18 Awesome Orange County Bakeries to Try Right Now

"Rachel Klemeck’s Blackmarket Bakery revolutionized the offerings in Orange County when she opened in 2012 at The Camp in Costa Mesa. Klemeck demonstrated her baking prowess as a contestant on The Food Network “Sweets Showdown: Cake!” by taking homestyle flavors and incorporating surprising bursts of fruit. Start with the Blackstrap Betty molasses cookies with bits of dried apricot; chocolate raspberry dotted scones; and Basque batter tarts with citrus cream, berries, and almonds." - Jenn Tanaka

Google
Great bakery with a fun ambiance and a variety of baked goods and more substantial options like sandwiches. I can't speak to the coffee but the matcha was high quality. The breakfast sandwich was great and the upgrade to a crossiont roll was worth it.

My parents have been coming here since before I was born so automatically, I’ve grown up coming to this spot. It’s one of my favorites for the food/drinks, atmosphere, and fresh in-house made bread! They have many vegan friendly options such as JustEgg, and dairy free options too. They make a mean lavender oat milk latte and the BEST almond croissant you’ll ever have. The almond croissants taste like they were imported from Paris through an overnight plane. They’re seriously off the charts. They also make some of the best rosemary sourdough bread I’ve ever had. It’s fresh and the rosemary isn’t overpowering, it’s just the right amount. All of their tarts/desserts are certainly worth trying. I stock up on a big box to bring home for Thanksgiving every year. If you’re ever visiting Orange County, this spot is close to the airport and definitely worth visiting for coffee and breakfast/brunch.

Google
The coffee was just ok but the bakery was amazing and must try the chocolate cake.

Google
What a cute bakery and cafe. My Fresh Prince was amazingly tasty! The red pepper Mayo was also very tasty. The bread, bakery and cookie options were phenomenal! Enormous cookies and the Cinnamon Churro Twists are enormous! My pumpkin chai latte was also delish! A MUST if you’re in the area!!

Google
Recently stayed at the hotel down the street and came here every morning for breakfast and a beverage. Tried their latte, matcha latte, and dirty chai and they were all delicious. Tasty breakfast sandwiches and pastries - highly recommend the almond croissant, the matcha slice and the chai slice. The outdoor seating area is a plus if you have squirmy kids. Highly recommend this local bakery.

A pleasant surprise, good food, great customer service.

Google
The coffee was extremely hot and it burnt me. If this place is a chain restaurant they will for sure get sued. Cappuccino with no foam. Doesn’t taste like espresso, not sure what type of coffee they used. Food was greasy and overpriced.

Google
Blackmarket Bakery for me is such a hit or miss! I’ve really enjoyed some of the items I’ve gotten here like the Fresh Prince and Farmhouse breakfast sandwiches but just had a very meh subpar breakfast burrito. I asked for the crema on the side and received it with it inside. I didn’t want to complain and chose to eat it. The ingredients were hastily put together with one bite being really hot, the other cold? It was odd and if I didn’t pay $15 for it, I would’ve stopped eating it. If you’re craving a more traditional French croissant as well this isn’t it. They’re yummy but in a different way and don’t satisfy that craving. Every time I come here I hope it’ll be better but then it isn’t.

Yelp
Great service, awesome sandwiches and pastries as well as great coffee!! The interior reminded me of the pacific northwest and the baking smell wasnt bad. Their iced tea is really food as well, scones to die for! I am looking to get some cake and other pastries next time!!

Yelp
Ordered a Jane Doe cake, brioche cinnamon rolls, and a Basque Berry tarts for my son's 25th birthday. We picked up the cake, but the rolls and tarts were left behind--the box was marked "1 of 2" but missed by bakery staff and the person who picked up. We called after the weekend party and the staff kindly set aside the rolls and tarts. Though we had to call to correct, their effort to repair the issue was appreciated. Jane Doe cake was decadently creamy and delicious. Yum! We followed their serving directions to keep it out of fridge for a few hours--on a cool day that is good advice! Rolls and tarts were good too, but more crusty than chewy or creamy because they are different pastries altogether. Next time I want to try them fresh lol.

Yelp
We got the B.E.C.A. sandwich, brioche cinnamon roll, and a choc hazelnut twist. Overall the food was pretty good. Our favorite was the BECA, which had a really fluffy and tasty bread. When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

Yelp
I finally claimed my free cookie coupons after a few years but im so happy to have come here again! The parking lot is always full when I come so id be wary about that. The service is nice and the cashier was very friendly. There's indoor seating and this bakery is part of the Camp so you can walk outside to check out other stores. The ambiance is cute with lots of pastries and cookies displayed in the front. There's also delicious snacks displayed throughout the store as well. The molasses and brownie cookie were so good! It was crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside.

