The staff was really great, and the atmosphere did feel historic. I didn't get to see the upstairs as they said it was only open during the weekends, but I did see one or two pool tables on the main floor. I went on a Monday evening and they were hosting trivia. I had the Guinness Beef Stew at the bartender's suggestion and it was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place, and I hope to visit it again the next time I'm in town.

Not a stellar first visit. Despite only 3-4 other patrons being present when we walked into the bar area, neither of the two staff members greeted us or said anything. Waited until they let us know it was open seating. First table we sat at we had to move from because something was dripping from the ceiling. Ordered the Irish Breakfast and the Shepherds Pie. Server came back a couple moments after taking our order to tell us that the cook had said that the “shepherds pie was no good”. So I ordered the fish and chips. My partner’s feedback on the Irish Breakfast was that it was missing some traditional Irish Breakfast components. He felt that the dish was so-so. I felt that the fish and chips was also average. Server was friendly and attentive. Clarified with our server about the shepherds pie because we weren’t sure we had heard her right and were just curious what the cook meant. She clarified that the shepherds pie mix is made in-house and that the batch they had was no longer fresh. Bummed.

We were hunting for mimosas before we left downtown on a Sunday & it seemed our options were slim. But then we found this little pub in Uptown. The outdoor seating was exactly what I was looking for. The mimosas were perfect ! Absolutely great service. Our waitress was adorable. I wish I had gotten her name so I could give her a shout out.(She was working Sunday 4/27/25 at 1:30 pm) But anyway, she recommended the cheese curds and boy were they yummy! I don’t live nearby, but I will definitely be back anytime I’m in town. They also have a trivia night and great happy hour specials. We had a lot of fun here!

Very poor imitation of a British pub. Barely any beers on tap and generally a rather sad atmosphere inside the bar. The patio is better on a nice day but there are other bars nearby that trump it in almost every way.

This is a Green Bay Packers bar in Dallas. We're from Wisconsin and have been living in Dallas area for 7 years. Good spot to watch the game. They have a good deal 2 beers, 2 brats, and cheesecurds for like $20. Service was poor. They weren't that busy. I had to ask for extra ranch twice and after 15-20 minutes of my cheese curds getting cold I went to the kitchen myself to get ranch. The table next to us sat down after us and didn't get served for those same 15-20 minutes.

This is a great Irish pub. If you're a futbol fan and specifically a Man United fan this is a well good pub to enjoy a match with fellow fans. They open early for game day ties and the servers are the bees knees. Very attentive and super friendly. The atmosphere is superb. I forgot to take pictures but it got the Irish breakfast which came with eggs, bangers, beans, bacon and toast and was a great portion size and very reasonably priced. The food was fresh and delicious. Also got the pub pretzel which came with cheese and a spicy mustard. A great local pub. Highly recommend

Food was great! Came here during a busy moment and it was understaffed, had to wait for over half an hour to get served, and an additional half our to het our order. However, still had a good time!

I really don't have anything negative to say about this place. It's always a great atmosphere, cold beer on tap, TV's everywhere. Oh, and if you're a Cowboys, Alabama, or Manchester United fan, this bar is for you. Every game is a huge meet up of other local fans. Which is fun, especially for the premier league. Overall, this pub reminds me of being in Europe, but it's located deep in the heart of Uptown.

Loved this classic Irish dive bar!! We got a few rounds of the mango margs ($10). They were on the sweeter side but huge. The portions were huge- the loaded fries ($10) were cheeses and super thick. The steak and frites ($17) were good but nothing too special. The steak was somewhat tough but I loved the chimichurri sauce and now the fries were more crispy and thinner. Our waitress was super nice- She kinda took my plate while I was still eating so I'd advise ppl to ask for a to go box earlier on.

Divey in the best possible way. If you want great pub food, a classic English beer list and whatever sport is currently playing- this is the place for you. The food was great and service was incredibly quick during a crowded football match. Prices were also super reasonable for the large portion sizes.

My experience was so amazing!! It was my first time at the bar not knowing what the expect. Great service by Kara and Eli!! Seriously they were SO sweet and quick. The food and drinks were excellent! Everywhere you looked was T.V.... Would be great if you were wanting to watch a game and have some good drinks. Clean and organized inside. I give this a five star!!! Will be coming back. Thank you.

We popped in on a Sunday morning to watch the English Premier League and a few pints. The bar tender was great and admitted a little hung over just like us! That being said, the service was still top notch! We drank a local lager and paired it with loaded cheese curds. LIFE CHANGING!

Home Of Manchester United. If you are a fan of united this the place to be around nothing but devil fans! Ive found this place months ago. Ive already love it. Especially weekends. I usually dont know the songs and chants but some day i will! Ive trued their Makers n coke, my way to go n also My fav , always Fries are great w the side of sauces! But overall i love this place Service is great the homie (dont know her name) is great she already knows what i order everytime now n then

Came in and ordered a cider and a beer off the menu. I was told they didn't have the cider in stock so she offered a different option that I went with. A few minutes later she came back and let us know both the cider she recommended and the beer we ordered they did not have. She recommended a much more expensive beer to my boyfriend but he ordered something more similar to his original order. After this I ordered a cocktail and my boyfriend his other beer option. Instead of getting the beer he ordered she came with the expensive one she had recommended as well as my cocktail and the second cider that they apparently did have in stock. Overall the experience was not great and I will not be back. It was not busy the server just seemed as though she couldn't be bothered.

