Google
This place changed my mind about donuts. I have only ever thought they are okay until I tried Blackbird. I've only been here twice but I loved it. We were surprised to discover later that the first two donuts we got were vegan. I've had great vegan food before but desserts are often lacking. Not so with these donuts. The lemon glazed donut was so tart and perfect. We also loved the chocolate mousse bismark. Of course not every flavor is mind blowing but the overall quality really is phenomenal. I love the variety of flavors and that these pastries are not way too sweet like most typical donuts I have had. It's pricey, so take your time choosing.

Google
As a donut conneiseur who's tried my fair share of pastries, this shop lives up to the hype! At $42/dozen it should! However the price point is actually reflected in the taste and that is something I have found lacking in some hyped up places (Kanes which was so disappointing). I can't even say I had a favorite for what we tried: cannoli, tiramisu, eggnog, jelly filled and Boston cream. If you twisted my arm I may say eggnog! The Boston cream was definitely the best of it's kind I've ever had. If you're looking for the best donut shop in Boston this is it. This particular location is a bit small and offers no indoor seating just fyi.

Google
I didn’t even like donuts until I tried the Boston cream donut from Blackbird. Now I randomly crave donuts at 8 pm when they’ve already closed and I have to (impatiently) wait until the next morning. Anyway - these are the best, softest donuts I’ve ever had and you have to try them too. Plus the staff is super friendly and the coffee is great!

Google
Good donuts but hardly worth the price tag. Got a half dozen donuts including ice cream cake, Boston cream, black bird, and mango swirl. I liked how they didn't put too much sugar for their fillings, but overall the doughnuts weren't phenomenal as some people described. The doughs for the regular donuts (not brioche) were chewy and less greasy which made them taste healthy, but I wasn't a huge fan.

Dondré

Google
Very small donut shop with great service. This is a to go shop, basically pickup only. There is no sitting room, I got my stuff for take out and went and sat in a park. Balckbird doughnuts has a really good donut selection, I went with the banana fosters and it was good.

Google
Five stars for this doughnut. I've probably had better doughnuts in general, but this particular Donnie is everything! It's sweet and savory and has all the things I love. Hmm maybe I'm not really into sweets, actually I usually like hot sauce on this one. But honestly, everyone should have a doughnut they love and this one's mine. Generally thier flavors are really good, especially the filled ones. I prefer their yeast doughnuts.

Moochi & Poodi

Google
Perhaps one of the most creative donut I had. Besides the everything bagel donut, of which surprised me with its savory filling; the rice pudding donut, filled w classic rice pudding seasoned w cinnamon combined the best of 2 desserts. The donut itself is super pillow-y with ice/filling with just the right amount of sweetness. I regret only getting 6!!

Google
I used to defend Blackbird as good even if they weren’t my favorite donut in town, but no more. I had a maple braid a few days ago, and it was even less maple flavored than Dunks (let alone other places with a comparable price point). Add on an unremarkable texture with a bit too much grease and it’s 1 star for the price for me. I give them a second star for trying some innovative flavors, but I’m not eager to go back.

Yelp
My sister picked up a couple doughnuts to share. Our group of four foodies all enjoyed them. They have a doughnut of the day that is half priced (and not well advertised!) so definitely worth considering that option! We tried the lemon coconut and the winter citrus. I don't normally like coconut but I really enjoyed the lemon doughnut!

Yelp
Item(s) ordered: 6 donuts--toffee, S'mores, chocolate sprinkle, everything bagel, blackbird, raspberry-coconut The review: Came back to my favorite spot, Blackbird Doughnuts. We bought 6 for my coworker's going-away brunch (hence the various toothpicks in the photo with "good luck" in different languages). These donuts are fresh and delicious with interesting flavors that cater to vegans as well. The servers are kind, the place is a cute counter-serve. Love Blackbird!

Yelp
So back in December 2023, I stopped a couple of weeks ago for a treat. From their rotating menu, I bought two donuts, a coffee glazed oreo which was very good and a more traditional Boston cream. I had the glazed oreo with coffee at work that day, I did not try their coffee yet...it was good, a little messy to eat but very nice coffee/choc. combo flavor. Saved the Boston cream for home/next day and I felt the texture/dough was a little heavy but the cream and the chocolate were nice. They are expensive, about $4 a donut, but the shop is bright and cheerful and the two staffers were friendly when I asked if they were playing the sound track to Pitch Perfect/film & they were -- it was just a fun, positive way to start out the day.

Yelp
I love the variety of unusual donuts. Very delicious. The staff was very friendly. I wish I had taken pictures before we ate them!

