enough for one person. The omelet was good and the home fries were crispy and tasty. They're a little short staffed so expect to wait. No indoor seating now but there are a few tables outside. Good place to stop if you're hungry and in the area.
google avatar

R M.

Yelp
Wow, that best pie ever! We loved everything we ate at this restaurant and we decided that we would pay the premium for the slice of blackberry pie. No regrets! And the server and her service were great too!
google avatar

Marlene T.

Yelp
Fantastic pancakes, burgers and coffee. The staff took about 30 minutes to explain various tips about the surrounding area so that we'd be well informed (were visiting from San Francisco). Well worth a stop!

Mark F.

Yelp
We walked in based on the reviews, and we were not disappointed! One of the friendliest places, the cook talked to us and got us started. The waitress was accurate and lots of fun to talk to. And the food? the biscuts and gray were wonderful and the pie was a perfect way to finish the meal. And the crew acknowledged that pie was the best breakfast there is! Anytime I get out there, they will have my business.
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
Pies are homemade good, fish&chips coleslaw we good but what made the wrinkle fries yummy was their blackberry bbq sauce you must ask for this!

Linda C.

Yelp
We found this place to be over rated and tourists are getting caught up in the hype. My burger reminded me of Culver's butter burger. It was crispy browned but obviously fried in oil on the griddle and somewhat greasy, not juicy. It wasn't a bad burger, just not a quality great burger. The onion rings were great, lightly battered and crispy, as were the sweet potato fries. I love pie, I bake pies and when we travel, often will go to well rated pie places, so was excited about trying the "well known" blackberry pie. The filling was great, not too sweet and with a hint of lemon. The crust left much to be desired- somewhat under baked and doughy, not flakey and certainly nothing to write home about, especially at $10/slice. If you are in the area and in need of food, you sill get a decent meal but I wouldn't drives miles to try it.
google avatar

Big Dee S.

Yelp
Go have the Sasquatch Burger! If you don't, you blew it. It is the Biggest, the tastiest, the BEST burger in this part of the Northwest, at a tiny little Ma & Pa type restaurant, that comes with great fries, Don't miss it.

T E.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, and are so glad they are (somehow) surviving covid. I've had more different things here than I can remember and its usually fast and good. The chicken strips for our toddler this year were surprisingly well seasoned and juicy The blackberry shakes alone are worth coming back for every year. Eating on a picnic bench in the meadow is lovely!
google avatar

Marie P.

Yelp
We have only stopped for their milkshakes a few times. The strawberry and the blackberry are yummy!!! Its a small local hole in the wall. The people that work their are really nice and patient while I couldnt decide on a flavor. There are always cars in the parking lot when we drive by. I rated for the milkshakes :)

Yelp
Homemade everything. Great portions. Yummy food. Friendly service!! Need I say more? I was too hungry to take pictures but I wanted to make sure this cafe got some love. We were camping at Crescent Beach and wanted a good meal but didn't want to drive 25 minutes to Port Angeles. Three of us ordered burgers. They were all juicy and delicious. The fries were hot, crispy and the right amount of salty. I was very excited that they had sweet potato fries. They were a nice treat! My daughter ordered a pancake from the kids menu. Took a bite and instantly regretted not ordering breakfast. That was one of the best pancakes I have EVER had in my life. No joke!! So flavorful that no syrup would even be needed. Super fluffy and cooked to perfection. I'd glad go back just for another pancake! We were so pleased to run into this little oasis! We will definitely be back next time we're in the area!
