20 Excellent Lunch Options in Downtown Chicago | Eater Chicago

"Good barbecue in the downtown area is scarce but Blackwood’s multiple locations help make up for it. The meats are slowly smoked for hours and include brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and spicy pork sausages. Slather them in regional-style sauces and order some homemade sides for a real Southern feast." - Jeffy Mai

I had an incredible experience at Blackwood BBQ! The flavors were absolutely amazing—every bite was packed with rich, smoky goodness that really set it apart from your typical BBQ spot. What impressed me the most was how creative the dishes were. They take classic barbecue and put a unique spin on it, making the menu feel both comforting and exciting at the same time. The portions were generous, the presentation was on point, and the staff made the whole visit even better with their friendly service. If you’re looking for a place that combines authentic BBQ flavor with creative flair, Blackwood BBQ is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Stopped here on a whim and glad we did! Some real BBQ with good flavor. I had Cowboy fries with pulled pork and my husband had a Nashville Hot sandwich. We both enjoyed our food and the freshness of it. The only thing that's hard to rate is service, as you order at a kiosk, go up to the counter to get your own food and clean up after yourself. Not much service being offered, but the food and atmosphere were good.

Google
Consistently great food for a great cause. I’ve been coming here for years with friends and family, and everyone’s loves it. The gentleman with glasses and a beard behind the counter was especially helpful in helping me decide what to order. One of the best BBQ and fried chicken spots in the area especially for the price.

Google
I like how they had a sauce station, absolutely mandatory for bbq joints moving forward. We had a few things starting with the Cowboy Fries. I loved the pickled onions and pickles balancing out the fries and cotija cheese heaviness. Yet, these fries were packed with flavor. Next up I got the Fatty Brisket. I really wanted to try their burnt ends, but they sold out of them for the day. So I did the next best thing because they use the fatty piece of the brisket for their burnt ends. I really liked the brisket, it was solid and paired well with the chicago sauce and North Carolina sauce. Then I was told by one of my friends to try the Smoked Chicken with the Alabama sauce. That was phenomenal and 100% the best pairing for chicken I’ve seen at a BBQ spot. Their 3 cheese Mac was decently sharp, I do wish it was more gooey though. The honey cheddar corn bread was solid, but go with the Mac and cheese as a side. Overall, a solid place and I need to come back to try their brisket burger.

Google
I ordered the $50 combo platter, and it easily served two to three people with plenty of leftovers for dinner that night. The combo included: pulled chicken, smoked brisket (a bit tough), smoked sausage, corn/cornbread and a delicious half rotisserie chicken. I also got two servings of creamy mac and cheese and some pickled sides as a palate cleanser. Everything earns a 5/5. The staff were outstanding, the fountain drinks refreshingly fizzy, and the washrooms were impressively clean. Highly recommended.

I recently visited this BBQ spot that had a mixed experience. While the atmosphere did a great job of transporting me away from Schaumburg to a more laid-back setting, the food left a lot to be desired. The ribs were disappointing — I personally enjoy them when they fall off the bone, but these were tough and hard to chew. The burnt-end brisket also lacked tenderness, which made it a bit of a struggle to enjoy. The mac and cheese was served cold, which was a big letdown, especially for a comfort food classic like that. On a positive note, the cornbread muffin was surprisingly good, soft and flavorful, providing a nice contrast to the rest of the meal. The onion rings were crispy and tasty, though I did find a weird, unappetizing piece in my order (as shown in the picture). A little odd, but not enough to ruin the entire dish. Overall, the food was at room temperature when served, which didn’t help the dining experience. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but if you’re in the area and craving a BBQ escape from Schaumburg, it might still be worth checking out — just don't expect the best BBQ in the area.

