The 20 Best Bakeries In Seattle

"There are quite a few boutique bake shops on Bainbridge Island, but the only one you need to know about is Blackbird. This is where to go for a solid breakfast or snack with a latte. Even if the person in front of you sends you into a rage by claiming the last two slices of almond butter layer cake, there are many other delicious things to be had here—mainly, the best blueberry lemon-glazed scone we’ve ever tasted, or Helen’s French Roll, a.k.a. the minimalist-chic cousin to coffee cake." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Google
Great food overall and nice atmosphere, scones are nice and savory, the cheesecake really surprised me as being a really good mix of not to sweet and also very filling, I personally found the cinnamon roll too sweet but my partner liked it. We paid 35$ for 2 scones, 1 cheesecake slice, 1 roll, 2 coffees and 1 oat milk for our little one which I feel is a very good price.

Google
Blackbird Bakery created all of the baked goods for our dessert bar at our wedding - they helped us determine quantities, sizes of platters we would need to rent, and were able to deliver to the venue. I have celiac disease and Heidi, the owner, was very clear that they are not a dedicated gluten free facility. She talked me through their cross-contamination prevention protocols, they have dedicated prep space, kitchen utensils, mixing bowls, etc. I appreciated the thoughtful warning, and as I have eaten there many, many times without getting sick, I felt safe ordering for our wedding. We were able to have a delicious selection of pies, their famous Italian cream cake, cookies, and cupcakes - including some non-gluten free vegan cupcakes for our vegan guests. We were able to go in for a "tasting" of sorts and look through their wedding book of previous events - where we had some cookies and a mezzaluna so I could taste their GF pie crust. If you have a chance, I highly recommend ordering an Italian cream cake or GF pie custom - it will blow your mind! Thank you again Heidi and the Blackbird Team!

Google
This was the best chocolate cream / French Silk Pie I’ve had in years. It he shop is kind of a tight space with the line, but we found seats to enjoy our snacks. Definitely worth a visit if you are on the island.

Jared

Google
Amazing blueberry lemon scone and savory croissant! Service was fast and friendly. Only improvement could be to the line that accumulates near the door…but maybe that is just the costs of being good and busy 🤷🏻‍♂️

Google
Their pastries alone are worth the trip to Bainbridge. We got two pastries to share, and they’re giant! Loved the cinnamon roll especially since it was so fluffy, but not too sweet.

Google
Found a bakery on Bainbridge Island that offers gluten-free pastry! Loved my raspberry muffin which was pretty moist and had a nice crisp muffin top.

Google
Blackbird made our wedding cake and cupcakes for our eclectic mini wedding in 2021, and they were absolutely perfect! Not only were they adorable, but the cake was incredibly delicious. Thank you for being such a cherished staple in the community!

Google
Blackbird bakery has great reviews and we were looking forward to going here. When we got here, they didn’t have the pastries we wanted as we probably arrived too late. Unfortunately, the coffee was just OK. The shop itself is really cool and the staff was nice, but not over the top friendly. This bakery is on a main strip so there’s steady foot traffic. We like this place, but the our expectations may have been too high.

Yelp
One of the few bakeries right off the ferry. Long lines but moved quick! We loved our savory croissant and scones. Scones were not dry at all! It was crowded inside but plenty of tables outdoors.
google avatar

Hoa Q.

Yelp
There are a few large booths inside that are comfortable to sit at to enjoy their pastries and coffee. It looked like there were seats outside, too. They provide ice cold water on the side that customers can serve themselves. The staff is very friendly, stopping to provide help when asked. They have pretty handmade macraweave wall hangings for sale that double as decor. I got the apricot scone, cherry mezzeluna, triple chocolate super chunk, and pride rainbow cookie to share with the kids. All were yummy, but the apricot scone was more grainy and wheaty than the kids liked.

Yelp
Stopped by while shopping Winslow; I just wanted a bite something sweet but not too. And, not chocolate. We had already stopped and got chocolates to go a few doors down. We got a couple of pastries and coffee sat and rested a bit! Wonder experience from the first step inside. The staff were working like a team of friends and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming! Simply delicious.

