The 15 Best Restaurants & Bars On Bainbridge Island - Seattle - The Infatuation

"There are quite a few boutique bakeshops on the island, but the first one you need to know about is Blackbird. This is where to go for a solid breakfast or snack to go with a latte. Even if the person in front of you sends you into a hot rage by claiming the last two slices of almond butter layer cake, there are many other delicious things to be had here—mainly Helen’s French Roll, which is the minimalist-chic cousin to coffee cake and one of the best pastries in the Puget Sound area. The lemon-glazed blueberry scone is also a non-negotiable." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Google
I would not recommend this for the drinks or food. I ordered to-go except the cinnamon roll, my coffee came in a mug. My coffee wasn’t hot. I orders a white chocolate mocha. So I sat outside to drink it. It tasted funny, or off, and when I got to the bottom I saw why - the chocolate hadn’t been mixed or melted. The cinnamon roll was cream cheese frosting, which I hate so I don’t care for it. But it also had RAISINS in it. Ugh! That should’ve been said somewhere in the description of them. Overall, this was very overpriced, the coffee wasn’t hot a big let down. If it weren’t so busy I would’ve given it back and got a refund or asked for the coffee to be re-made. Honestly it was gross. And I REALLY wanted to like it because I’d heard good things about this place. I would skip and go elsewhere if I return.

Google
This bakery is so cozy, but they are a machine in the best way. Being right next to the ferry, you can tell they train their staff for busy days, even on weekdays. I went on a Thursday for my birthday and the line was out the door, and yet I was helped in 5 minutes. I was so impressed and the staff still had individual reactions with everyone. Remember all of our specifications for our coffees too, even among all the bustle of the crowd. The pastries were absolutely delicious and the coffee was great. We left with an adorable tumbler too!

Google
Great food overall and nice atmosphere, scones are nice and savory, the cheesecake really surprised me as being a really good mix of not to sweet and also very filling, I personally found the cinnamon roll too sweet but my partner liked it. We paid 35$ for 2 scones, 1 cheesecake slice, 1 roll, 2 coffees and 1 oat milk for our little one which I feel is a very good price.

Google
No crumbs left because it was. That. Good. Someone left a review about there being amazing toast here and thank god they did. Best toast I’ve ever had. Also had a blackberry orange scone, espresso, and coffee. All were great. My life was empty before this toast. Got the whole wheat with pb, the toast comes out buttered. Honestly could’ve eaten the toast without the pb and been so happy. 103820/10. Left with a loaf.

Google
Blackbird Bakery created all of the baked goods for our dessert bar at our wedding - they helped us determine quantities, sizes of platters we would need to rent, and were able to deliver to the venue. I have celiac disease and Heidi, the owner, was very clear that they are not a dedicated gluten free facility. She talked me through their cross-contamination prevention protocols, they have dedicated prep space, kitchen utensils, mixing bowls, etc. I appreciated the thoughtful warning, and as I have eaten there many, many times without getting sick, I felt safe ordering for our wedding. We were able to have a delicious selection of pies, their famous Italian cream cake, cookies, and cupcakes - including some non-gluten free vegan cupcakes for our vegan guests. We were able to go in for a "tasting" of sorts and look through their wedding book of previous events - where we had some cookies and a mezzaluna so I could taste their GF pie crust. If you have a chance, I highly recommend ordering an Italian cream cake or GF pie custom - it will blow your mind! Thank you again Heidi and the Blackbird Team!

Google
This was the best chocolate cream / French Silk Pie I’ve had in years. It he shop is kind of a tight space with the line, but we found seats to enjoy our snacks. Definitely worth a visit if you are on the island.

Google
Got here on a rainy morning, so have to get coffee and twas good! The chocolate applesauce cake is delish, moist and chocolatey🙂

Google
Crazy busy, constantly, a great problem for them to have…not so pleasant for someone like me who doesn’t enjoy being around crowds. However, the employees are efficient and friendly, and the wait wasn’t too insane. The cranberry elixer was the perfect hot drink to warm up this afternoon: steamed unsweetened cranberry juice, apple cider, herbal tea, and loads of ginger. It was warm and spicy, so comforting.