Google
We had the family platter and got to try a little bit of everything. We were very impressed with the flavor of the smoked meats. The brisket and smoked half chicken were standout; the sausage, pulled pork and turkey were good. The Mac and cheese is the best side. The cornbread muffins have whole kernel corn and they were the low-lights. The sauces are decent. The sweet tea and lemonade are quite good. Save some room for dessert because they are delicious! This is a fast-casual type eatery where you order at a self-service kiosk and they bring it out to the table.

Google
Brisket was too dry and lean when requested fatty brisket. Brussel sprouts were great. It was ok bbq from Texas perspective. The sweet pickles were great. The cornbread was dry.

Yelp
Nothing not to love about this place. The burnt ends are some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I really wish I could give 2 and a half stars but in all honesty, the food could've been better!! My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try today for lunch. We had a late lunch at around 2pm and I would say it was somewhat busy with families eating inside. It was a bit quiet inside other than some music playing in the background. We were a little bit sad that the burnt ends were already sold out when we got there since it was what we were really looking forward to the most. The place had a large menu on the side to look at before ordering. I decided to get the solo sampler which was $20 for pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket, coleslaw, texas toast, pickles, and pickled onions. My boyfriend got the Nashville sandwich in medium. I was surprised that the solo sampler did not come with an added side so I also got the mac and cheese to try. We also got 2 fountain drinks for our meals. The total came out to be around $42 and were given a restaurant pager. It took about 10-15 minutes to get our food considering that there wasn't much of a line when we got to the place. My solo sampler looked pretty decent. At each table, there's like 6 bottled sauces to try from. I tried the pulled pork as well as the smoked chicken and was surprised by how dry it was. I felt like there wasn't much flavor and wished it was otherwise. The brisket was also on the drier side in my opinion. The texas toast was pretty good with all the meats. My 2 favorite bbq sauces were the Chicago and Memphis. The pickles and the pickled onions gave a nice balance to the meats on the sampler. I was not a big fan of the coleslaw as the flavors were not to my liking. The mac and cheese was actually the best part of my meal even though it was just a side. The top had a nice cheese crust that added more flavor to it and it was just a great side to have. My boyfriend said that the chicken sandwich was really good and filling. I had a bite and had to agree too. He wasn't a fan of the pickles and said that if it didn't come with coleslaw in it, it would've been better. Overall, I'm not sure if I would come back again. I would probably go at a earlier time just to try the burnt ends. I feel like the food was not worth the price of $40 as to how dry the meats were.

Yelp
It was not the greatest BBQ spot I've tried. The interior design is cute; however, the food was not great. We got the chips and Queso with the meats and two sides (half ribs and pulled pork with mac n cheese and fries). The pulled pork was good, but the ribs were so disappointing. It was tough and didn't fall off the bone. The sides were disappointing, especially the mac n cheese; it lacked flavor. The Queso, on the other hand, was delicious and flavorful. Pricing is reasonable for BBQ.

Yelp
Not that good. I got the harvest bowl which was expensive and I'm still hungry. Ordered brisket and it came in odd chunks- was like an over priced chipotle. Sides were lacking too. The guy working there was great however--very chatty and helpful but don't think I'll be back

Yelp
I was looking for BBQ in Schaumburg and chose Blackwood for one reason: fresh-brewed sweet tea! And it did not disappoint as it made this Bama Boy smile with its sweetness. I went with the solo sampler with my entree. It came with pulled pork, brisket, and smoked chicken. Every meat was juicy and very enjoyable. I would come back for the sweet tea and the meat. But Blackwood is part of a disturbing trend I am seeing in BBQ joints. That trend is giving a meat sampler with a side of slaw and maybe some bread for around $20. Really?! I have eaten a lot of BBQ in my life and have been to many where I can get 2- 3 meats, 2 sides (and choose them), and a sweet tea for $20. They could at least let you choose the one side instead of giving one of the least desirable sides in slaw. I shelled out an extra $4 for an amazing Mac and cheese. All the sauces were amazing! All 6 are on the table and they are NC Vinegar, South Carolina Mustard, Alabama Roll Tide White, Memphis, Kansas City, and Chicago. I would return to Blackwood because the BBQ and sauces were delicious, the menu is diverse, and it's hard to find fresh-brewed sweet tea as good as Blackwood makes.

