We wanted some Chicago Style Pizza and this was pretty close to use. The prices are very good too. We ordered breadsticks and a deep dish supreme with the original sauce. Everything was very good. I liked the original sauce better, it was more spicy. Monica liked the Chef's Special Sauce more, but both were good. We were only able to eat 2 pieces of pizza!!! It was thick!

We went in early, so there was no wait to be seated. The place is a bit dark but it's kinda cool. Puts you in the mindset of a true pizza parlor. Service was minimal but you didn't really need it so much. We ordered the meat lovers pizza and two house salads with vinegrette dressing. The salads were good until I noticed a struggling fly down in mine about half way through eating it. I sent it back with no issue and a sincere apology from the manager on duty. About 20 minutes later came out pizza. Total wait was about 50 mins. The Pizza was EVERYTHING!! It was so delicious!! Pleasing both visually and in taste!! The cheese pull was easily 12 inches long!!! It was LOADED with meat and cheese!! A single slice was more than an inch thick (deep dish). I could only eat one slice!! Brought the rest of it home in a box and it felt like it weighed at least 2.5 pounds even without the two slices we ate were missing. Definitely going back!! 10/10 pizza!! Go get you some!!

Google
Blackthorn has by far the best deep dish pizza in St Louis. The spicy original sauce with the gooey mozzarella and perfect thickness of crust is a must try. Due to being thick pizza it takes a bit longer to make but well worth it as you can relax in the great neighborhood bar atmosphere with a pitcher of the daily special beer. Pizzas are very filling so plan on bringing home leftovers which warm up great at home.

*Edited to add: Spoke to a manager regarding my concerns and they were very receptive and kind. Updated my review to 5 stars considering the additional steps they took to make sure we were taken care of. Arrived a bit before 5:00, not too busy. We were there to celebrate my birthday, so we wanted to get there early so we wouldn’t have to wait very long. We were the only people there to order, but some other guests were already dining. The bartender, Kevin, was incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome. We ordered a small garlic cheese bread and a 12” pepperoni deep dish. Kevin talked about the different sauces and was helpful with the menu. Food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was very fresh! Both menu items were tasty. My only disappointment was that a few minutes after we sat, Kevin came over and asked if we would be interested in a meat lovers pizza (kitchen error, he said it was an extra because they made another table’s pizza on the wrong crust) instead of the pepperoni we ordered. The toppings weren’t really my choice, so I declined and said we would just wait for the pepperoni. He asked if we would like to box it up and take it home for leftovers and told us the kitchen could keep it in the warmer. My husband agreed, Kevin said it would make good leftovers for the week. When my husband went to pay, we were charged $28 for the meat lovers pizza. I suppose we should have clarified, but we both assumed it was a complimentary pie since it was a kitchen error. Just felt kind of crummy when it was offered to us and then we were charged without being informed.

Both myself and my family have been fans of Blackthorn for a long while as their pizza is some of the best in town. But the manager Frank and the staff at Blackthorn went above and beyond to make a gender reveal pizza - delicious and fun! Frank returned my voicemail quickly and took the time to listen to my idea. He then agreed and we worked on how best to execute the reveal as it was his first (hopefully not last) pepperoni pizza gender reveal. His staff were great in keeping the gender a secret and watched us as we opened the pizza box to find out that we were having a girl! From the care given to my husband, our family, and I, thank you Blackthorn. We had a great meal of pizzas (my brother loved the meat lover Chicago style the best), beers, and sodas with your willingness to throw a fun and easy gender reveal. We can’t wait to bring baby girl here in the future!

I have been told this is the best deep dish pizza in St. Louis and I was not disappointed. Grabbed a sausage and pepperoni pizza to go. The sausage pepperoni and sauce were out of this world. I swear this thing weighs 15 lbs. Highly recommend!

Google
I have been wanting to try Blackthorn Pizza for a while now, and I’m so glad I finally did—it did not disappoint! The pizza was amazing. My son and I ordered a large, expecting to finish most of it, but to our surprise, we were full after just one slice each—great value for the price. Beyond the food, the atmosphere and service really stood out. The staff were all extremely pleasant and welcoming, creating a comfortable and friendly environment that added to the overall experience. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and food! If you’re looking for a place with delicious pizza and exceptional service, I can’t recommend Blackthorn Pizza enough. I’ll definitely be coming back!"

