10 Dallas Bars That’ll Get You Into the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit | Eater

"Like the Uptown original, this recently debuted Lakewood location brings relaxed Irish tradition to the historic Dallas neighborhood. You’ll find Jameson Irish Whiskey all over the menu and behind the bar, but venture out with an Irish Mule featuring ginger beer, Jameson, and lime juice. Rich and refreshing all at once, it pairs seamlessly with a corned beef Reuben." - Steven Craig Lindsey

Food cannot be beat! Chicken nuggets, steak bowl, and bread pudding are really well made. Vibes are great

If you are a Barcelona FC fan this is definitely a must during match day. If you are looking for great service this is also your place. The waiters were ever present and eager to give the best experience.

You know you're in trouble when you walk in and it's instantly boring, then you pay with cash and the bartender gives you change in $2 bills. They obviously want you to run a tab. Drank our beer and left.

The Black Friar Burger was a 4/10. They need to work on their patty, and it not being significantly smaller than the bun. Cheese curds were 8/10. Service was 10/10. It's a cool spot, but seeing as this is the 3rd place to be here in 8 years that doesn't mean much. They should dump the pool table for another 8 top table. Pricing was fine although they definitely gouge on the Guinness. I'd stop in again in better weather to sit in the 2nd level patio. Would skip the main course and just go anywhere else for dinner.

Yelp
Cool spot I hadn't been to before for some weird reason. It felt like an old school TGIFriday's (which is a good thing) from the 80's with the dark wood and smell (again, a good thing.) Service. Was. Soooooooooo slow. It took the one person who I think was the only server working the entire place FOREVER to do anything. I really wanted to try the food but she never came and checked on us so didn't get the chance. We even considered just walking out without paying because it seemed like nobody cared if we paid out or not. And then it took forever for her to run three cards and return them. Also. We didn't know it was a trivia night. So it was very very loud. It was impossible to have a conversation. I'm excited to give this place another try, though, and expect that my follow up review will be much better.

Yelp
Well, got back to try the fish and chips. Over fried so the fish was mushy. Pretty disappointed but still a good beer selection and a great place for sports fans. Decided to do the corned beef poutine. Definitely a swing and a miss. The corned beef is a sandwich meat, not a pulled corned beef. So far only the Guinness stew is worth it. Sorry. Service was good and friendly but someone needs to be watching over the kitchen.

Yelp
Trivia night was fun! It was busy, good speedy and a good time. We ordered some drinks and food too. The waitress wasn't sure about their seasonal rotators--and we had to ask if she could check which was odd. I ended up going with a White Rascal, it was cold and refreshing. For dinner, I ordered the Reuben. It was just ok. The ratio of grilled onions (a lot!) to everything else was off. There wasn't enough dressing which made it dry. Others at the table ordered the fish and chips. Again, just ok. The fish pieces were very crispy and held a lot of grease. The pretzels were nice and salty and a good shareable appetizer. The cheese curds tasted like fried mozzarella balls--and were just lightly fried. Because it was so busy for trivia, we weren't checked on at all. Probably would go back for trivia, but sticking with drinks.

Yelp
Awesome pub located in the Lakewood area. There is another Blackfriar that's been around forever in the uptown area of Dallas, but this one just opened up under the same name in the past year or so. The ambiance here is just as good and similar in a lot of ways to the one in uptown one as well. If sports are your thing, this is definitely a great stop. They have plenty of TV's and turn the music off for certain events/games. They even open up at 5am sometimes depending on the sport. The staff here has always been friendly and helpful too. Dave definitely does a good job behind the bar and has great recommendations all around. I've only had the food here a couple times, but both times it was great, especially the Steak Frites. Another huge plus about this place is it's semi-rooftop area on the second floor that serves as a second bar. The view is amazing when the sun is setting, especially when the weather is nice and sitting outside makes sense. Overall, definitely recommend stopping in, especially if you live in the Lakewood area!