Yelp
Shared the sample platter. What a great selection of delicious Barbeque! Pulled pork and chicken, sausage, Alabama chicken, brisket, and your choice of 3 sides, 2 cornbreads, white bread pickles, and pickled onions. You get your choice of 3 additional sides too! Their Texas bbq is delicious! It's a casual BBQ restaurant. Great for date night, family night, or with friends. Try a few different sauces, they are great!

Yelp
As someone who eats BBQ regularly all over the country, I have a well-developed palate for this cuisine. I have also competed in BBQ on a competitive level. Im including that info to lend some credibility to my reviews. Here are some specific points that may be valuable to my fellow Yelpers craving BBQ. 1. Ribs: I found them greasy and not well smoked. I prefer a ribs with a developed smokering and the meat has a some pull when biting into it. For me and BBQ enthusiasts alike, smoke is indeed a hallmark of a good BBQ joint. I didn't bother with other meat offerings because if the ribs ain't right I'm not trying anything else. 2. Sauces: Blackwood prides themselves in their variety of sauces, however I didn't enjoy any of them. The flavorings in the variety of six are off and fell short of what I expect in a good sauce. Providing more variety is not necessarily better. I found the Alabama and North Carolina selections to be inedible. 3. Sides: The bakes beans with chinks of meat and coleslaw are delicious and made up for some of my disappointments. The cornbread with whole corn kernels is also delicious. Although it was a bit crumbly. 4. Innovation attempt: I acknowledge Blackwood for their efforts to try something new with the sauces, which I appreciate in principle, but the execution didn't meet my expectations. I usually prefer a plains dry rubbed rib with a sauce that enhances the smoke meat. But the sauces didn't provide that enhancement for me. Smoking technique and sauce are especially important to me. It's also a reminder that sometimes, attempting to innovate on classic recipes can be risky if not executed well. For those seeking BBQ in the Schaumburg area, you may want to consider other options, especially if you're looking for BBQ that is more than just average.

Yelp
Good times at @blackwoodbbq in Schaumburg! We had a wonderful BBQ meal here! We recently visited @blackwoodbbq and ordered the Sample Test that feeds 2-3. It comes with brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, sausage, Alabama chicken, and your choice of 3 sides, 2 cornbreads, white bread pickles, and pickled onions. We chose charred Brussels w/Maple, elites, and coleslaw for our sides. What a great smoky Barbeque flavor! You can try your choice of six great sauces: Sweet, Memphis Spicy, Kansas City Sweet and spicy, Chicago mustard, South Carolina vinegar, North Carolina white sauce, Alabama Our favorites were sweet and spicy Chicago and white sauce Alabama. Such a fabulous selection of quality BBQ food! Not only do they have great food, but @blackwoodbbq will fund a meal for a child living in poverty for each meal that you purchase.

Yelp
Walked in around late lunch time and not busy Sunday. I was happy so I can have time to check out the menu. They offer quite a bit options of meats and even a alternative meat. We split a solo sampler, beans and fries. Two cornbreads one for each person. It was enough food for both of us. The bbq was warm and seasoned. You have to add your own sauce but they have 6 options. I am a sauce girlie so I was happy that I can switch it up. I don't know bbq sauces around the US so their options were a nice refresher. The cornbread was so good! It was soft and not dry at all. The beans had some pulled pork in them. Very nice addition to add more flavor to the beans. The fries were seasoned nicely! Good crisp, too. The whole decor/ambiance was on point for a southern style bbq joint. It was clean but had decor that made it look like a divey-bbq joint. I'd come back and get more bbq. I'd prob try a sandwich next time. They have speciality sandwiches that sound good.