Google
First time here, pizza was incredible. Be sure to plan on a little wait for your pizza, completely normal as it’s a THICK PIE! Takes a bit to cook! Was completely worth the wait tho

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Blackthorn since a recommendation from a co-worker, years ago and I finally made it. Man, oh man! The Chicago style pizza is absolutely delicious! We ordered a medium and that was too much for the two of us. I forced a second slice because it was so good and we still had 1/2 the pizza to take home. My husband and I marveled at the weight of the pizza box with 4 slices in it. They are not messing around. The crust is perfection and the traditional sauce is spot on and that cheese! The place itself was pretty cool and the service was very good and very friendly and helpful. Loved the Gen X music playing!! If you're tired of St. Louis style pizza and want a delicious and filling pie, you must try Blackthorn!!

Yelp
I be and interested in this place after hearing about it from several people. I was expecting top tier pizza and felt rather ambivalent after eating it. The breading was thick but delicious and the cheese is amazing and there is. A lot of it. The tastes of sauce that I did get were good, slightly spicy and a unique flavor that I didn't hate but there wasn't enough of it to decide if I loved it. Next time I will order more sauce on the side to dip my pizza in if I want a little more... and I am not a saucy pizza lover but would have liked just a smudge more. I got the vegetarian Chicago style minus the olives. The green peppers, onions and mushrooms were delicious. I did miss the spinach though which I did not see or taste. the top cheese was not stretchy but rather dark and while I had expected this, I did not expect it to be as dark as it was. Let me interject here that I don't blame the restaurant for my lackluster feeling. It was my own fault. I did order my pizza well done and that is what was given to me. However with the pizza having less sauce I don't know that I should have done this because it did seem to take the middle layer is moisture away. I have had experience with pizza so saucy the middle seemed to have no crust at all, and pizza that was very mushy from moisture which I am a veggie lover and if eating a lone don't order meat on my pizza which also contributes to why I asked for well done. Overall though, thinking about the restaurant and delivering what was ordered, I got what I asked for. It is not their fault that I was a first timer unaware of these little tweaks that probably would have made my love of their pizza better. I do wish when ordering online. Which in a Friday night you should do due to the fact that their pizza takes a good long time to be ready. I wasn't planning to eat there and I ordered in advance and it was ready at the time I was given to pick it up I do wish the online ordering allowed for more customization. I realize a small business that is often busy can't do unlimited substitutions but limiting one to only being able to remove one ingredient makes one have to choose to have one thing they may not like. I would have been happy with extra spinach and mushrooms and no green pepper or olives but the ordering system only allowed me to choose one item to remove which I didn't care for but hey. That is a small thing. I ordered a 10 inch pizza and could only eat one piece it really is that big and filling. I swear that pizza weighed 15 pounds Orr better. Was it worth the splurge? Yes and no. As I said I was ambivalent and accept the blame for that lol I know my mouth wasn't unhappy, I didn't get ill, and to be honest gobbled it up with gusto. A few minor tweaks and I think it would have been even better. Now I have reviewed this way because if you are like me and considering ordering here for the first time you should really be aware of these things. Because I ordered how I would order any other deep dish and highlighting what didn't work may be helpful to others. In no way is that a reflection on the food, staff or management. I do recommend you try their pizza both deep dish and the thinner crust. I would definitely go back and likely will keeping the points. Made about ordering in mind. Likely only because it isn't all that close to me but hey, I will drive for a good pizza!

Yelp
Service was great and it was the best tasting pizza I've had in a long time to be so thick. This place is reasonably priced without a large confusing menu.

Yelp
I visited Blackthorn Pub on a coworker's recommendation. The pizza was amazing! However, if you're ordering the Chicago-style pizza, be aware that it takes about 45-50 minutes to prepare and cook. If you don't want to wait that long, I suggest ordering online beforehand. The atmosphere inside was great--nice and quiet, with the Cardinals game on. I ordered a 12" two-topping pizza, and my wife got a 10" three-topping pizza. When I say I was full after just one piece, I really mean it! I wish I had ordered a smaller one, but now I know for next time. I had leftovers for almost a week. Either way, we will definitely be back. If you haven't tried this place yet, you should!

