The star of the day is definitely aged duck, very well balanced and layered flavor with perfect tenderness. Second on the list is the mushroom soup to be honest and the charred Romanian that carries a nice charred aroma. Lamb rack could be better, there’s not an obvious highlight on the lamb. Aged beef looks good, would try next time. Appreciate the great hospitality on surprise birthday cake, thank you~ Great ambience, skilled service with rich knowledge of culinary to share with customers. Nice selection of wine! Would recommend this place 🙌🏻

The restaurant operates strictly by appointment — walk-ins aren’t accepted. The overall ambience is pleasant. That said, the so-called “private” room isn’t entirely private since there’s no door, and the floor-to-ceiling windows could benefit from tinted glass to reduce the midday glare, which can be uncomfortable during lunch. They offer 2-course and 3-course menus, along with a selection of à la carte dishes. The mushroom soup, octopus, and steak were fairly average in my opinion. However, the whole-leg chicken was a pleasant surprise — the skin was perfectly crispy, and the mashed potato contained small chunks that added a nice textural contrast. The steak of the day didn’t quite impress me, but the tiramisu was excellent. They even gave a live demonstration of how it was made, which was a nice touch to end the meal.

Dining at Blacklinen in the Millen Hotel was a true culinary highlight. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt refined yet inviting. But what truly set this restaurant apart was the exceptional quality of their grilled offerings. The grill menu is, without exaggeration, phenomenal. Every cut of meat was cooked to absolute perfection—expertly seared, juicy, and seasoned to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients. I had the ribeye, and it was one of the best I’ve had in recent memory: tender, smoky, and perfectly charred on the outside while maintaining a beautiful medium-rare center. The accompanying grilled vegetables were just as impressive—vibrant, fresh, and with a subtle smokiness that tied the whole dish together. You can tell the chefs here take immense pride in their grilling technique, and it shows in every bite. The only reason I’d rate the serving speed at 4 stars is that there was a slight wait between courses. That said, the pacing allowed us to really enjoy the ambiance and engage in conversation without feeling rushed. The staff were courteous and attentive, and the quality of the food absolutely made the short wait worthwhile. In all, Blacklinen is a must-visit for grill lovers and anyone who appreciates high-quality cuisine served with style. I’ll definitely be back—and I’ll be bringing friends.

Had a lovely dining experience at BlackLinen Penang! The ambience is cozy yet stylish, perfect for intimate gatherings or celebrations. We especially loved the option of a private room, which made our dinner feel extra special. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavor — the beef dish was the highlight for me: tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Portions were just right, and service was attentive throughout. Price-wise, it’s around RM100+ per pax, which is reasonable for the quality and overall experience. Highly recommend for a date night or birthday dinner with friends. Will definitely be back to try more from the menu!

I was really surprised when I walked into Blacklinen — the atmosphere and lighting were great. This time I got to eat in a private room, and it felt really nice and comfortable. The lobster pasta was my favorite. I’ll bring my family to try it next time!

My family and I had a really terrible experience at the restaurant. We ordered 3 appetizers, 3 main courses - spring chicken, tomahawk and porterhouse. The appetizers were average, nothing special, the spring chicken was the only not too bad dish. While the tomahawk and porterhouse were horrible. We requested medium for both. The porterhouse was served first and it came half medium well and half well done. The chef admitted that it wasn’t the right doneness and the manager agreed and took it away and cancelled it in our bill. They did offer for a replacement but the wait was too long so we decided not to have it. And we reminded them not to do the same for the tomahawk. And the manager’s attitude was kinda cocky and assured us that the tomahawk will be medium rare and if we think it’s too rare, he will bring it back to the kitchen. So the tomahawk came. And the doneness was well done, with a bit of red near the bone. We couldn’t be bothered to complain again and we just took it as good. However, the chef came again to check whether the tomahawk was ok. And he realised that it wasn’t right. We called for the manager, and asked whether the doneness was even medium by looking at the cut pieces. And he said he wasn’t in the position to comment on the doneness. And this made us wonder, how can a manager of a restaurant not being in the position to comment on the doneness. We paid for everything we ordered except the porterhouse which the manager took away. There is a huge room to improve in terms of the food there and also the attitude of the manager. Being a manager of a restaurant in a high end hotel, attitude is so important. Although the feedback wasn’t a good one, he should be professional and ensure us that he would deliver the message to the kitchen and will do better next time. Instead he only said in mandarin - 谢谢你们的赞美, which means thank you for praising us. Isn’t that very sarcastic? I hope the management of the restaurant could look seriously into the feedbacks given and rectify them. And this will be the only time our family visit Blacklinen.

Visited the restaurant 2 times, planning for 3rd. Food was exquisite and service was top-notch. The people were friendly and super nice, in addition of the manager who kept reminded me of my childhood cartoon character!