Yelp
Cannot decide on what I wanted, so i went with the solo sampler. Pork, brisket and chicken were tasty and it came with sides of pickles and onions. I got a side of smoked brand which was a little disappointing. It was a little on the dry side. All in all, if youre looking for bbq in the Schaumburg area, try them! It was also easy to order, btw. Automated kiosk was available and just make sure you have your order ready rather than scrolling and scrolling on what you want, and it takes a small amount of time for people to form a line. Just a friendly reminder

Yelp
I was strolling around outside when I noticed a smoky aroma and questioned where it came from. I followed my nose and it directed me to Blackwood BBQ. Since I'm here already why not give this establishment an opportunity considering I'm in a good mood for barbecue? The interior decor resembles rusty with elements of wood, steel, brick, and concrete. In a strange manner, it's pleasant to my eyes. The layout is fluid, and the kitchen is an open concept, making the space appear larger. They feature a good-sized bar where they serve cocktails and beers. The most impressive aspect of our entire stay was that we never interacted with staff members and instead ordered our food via a kiosk machine. The service was prompt. We received our meal in a reasonable amount of time, which was great. I had crispy chicken sandwich. Because the sandwich is a little costly, I assumed it came with a side. But I was mistaken. The sandwich itself is stunning and it tastes fantastic. So various diverse tastes from sweet spicy to a dash of vinegar in every bite. I hadn't anticipated to appreciate a chicken sandwich. I'm thankful I opted medium spicy since it has exactly the appropriate amount of heat. Let us also applaud on how they prepared the chicken; it was tender and juicy, the chicken size was fair, and the exterior was crispy to perfection. If you're looking for a fast casual restaurant that serves delicious chicken sandwiches, you've come to the perfect place. As I write this review, I'm already planning what I'm going to get for my next visit.

Yelp
**If you have food allergies, read this first! I really would like to write a five star review for Blackwood, but unfortunately that would not be reflective of my dining experience earlier this afternoon. I went here today for lunch with my work colleagues on their recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised to see a public allergen menu available online for my reference so I knew what I could eat before ordering. I noticed that they had self-serve order kiosks but you could also order with a cashier. I opted for the latter since I figured they might be more accommodating for me with my egg allergy. When I mentioned my situation, they took out a paper copy of the aforementioned pdf to reference while I ordered. This also was nice to see. Unfortunately for me, this is where the pleasantness of the restaurant ended. After I selected the Beef Brisket Fry Platter with no Coleslaw ($2.49 side normally included) or Texas Toast (normally included) because they contained egg, I was asked if I wanted a different side. I turned back to check on the menu for something and asked to sub in the Smoked Beans. They informed me it would still be a $2.99 upcharge for the side addition. They offered to add "some extra pickles" in lieu, but not a different side. It is unbelievable to me that even though I had to give up half of what the dish I wanted came with (the only other options for brisket were a platter without fries, or as a sandwich--which I couldn't eat) Either way, I politely declined because the fry platter was already $17.99 to begin with. After a drink I was a bit over $23 total. I sat down and awaited my order to come up. When my buzzer rang I was given a paper fast food tray with fries in it, four pretty small slices of brisket, and a few pickles. I understand that brisket is not cheap, but I feel this serving size was extremely disappointing. The one positive thing is that the food was good. I don't say this out of guilt for writing a low rated review--the meat was tender and juicy, and the fry seasoning was great. I just can't help but feel disappointed with my experience. I don't really see the value of coming here over a good local BBQ place and get more for your money. Just keep these things in mind before you dine here!

Yelp
* The food here is amazing! Easily some of the best barbecue I've had. The pulled chicken is tender and spiced well. I also enjoyed their fries. Great variety in sauces too. * Service is amazing. Staff is friendly and nice. They are also extremely accommodating when you give instructions for your order. * Nice rustic and country vibes and ambiance.