Yelp
I found this cute bakery in the downtown area of Bainbridge Island. The sweet aroma of pastries fills your nose as you walk in and the people working there are so warm and friendly. I immediately eyed the giant cinnamon roll ($6) the size of my head and knew I wanted it immediately. I took my first bite and it was unfortunately super dry. I typically like a moist cinnamon roll with the delicious cinnamon filling inside, but this was not it. The bread was just dry with a hint of cinnamon flavor. The icing saved the dish in my opinion. The sweet delicious flavors were just perfect. My boyfriend ordered a banana walnut slice ($5.10), which was super delicious and the perfect amount of sweetness, and a 8oz ginger chai latte ($5.05), which he thoroughly enjoyed. They have plenty of other delicious baked goods in this place, but I would recommend skipping the cinnamon roll.

Yelp
Came here after so many recommendations and it definitely lived up to the hype! The strawberry rhubarb pie was perfectly sweet and tart, I just wish the slice was larger for $6.30. My latte was delicious and was perfectly sweet, not too much syrup or ice. Service was great as well, the lady taking my order was very kind with helping me pick a bakery item since it was my first time.
google avatar

Claudia E.

Yelp
The caramel latte and their baked goods were soooo good. The coffee had rich dark notes and the pastry (lemon poppyseed) was fresh and had a light sweet frosting that complimented it perfectly. As I was walked downtown, a group of people asked where I grabbed my coffee from based on the aroma of the coffee alone alone. Friendly staff that provided good recommendations.

Yelp
Orange Roll with cranberry sauce inside was divine. So soft and perfect for sweet tooths. Cappuccino was unfortunately bitter. No issues with service. There's a few spots for seating so you're more likely to order to-go.
google avatar

Jesse R.

Yelp
Came across this bakery during our visit at bainbridge. They had a few things to choose from and we decided to get the snickerdoodle cookies, chocolate cookie and the lemon poppy muffin (I think). Although we are not gluten free, the snickerdoodle cookie was a hit for us. Think but soft. The service was pretty good and the ambiance was of a cute coffee shop.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
It's a pretty busy bakery with cafe seating and long lines but the baked goods are pretty good here! Also reasonably priced! Service is quick and efficient. I got the peach tea scone with vanilla glaze and it was so yummy! Would love to come back to try their toast or some of their other items!
google avatar

Karolina N.

Yelp
Good pastries, meh coffee. They have a few tables to sit inside which is great. Great location in Bainbridge!

Yelp
Walked by to take a little look see before we ate pizza next door, at around 11:28am, and there was a line out the door! We decided to come by after lunch. No line about an hour later, but the place was still buzzing with people at the tables. So many delicious cakes and pastries to choose from, but after a filling lunch we decided on the Italian Sweet Cream cake. I don't normally enjoy nuts and this cake had almond slices, but it went well with the cake! Loved the frosting too! It was nice and light, definitely sweet cream. It was $9 and some change and worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by on a Saturday morning. The line was out the door and it took 20-25 minutes to make it to the front. There was a large assortment of baked goods. I opted to try the banana walnut bread and lemon blueberry scone. I liked the texture of the banana walnut bread and thought it was tasty. Both items however were a bit too sweet in my opinion. Service was friendly and welcoming. There are some tables inside but plenty of space outside to sit.

Yelp
A beautiful bakery bustling with patrons, Blackbird appeared the place to be in Bainbridge. I got a scrumptious little cheese pastry that was absolutely fabulous out of all the amazing options they had on display in their cases. You definitely want tohead here first off the ferry if you plan to visit, as it was indeed quite popular and had a line stretching well outside the door when we first passed it. The line was shorter when we went back and everyone working did a wonderful job of getting everyone's orders placed and then delivered. It was a little crowded inside with, but if the crowd there ever dies down (or before the crowd really starts) it looks like it would be a nice and cozy place to enjoy yourself while you enjoy their baked goods.
google avatar

Gabriella V.

Yelp
It's small, but cozy. Everything looks delicious and everything I ordered was fantastic. Nothing is over the top sweet and everything has a good balance. The coffee was fantastic! The lovely people at the counter were very helpful and kind.
google avatar

Martin F.

Yelp
Food was wonderful. Two lemon covered blueberry scones for us. Counter service was welcoming and efficient. A real neighborhood bakery. Lots of locals. Kids and old people welcome.