Yelp
We stumbled onto a post about Chicago style deep dish pizza in STL. Being monster fans of deep dish, we decided to check it out. We left very impressed. The neighborhood dive bar appearance gives the place a super casual feel. Service was great. We ordered their deep dish meat lovers with their original sauce. OMG it was so good. The amount of meat on it defied imagination. The dinner got better with some Bells Two Hearted Ale, a favorite IPA. DEFINITELY a place to check out.

Yelp
The pizza here is always good and has the perfect spice! The service was okay. You order at the bar and then the staff bring the food was it's done! The restaurant had a neighborhood vibe as it's considered a pub! Plenty of seating inside or outdoor. Street parking is available! The pub is mostly frequented by the folx in the neighborhood. However my husband and I drive a nice little ways for the pizza because it's worth it!

Yelp
I would never recommend Black Thorn. I ordered ahead for a 7:15 pickup. Show up at 7:15. Told 30 more minutes. 30 minutes go by 6 other people came in and got their call ahead orders. Check on the pizza again and yes one pizza and they say at least another 20 minutes. It was clear they never even started my pizza. The go working the bar had a careless attitude. Finally asked for a refund after I never received the pizza I ordered. The guy could care less and didn't even apologize. A horrible place at best!

Yelp
Amazing Chicago style pizza right here in STL. The atmosphere of the place looked really cool as I was picking up my to-go order.

Isaac R.

Yelp
Waited over 2 hours for a single pizza on Fathers Day with only one other family dining in. Had the wrong pizza handed to us after hour and a half.

Michele B.

Yelp
Everything and no pizza should take 90 minutes when there are 3 tables. Salads take 60 minutes and service is awful. The pizza was less than eatable. Checked off our list and hope they can stay in business.
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
There are a lot of options in St. Louis and in this area, so the fact that the service here is abysmal is odd. They do not seem to care about their customers' satisfaction or don't even do the bare minimum to at least fake it (checking in, providing updates, anticipating needs). The pizza is ok. The sauce is a little spicy compared to most pizzas and the crust is substantial, even on thin crust. Note, even thin crust can take an hour and a half even when the place appears totally empty. That's puzzling. I hope this place can turn around. It's a nice atmosphere, and it has potential.

Yelp
Great Chicago deep dish pizza. We have been coming here for over 15 years to pick up pizza. Some video and bar games here. Relatively noisy. Outside seating available.

Yelp
They did it again. Had to wait awhile but I knew the wait would be worth it. Took 45 minutes to get it home. DELICIOUS......... Can't wait for the next visit.

Yelp
Since I didn't grow up in St. Louis I've never warmed to St. Louis style pizza. I tend to like a deeper dish, Chicago style. Blackthorn is the best I've found in that regard. I don't think I ever ordered at the Blackthorn and been disappointed. It is always a tasty pizza with plenty of toppings, cheese, and a thick crust. So some things to know before you go. The first is that the pizza takes a long time to cook. We often order ahead and then drive there. Typically 45 minutes to an hour is my mental benchmark for how long the pizza takes to arrive. If you don't order the deep dish that time will be shorter, but if you aren't ordering the deep dish why are you even going to the Blackthorn? The second thing to know is that the Blackthorn is a bit of a dive. It is much better since the renovation, but it isn't a fancy place by any stretch of the imagination. It is a place that you just go and chill and have a couple drinks and pizza. There is writing on the walls, exposed cement, and it can be dark at times. This isn't a bad thing though and I personally enjoy the atmosphere. I always pick to go here on my birthday. I don't love pretentious restaurants and I enjoy that Blackthorn isn't trying to be something it isn't.

Yelp
Pizza was great, but you may want to order it an hour ahead. Great neighborhood charm and polite staff.

Yelp
It's been ages since I've had a good deep dish and Blackthorn delivered! After a last minute change in plans a friend and I met up at the bar for drinks. We weren't overly hungry so we thought it would be a good time to order deep dish - you always have to plan for the longer cooking time. The bartenders poured us a couple good drinks while we waited. It was pretty chill early on a Friday night and a great spot to catch up with a friend.