Yelp
Waking into the restaurant you feel like your dining outside. There are lights that appear to be strung up on the ceiling. We almost tripped by the order kiosk... not sure why they would have an uneven floor area. Watch your step! We ordered the BBQ Nachos and the Solo Sampler and they were both very delicious! I feel like the portion sizes for the Solo Sampler was not worth the money at $19.99 for what you get. However, the Pulled Pork Nachos were definitely worth $10.99. We will be back again when we are not too hungry. Next time we will order extra sides to help us fill up! I would take a star off because I don't like ordering on the kiosk because there was no one making suggestions or helping us order and my husband and I almost fell on our face. The people were all in the back working and I felt like I had no interaction with anyone at all... but the food was too good to take off a star. I love the seating options... You can eat at picnic tables, high tables and a mixed variety of tables. You can also dine outside! We sat down at one of the bench picnic tables. There are lots of tvs to watch the game. They play music which I love... it is loud enough to block out any conversations at the next table... but soft enough to hear the conversation at our table. We will be back again! Our favorite sauces were the Alabama style and the Memphis style... I mixed them both... so yummy! If you're thinking about dining here... you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Located in a busy strip mall off Golf Rd near Woodfield Mall. Meats are fresh, never frozen and all dishes are made from scratch . As you enter, you seat yourself at various tables, benches,hi tops or counters. A unique collection of chairs thru out the dining area, even on the walls! You use a kiosk to order off the menu posted on the wall. They offer beef brisket, pulled pork and chicken, brisket burnt ends,Mikeska sausage and smoked Jack Fruit for vegetarians . You can have any of the meats served as a sandwich, taco, salad or a platter. Sides are extra . They offer Mac N Cheese, elotes ,beans, coleslaw ,brussel sprouts and cornbread. I ordered one of their 4 specialty sandwiches called El Gordo which was Beef Brisket and Mac N cheese on a Brioche bun topped with pickled onions and bbq sauce..OMG. it was delicious . I also tried their smokehouse beans and brisket which was not too smokey with good chunks of brisket. My wife had a chicken taco and the Jack Fruit taco. Tacos are inexpensive and are topped with pickled onions and cilantro. Very flavorful. It was nice to see the dining area crowded on a Monday night. They do have a bar offering mixed drinks, beer, wine and bourbon shots. Prices are a little high in my opinion. I would have given Blackwood BBQ 5 stars but the tables were sticky, there is no engagement with the staff and by 730pm the place gets smokey as they start preparing the smokers for the next day which means you smell like smoke when you leave. For good BBQ in the Northwest burbs, give them a try.

Yelp
Stumbled into this place when I realized I should eat before going grocery shopping. The smell alone was enough to have me drooling. The vibe once you walk in is like Southern Comfort meets Backyard BBQ with a touch of class. There are kiosks to order or you can walk up to the friendly folks waiting to take your order. You could also belly up to the bar! There's some fun meal options like your normal platter, sandwich, and fry basket. You can even super size your meal to share with others, or if you're just really hungry. I had the pulled chicken (yum), my friend had the pulled pork (super yum), the accoutrements were all delicious, but the sauces... whooaaa, they're all amazing!

Yelp
First time to try and I really liked it. Good variety of menu items. My family shared a combo platter and I got a salad with bbq chicken which came with a yummy piece of cornbread - and one of my kids got the mac and cheese. Cute restaurant, easy counter service to order while they bring the food to your table. I loved trying all the sauces they had on the table. I like the Memphis and Alabama white sauce. Next time I go, I'd like to try their pies, they looked delicious!
google avatar

Erik S.

Yelp
Decent, but the value for money is just ok. BBQ tends to be pricey, I don't dispute that. But there hasn't been a time I have been here and been like "wow, that was money really well spent!" If you're in the mood for BBQ, this is on par with what you'd expect from a chain on the outer ring of the mall - not mind blowing but it will satisfy the craving if you're knocked up.
google avatar

Kristena R.

Yelp
We catered food from here at work and WOW it was delicious! We had a great experience with the ordering process and they delivered everything on-time! We ordered the beef brisket, pulled pork, 3 cheese Mac and cheese, smokehouse beans, elote, and cornbread. Everyone was raving about the food. I look forward to dining in. I'll definitely also consider catering from them in the future.