Yelp
We saw this cute bakery on a recent weekend, daytrip to Bainbridge, and we had to drop-in (as we love a good pastry). Unfortunately, by the time of our visit around 1:00pm, the selection was very limited - and staff seemed "over it." We tried to be understanding, as the lines were long - and we assumed they had been all day. Still, it made the experience less enjoyable - especially after waiting in the before mentioned long line. We hurried to order a slice of chocolate cake and a slice of pie. When we ate them later, both were pretty tasty - especially the crust on the pie - which was special. I think this is a spot I would have loved under different circumstances - less people, more selection, friendlier staff, and available seating. Maybe we'll try to visit during the week - versus the weekend - next time. Pro-Tip: While the bakery has limited seating, there are lovely, public seating options throughout the downtown corridor.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
This is a must go to bakery before the big crowds hit it. They have delicious baked goods and a tumeric chai drink thats so food! Not a lot of seating but well worth it to grab something to go!
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Quick service, good iced coffees, and so many pastries to pick from! Even with a long line, it moved so quickly. A lot of options for cakes. Reasonably priced pastries and the best on bainbridge island. Lemon blueberry scone was the best texture and not too sweet, perfectly frosted. Tons of outdoor covered seating and a few seats indoors.

Sarah A.

Yelp
The iced vanilla latte was so rich flavorful, the perfect amount of sweetness! I ordered the toast with jam because it said "buttery" and I was not disappointed. I ordered to go and melted butter had pooled at the bottom (a good thing!!!). This was the whole wheat bread and it was so good I could've eaten the whole thing without the jam, but the jam made it even more delicious.
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Came around 3:30 on a Sunday. Very cloudy outside so I wanted a nice hot drink. My friends and I got three hot cocoas and it was delicious (more milky than chocolate tho). There were a lot of yummy baked goods options and the toast was delicious thick and buttery. Good price too! Service was fast and friendly and I loved the cute vibes. Cute blackbird merchandise like the tumbler :)
google avatar

Leilani Q.

Yelp
Toast, toast, TOAST!! Grab the toast, it is so good. I tried a different pastry the previous time I visited and the toast is just the best thing I've had so far! Whole wheat oatmeal toast with butter and jam: amazing texture of crunchy well toasted bread with a nice chew, butter and jam were delicious also!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
This establishment has long been a favorite of my parents but I haven't latched onto to fascination myself. They will serve you a great thick slice of warm bread with butter. The pastries are popular with regulars but not the traditional pastries I yearn for at breakfast time. They don't have French pastries. They dont have donuts. The location is small and can get busy as the line fills most of the indoor space. Is very cozy on winter day along the windows. The staff are friendly and will get you a fresh slice of bread or a coffee, but I'm not going to become a regular.

Yelp
A small but busy bakery located right in the heart of Bainbridge, about a ~10 minute walk from the ferry -- you can expect it to be pretty busy for the whole morning, especially after a ferry gets in! It's a touristy spot, and they have some tables and chairs inside. I got a lemon-blueberry scone and it was FIRE -- it was so flavorful and a hefty scone. I was obsessed with their cakes and cookies and wish I had a reason to buy them! I always stop by whenever I come to the island, and can't wait to be back soon!
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
Smallish, homey bakery along the main drag about a 10 minute walk off the ferry. We tried a chocolate croissant, a rhubarb scone, and some cookies. The cookies were very nicely decorated. Everything was fresh and tasted very nice. I'd say I liked the croissant the best but I wished it had more chocolate in it. There will probably be a line when you walk up. Don't be scared off. The workers inside keep the line moving and you probably won't wait in line more than 10 minutes.

Sharyn L.

Yelp
The pastries are amazing. Coffee was decent. Service was kind and fast. Great place for a yummy pastry
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Cute little bakery on Winslow. Highly recommend the downturner which is a croissant in the shape of almost-cupcake with this sugary glaze on top. Super buttery and delicious. I also got the lemon blueberry scone and chocolate walnut cookie. My only complaint is the downturner was stale. Same with scone, as it was ok but more on the dry side. The cookie was kinda expensive and didn't taste anything special. I would come back to try their infamous toast and jam!

Kaila F.

Yelp
Kicked my service dog out. Should have called the police on them. Extremely rude and unprofessional.
google avatar

Jody B.

