Well-presented and maintained refuge for myriad shore birds and other wildlife. The staff was extremely helpful and happy to provide an overview of the welcome center exhibits and options, as well as give personal guidance about where to look for certain birds. We saw Bald Eagles, Canada Geese, various ducks, and more. The many scenic views over the Blackwater River were gorgeous. I was afraid we were going to drive off the narrow causeway going through the marshes and mudflats because of looking all around to see the beautiful views. Looking forward to going back when the weather is milder and using the walking paths and birds stands for a closer look.

One of my favorite stops on the Eastern Shore as well as Maryland in general. Always some incredible natural scenes and creatures to observe, including eagles.

Edit: Visited again this past Wednesday and had an amazing time. Hubby used his new electric wheelchair for the first time on the 1/3 mile trail and had a blast being back in nature and taking back his life! This place was amazing! I feel so bad saying that we really didn't have high expectations, but we were so pleasantly surprised! My husband has been recently digonased with stage 4 kidney cancer and some days are better than others. On good days, we like to get out of the house and explore a bit. We also recently obtained his military/ veteran America the Beautiful National Parks Pass and have goals to visit all of them! This park is about 2 hours from home and on a whim decided to head up in the afternoon! We arrived around 3:30pm thinking we wouldn't need too much time for just a wildlife drive, but there is so much more to do! I loved the scavenger hunt they had for the kiddos (and kiddos at heart)! We are already planning to visit again for a whole day!!! Don't miss this place and don't under estimate the time you need!!

Beautiful…. Love the drive in walk through as it gives you glimpse of the wildlife around you. You’re able to park and walk around as there’s so much wildlife. Sunset was perfect

Had a visitors center but went there at the worse time possible. Got there just before closing, so didn't get a chance to see much of the center. Did a quick drive through of the park and still saw some deer, herons and a beautiful bald eagle! Will definitely go back in better weather!

Totally worth the visit. If you like a moving yellow blanket of goldenrods and a swarm of bees and butterflies, I’d say visit towards Sep 7. We saw herons of multiple colors, bald eagles, egrets, ducks, wrens, warblers, finches, and me! Pack sandwiches and water. Check in at the visitor center for a quick description of the area and take pics of the maps and trails. Great place to hike as well. Ample parking available. We drove along the roads heading further south for some vast scenic views of wetlands. There were turtles, dragon flies, and very few people to make for a memorable sunset. Highly recommend.

Had good experience at visiter center. I bought my Interaagency pass here. You pay buy cash or check only. They don't accept digital payment. Lady at the desk was awesome. Kids received their activity book and small pencils. Pretty clean and new facility. The one way drive has $3 per vehicle fee...very reasonable and you don't pay if you got pass...get one if you visit more then 5 parks and facilities that accept them in a year. Picture 2 is from live cam and pic 3 is from my cellphone. It was interesting to show kids what I am actually looking at. There is QR code on camera pole. Also saw some turtles, black frogs, lot of other birds which I can't name... overall, Fun sunday outing. They are closed on Mondays.

Beautiful! We wandered upon the refuge while visiting the Harriet Tubman museum, realized that my husband's America the Beautiful Military Pass applied, and thoroughly enjoyed the drive around and the visitors center. It was very educational for our children and they enjoyed searching for all of the birds and the hands on activities.