Yelp
This is my favorite donut in Boston!! The donuts are super light and fluffy, with a bunch of fun and exciting flavors to try out. This location is pretty small without any seating, but there is a small bench outside if you just want a quick place to stop and scarf down your donut. There's a cute display case inside where all of the available flavors are displayed. I love the little letter beads spelling out the types donut. I had the matcha strawberry crumble, chocolate/vanilla ice cream donut, and the triple chocolate. They were all so good but my favorite was probably the chocolate/vanilla ice cream donut, which had crumbled wafer cone bits on it. The donuts were still light and fluffy, even at the end of the day. This is a fun donut spot to grab a snack, and I'm looking forward to seeing their new flavors next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
At least think about the packaging for an expensive donut - removing a star for that. Otherwise donuts are good here. Glad I declined the $2 tip request.
google avatar

Marissa E.

Yelp
Truthfully I prefer donut holes to full sized donuts, but I will make an exception for this place. These are the softest donuts and the flavors are amazing. The chocolate donut is very rich. The purple cow and the chocolate glaze were to die for. I don't usually like stuffed donuts but even the s'more donut was so good. I've had these once at the office and once directly from the store and can't complain. I also had a cold brew coffee which hit the spot. I much prefer this to other donut places in Boston that were recommended to me. They loose a star for the priceiness of the donuts, fits a little hard to justify paying for one donut what you can get a dozen for at Dunkin, even if they are twice as good.
google avatar

Kaitie O.

Yelp
Perfectly light and airy doughnuts that melt in your mouth. The raspberry hibiscus mint tea special was such an inventive, balanced flavor that I really enjoyed. Side note: I also had a great conversation with their team after sharing a photo on Instagram from my experience and love to see the responsive, great customer service!

Yelp
I always say I don't like donuts, and that is until I go by/someone offers Blackbird! For the longest time I had just given up eating donuts because I felt that they really all tasted the same and weren't anything special. Blackbird changed my mind on that. In fact, now I often crave these donuts. I can't pick a favorite exactly because they're always changing but I have to say one that stuck out to me was the Jalapeño Cheddar donut. Loved it! Savory donuts are something I never see, so this one caught my curiosity and I am still thinking about it. Really great balance of flavors, just like the rest of them but again just so different and something you can't just find anywhere. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
The donuts here are extremely creative. My friends and I shared a box including flavors like Mango Mojito, BBQ Buttercreme, Marshmallow Coconut, and Ice Cream Cake. All of them were amazingly decadent, but not too much. Their flavors are constantly changing, so there's something new to try all the time. Some of the options are vegan, but I don't think any of them are gluten free. The prices are pretty high ($3.50+ per donut), so I would not consider this a "regular" spot, but it's a fun place I like to come back to when I'm in Boston.
google avatar

Kenya M.

Yelp
So. These donuts are great but suffer from "just give me a donut" reaction from me. Cuz I don't need special recipes. LOL. They are FANCY and made of a brioche dough. It reminds me of the cronut concoction that Dunkin had, but less sweet. The texture isn't donut texture!! But, it was a good pastry masquerading as a donut. The staff was very nice and patient with my dumb questions. The coffee was good. Still no sitting inside when i was there, but it's really a grab and go spot anyway.
google avatar

Vivian S.

Yelp
The best vegan fried (not cake) doughnut I've ever had! I got the simple jelly filled one, and though it wasn't warm, it was still soft and delicious! (Although I would recommend microwaving it or something just for a few seconds to get that warm fresh doughnut experience.) this was super messy to eat while walking, because there was so much jam! But I'm not complaining whatsoever. Would happily have a face full of jam smears to have this donut again. :) They also have a lemon coconut flavor which looked delicious, plus another flavor which I am forgetting. Definitely worth the visit especially for vegans!!!

Yelp
I love blackbird doughnuts. They are really creative with their flavors: my favorite is everything bagel donut, it's basically a fluffy yeast donut with everything bagel spice and cream cheese in between. it's hard to imagine a savory donut, but I loved it. I also tried their dark chocolate ginger: the ginger taste is not super strong, but I liked the fluffy donut. Somehow their fluffy donut (yeast raised dough) reminds me of an old fashioned donut when I was little, the taste is really unique and texture is kinda chewy. I loved them. Still need to try their cake donuts tho. Small store space, but they enforce limited capacity rule.
google avatar

Whit D.

Yelp
If you love donuts and are in the Boston area , please come here. They don't have ur average regular donuts ... they have fluffy; moist and awesome flavors you don't see everyday. I would call them a specialty donut shop. The hours are short ... I believe close at 3. The donuts are about $3.50 each but with tax $3.75 each. Worth it though. I wish they had some samples though so you could try more flavors.