Yelp
Blackmarket is at The Camp and I've passed it so many times but usually I've already had breakfast so I refrain from stopping in. But on this day, my goal and my purpose was to stop in and try their baked goodies. Best decision on a random the day ever. I ordered a tomato provolone croissant and my sister ordered the mushroom everything croissant. We were surprised they didn't heat up the croissants when we ordered it. The reason was simple, they were already so fresh and crispy they didn't need to be heated. The croissants were light and buttery without being overbearing. I capped it with an almond milk latte. Random Thursday became a very good Thursday. Casual. Parking can be difficult here at peak hours. Good service. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yelp
Review 9 of 2025 I was craving for a new dessert place at the CAMP shopping center in Costa Mesa. Ambiance is cool and unique filled with cookies, cards, metal lunchboxes, chocolate candy bars, and etc. They have variety of breakfast items served all day. Lunch is served after 11am. They have limited seatings inside and outside. Service was great. I picked up black widow tart - chocolate ganache, salted caramel. It was creamy, chocolatey rich and delicious. The only downside is the small parking lot.

Yelp
Love the coffee and pasties here. They are all 10/10 I was introduced years ago from a friend and I make sure to stop in when I'm in the area. Service is always super welcoming the shop is cute

Yelp
After just one bite, I rushed back to buy several more - they were incredibly tasty and absolutely worth another trip! I'm usually not a fan of ginger, but l arrived a bit late that day and it was the only cookie option available. Desperate for a cookie, I decided to give it a shot, and wow! Their ginger cookies are absolutely phenomenal!!! They're perfectly chewy without being dry. l've tried a variety of their offerings, and I'm looking forward to trying even more on my next visit.

Yelp
First time trying! Five stars. Cinnamon bun was amazing (warm, cinnamony, and big in size). I got the custard for my kiddos so I didn't try that one. The Americano was smooth (I hope that makes sense). The inside of the bakery was very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Outside there was a small play area for the children. As a mom thank you for this My twins played while I took a much needed coffee + pastry break. Service was quick for us on a Sunday morning.

Yelp
Discovered this bakery while exploring the Camp and I don't think I'll ever get coffee anywhere else in that entire mall! Although my food caused the wait time to be a little higher than the typically coffee shop, which the staff warned me about when I ordered, the egg sandwich was fresh and had a great combination of ingredients that made it well worth the wait. I have yet to try their sweets but everything inside the case looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
This place seem very nice, they have a good menu, healthy options, good and big space area to sit down inside or outside the place, they even have their own restroom which is great. But, When I order the girl said that I have to wait for the food which I said ok bc I had to meet someone outside, a few minutes past which I thought was more that enough and they said "sorry, we need more time" I went to the restroom and nothing actually the girls told me "sorry, the person who does the sandwich is not here" really! They were 2 people there and they were just able to do drinks! That was very frustrating and I just ask for my money back. I hope no one has my experience.

Yelp
Really like this spot. it can be a nightmare to park on the weekends, but their coffee and scacnks and gift selection is great! The staff are very hipster-y. No REALLY. You are going to have to work to get a smile, but the food, cookies, and Joe are worth the snark. Place is always spotless, which is saying something with the amount of traffic they get. Seating inside and out can be limited, especially on weekends.

Reilly R.

Yelp
Coffees, sandwiches, baked goods... it's all great! Perfect stop on the way to the beach or to take over to one of the neighborhood breweries that don't serve food.