Yelp
This place is great, one of my persistent favorites over the years. You get a lot for your money and the leftovers freeze very well too. If you heat them up in the oven or a hot skillet later it's almost like out of the box.
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
Love this place! It does get busy so be patient as it's quality over quantity here. I've lived in the area for here's. A great neighborhood and family friendly place with a clean/cool divey feel. I typically order carry out over the phone so I'm not in there waiting... but I'm never mad when I show up and I still have time for a beer/cocktail at the bar.

Yelp
I came back a year later and wanted to update my review. I got the thin crust one topping and cheese bread. It was all delicious. You can taste the garlic in the cheese bread and my pizza was good too. My family ordered the deep dish with all the meats. They loved it! Everything was seasoned well and we enjoyed our time.

Yelp
Some of the best Chicago deep dish style pizza around in St. Louis. Will be back again.

Yelp
Always wanted to try this place, but not anymore. The chick that answered the phone was VERY UNINVITING & RUDE!!!! Well, ya just lost a could be constant customer all because of that chicks bad customer service. Do better. Bad customer service can make or break your business. It's a shame, I heard great things about this place. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Word of advice: If you encounter a new customer that isn't familiar with your menu or how things work, you should educate. Not act irritated, and if you are from one questions GIVE SOMEONE ELSE THE PHONE!!!
google avatar

Jamal W.

Yelp
I went there one evening for pizza and wings. You have to order at the bar. They gave me a menu. There were no wings. They had thin crust and thick crust pizza. I ordered a salad, garlic cheesebread, and thick crust pizza. The bread was average. The pizza had so much cheese pull. It was great. I only ate 2 slices and quickly realized that I had eaten too much. There were games in there to play like Mrs Pacman, Galaga, shuffleboard, pinball and joust.

Yelp
Great place would recommend. Nice friendly and stuff for you to while you wait for your pizza.

Yelp
What a horrible piece of food. Notice I don't call it a pizza. It was more cheese in some dough with a hint of toppings and no sauce to be seen. The pictures shown in their site must be stock pics, because it sure isn't what comes from the building we picked it up from. The sausage itself was good, but the lack of the toppings moots that positive. Where is the sauce? I know, they are going to say that it is Chicago Style, but their version. Well, I have had Chicago Style, in Chicago, and this is not Chicago Style. It is a mozzarella cheese log. Whole pizza is what we picked up. 10" Sausage and green pepper. Yeah, no. The sliced pic is the next day where we can cut through and see the layers. I recommend staying away from this place. If this is how they do it, they should just walk away... I know we are!!! Edit for response by owner: I cooked for 25 years. I am well aware of quality product and trash. This is trash!!!! I still have half a pizza if you want me to bring it back and you can show me the quality you are providing. The pizza top is boarder lined burnt. There is so much cheese that it was like eating a mozzarella stick without dipping sauce. Sorry, but you lost this one. You defending on yelp rather than making a good product shows why I need to post this. If you run your kitchen like you run your mouth, I might need to ask the health inspector to take a visit to see if your kitchen is as trashed as the pizza you sold me.
google avatar

Yelp
I just called and asked about you all pizza and the Girl who answered the phone was rude and had a bitchy attitude so I will not be ordering or ever try your pizza because of the girl who answered the phone thank you so much.

Yelp
Yum! My First time visiting (his second) - date night. I'm not a beer drinker but the bar tender (which I'm assuming may have been the owner), nicely created me a drink that tasted similar to a shandy, which I appreciated and actually drank in full! The pizza, hot an fresh! Made to order. And all of the staff were pretty chill. Good time for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic Chicago style pizza and a nice beer selection. The balsamic salad dressing was also excellent.
google avatar

Jerome P.

Yelp
Ordered a 16 inch thin crust pepperoni pizza and a 10 inch Chicago meat lovers pizza for pick-up using their website. I arrived at the restaurant at the time quoted by the website but my order was not ready so I waited in the bar area. It took 15 minutes after the quoted online time for my order to come out which was a bummer. The Chicago style pizza was great. However the thin crust pizza was way too overdone for my liking. The crust was crumbling apart when I went to take a bite. This may be a style choice that I was just not a fan of so I will have to try it again and try to order it "light cooked" as was offered on the website. Overall, this was probably the best pizza I've had in St. Louis so far despite the order not being done on time and the well done crust. I will definitely try it again.