Angel H.

Yelp
I do not know what happened- but I got food poisoning from the Nashville chicken sandwich. Something felt off about the sandwich; however, I just ate it because I was starving and was not going to let a $27 dollar sandwich meal go to waste. I ate the sandwich, beans, cornbread and slushy. Couple hours later I feel uneasy. Suddenly when I'm home, I begin throw up. I did not sleep for the rest of the night- im a mess!

Yelp
I'm quite impressed recently with the price and quality of fast casual BBQ restaurants and Blackwood BBQ is no exception. You get all the flavor and selection at a more expensive dine in, but in a much more casual setting and with the ability to spend those dollars on an extra dessert or another trip. On this trip I was able to try a few items and they were all fairly good. The brisket (fatty portion) was quite tender with a good amount of fat and had a nice smokiness infused into the meat without being too salty. One of the best I've had in the area, though the portion is a bit on the smaller side. The cole slaw is nice and crunchy, the pickles are crisp, and pickled onions were fairly flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the texas toast which wasn't particular crisp or seasoned. The BBQ nachos had a good amount of pork in it though the nacho chips themselves weren't super crispy and I'm not sure I loved the mix of the cheese and BBQ sauces (I wasn't quite sure if I was looking for richness or acid, sweetness or saltiness). But it was still enjoyable and well priced. The BBQ sauces were all fairly distinct, though maybe not as bold as I've had in other BBQ places. There is a good variety if you like spicy sauces, with a mustard, tomato based, and tangy option in there as well. However, if you're into sweet sauces or really thick ones, you won't find that here. The sweet tea and lemonade also follow this trend, where they taste fairly fresh however the flavors are a bit muted and not as sweet as what you'll find elsewhere. Overall, with a bit lower price, good selection, and fairly good cooking - this is a good place to get some BBQ after you're done shopping in the area.

Jordyn R.

Yelp
Was so excited to come here but it ended up just plain sad. We got the sampler. Everything was cold except for the macaroni and alabama chicken. Almost everything was dry and didn't have much flavor. Even the slushie we ordered was dry and flavorless. what a disappointment and not worth over $60 for two people. tell me why the breads weren't even edible :( and also why would a kiosk ask for tip when you don't even interact with any service workers. you place your own order, pick up your own food, and clean your table yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
Good service food and clean place to eat. Will be back very soon!!! Brisket was very tender and seasoned to perfection. Onion rings were fresh.
google avatar

Karri B.

Yelp
Good bbq not fantastic but good Clean restaurant and bathrooms Good service We would return for a quick bbq option. The portions are on the smaller size
google avatar

Colin B.

Yelp
The Alabama sauce here is so good you'll want to kiss your cousin. Great food and service. The staff is helpful with food allergies . Highly recommend.
google avatar

Krystyna A.

Yelp
It's not really good, they bbq sauces are just not up to par and the meat was either too salty (half chicken) or lacking in flavor AND quantity (beef brisket) It was not satisfying and very disappointing. I would avoid as they are expensive for sub par food.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Don't bother mediocre "bbq" if you want to even call it that... terrible value for money! Only redeeming quality is the staff. So many better alternatives.
google avatar

Hae Jin M.

Yelp
My son and I shared a brisket platter. The brisket was super juicy and tender. Best brisket we've had in a long time. The pickled red onion was a perfect accompaniment to the brisket as was the coleslaw. The service was not the best. You ordered on a computer screen, however, a greeting from the staff that are there would make one feel welcome.

Yelp
Amazing barbecue! Everything is delicious. Very consistent and always very friendly staff. Highly recommend trying.

Yelp
A very clean and casual bbq spot. Everything was cooked perfectly and the service is fast! Great for a quick stop or for a group outing. Lots of different bbq sauces to choose from. There's definitely something for everyone here.
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
I love the pulled chicken! Sides are yummy as well. Food is pretty quick and the inside is decorated nicely.