Yelp
The Hidden Gem for Almond Croissants & Cherry Bars If you know, you know. Blackmarket Bakery is one of those spots that, once you discover it, becomes part of your routine. And if you haven't been yet? Let me put you on. The Almond Croissant That Will Ruin You for All Others This isn't just any almond croissant--it's the almond croissant. Consistently flaky, buttery, and packed with that rich, chunky almond filling that feels homemade in the best way. The top is beautifully crisp, the inside is soft and layered, and every bite is perfection. It's the kind of pastry you think about the next morning and wish you had stocked up on. The Cherry Bar - Underrated But Absolutely Essential This one doesn't get enough hype, but it should. Their cherry bar is the perfect mix of tart, sweet, and buttery, and the best part? The team here is always so nice--they happily warm it up for you, which takes it to the next level. Warm, gooey, and just the right amount of indulgent. The Move: Pair It With a Flat White from Work in Progress Here's my routine: grab my almond croissant (or cherry bar, depending on the mood) and then head over to Work in Progress for their flat white. It's the perfect combo--flaky pastry, smooth espresso, and the kind of breakfast that makes your whole morning better. Don't Sleep on the Cookies While the almond croissant is the star, their cookies are seriously good too. Soft, chewy, and packed with flavor--whether you go for chocolate chip, peanut butter, or one of their seasonal flavors, you can't go wrong. Final Thoughts? This Place is a Must. Blackmarket Bakery has that rare mix of incredible pastries, warm service, and a local feel that keeps you coming back. Whether you're grabbing a quick treat or making it part of your morning ritual, it never disappoints. Vibe is causal and welcoming. More for takeout.

Yelp
The place is a cool little spot the service was friendly and helpful come grab good drink or sit for a bit and enjoy someone good food. I've only had the breakfast burrito will definitely come again

Yelp
Cute vibe for a little coffee and bakery shop. Breakfast sandwich was delicious and filling. and

Yelp
Very tasty tarts! Good to buy for a party for friends to try different flavors instead of a traditional cake.
google avatar

Kirstin K.

Yelp
LOVELY. ABSOLUTELY LOVELY. Lots of non-dairy options for your coffee. Flourless brownies are rich and decadent.
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
I ordered the Golden Child cake online for a birthday celebration. It looked beautiful, but it was smaller than expected. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't quite deliver. The butter meringue was too firm, and not as smooth or light as I'd hoped. My spouse also felt the taste wasn't great. Visually impressive, but the overall experience fell short.
google avatar

Todd D.

Yelp
My go to is the health nut scone. Cute spot to try out while you walk around the camp. The baked goods are really good. It's slightly expensive, but compared to Starbucks pricing it is actually at or below market rate. Try anything it's all good, baked in house the morning of. Service is great and one of the few places in OC with house made cinnamon rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
We've been here many times for various pastries and sandwiches. The fresh baked goods are delicious and you can always find something new to try. You can even find packaged items for birthdays or small gifts to take to friends and family

Yelp
here i am...after getting car serviced little past 9am. Santouka (ramen) not open, Boba Guys not open, dump-a-lumps aka Din Tai Fung not open, Eastborough (grapefruit salad & upscale banh mis) not open...so here we, hungry, possibly increasingly hangry and unable to process basic conversation responses. Fresh Prince $12 for a breakfast sandwich lord (sith) have mercy, in an another country itd be $3. Toasted sourdough was pleasantly lightly toasted, i was afraid for toasted to brick stale sourdough but if this is how their sourdough is here i might be coming back for a loaf. very light crisp exterior but pillowy soft when you break through. Egg is underwhelming. Avocado is great. Red onions great. Tomato fine. Spicy mayo is uh less than mild, probably comparable to taco bell mild and diluted but creamed up. In total its nice, not stand out banger. The only neg is when you bite into it, everything inside squeezes out in all directions, especially the avocado, that thing shoots out like a well lubed kitchen accessory. Parking is The Camp. During weekends and general fooding hours it is a anxiety packed demonic hole of spot campers. During normal work hours is spaciously nice and the quips on the ground for each parking space, i love it. TBH i wish it were like much bigger, the whole lot i mean, the windy road is nice, but way too short. If it were like a whole park w a hidden village itd be supppperrrr cooool.

Yelp
Blackmarket Bakery is a hipster like bakery located in Costa Mesa at the camp. It's so unique and truly is a one-of-a-kind! The decor is more rustic and the atmosphere is laid back/ casual. It's not a big bakery, but they do have a lot of baked goods! Cookies, brownies, mugs, stickers, and t-shirts, you name it. They have lots of swag to show off and support the Blackmarket Bakery. The name is so catchy! The parking is annoying in this area. It's always hard to find parking. Service was good. They were friendly and helpful. The desserts are really good here!!
google avatar

Yelp
Scrumptious sandwiches and baked goods! I especially love their berry poppins and Dill sandwich. Delicious!
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
Got the uncle tiger. It was so good my friend and I split it. They had to substitute the bread bc they didn't have the sourdough but it was so fresh. The service was so nice too. Loved it
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee and pastries. Nice place to visit and sit inside. Well decorated and friendly staff. We also bought a loaf of bread which we al"enjoyed at home.