Yelp
My boyfriend has been wanting to come to this place for months so we finally came. They have a pretty nice size patio that didn't have any shade and a large inside. The walls on the inside have writing and a dive bar kind of feel! They also have some arcade games you can play like pinball and galaga. We ordered our drinks and beer at the bar and the bartender gave us a number and we picked our seats. They have a decent amount of beers on draft with a full bar. We ordered a deep dish pizza with bacon and pepperoni and a small house salad. The salad came out pretty quick and was good, nothing too special just your basic house salad with cheese and croutons and dressing. The pizza took awhile but that is expected since it was deep dish. It was very good. It was very cheesy with not a lot of sauce, I prefer my deep dish pizzas with a little more sauce but the sauce was delicious. The pizza was very filling too! I only ate one piece and was full. They do have traditional pizza on the menu and a lot of people were eating that and it looked good as well. This is a casual bar/ restaurant you can get good pizza at and a few drinks at reasonable prices. Just don't get too big a size in deep dish it is very filling. Will have to come back to try their other types of pizza!

Yelp
My friend ravedddddddd about this pizza here and I'd never heard of anyone talking about it (to be fair I am new here) so I thought how good could it actually be? Especially since I pulled up and it was a very laid back environment.. Well, it's GREAT not just good. Great meat. Great cheese! GREAT SAUCE. Great portions! Great prices! Just overall great! I was thinking about this pizza ever since I had it. And I am definitely the type to double back on a place next day if that's good. This is a place I wish i did! I have since moved and been craving this pizza ever since. I definitely want to come back and try their famous thick crust. I just wanted to take it slow and focus on the flavor as opposed to being stuffed full and I cannot wait to revisit. This place is definitely added to my places of MUST GO in STL! You will NOT be disappointed.

Yelp
Unfortunately for Blackthorn, who told me when I called to discuss my incorrect order that it didn't really matter that I was going to leave a not so positive review - so that's what I'm going to do. For those that will be reading this, take it for what it's worth. Yes they admitted to their mistake as to making my pizza incorrectly. The issue is it that my husband was told that it would take an hour from when we placed the initial order for it to be remade which obviously was too long from the initial order placement. What should have been done in accepting an incorrect order was to offer a refund for at least half of the price in good faith. That's not what they offered and that's not what they gave me as an option when I called back to inquire. Annie was aware of the mistake but yet offered no solution. Yes it's just a pizza, but yet it's all about the principal of the matter.

Yelp
Great Chicago pizza. Cool atmosphere. It tucked away on a corner. Happened to find it looking for another place. So glad we went here. We will visit again

Yelp
After hearing about it repeatedly I finally tried Blackthorn! It did not disappoint. Ordering over the phone was simple though I found it odd there is no online ordering system. We ordered for pickup and it was finished in about 35 mins, even though they ask to allow for 45 minutes. Pretty happy with that. We did not eat in, but the restaurant interior is surprisingly large and spacious. I would feel pretty comfortable hanging out in there. The pizza is Chicago style with mozzarella stuffed inside and sauce on top. The crust was great, the perfect amount of crisp and softness. It is very thick and filling. Not super seasoned. The sauce is VERY seasoned, even a bit spicy (but not too much). Cheese was melty and stretchy. Two slices of this pizza are filling enough to be your entire meal. Maybe 3 if you're really hungry. I had leftovers so I tried it cold and then reheated the next day. Cold I wasn't as much of a fan but reheated it was great, almost exactly the same as the previous day. I recommend reheating in an air fryer.

Guy F.

Yelp
my favorite neighborhood joint. Love to be within walking distance of such good pie. Wait can be long but it's worth it for such good pizza.

Allie T.

Yelp
I couldn't say enough great things about this place. It's got a great vibe and atmosphere, but the pizza is incredible! I never leave reviews for places but I felt I needed to circle back to leave one because of how great the experience was!

Yelp
If you've never been, just go! The best Chicago style pizza in 314. Everything about this pizza is amazing. A small will feed two people with leftovers. Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Brianna N.