Yelp
Delicious food, and fun atmosphere! Bartenders/servers are great. Perfect for watching sports, especially Barcelona games

Yelp
Decor cute. Olde English. Excellent custom drink for our UGA alumni group. Chicken strips and hamburger tasty.

Yelp
Dope place. David was the bartender and super friendly and we got a free sandwich because a rude customer came in and ordered the sandwich but left after two minutes complaining it was taking too long. He was a miserable person but David was polite to him and smiled the whole time. Will be back and tell friends.

Yelp
The charge for my last review (last Friday) came through, for the incorrect (happy hour drink charges at full price) amount. I will go in to talk to manager today, to see if anyone there cares enough to do the right thing, and charge happy hour prices during happy hour hours.

Yelp
Lunch was good. had salad and buffalo wings. wings were excellent and will go back for that. looking forward to doing a happy hour or a session soon. Service was great as well as atmosphere.

Yelp
What you'd expect a pub to be like. The shepherds pie was great comfort food. The service was alright. We had a large party and were at a small table making it difficult to fit plates and drinks

Rodolfo S.

Yelp
Great drinks and always a fun time on Wednesday for Karaoke or Thursday for Trivia. The staff is super friendly and one of the main reasons we return frequently! I have the burger twice and it was delicious!

Yelp
I've been going to the blackboard in uptown for years and happy they opened this location in Lakewood. It's a nice setup with two levels and topical pub fair that's solid. The drinks are reasonable prices for beers and they have a decent collection but not extensive.

Yelp
Twas the night before blackout, at a place next to mine At a place in Downtown Dallas, a pub so fine, Where laughter flows like aged wine. With shamrocks bright and Irish cheer, Let me tell you, it's worth a cheer! The bartenders Avi and Emilyn smile, a warm embrace. Welcoming you into this cozy place. The Guinness stout, a perfect pour, Leaves you craving for just one more. The music plays, a lively reel, The fiddle's tune, it makes you feel, The spirit of the Emerald Isle, With every note, it brings a smile. The wooden benches, worn and true, Hold stories of the old and new. A friendly banter fills the air, As patrons gather, tales to share. The atmosphere, it's warm and grand, A place where friendships firmly stand. With lively conversations near, You'll find a sense of kinship here. So, if you seek a pub so fine, With Irish charm that intertwines, Raise your glass, let's give a cheer, For this pub is for you, you best get here

Scott K.

Yelp
What an awesome spot. Open air, dark wood, tv's everywhere and sweet, pretty attentive, servers/bartenders. As a tourist, Aviana and Emilyn were more than happy to teach me about hockey and how the Dallas Stars only win if you take shots of top shelf Tequila consistently. This eclectic, bougie part of east Dallas has a hidden gem amongst them. I sincerely hope no one reads this review and next time I'm in town, I can't find a seat.

Yelp
Went in on an afternoon just to see how it might differ from its predecessors with menu, decor, beer selection, etc. Beer selection (draught) remained pretty solid but not much change from prior bar/restaurant on menu or decor and the service was just as slow, even sitting at the bar. Though, once served, the server(s) were really nice and generally fast on the order.

Jose p.

Yelp
First time here and service was very slow.... Waitress was too busy talking to everyone and not picking up dishes and attending to customers. Chips and queso were alright salsa tasted bland no spice. I had the fish tacos and they had no flavor... fish was over fried. We had to get our own drinks from the bar... staff was no help.

A Dallas G.

Yelp
Enjoyed our time here. Super fast service and great bartenders. Will be back and welcome to the neighborhood!

Matt M.

Yelp
The service is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The food and atmosphere is great. If you need a different spot this is your place. If you live close by, this is your spot

Yelp
This is our go-to bar in Lakewood. Fernando and Dave are great and make the place super welcoming and fun. Best bar food in Dallas--love the chicken fingers and fish n chips. Outstanding beer selection. It's definitely the spot to be, whether for a big game or date night.

John H.

Yelp
Good service, beer is cold but food was not good especially for St. Patty's day dishes. Really bad, sorry......