Yelp
Arrived at the location at 9am on a Saturday. To our amazement, There were no lines! The Location was tight in spacing. There was a variety of different donuts and drink options. We got the apple fritter and the Boston cream. Both were fresh and delicious!

Sara S.

Yelp
First visit. Good place! Solid donuts and unique flavours you won't find at Dunkin. However, freshness on my visit was akin to Dunkin :( Will return to check out more of their extensive menu. Went on a Saturday morning when the line for Flour was out the door. Shocked that no other customers had drifted down into this shop. Many cute fall-themed donuts in addition to a big regular menu. Got the seasonal PSL Monkeybread for myself and Chocolate Mousse filled for fiancé. Were not served warm so had to be heated in microwave :( Monkeybread was surprisingly light -- both in texture and in flavour. Not noticeably pumpkin-spicy at all, nor sticky/gooey like typical monkey bread. However, the lightness of it makes it better for a brioche on the go than a dessert that will weigh you down. By any other name I would have liked it! Fiancé said Chocolate Mousse outer pastry was bland/dry (we later found out it was vegan) but inside was generously filled with bittersweet chocolate and reorderable. Cold brew to go with the donuts a must, not too sour. Will be going again to try out more of the unique flavours and cute designs!
google avatar

Jean H.

Yelp
Possibly my favorite donuts (disclaimer: not a connoisseur of donuts). The dough is a little denser than your regular donut. They have a variety of some unique flavors. These donuts are a little pricier, $3.50 each. But I think it's worth it for the occasional treat. My go-to is still the Boston creme, such a classic.
google avatar

Marli M.

Yelp
Not sure it lived up to the hype but overall good experience! The place is small with no seating but is a good set up for grab and go. Also it's very cute, loved the vibe and display! I wish there would have been a description of the donuts available but the staff was super friendly and helped me with my questions. We ended up with a red velvet, chocolate glazed cake, and the brownie batter. We weren't super impressed with the cake donuts, more cake like than I'm used to. Super moist but not a ton of flavor. The brownie batter donut with raspberry glaze was the star. The raspberry glaze was so fresh and flavorful and the filling well it tasted just like brownie batter and there was plenty of it! We didn't order drinks here but hopefully next time we are in town we can try more things!
google avatar

Yelp
Super disappointing, Seasonal flavors gone, the doughnut I did get - pumpkin seems stale, threw it away after one bite, coffee was meh. I was so looking forward to this and i honestly it was not worth the effort.
google avatar

Vivian C.

Yelp
Delicious donut snack to carry us over into lunch. Sad there is No seating area. Went to the whole foods behind the shop to sit down and enjoy our snackie snacks

Roger W.

Yelp
Perhaps three stars but for the premium prices. Tasteless and tough would be my assessment of the doughnuts. I decided to give them a second chance after the burned apple fritter a few months ago, and had a lemon coconut and a Boston cream. The lemon coconut tasted of neither lemons nor coconut (how do you get no lemon flavor at all?), and the crème pat in the Boston cream was just boring. A little vanilla would have helped a lot. The dough in both doughnuts was tough, as if they used bread flour. At these prices one can do much better!
google avatar

Alora N.

Yelp
Unfortunately I just didn't like the donuts there. We got birthday cake and Boston crème and they were just to heavy and to sugary maybe.
google avatar

Britney B.

Yelp
Was in town visiting Boston for the first time so I had to make sure I got a donut from here before I left. There were so many unique flavors and options, it was definitely hard trying to pick one. I decided to go with the Everything Bagel donut and I loved it! I usually don't like anything overwhelmingly sweet, but this donut was perfect. The donut had a plain bagel base with everything bagel spice, and there was a cream cheese filling in the middle which was super yummy! I walked since this place was walking distance from my hotel, but there is a lot of street parking nearby for those who are further.
google avatar

Marissa G.

Yelp
Doughnuts at Blackbird were very very good but not outstanding. The Boston Crème donut tasted like any other donut. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious but didn't have a twist or anything additional to take it to another level. I didn't care much for the Toffee Donut but that's also because toffee isn't a flavor I enjoy. I still appreciate the donut was moist and glazed nicely. My boyfriend wanted to try that one. The jelly donut was my absolute favorite. The filling is very fresh, the donut was soft, light and airy. It was powdered nicely, not too much and not too little. If it was up to my recommendation I would definitely order the Jelly. I ordered a hot chocolate that was also very good and creamy. We were looking for a double chocolate one we saw on the instagram page but be aware that all the locations have different donuts! Check with the store before going!
google avatar

Masha S.