Just now saw this response. No, there was no private event upstairs at any of the multiple times I went before I stopped. They just have decided to close off one of their best features, the upstairs and the view, during the week and as a consequence I've quit going altogether.

This was one of my favorite stops in Dallas. The venue is pretty cool - it has two floors and they have a great food menu. You can overlook McKinney Avenue from the second floor balcony. The bartenders were super friendly and gave me a lot of recommendations of where to go for New Year's Eve. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and look forward to returning

it was a lot of work to eat here. mngt. wont staff it right ! wait long time to order by than sever wants to close you out wtf. need ice cold glasses. be long time before next cold drink. foods great. i want cold beer. some cutomers like drugs and make it a bad atmosphere. im tired now after watching cowboy game. stomach upset too much warm beer. i been here aot in past. but now i feel i dont matter. just give the money now ! food is great still. exhausted trying to have fun. ugh. Went there for a work-related event and had an amazing time. The food is delicious, ambiance is excellent, drinks were great, and the staff are super exceptional. I will definitely go back next time I visit Dallas.

This is our favorite pub in Uptown. We always feel welcome by the bartenders, especially ASHTON! She rocks! their food and drinks are good. My boyfriend swears they pour the BEST GUINNESS I can't wait to go back for their chicken tenders

Love Blackfriar and the staff. From Karaoke on Wednesday to watching a college game on Saturday, I love going to Blackfriar and grabbing a drink or grabbing some food

What you'd expect for a dive bar. The atmosphere is sweaty, sticky, and full of the smell of smoke. The drinks are watered down and the service takes a while.

Great spacious place with plenty to pick from. We sat at the bar and Ashton was so wonderful and attentive, she made some great food recommendations and we ordered the Reuben sandwich and fish and chips, both were delicious tasty for sure!

Joined my friend here coworkers birthday party . What an amazing time . Staff was super friendly and attentive. The location is nice . Not much parking but you know anything about this area you aren't surprised. Don't let this stop you from going here . Amazing. Beautiful Décor. Food was awesome. The cheese sticks huge . The buffalo wings hot fresh and amazing. The fruit tray had the freshest strawberries. I can't say enough about this place. The catering was top shelve. It appears the alcohol was good and top shelve. I don't drink but every one else seemed happy . Thank You Guys I am bad on names but you know who you are when see your pictures. Happy birthday Stu . The place smells like a frat house. I honestly think it just needs a good deep cleaning. Their drinks are nothing special. I wish they had more beer options or other cocktails. The food is decent for bar food. I'd go back for the pretzels, moz sticks and the chicken nachos. They also have good priced happy hour.

Still my favorite place in uptown. The service here is excellent no matter who you talk to. Raul and Nas are great servers and Brian and Ashton are fantastic behind the bar. Not a bad thing on the menu but the chicken fingers are top tier.

Food: We ordered fries and veggie burger. Fries were decent, but loved the veggie burger as it was true vegetarian burger rather than a meat replica like you would at most of the places. Drinks: It's an Irish bar, so all good! Service: A bit slow and lazy, there is room for improvement. Not a deal breaker though. Ambiance: It's a typical sports bar, outdoors patio has a really nice vibe to it. Oh, it's pet friendly too!

Such great service and the brownie was the highlight of the meal! The bartenders are so nice and food was great.

I apologize, I got the wrong place. I got a reply from the manager and quickly realized my mistake. Blackfriar Pub did not deserve my negative rating. I'm new to the area and literally got the wrong restaurant. To clarify, I did place an order to the pub online that got denied because they were understandably busy. But the people that came into my establishment that verified I could order anything whenever I wanted was from a different restaurant altogether (unnamed). I blame my maps app, they get the one star instead Again, my sincerest apologies to the Pub. ~Ophelia

Came to blackfriar for the Alabama game was was impressed. The bottle beer special was a great deal, the cheese curds were amazing, the service was so fast, and the yellow hammer was delicious! I will be back!

Came here to watch the Alabama game, and this place was a PARTY. I've never seen more Alabama fans in my life. The bartenders were working hard and running, good drinks, fun atmosphere, just know you need to make yourself heard in order to get a drink without waiting for 20 plus minutes.

I've tried to place 3 orders the last 3 weekends from this place (via Grubhub) and in each case the bar has cancelled my order claiming they aren't taking orders. Absolutely ridiculous behavior to simply cancel valid orders arbitrarily - if you can't fulfill orders, then quit offering your business as an option through these delivery/pickup apps. Three strikes and you're out.