Yelp
Just ordered iced tea and purchased this tumbler. I've popped in here before. Pastries are delicious. Great pit stop.
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Cute little bakery and coffee shop. Coffee tastes "okay." Some pastries are delicious, such as the lemon blueberry scone, but we were disappointed by the croissants, which were dry with little flavor. A bakery should make a great croissant. Service is friendly and efficient. I can see why locals like it, but we'll probably try other coffee options next time we are in town.
google avatar

Eunice C.

Yelp
I wish I lived in Seattle so I could take the ferry to Bainbridge just to eat breakfast here every morning. The line here can get long but moves quickly. Lots of yummy pastry options (we got the lemon blueberry scone, green onion and cheddar scone, and a savory croissant). The pastries were all so delicious, fresh and crumbly/flakey in the perfect way. Lots of outdoor seating which is great, and super friendly staff.
google avatar

Luisa M.

Yelp
The pastries are to die for! The service is always quick and friendly. I can grab a coffee on a 15 min break at work and be back with plenty of time.
google avatar

Louise F.

Yelp
I'd never had a mezzeluna before so when I saw an apple mezzeluna and asked what it was, then was told it was a hand pie, I knew i needed to try it. And then I got a rhubarb cream scone for the road too. The pie pastry was the perfect texture and the apple filling was 90% sweet and 10% tart and made for the perfect pie. The poor scone got smooshed in my bag and even after that it was still DELICIOUS when I ate it at the end of the day. It was so good I was almost shocked by how much I liked it.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
I travelled hundreds of miles for this toast. Came over five years ago and the fresh jam and toast still remains one of my favorite parts of Bain ridge island. I cannot recommend this establishment and this toast enough.
google avatar

Mandy A.

Yelp
This place is truly a 2 star bakery. It's a small business so I'm playing nice, unlike the female with a pixie(ish) cut. I could not hear the lady who was taking our order over the tall glass case. She was very frustrated with us due to her having to repeat her self. We should have walked out to the many other coffee/bakery shops on the island. Not worth anyone's time. We visit on July 25
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Food: - Poppy seed citrus loaf slice. The first bite was great, sweet and citrusy. After that though, it just got very very sweet from the icing on top, and dense enough it was hard to swallow. 2/5 - Apricot scone. Liked the crispy outsides of the scone, and the nice light sweetness of the apricot. It tasted very very granola, with not quite enough spice to make it more tasty. 3/5 I thought this was the place we liked the first time we swung around here, but this time didn't quite live up to the memory. Still a cute cafe, warm bustling atmosphere. Honestly, both items would've tasted much better toasted, but they were too busy to heat up. Understandable, but given that we were on the road (and hungry!) we had to eat it cold. They do sell full sized cakes, like tiramisu, which is good to note as celebrations come up. Will have to stop by again and hope the next selection is better!
google avatar

Lydia H.

Yelp
Stopped here to grab a little treat. The scones were delicious. I'll be stopping here again in the future.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Ordered a vanilla almond milk latte. Coffee was smooth and good. Employees were not very friendly, we were not greeted and when we thanked them for our order they couldn't care less. Most likely won't be back but one star for drink quality, one for fast service and one for accuracy of order.
google avatar

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
Adorable little bakery/coffee shop in downtown Bainbridge! Quick helpful service, delicious pastries! VERY busy, plan on ordering to-go! Recommend the leek and chèvre quiche and a French Roll!
google avatar

Katarina W.

Yelp
I've been going to this bakery for many many years. They have the most incredible Potato Quiche that is absolutely the best quiche that I've ever had. It has SO much flavor to it, it's way more well seasoned that any other quiche I've gotten anywhere else. Their scones and other pastries are all delicious as well, but the showstopper has to be that quiche. I drive from Bremerton to get some because it's just that good. The staff is always super kind and friendly, they always are busy when I go, and they never let the frustration show. They are always so friendly and easy to work with. Love supporting this business.
google avatar

Jboogie L.

Yelp
Evergreen Chai $5. It was abundantly sweet and not worth it in my opinion. I need something like Pip's!
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
When you visit Bainbridge Island, this small bakery is certainly worth the stop for some scrumptious baked goods, espresso, teas, soups, quiche, and homemade granola. I picked up an apricot and oatmeal scone and an Americano. The scone was terrific. I never had a scone with apricot and I was quite pleased with this one. Another words, it tasted great, and the oatmeal too was very nice. I added a little butter to the warm scone and boy, was that good. Great scone. My friend had the Lemon Blue Berry Scone and he loved it. The young ladies at counter were very nice and helpful when explaining all the wonderful baked goods in the counter.
google avatar

Aasawari N.