Yelp
Small shop with what I'd call "specialty" doughnuts. You may have to pay a little more than you'd like but could find a great doughnut+coffee combo that will keep you coming back. I also tried their everything doughnut, which I did a full review on here: https://youtu.be/0n7uhYy4STg
google avatar

Al R.

Yelp
Overall Blackbird Doughnuts is good and that is why I am giving them 3 stars. Their doughnuts do not have as much flavor as other chains, but I think it is because they use better ingrediants and their doughnuts are not filled with chemicals. I know doughnuts are not healthy, but they have to be a little better than other brands. My main complaint is the price. Doughnuts cost $3.50 each. I get it, Quality ingrediants cost more, but $21 for 6 doughnuts is a little crazy.
google avatar

Della S.

Yelp
A decent number of vegan options and even a savory option ("everything" bagel donut)! They also have many coffee/tea options with different sizes as well as ice cream sandwiches. I tried their vegan donut with pomegranate glaze. The glaze was quite thin so the donut was not too sweet. I would not have been able to tell that the donut was vegan. Online ordering is available so you don't have to wait too long in line. The interior is pretty small (it's basically just a counter) so they limit the number of people who can be inside at a time. The employees are very cheerful and friendly here. I had some trouble swiping my card so the cashier helped and offered to sanitize my card for me afterwards.
google avatar

Eileen C.

Yelp
Come for the doughnuts but stay did the iced rooibos latte. Wow that rooibos is very flavorful and deep, really nice smoky flavor especially with oat milk!! The doughnuts are interesting. Overpriced, yes? Solid, yea! I thought the Boston cream was really good! Usually Boston cream doughnuts are too heavy (like the one from Dunkin makes me want to puke). The cream in this one is light and fresh so I enjoyed it! The apricot doughnut that is on the rotating menu is quite good as well! One complaint I have is that the hours here are really short. You can only really go during work hours during the day.

James T.

Yelp
Really disappointing donuts. They were chewy and a bad consistency. I don't know how you screw up a plain glazed donut. We ended up throwing away the rest because they weren't worth the calories.
google avatar

Vinny A.

Yelp
Blackbird Doughnuts finally has vegan options!! Rejoice! Blackbird is a local artisan donut staple in Boston and I'm so happy to be able to swing by for their rotating vegan donuts!! This time I grabbed the passionfruit donut which was delicious and I always pair it with their cold brew which is a beautiful blend!
google avatar

Helen L.

Yelp
Got some Blackbird donuts for a picnic the other day. It's great they have vegan options now and the three we got were tasty (mixed berry jam, sprinkle, and coconut). Not the best vegan donuts I've had, but they were pretty good.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
Blackbird donuts provided tasty treats. While the flavors were amazing, they had unique textures that were new to me.
google avatar

Kay A.

Yelp
Talking Points: Customer Service / Doughnuts / Tips I stopped by on National Donut Day - mind you, arguably the busiest day of the year for any donut shop. The location, although small and cozy, was well staffed and prepared for the busy day. Even though the employees at the front had already been dealing with a lot of traffic throughout the morning, they were still incredibly friendly and patient when I stopped by for a coffee in the afternoon. From the seasonal June menu, I tried the Coffee Cake Crumble Doughnut as I usually go for their vanilla cake base doughnut. Blackbird has both a permanent menu and rotation of monthly specials in both cake doughnuts and brioche doughnuts. I noticed some other reviews may be critical of Blackbird's recipe and prefer other local donut shop. My take on this is that doughnut preference is highly subjective and I'd strongly recommend trying Blackbird Doughnuts if you haven't before making a decision. Personally, I still stand by Blackbird Doughnut as having the best doughnuts in Boston. Coffee tip: grab a loyalty card if you plan to come often for coffee and you get your 10th cup on the house
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
If you are walking by and just want a coffee I would recommend going to another spot. First mistake was coming here just for a coffee and not ordering a donut even though their selection looked delicious. I ordered an iced latte and they made it hot. I told them I asked for hot and both baristas denied that and was about to dump it. My second mistake was I felt bad and told them I would just take it. I took a sip of it and it literally tasted like hot swamp water. I got back and opened the lid, the color alone is very telling for an oat latte. Never ordering a coffee from them again.
google avatar

S D.

Yelp
It's just average. The actual quality of the doughnut leaves a lot to be desired. They look awesome, descriptions are awesome, but all the donuts lack their described flavors. They are all somewhat bland. The actual dough has a dry, even stale texture.