Yelp
1. The coffee is simple, and it still tasted deliciously comforting! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes with a spacious interior! 3. There are a good amount of indoor tables, but there is an outdoor seating area in front! You can also find additional tables inside The Camp! 4. The staff were friendly and quick with my drink! It took about 5 mins! 5. Parking lot can get crowded after 11 am on the weekends! Note: There is a gender-neutral bathroom inside! Photo: Small Dirty Chai Latte (Hot)

Yelp
A great bakery inside the Camp with a variety of baked goods and drinks available to please any sweet tooth craving. I came in curious about the gluten free baked goods and I walked out with a variety of gluten free and regular baked foods to please my mom and I (I'm the gluten free one). This is a large bakery with a little room (as in a couple of tables and chairs) to accommodate a couple a small parties/families while they enjoy their baked goods and/or drinks. I came in during the middle of the afternoon on a Monday and there were a handful of clients enjoying their baked goods inside and outside while I mused around, looking for the perfect baked goods. Someone behind the counter helped me decide which cookies I wanted to buy since they only had a handful of gluten fcookies that day. I ended up buying : 2 guava lemonades, a freshly warmed up cinnamon roll, a mud cookie (gf), another chocolate gf cookie, flourless almond brownie bites, a sugar skull decorated cookie and a giant churro. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my little adventure to Blackmarket Bakery and am looking forward to coming back to trying their other gluten free creations and specialty drinks. Thank you Blackmarket Bakery for adding some sweetness to my Blue Monday and the beginning of my Birthday week

Shauntina S.

Yelp
Stopped in here to grab a few pastries and it was some of the best I have had in OC. I had a "pop tart" the crust was so flaky and buttery. I grabbed short bread cookies for later and they were AMAZING. Service was fast and easy, parking is a nightmare here but that's because it's in the camp and that's just what you expect. Cool place lots of things to shop like cards and trinkets and gifts.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
It was my first time here. I felt the baked goods were a mixed bag. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items? Chocolate Croissant: 2.0/5.0 - Hard Pass. I feel like I could have baked Pillsbury brand at home that would have been just as good. Prickly Pear/Passion Fruit Cheesecake: 2.5/5.0 - Pass. I've had much better cheese cake from Whole Foods, not even to compare home made cheese cake. Cherry Almond Bar 4.5/5.0 - Yes, Please! This was by far the best out of the three things we tried. At the prices they want for their baked goods, I probably won't be back. I'll make the trip to Moulin instead.
google avatar

Michael Min C.

Yelp
I went to Blackmarket bakery today. I got the sugar cookies, chocolate chip with milk and dark chocolate, snickerdoodle, pumpkin pie and the Dutch Crunch bread. Everything was delicious and high quality. Cookies were perfectly crispy on the edges and soft in the center. High quality ingredients executed and baked to perfection. Thank you and we will be back.

Yelp
Follow me to this super cool bakery and coffee shop. Highlights of the menu: 1. Green tea latte 2. Iced tea 3. Coconut ube roll 4. Seasonal cheesecake 5. Walnut chocolate mudslide 6. Cozy cats cookie 7. Chocolate cookie 8. Sprinkle in time cookie 9. Stab in the dark tart 10. Jalapeno bacon croissant 11. Tomato provollande croissant 12. Ham & swiss cheese croissant 13. The Gobbler - grilled turkey, bacon, swiss, plumped cranberries, sliced apple, basil mayo on Dutch crunch 14. Fresh orange juice They have so many cool merchandise. Great for hanging out, working with colleagues.

Yelp
This place is so cute inside and is a local gem. It is not a fast food joint so food takes time to come out. It's worth the wait though. .I love all their breakfast sandwiches, fresh bread, cookies and black iced coffee. My only wish is that they would have the lemon pucker cookie year round! Service is great! Go support this wonderful local business!!
google avatar

Butter B.

Yelp
best part of this experience is ambiance and brownie. I would recommend iced americano, not too sour not too strong who likes it that way. The tart tastes like leftover fridge very sad to spend 7-8$...But overall great place to chat hang out and work.Matcha is watery.
google avatar

Terree R.

Yelp
The Lab in Costa Mesa is a cool place to meet someone for lunch. It's a nice oasis from the concrete jungle surrounding it. The gal at the counter was friendly and knowlegeable about the day's offerings. I read they had the sticky buns I had been craving and they didn't disappoint - - flakey, sticky and plenty of crunchy nuts!
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
Bought the lemon rosemary bread was delicious and fragrant. Strong rosemary smell. I enjoy eating it toasted with avocado for brunch.
google avatar

Jordane A.