Yelp
So happy I chose this bakery for my first visit to the island because it was everything I thought it would be, comfy, small window into the idyllic island slice of life, and their thick slice toast WAS indeed delightfully delicious and I got to enjoy it at their cute bay window spot looking out on a perfectly sunny day. With a cup of refreshing iced latte. That was actually good espresso and well made. I love fishing and they had the cutest, most intricate trout sugar cookies that day. Yes I attempted to bring it back in one piece and it kinda survived. I really wished I got one of their store memorabilia shirts or something! The servers were all super nice and friendly despite clearly the crazy morning rush and long line of tourists (myself included).

Yelp
Came here to pass some time while waiting for the ferry. My partner wanted me to try their toast and jam which was indeed tasty and filling. The rest of their baked goods didn't seem as golden or flaky as pastry shops I normally like to visit (it was more American style than European). Their potato and kale soup looked and smelled delicious, and was $7 for a solid bowlful. Their half price pecan pie was $21, which is alright but it does mean that full price, they sell a relatively ordinary looking pie for $42 which seems quite hefty before tax. They only have 5 tables; two are full booths and one is half a booth and half chairs. Two of their tables have chairs that seat 4 each. There's a bit of counter eating space. But definitely not a lot.

Yelp
A beloved island bakery and I see why. It's charming, inviting, and provides a variety of traditional and more experimental bakery delights. The staff is always kind. I really like the freshly baked wheat loaf, the chocolate mousse, and their soups. I especially enjoyed the spicy peanut stew earlier this year. The quiche, with its beautifully smooth custard and well-seasoned spinach, is excellent. The cakes are beautiful, I love admiring them. They are very expensive, as is turning bread into toast, which adds a significant up charge. I also love their charming array of cookies for each holiday.

Yelp
Small comfy beverage and dessert place right in the heart of Winslow street. The customer service is great. Got the eggnog chai latte and the americano. Plus the highly rated french roll and the green onion savory scone. Everything was true to perfection. I would definitely be going again!

Yelp
A cute bakery to enjoy a sweet or savory treat (or few) with a delicious hot chocolate or coffee. Stopped in with a group of 4 while being tourists on Bainbridge Island and had a lovely experience ordering and enjoying our treats. A crowd favorite is the Walla Walla roll and we can all see why. A few things to keep in mind - there can be a line but all staff work hard to keep things moving. The space is on the smaller side so things can feel a little tight between the seating and ordering line. Overall enjoyed our experience and recommend checking them out!
google avatar

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Got a slice of the carrot cake. Appreciate that the slices are big. The cake was on the denser side and not dry at all. It had a ton of filling like carrots and raisins which impressed me. The frosting was good but I wish it was more cream cheesey. Overall I enjoyed it but i did want something sweeter Staff were friendly and nice place to sit and have a treat!

Yelp
We took the ferry today to see Bainbridge. We walked to see the Troll "Pia the Peacemaker" then walked back into town and found Blackbird Bakery. I ordered my usual oat milk latte with 4 shots. And we ordered an oatmeal cookie and a slice of vegan chocolate applesauce cake. I wanted to purchase a loaf of their oatmeal whole wheat bread, but the person ahead of me bought the last loaf! One of the lovely things about this place is their art collection of watercolors by an artist who studies birds. They were fantastic. We try to find vegan options... the oatmeal was not vegan but usually it is pretty healthy. This cookie had a lot of sugar taste... too sweet for us. The chocolate cake was moist and just sweet enough! Not my favorite latte but I think it was just not my favorite expresso taste (this is subject to personal preference). There is a smoothness I've come to enjoy and so I look for it when traveling as compared to my local coffee shop in South Carolina.

Yelp
Visiting downtown Bainbridge for the day and as the rain really started to come down, I had the craving for a good chai latte. It was closer to closing time so there wasn't a lot of pastry options left, which is a good sign. Their menu has traditional coffee and tea options and I went with their Spicy Ginger chai latte. I was hesitant about the ginger but it tasted so good. Cute shop, no thrills. The staff were really pleasant. I'd come back at an earlier time to check out the bakery options!

Yelp
I have been going to Blackbird Bakery for years, and I am always happy. I usually get tea and toast with jam and sit at the counter looking out and people watching. The toast is thick and buttered just right, the jam tastes homemade, the tea selection is great, and the staff are helpful. An awesome atmosphere any time of year.

Amy C.

Yelp
The four of us had a cinnamon roll, apple fritter, scones and quiche. 5 stars to the treats 4 to the quiche! We will for sure be back!