E L.

Yelp
Legit the best donut here is the everything bagel. Savory and super creative to take cream cheese and fill a donut instead of a bagel. Love the monthly rotations of flavors. Usually a couple of filled ones, some with 'glazed flavor' , and always a chocolate one. They are very creative so you'll never get bored. Definitely worth a try if you're nearby any of its locations!
google avatar

Josh W.

Yelp
5 stars. Great selection and great donuts! I tried a few different donuts and they were all good. I'll definitely go back.
google avatar

Vicky V.

Yelp
Go to Kane's! Don't say I didn't warn you... Purchase with caution. The donuts here are a shockingly disappointing contrast compared to their other locations. The donuts are dry, tough, and taste old even though they are delivered daily. Even their glaze cracks and slides off. Maybe it's because their door stays open and dries out their donuts? Maybe it's because they over mix their dough? Maybe it's because their kitchen is too cold and the dough doesn't proof enough? Maybe they don't apply their glaze when their donuts are still warm? Who knows... but after giving them 4 chances all I can say is avoid this place! It was so bad that after buying 3 donuts we went to Kane's right after and got 3 new donuts that were perfection and what a donut should be.... soft, tender, and fluffy! My husband was so upset he didn't even talk and just started driving to find edible donuts. The only donuts this location successfully produces are their cake donuts if you can get them fresh. I usually purchase 3-4 at a time so that is technically 12 donut strikes over 4 visits in 2 months. The best part is this wasn't even a soft opening and they still couldn't rectify their product after 2 months. I will say although they have NO phone number you can ever call... their customer service is excellent via email. Their manager did refund my purchase, but I don't think anyone should be subjected to such disappointment x4! Ergo it's a 2 star rather than 1 star review.

Samantha S.

Yelp
This donut shop was right down the street from our air bnb and was a perfect place to grab donuts. We got the chocolate cake and it was pretty good. It was chewy and cakey which I love. The girl gave good recommendations and served us our donuts and coffees in a timely manner. If you're looking for the best donuts in Boston, I'm there's definitely somewhere better. Overall this place did the job for us, something quick, tasty, and not dunkin!
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
Simply the best! Always have a rotating me of new monthly flavors accompanied by their amazing staples. Coffee & tea too. The jelly doughnuts are killer! Convenient new location too. Must try!

Chad S.

Yelp
Donuts were delicious, especially the pumpkin. My kids wanted Dunkin' Donuts, I veto'd them for this place. Glad I did.
google avatar

Peter B.

Yelp
These donuts were very good. But it was $10 for two donuts. I had the fritter and my wife had a glazed. The store is small and there is no room to sit or even stand to eat.

Witchy W.

Yelp
I'm not sure how someone messes up a donut but the one I got here was awful. The dough was tough and stale, the cream had almost no flavor or even sweetness to it. I ended up throwing it away.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
It was a disappointing donuts that I ever taste. I thought it would be good ones but not.... My son likes vanilla glazed. I tried cherry bismarck and boston creme, both didn't give much enjoying to eat. I thought the boston creme was worse one. I tried to click on everything bagel on order online and it came up with glitch so I cannot get it. The blackbird donut and old fashioned was ok ok. No comparing to Kane's and Basic Batch. I will not definitely come back to order from blackbird doughnuts.

Kristina A.

Yelp
Amazing Donuts, worth the wait of 20 minutes being in there. The place gets packed at 8 am on a Saturday morning
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
I was looking forward to this local shop, but it was just okay. The doughnuts were very interesting and unique flavors and looked delicious, but they honestly tasted like packaged powdered sugar doughnuts from a gas station. There is also no indoor or outdoor seating, but is quick and easy so if you're on the go, this would be a decent choice. The girls working the counter were very friendly, but I probably wouldn't go back if I were in Boston again.

Susan M.

Yelp
Could've just been a bad batch, but our donuts were heavy and gummy. Very disappointing.

Jodie S.

Yelp
I got an apple fritter yesterday - looked yummy and sugary. Unfortunately, the sugary coating was not able to mask the tough and tasteless dough, with not even a hint of apple. Saved me a lot of calories, since it went right into the trash! $5.85! I will never do that again!
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Had a lovely little cider doughnut and a latte. Service was great. I prefer a crispier fry on my doughnut (I know most people like them soft, lol) but the flavors were great.
google avatar

Nanette H.

Yelp
Greasy. Stale. Few flavors. Kind staff. No bathroom. I've had these donuts at another location, and they were terrific. These just seemed like they were not fresh and they didn't have much of a selection. Definitely underwhelmed.