The food and atmosphere is amazing. The salad was a little overdressed but great other than that. The burger is also amazing

Underrated for brunch. When people suggest brunch places in Uptown it's usually Social House, Public School, State & Allen, BREADWINNERS... (some of these overrated - I'll let you decide which) never have I heard Black Friar. First, there was no wait, but it was also close to 1pm. Their menu options don't disappoint and their brunch drink specials are good too ($10 for a mimosa carafe!) I got a single red wine sangria ($3) and the Chicken Biscuits and Gravy ($9). This dish would run $11+ at other places. Normally not a big biscuits person, but this was good!! The fried chicken was perfect and I was satisfied at the end of it. I probably would skip the brunch tacos because the portion looked small... you only get 2 tacos. Personally think you should get at least 3. Would come back again!

Nice little pub. When you pull into the parking lot they do offer valet. The main floor is pretty dark but when you're upstairs it's not too bad. And I feel like it more lively on the second floor. When we went there was plenty of seating inside and out on the patio. Servers are friendly and the beers and drinks are reasonably price.

I came for the first time, really great place. Fun vibe, great drinks, servers were extremely nice and helpful. Had some apps, steak nachos really good, had fish and chips and wings. All were great! Lots of TVs and awesome outdoor space. I will be back for sure.

"Authentic" replica of an Irish Pub but limited number of drafts. Good service and great ambiance especially when not too crowded. Decent menu selection but not 100% UK style selections.

I came here from Kansas and this is one of the best experiences I've ever had at a pub. Everyone is so friendly, staff and customers included. It's is a very good place to come and have a good chat with some friend and if you come by yourself then there is always a friendly person to talk to.

I love the atmosphere here. It's very unique and old fashioned. I love the antiquated look. I have eaten appetizers here in a few occasions and was never disappointed. They also carry the seasonal Sweetwater Triple Tail which is hands down my favorite beer. However, the most recent time we stopped in they had rap music blasting so loud that I could barely hear my date. It just wasn't fitting for a place like this, and we haven't been back since.

Stopped in here on a Monday night for dinner. This bar has a huge outdoor patio and really nice decor. The food was surprisingly good. The menu isn't huge, but we tried the pistachio crusted chicken and the fish tacos. The fish was beer battered and had great flavor. The chicken was cooked crispy and was savory and filling. Nice servers, really cool vibe.

Fabulous service! Amazing DJ and OH wow the Food is seriously to die for! Please order the whiskey cheese! My girl Ashton is a total rockstar! So happy to find my new Sunday funday home!

I brought my team here for a cocktail class/team Christmas Party. Our bartender, Jordan, was absolutely great! Not only was he knowledgeable about drinks/cocktails on so many levels, but he was super friendly and had a great personality! The drinks were awesome and we had a fantastic time! I'll definitely be coming back for some happy hours in the future!

We stumble upon this pub while walking McKinney avenue on an empty stomach. I never expect a bar to serve food that will keep me coming back. This small find was an incredible one. The fish and chips is spectacular! The burger is exceptional! We came back a second time just to see if it was a random good day for the kitchen. It wasn't! This kitchen serves up a great meal! If you are in the area and hungry, I recommend that you try this place out! Great pub vibe and excellent food and drinks!

I tried to leave a voicemail, but there's not an option to. Someone has their large dog unleashed at the top of the back stairs and it came charging and me and my dog into the road ready to attack. Thankfully people were around to help back the dog up. Please leash your dog!

The patio was awesome to hang out with friends on game day! One of our friends paid for the full tab and we left but the waitress (Heidi) claimed that we walked out on a bar tab. I like how you spend money in a good place and then get trashed talked for a $50 tip. I appreciate you for doing a half-assed job taking care of us then trash talking us behind our back. Will not be coming back until the staff understands means of taking care of the customer and not being a POS!

If you are looking for a good bar near Hotel Zaza then The Black Friar certainly fits the bill. If you like to drink I'm told they have quite a good selection, if like me you just travel with those that like to drink then they'll be happy and you won't be disappointed with the food. The burgers here are good and I've never had a bad meal. The skinny fires are particular good if you are so inclined and the wait staff are always very friendly even if you show up with a large crowd. On this business trip I made my second trip to The Black Friar and it did not disappoint.

I had a great brunch on the patio, here. Service was good. Breakfast was decent--jalapeño cheese biscuit was tasty, and eggs were cooked nicely. Mimosa carafes were $10. Overall, it was a fair experience, but the food was just okay for the price. I was disappointed that the very expansive patio wasn't dog-friendly. It seemed like a missed opportunity because everyone and their dogs were walking or jogging past.

Tried the place yesterday and it was pretty good. We went for brunch and everything we had was delicious. Must try it maybe on a Saturday afternoon, the ambiance must be very nice then.

First time having brunch and the waitress was completely rude. After receiving glasses that weren't cleaned appropriately, I pointed it out and asked for new ones and she gave me attitude and tried to argue with me that they were clean. Was there really a need to argue? She could've easily said "no problem, I'll be back with new ones" She gave us very negative vibes. She brought out or tab without even asking if we were interested in another drink or another food item. I felt as if she just wanted us out there since the very beginning. I'm not trying to bring race into this issue, but is it because we weren't white? I am very disappointed in the service and experience. I will not recommend this place to ANYONE. Shitty service, shitty vibes. Not the best place to have a weekend brunch. Please visit other places like the Social House.