Yelp
I'm not sure if the savoury goods or breakfast food here is that worth it. I had a vegetarian quiche here (two different kinds) which I felt lacked flavour and took FOREVER to warm up for us. Might be good for a quick coffee/drink only. The location is really great as it's right across the bookstore and part of the main street of stores and restaurants that you see when you take the ferry into Bainbridge Island from Seattle etc.
google avatar

Devin H.

Yelp
Here is what you're going to do: You'll take the Seattle-Bainbridge Ferry by foot, bike, or car. You'll go early in the morning (the 8:45am ferry at the latest). You'll then walk, bike, or ride the few minutes to this bakery. GF, V options are also to die for. You'll finish up around 10am, and then head back to the city. You'll tell your manager you hit traffic coming into town, and your sorry your late for work. 100% worth any effort to get over here. Just make sure to come early.
google avatar

Willy M.

Yelp
Was on Bainbridge Island for the day, so after we got off the ferry, we decided to come here for a coffee and some breakfast. It's located on the main stretch of the city center area on Winslow Way. We got there earlier in the morning so it wasn't very busy, only a few people in line. Had a decent amount of selections to choose from, we decided to try a Savory Croissant, Chedder & Chive Scone and a Lemon Blueberry Scone. All looked good enough to eat! The savory ones were just ok with me, a little dry, not super flavor burst, it was ok overall. The sweet scone was ok as well, not overly sugary with the glaze, I liked that the best from our selections. All were pretty good sized and filled us up. Ordered a few coffees/lattes, takes a few extra minutes to make, they make you stand outside on the sidewalk and they will bring them out and yell out your name and put it on the outside table. BINGO, my name was called and we waited like 5 mins outside. Prices were fine in my book, staff was friendly with morning greetings and worked hard to get your order together to move you down the line. There's public tables, seating outside to enjoy your breakfast. There's also a walk up window around the corner from the entrance to order as well. Glad we came by to check it out as it was on our radar....may come by again if back on Bainbridge Island.
google avatar

Nadia B.

Yelp
We got some lemonade and baked goods from Blackbird today and it all tasted phenomenal! We took our treats to go, and were in and out in about 5 minutes! Staff was friendly and the space was sweet, even though we didn't linger there.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Iced Caramel latte $3.95 4.5/5 Banana walnut bread $3 5/5 Had to get some coffee after a good breakfast. I no longer can drink caramel macchiatos from Starbucks after finding different coffee shops that make it perfect. The caramel latte at Blackbird Bakery was also very satisfying and did not disappoint. The banana walnut bread was AMAZING, it had the perfect balance of banana and cinnamon with walnuts making the texture enjoyable! Baristas were very helpful in explaining the menu and bakery goods to find exactly what I wanted! Might be a little tricky finding parking but there are angle parking spots along the sides of the roads that are free! They dont offer a bathroom but the plaza itself has a public bathroom!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little bakery on Bainbridge. Definitely come here early because they close early. Get something to go if you need to. I was here around 12:30 on a weekday and I thought their selection was a little sparse.... the only thing that called out to me was the Spinach Quiche and a Chocolate Mousse Cake. They heated up the quiche and it was delicious and definitely recommend. The Chocolate cake was just OK - the mousse on the inside was good but the cake was not very moist. I wish they had more options for me to choose from....maybe next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Perhaps a half a cup of granola for nine+ dollars was not impressive, but it was good. Nice selection and environment . Outdoor seating available.

Yelp
A must when in bainbridge! Literally the first stop I make when I come over via ferry from Seattle. Love all the baked goodies in the case and over the years, I've tried quite a few different offerings. Can't think of any that weren't tasty. The downtowner was so flakey and gooey - basically a rolled up croissant with cinnamon sugar. Their cinnamon roll is to die foe with the most perfect cream cheese frosting. Their quiche could have been a little more firm as there was quite a bit of moisture from the spinach but nothing I couldn't get over. Grab a yummy golden turmeric latte if you're sick of coffee drinks and you won't regret the combination of all the delish pastries with your golden latte!