Yelp
Cute little bakery, mostly cookies left after 2. Quick service and very organized. The prices seemed a little high, $10 for 3 cookies. But they were cute

Kathy

Yelp
Best decaf latte on the island. Attentive staff Excellent bakery goods, fond of the vegan chocolate applesauce cake. Interesting art exhibits

Yelp
Went to Blackbird for my first time yesterday. I had the best raspberry mocha latte I've ever had in my life! I also had a cheddar and green onion scone, which was delicious! I will definitely be going back here the next time--and any time--we are on the island!

Yelp
There are a few large booths inside that are comfortable to sit at to enjoy their pastries and coffee. It looked like there were seats outside, too. They provide ice cold water on the side that customers can serve themselves. The staff is very friendly, stopping to provide help when asked. They have pretty handmade macraweave wall hangings for sale that double as decor. I got the apricot scone, cherry mezzeluna, triple chocolate super chunk, and pride rainbow cookie to share with the kids. All were yummy, but the apricot scone was more grainy and wheaty than the kids liked.

Yelp
I found this cute bakery in the downtown area of Bainbridge Island. The sweet aroma of pastries fills your nose as you walk in and the people working there are so warm and friendly. I immediately eyed the giant cinnamon roll ($6) the size of my head and knew I wanted it immediately. I took my first bite and it was unfortunately super dry. I typically like a moist cinnamon roll with the delicious cinnamon filling inside, but this was not it. The bread was just dry with a hint of cinnamon flavor. The icing saved the dish in my opinion. The sweet delicious flavors were just perfect. My boyfriend ordered a banana walnut slice ($5.10), which was super delicious and the perfect amount of sweetness, and a 8oz ginger chai latte ($5.05), which he thoroughly enjoyed. They have plenty of other delicious baked goods in this place, but I would recommend skipping the cinnamon roll.
google avatar

Nolan F.

Yelp
Orange Roll with cranberry sauce inside was divine. So soft and perfect for sweet tooths. Cappuccino was unfortunately bitter. No issues with service. There's a few spots for seating so you're more likely to order to-go.
google avatar

Tia P.

Yelp
Came here after so many recommendations and it definitely lived up to the hype! The strawberry rhubarb pie was perfectly sweet and tart, I just wish the slice was larger for $6.30. My latte was delicious and was perfectly sweet, not too much syrup or ice. Service was great as well, the lady taking my order was very kind with helping me pick a bakery item since it was my first time.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
It's a pretty busy bakery with cafe seating and long lines but the baked goods are pretty good here! Also reasonably priced! Service is quick and efficient. I got the peach tea scone with vanilla glaze and it was so yummy! Would love to come back to try their toast or some of their other items!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by while shopping Winslow; I just wanted a bite something sweet but not too. And, not chocolate. We had already stopped and got chocolates to go a few doors down. We got a couple of pastries and coffee sat and rested a bit! Wonder experience from the first step inside. The staff were working like a team of friends and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming! Simply delicious.
google avatar

Claudia E.

Yelp
The caramel latte and their baked goods were soooo good. The coffee had rich dark notes and the pastry (lemon poppyseed) was fresh and had a light sweet frosting that complimented it perfectly. As I was walked downtown, a group of people asked where I grabbed my coffee from based on the aroma of the coffee alone alone. Friendly staff that provided good recommendations.
google avatar

Karolina N.

Yelp
Good pastries, meh coffee. They have a few tables to sit inside which is great. Great location in Bainbridge!
google avatar

Melody D.

Yelp
Walked by to take a little look see before we ate pizza next door, at around 11:28am, and there was a line out the door! We decided to come by after lunch. No line about an hour later, but the place was still buzzing with people at the tables. So many delicious cakes and pastries to choose from, but after a filling lunch we decided on the Italian Sweet Cream cake. I don't normally enjoy nuts and this cake had almond slices, but it went well with the cake! Loved the frosting too! It was nice and light, definitely sweet cream. It was $9 and some change and worth it!

Brenn R.

Yelp
A beautiful bakery bustling with patrons, Blackbird appeared the place to be in Bainbridge. I got a scrumptious little cheese pastry that was absolutely fabulous out of all the amazing options they had on display in their cases. You definitely want tohead here first off the ferry if you plan to visit, as it was indeed quite popular and had a line stretching well outside the door when we first passed it. The line was shorter when we went back and everyone working did a wonderful job of getting everyone's orders placed and then delivered. It was a little crowded inside with, but if the crowd there ever dies down (or before the crowd really starts) it looks like it would be a nice and cozy place to enjoy yourself while you enjoy their baked goods.
google avatar

Jesse R.