Yelp
Blackthorn is everything a divey pizzeria should be: the smells, Ski Ball, friendly faces behind the bar, pitchers of beer, and even a patio. They have perfected both Chicago style & thin crust pizzas and the garlic cheese bread is so delicious! It's the best Chicago style pizza I've had in St. Louis. Whether you go in and enjoy the delightfully divey atmosphere or order in, give Blackthorn a shot for your next pizza night!
google avatar

Kiana F.

Yelp
Still like this pizza spot! The week is still pretty long, even on a rainy Wednesday, but it's worth it. I took my friend here for the first time and she loved it. We both had the thin crust. Next time we will get the Chicago style!

Stephanie W.

Yelp
It is clear they do not care about customer experiences so I suppose this review is just for me. I have been there twice in the past few months, and both experiences were horrible in different ways. The first, I found a piece of glass in my pizza. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I went to the front to alert them as I imagined the dough was batch made and more customers could be at risk. After waiting patiently at the bar for their attention, I showed them the piece of glass and about my experience. Her reply was "so?". And I said "so you might want to tell the kitchen so they can take action / remove any contaminated dough". She shrugged, rolled her eyes and said "ok, ya sure". She never went to the back. I did expect a manager or someone of the sort to check in/learn more, but that never happened. I wasn't expecting a free meal but some acknowledgement and concern for future customers was my bar for that scenario - wasn't met. Then last night, we went there pretty hungry. And knowing how long the pizza can take (however we ordered thin crust instead of deep dish), I asked if the cheesy garlic bread was an appetizer and comes out first. She replied yes and that the pizza would take an hour. We ordered two pizzas and cheesey garlic bread. About 45 minutes later, I went to the front to check in. She said it would come out before the pizza and it was in the oven. I said okay, again we want it as an appetizer so if it comes out at same time as pizza we will not want it. About 45 goes by, no bread or pizza (1.5 hours from order), I checked in. 5 minutes later a cook came out with the bartender with our pizzas in to-go boxes. And he said the bread was almost ready. I said we wouldn't want it as I explained to her. He was frustrated and angrily shared that isn't how it works. I said she assured me twice it would come out before the pizza and that if not we weren't interested. She said they could pack it to go for us. And I said no thanks. 20 minutes later I close out at the bar to which she shares the total out loud to me across the bar. I ask to see an itemized receipt where the bread was still on the ticket. I asked her to remove it, and she said "but you ordered it". And I said and we didn't get it so please remove it. In the end, caring about customers shouldn't be such a struggle. Doing the bare minimum for customer experience is above what they're capable of.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday right at 4:00 pm. We were the second party to order. Pros - Chicago style pizza is phenomenal!!!! Crust was cooked through, sauce is spicy and toppings were generous, especially the cheese. Estimated wait time of one hour was spot on. Cons - As most places, extremely short staffed. Poor guy behind the bar had only been there a day and was the only one working. He was taking all food orders, all bartending and did a great job even though very overwhelmed. I hope he made it and is still working. We didn't receive everything we ordered as it didn't get placed into the computer. After a couple of tries to check on the salads, we just gave up. Numerous people working in the kitchen but none were able to help out front. I hope on future visits we will see better staffing, we will confirm everything we want is placed in the ordering system and we hope to see employees checking on customers at their tables. We had to get our own refills on water. We didn't want to stand in line for more beer. The pizza is really some of the best we have had since moving to STL. We really hope they make it through this difficult time!

Yelp
It wasn't busy at all. We played some video games and had a beer while we waited for our pizza. It was delicious. We went to Chicago for our honeymoon so we had some Chicago style pizza for our anniversary. Pretty chill inside and offers seating outside as well

Yelp
Our family found this place and had one of the best dinners! We enjoyed the patio and the great weather. The Chicago style was amazing and the garlic cheese sticks are a must!