Yelp
This bakery was so good and had so many delicious pastries. The service was impeccable and had a cute inside. The vibe is just right for a study session.
google avatar

Yelp
Having visited Blackmarket Bakery a few times, I'm now falling in love with a little slice of San Francisco. This place reminds me of the incredible bakeries and small privately owned businesses all over San Fran. I'm not sure what might be their signature item, but I'm going to say their almond croissants are the best around. Just love the place. It's so refreshing to have a place like this around in Orange County.
google avatar

Susanne V.

Yelp
The cakes look good on their photos, however, I came here today for the 2nd time. No cakes. They are truly a coffee shop They pop up when I search for cakes though. Kinda misleading. I will go to frenches for a cake
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
This place has been there for as long as I can remember. They have a good variety of drinks and pastries and I do enjoy coming here just to browse because they have so many cool items too.
google avatar

Reese J.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings with places that have such good vibes but then at some point I get disappointed. Blackmarket is super fun! I love all the little details in this place including the logo itself, having a cake centered between two knives. I love the ceiling decor, tons of merch to purchase, goodies available to enjoy at home and word magnets to be creative. My photo session here was so much fun! We ordered a cold brew with shots of vanilla, a mocha latte, cinnamon roll, pecan sticky bun, farmhouse breakfast sandwich and walnut dusties and cinnamon pillows for home. The drinks came out pretty quickly but when our farmhouse breakfast sandwich was ready minutes later, I had to ask about the cinnamon roll and the pecan sticky bun. They had forgotten about the pastries and they had forgotten the request for it to be warmed. I would have more empathy if the place was overwhelmingly crowded but it wasn't on this Monday morning. There wasn't anything that screamed "oh my gosh this is so good". I couldn't capture the mocha in my latte, the cinnamon roll was a bit hard until we got to the center and so was the pecan sticky bun. I wasn't a fan of the farmhouse sandwich either, even with the jalapeno croissant. The customer service was also just okay. I feel like, for them, it's just a job and not a passion.
google avatar

Kay D.

Yelp
The service here is great and the ambiance is quite busy and bustling they have a really great display of the items they offer. It is a little pricier than some places but overall a solid spot.
google avatar

Dwayne O.

Yelp
Blackmarket Bakery What a wonderful bakery, creative, fun and great baked goodies. The cookies are gourmet and delicious, can't go wrong with any of them. Pecan Sticky Bun was very good and yummy Churr-sant could have passed on this. So many choices, but my favorite were the cookies insanely good.
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
I hesitated before calling in a pickup order, because every time I go here the wait times are outlandish. Just way longer than other coffee shops even when there's not a lot of foot traffic. They answered the phone right away but when I asked to place a pickup order she sounded surprised and put me on hold. I waited 7 minutes before hanging up. The food, environment, coffee is good but the prices are high and the service sucks. They need to do better. Took my business across the street this morning.
google avatar

Areli E.

Yelp
Ughh decided to give it a second chance and ordered to go. Wtf is this? I got charge for avocado!!! I am wondering where is the cheese.
google avatar

Abigail G.

Yelp
Always enjoy my tasty treat from this Bakery! They have the best variety of croissants in the area. The workers are enjoyable and welcoming. The interior of the shop is unique and beautifully designed although sometimes when busy hard to move through (especially with a bulky stroller).
google avatar

Nia B.

Yelp
The butter croissant: 5/5 The Pop-tart: 4/5 I got them warmed and really enjoyed both items! The inside has a unique decor with indoor seating and some outdoor seating. Friendly service and fresh bakery items. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Kellie L.

Yelp
Half the time I come here. They are out of everything!!!!!!! Service is overall rude except for certain staff. Food is great when available. If you're going to get great mark ups tell the owner to keep you stocked with creamers and the ingredients it takes to make these sandwiches
google avatar

Pauline N.

Yelp
I came here to try the pecan sticky bun from the pictures I saw on Yelp but they didn't have any. Instead, I ordered the Tomato and Provolone Croissant, Jalapeño Bacon Chedder Croissant, and Cinnamon roll. Everything was decent but unfortunately I got food poisoning after from one of the items I ate. I didn't eat anything until dinner time so I know it came from here. Hopefully, you have a better experience than me!