Yelp
Came across this bakery during our visit at bainbridge. They had a few things to choose from and we decided to get the snickerdoodle cookies, chocolate cookie and the lemon poppy muffin (I think). Although we are not gluten free, the snickerdoodle cookie was a hit for us. Think but soft. The service was pretty good and the ambiance was of a cute coffee shop.
google avatar

Gabriella V.

Yelp
It's small, but cozy. Everything looks delicious and everything I ordered was fantastic. Nothing is over the top sweet and everything has a good balance. The coffee was fantastic! The lovely people at the counter were very helpful and kind.
google avatar

Yelp
We saw this cute bakery on a recent weekend, daytrip to Bainbridge, and we had to drop-in (as we love a good pastry). Unfortunately, by the time of our visit around 1:00pm, the selection was very limited - and staff seemed "over it." We tried to be understanding, as the lines were long - and we assumed they had been all day. Still, it made the experience less enjoyable - especially after waiting in the before mentioned long line. We hurried to order a slice of chocolate cake and a slice of pie. When we ate them later, both were pretty tasty - especially the crust on the pie - which was special. I think this is a spot I would have loved under different circumstances - less people, more selection, friendlier staff, and available seating. Maybe we'll try to visit during the week - versus the weekend - next time. Pro-Tip: While the bakery has limited seating, there are lovely, public seating options throughout the downtown corridor.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
This is a must go to bakery before the big crowds hit it. They have delicious baked goods and a tumeric chai drink thats so food! Not a lot of seating but well worth it to grab something to go!
google avatar

Arya N.

Yelp
I stopped by on a Saturday morning. The line was out the door and it took 20-25 minutes to make it to the front. There was a large assortment of baked goods. I opted to try the banana walnut bread and lemon blueberry scone. I liked the texture of the banana walnut bread and thought it was tasty. Both items however were a bit too sweet in my opinion. Service was friendly and welcoming. There are some tables inside but plenty of space outside to sit.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Quick service, good iced coffees, and so many pastries to pick from! Even with a long line, it moved so quickly. A lot of options for cakes. Reasonably priced pastries and the best on bainbridge island. Lemon blueberry scone was the best texture and not too sweet, perfectly frosted. Tons of outdoor covered seating and a few seats indoors.
google avatar

Charles K.

Yelp
Neat little shop. Clean restrooms. Good sweets. Fast and friendly service. Souvenirs available.
google avatar

Martin F.

Yelp
Food was wonderful. Two lemon covered blueberry scones for us. Counter service was welcoming and efficient. A real neighborhood bakery. Lots of locals. Kids and old people welcome.
google avatar

Madeleine F.

Yelp
There's usually a line when the Ferries from Seattle arrive, but it's worth it the food is very good. Go early because they do sell out of items in my experience. The Morning Glory muffin is my go-to when I want something a little more savory. There are tables nearby.
google avatar

Julie V.

Yelp
Their ginger chai is probably my favorite chai I've had and I will miss it eternally since I'm in Texas
google avatar

Leilani Q.

Yelp
Toast, toast, TOAST!! Grab the toast, it is so good. I tried a different pastry the previous time I visited and the toast is just the best thing I've had so far! Whole wheat oatmeal toast with butter and jam: amazing texture of crunchy well toasted bread with a nice chew, butter and jam were delicious also!
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Came around 3:30 on a Sunday. Very cloudy outside so I wanted a nice hot drink. My friends and I got three hot cocoas and it was delicious (more milky than chocolate tho). There were a lot of yummy baked goods options and the toast was delicious thick and buttery. Good price too! Service was fast and friendly and I loved the cute vibes. Cute blackbird merchandise like the tumbler :)
google avatar

Pratima M.