Yelp
This was a bad experience from the moment I called ahead. I was told that it would take an hour and fifteen minutes, so I asked if I could pre-order and was told absolutely, so I did. When we got there I went straight to the bar and let them know we arrived. We found a table and went back to the bar to order a pitcher of beer, the couple ahead of me ordered more complicated drinks, I sat at the bar and waited patiently another customer came up as she was finishing up the drinks she was making and she bypassed me and waited on the new arrival. I told her I was waiting to order a drink, she put her finger up to me as if to tell me to be quiet and wait. Besides the fancy drink couple I was the only person waiting at the bar so it's not like she wasn't aware I was there. After pouring our pitcher, she asked what our number was, I told her she never gave us one so at that time she gave us a number for our pizza order. After we waited an hour and a half my husband went to check the status of our order, was handed a to go box and was told our pizza had been ready and sitting in the window for a long time. He came back to the table with the pizza in the box, the box took up the entire table, I went back to ask for the pizza to be put on a pan. The pizza by this time was ice cold, the cheese had congealed. When I took a bite, I could see my teeth marks in the cheese. If I'd have wanted a chunk of cold mozzarella I'd have gone to the grocery store and saved myself 40 bucks. Management was aware of the issue, we ended up being practically the only table in the place, not once did anyone approach the table, apologize, nothing. A little customer service is all it would of taken to turn the entire experience around.

Yelp
Ordered the supreme deep dish pizza and I thought it was pretty good! The slices were loaded with cheese and toppings and the crust was perfectly baked. My only complaint was that the pizza was placed on a piece of wax paper and some parts on the bottom got a bit soggy.

Yelp
My coworkers have been telling about this place for ages. A hidden pizza gem in STL! Although it did take a while to get our pizza, it was soo worth it! We got the deep dish, what they're known for, with Canadian bacon, green peppers ans onions. There is a middle cheese layer just hot cheesy goodness with the perfect balance of everything! If you try this place go ahead and call in your order then head over so there is no wait time. This is the place where I've declared calories and fat don't exist, treat yo self!

Yelp
This place was fantastic! Worth noting that you order at the bar before grabbing a seat. There's no wait staff but it was fine. The bartender was nice and the lady that brought our pizza out was lovely. Okay but the food... seriously. I've only had Chicago deep dish one other time when in Chicago and this was better. The marinara had a little kick to it. The garlic cheese bread was delish. We definitely over ordered but I'm over here counting down until lunch when I can heat up those left overs.

Yelp
You know, I've left this place many reviews. And honestly, we love the pizza and the sauce is amazing. But, the service just sucks. During this visit, there was one bartender serving the entire restaurant. I originally asked for a margarita, but they were out of tequila. Then I asked for a Long Island and I kid you not, it was the NASTIEST drink I've ever tasted. They were out of all the light beers on draft and do not have much for bottle selection. And on top of all of this, the bartender was very rude. I ordered the cheese sticks and pizza before we realized the poor selection of alcohol. If we hadn't ordered food already we wouldn't have stayed. It really made for a poor night. This isn't the first visit we've had issues with the service, but it is the first time we've had issues with the alcohol. Overall, the visit wasn't good. If we come back it will be a long time. But, unlikely.

Yelp
No words can explain the pizza here. I didn't know about the Black Thorn until a few months ago and I knew I had to make it a priority to come here, despite of the very little time I spend in the South Grand area. I was very surprised that it wasn't on the main drag, and more in a residential area, literally right by people's homes. You'll obviously see the lit up beer signs and all, lol. So about the pizza? It's amazing. I went there on a Tuesday night, and there was nobody in there at all. The cool thing about it was I only waited probably 20-25 minutes for my pie, as several people complain that the wait for their pizzas here are long. I'm sure its that way on the weekends and Friday-Saturday nights. I would hate to admit that I ate more than 75% of my pizza, and didn't take any home. I have never had real Chicago-style pizza at the actual city, but its great to know that people have compared Black Thorn's to the real thing. I'm kind of surprised that the place seemed small, as in not very much seating, so how they do it on busy nights is beyond me. The atmosphere was great, as there are arcade games and 90's alternative music playing. Be sure to come hungry before arriving! I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Havnt been here in years. A lot of friends used to go here for pitchers and pizza but the service got so bad where nobody ever wanted to go there soo it's been about ten years since. The service is better they still have lost the sense of making the paying customer happy but it's Better than what it was . As far as the pizza I would give it a 4/5. Warning- the sauce is extremely strong I mean very very strong. That's why I didn't give it 5/5. I never had anything like it but to each their own if you can get past that the pizza is great. The thickness of the dough and great mozzarella they use is long and stringy and super addictive. It takes a good hour or so to get a pie made so take that to note
