The Pandemic Presents Another Obstacle for Southeast Asian Restaurants in D.C. | Eater DC

"When my mom emigrated to the United States in the 1970s, her first restaurant manager job at Blackie’s House of Beef placed her squarely in a steak-and-potatoes culinary landscape, a reminder of how unlikely it once would have been to bank on Jungle Asian food to carry a restaurant." - Simone Jacobson

Really nice looking restaurant. The service is excellent as well. My only issue with the restaurant was just the mediocre food. Everything looked fantastic. When you tasted it, there really wasn’t a lot going on flavor wise. This restaurant seems to be very big on portion control. The cheese burger Rangoon taste like a burger that didn’t have the patty in it. There was barely any ground beef in there. Even the cups they give you to drink from were very small. I asked for some honey mustard and they actually charge me $.25 for it. I just thought that was laughable. The $30 chicken sandwich was nothing special unfortunately. The chicken was cooked well but the sandwich had no flavor. I ordered the short rib tacos, and it was way too sweet. The salsa that came with it tasted like pure lime. To pay $23 for two tacos, all I can say is that it was a bit of a disappointment. I also ordered a five dollar side salad, which was excellent. The side salad was the best thing I ordered. So all in all, I spent $100 including tip on lunch. It left a lot to be desired.

A great relaxing late lunch. Our service was handling a large out door section alone so took a bit to come say hi but we were in no rush. Frank’s & food were great. Pizza to go was amazing.

I've been following this restaurant on social media for years. I finally was able to make a day out of coming down, going kayaking, checking out a farmer's market and circling around to visit the restaurant. The host was extremely helpful in providing feedback on what I should order, and she also gave me a quick tour of the space. I had no idea how large it was.. very impressive! Since I moved to the seacoast from Connecticut in 2021, it's been near impossible to find good quality food. Even when I go out after work in Boston, there's just something missing The freshness of the dishes I ordered far surpassed any food I've eaten in the area since I moved. I got the short rib tacos, spicy squid and Boston cream dessert. I feel like the dessert could have had more emphasis on the cream, but it's all so delicious and filling. Best of all, gluten free!

The food and the service was stupendous! The drinks in the other hand need some help! We enjoyed gluten free spinach and ricotta calzone it was flaky and crisp with the most delicious cheese oozing out of it. Amy enjoyed the chicken melanase cooked to perfection I enjoyed an amazing pasta dish with thin ribbons of zucchini and haves of delicious grape tomatoes all based in the most delightful butter and oil this plate should be served with some sort of yummy toast triangles or a small garlic baguette 🥖 but other than that there was no wait we were seated with drinks in minutes thousand precent worth checking it out especially gluten free people🤙🏼🦂🌅

If you’re considering Blackie’s—go. It will not disappoint. The ambiance, service, and food are absolutely AMAZING. GLUTEN FREE ALERT: My wife has had celiac for 10 years, and we’ve tried just about every gluten-free option in Boston, Worcester, and now Providence. Blackie’s takes the crown. Hands down the best gluten-free dining experience we’ve ever had. ✅ Dedicated gluten-free pizza oven (yes, really!) ✅ Gluten-free quesadillas ✅ Gluten-free chicken tenders ✅ Gluten-free cornbread The quality and care are off the charts. You can actually relax and enjoy the food without second-guessing anything. When are they opening a location in Worcester—and can I invest?! Cheers 🍻

Our wedding day was truly made magical by the staff at Blackie’s. This was my first choice of reception venue, among many other suggestions made to me, my heart was set on Blackie’s from the beginning. After having been a guest at a friend’s baby shower a year before, I knew I wanted to host our micro-wedding reception here. The proprietor Jeanine was extremely accommodating from the start, she was very clear and concise in all her communications with me, answering every little question I had (and I had a lot!) and providing clarity and consideration to each request made. She made excellent recommendations for the menu flow, and was considerate of making sure we understood what was considered plenty of fare for the number of guests we had. They allowed us to decorate with florals and signage and wedding knick knacks, and the ambience of the space, the dining arrangements, furniture, were all so amazing. They even allowed us to play our own playlist! We were blown away by how beautiful everything looked, and the staff was outstanding as well; the GM Katie was so kind, and extremely attentive. Our bartender was outstanding, I’m so sad I didn’t get her name but she was so sweet and accommodating. Everyone who had a hand in our special day, from the kitchen staff who made our delicious food, to the servers and waitstaff, and everyone in between, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our special day a memory of a lifetime. Blackie’s will always have a special place in our hearts. Much love from the bride & groom, Justine & Ian Gutkowski.

We went to Blackie’s again tonight, and I’ve got to say these people are on another level. The food and drinks are always great (my margarita was perfect), but what really got me was that the staff and owners actually remembered my son’s egg allergy from a past visit. They made sure everything was safe, and checked in like they genuinely cared. You don’t see that kind of attention much anymore. The food was awesome, service was quick, and everyone there just seemed happy to be working which makes a big difference. Places like this make eating out easy and enjoyable, even with food allergies in the mix. Big thanks to the team, Jeanine and chef Angie. We’ll definitely keep coming back

I travel quite a distance to eat here. It's hands down my favorite restaurant for gluten-free food. Every meal has been amazing! Chicken Ceasar waffle fries are the best combo ever!