Yelp
A small but busy bakery located right in the heart of Bainbridge, about a ~10 minute walk from the ferry -- you can expect it to be pretty busy for the whole morning, especially after a ferry gets in! It's a touristy spot, and they have some tables and chairs inside. I got a lemon-blueberry scone and it was FIRE -- it was so flavorful and a hefty scone. I was obsessed with their cakes and cookies and wish I had a reason to buy them! I always stop by whenever I come to the island, and can't wait to be back soon!
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
Smallish, homey bakery along the main drag about a 10 minute walk off the ferry. We tried a chocolate croissant, a rhubarb scone, and some cookies. The cookies were very nicely decorated. Everything was fresh and tasted very nice. I'd say I liked the croissant the best but I wished it had more chocolate in it. There will probably be a line when you walk up. Don't be scared off. The workers inside keep the line moving and you probably won't wait in line more than 10 minutes.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
This establishment has long been a favorite of my parents but I haven't latched onto to fascination myself. They will serve you a great thick slice of warm bread with butter. The pastries are popular with regulars but not the traditional pastries I yearn for at breakfast time. They don't have French pastries. They dont have donuts. The location is small and can get busy as the line fills most of the indoor space. Is very cozy on winter day along the windows. The staff are friendly and will get you a fresh slice of bread or a coffee, but I'm not going to become a regular.

Sarah A.

Yelp
The iced vanilla latte was so rich flavorful, the perfect amount of sweetness! I ordered the toast with jam because it said "buttery" and I was not disappointed. I ordered to go and melted butter had pooled at the bottom (a good thing!!!). This was the whole wheat bread and it was so good I could've eaten the whole thing without the jam, but the jam made it even more delicious.
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Cute little bakery on Winslow. Highly recommend the downturner which is a croissant in the shape of almost-cupcake with this sugary glaze on top. Super buttery and delicious. I also got the lemon blueberry scone and chocolate walnut cookie. My only complaint is the downturner was stale. Same with scone, as it was ok but more on the dry side. The cookie was kinda expensive and didn't taste anything special. I would come back to try their infamous toast and jam!

Kaila F.

Yelp
Kicked my service dog out. Should have called the police on them. Extremely rude and unprofessional.
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Cute little bakery and coffee shop. Coffee tastes "okay." Some pastries are delicious, such as the lemon blueberry scone, but we were disappointed by the croissants, which were dry with little flavor. A bakery should make a great croissant. Service is friendly and efficient. I can see why locals like it, but we'll probably try other coffee options next time we are in town.
google avatar

Louise F.

Yelp
I'd never had a mezzeluna before so when I saw an apple mezzeluna and asked what it was, then was told it was a hand pie, I knew i needed to try it. And then I got a rhubarb cream scone for the road too. The pie pastry was the perfect texture and the apple filling was 90% sweet and 10% tart and made for the perfect pie. The poor scone got smooshed in my bag and even after that it was still DELICIOUS when I ate it at the end of the day. It was so good I was almost shocked by how much I liked it.
google avatar

Jody B.

Yelp
Just ordered iced tea and purchased this tumbler. I've popped in here before. Pastries are delicious. Great pit stop.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
I travelled hundreds of miles for this toast. Came over five years ago and the fresh jam and toast still remains one of my favorite parts of Bain ridge island. I cannot recommend this establishment and this toast enough.

Sharyn L.

Yelp
The pastries are amazing. Coffee was decent. Service was kind and fast. Great place for a yummy pastry
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
When you visit Bainbridge Island, this small bakery is certainly worth the stop for some scrumptious baked goods, espresso, teas, soups, quiche, and homemade granola. I picked up an apricot and oatmeal scone and an Americano. The scone was terrific. I never had a scone with apricot and I was quite pleased with this one. Another words, it tasted great, and the oatmeal too was very nice. I added a little butter to the warm scone and boy, was that good. Great scone. My friend had the Lemon Blue Berry Scone and he loved it. The young ladies at counter were very nice and helpful when explaining all the wonderful baked goods in the counter.
google avatar

Luisa M.

Yelp
The pastries are to die for! The service is always quick and friendly. I can grab a coffee on a 15 min break at work and be back with plenty of time.

Yelp
I've been going to this bakery for many many years. They have the most incredible Potato Quiche that is absolutely the best quiche that I've ever had. It has SO much flavor to it, it's way more well seasoned that any other quiche I've gotten anywhere else. Their scones and other pastries are all delicious as well, but the showstopper has to be that quiche. I drive from Bremerton to get some because it's just that good. The staff is always super kind and friendly, they always are busy when I go, and they never let the frustration show. They are always so friendly and easy to work with. Love supporting this business.