Heather B.

Yelp
So disappointing! The brisket was all fat! Literally threw it out. Pulled pork was just ok. Sauces were nothing special too. Will not be back!
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Easy to find (outskirts of Woodfield mall) Plenty of parking Easy access and as you go inside, go to the right and work your way down to the big wall menu. My beef brisket basket was good but brisket portion size was very disappointing considering what you pay. Wife was not a fan of the pulled chicken sandwich and wished we'd gone elsewhere. Would we stop here again? Probably not. Too many other BBQ spots that I enjoyed much more within a 5-10 mile radius.
google avatar

Carm A.

Yelp
Please note, I get to eat real smoked brisket, ribs, chicken, rib tips etc from a real wood smoker, not pellets, actual wood, during spring/summer. My favorite is Hickory wood. Sometimes Cherry, depends on the meat. Anyways this meat, was way too dry, no flavor, the bbq sauces they offered definitely were needed. There was no smoke ring on the brisket, this was definitely fake & bake. The corn was too watery and no flavor. Mac & Cheese was good! Overall it was ok. It was edible.
google avatar

Nette B.

Yelp
I would give it five stars since I enjoyed the ribs and brisket. The brisket is tender and tasty. You could taste the smoke but not overpowering. I wish it has more fats though. The ribs are perfect for me. It has the right sweetness. They have variety of sauces. Second time, we went to dine in. Ordered brisket and pullled pork. Both juicy and tasty! We also ordered the corn bread, not really a fan since it's kinda dry. But we'll definitely eat here or order to go again!

Steve C.

Yelp
We are KC BBQ addicts but we thought Blackwood does it well, we had ribs done right, however the burnt ends seemed like cubed brisket not KC real burnt ends the sides were good but not memorable. We had a big crowd and the staff was responsive and helpful

Yelp
Ordered pulled chicken platter. Missing Texas toast, coleslaw and pickled onion. Disappointed

Yelp
Thank you Blackwood for easy ordering and Drive-up BBQ. Our order was ready for pick-up in less than 30 minutes and I received it within less than 10 minutes of driving up. The young man bringing food orders to cars was hustling and so friendly. I didn't catch his name, but he was great. They have a small tent in front of the restaurant so it was pretty easy to wait in line and grab my order, without even leaving my car. Since I used to travel to Dallas often throughout the year, before the pandemic, I was in need of a good BBQ meal.still not TX BBQ, but a good meal in that was more than enough for two of us. We ordered the full slab of ribs, side salad and Alabama chicken. Both ribs and chicken were very tasty, but the Alabama chicken with the white sauce was the highlight of the meal for me. The chicken is cooked perfectly, so moist and seasoned so well. We also received pickles (they are sweet) cole slaw and bread with our order. Fun night in watching movies, drinking Bulleit Bourbon and coke and enjoying BBQ I didnt have to cook. #Yelpsbignightin

Yelp
First time here with my new family. Hubby has had the experience about this joint and he highly recommended it. He ordered the one that's good for us (4 to 6 people) since he would like us to taste basically what they have.. I like almost all of it except that chicken. The pulled chicken was fine. The pulled pork was not bad. The ribs were tender, that half slab of chicken though was a fail because it's way too salty for us. Their sausage was on the spicy side but it was not bad. Service was okay. I absolutely loved their pickled cucumbers and red onions! I was able to tolerate the elotes. Wasn't able to taste the corn muffin but I heard it was good. The toast was phenomenal I should say. Overall assessment was fine. I will still go back here given the chance, and I know what to order next..

Yelp
Everything was good except it could have been a little more clean. Our spot at the bar was sticky and has leftover food crusted to it. Other than that, our food was pretty good. My boyfriend got the Bo Woods Hot Chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I got the pulled pork fry basket and that was a lot of food for one person! Since we don't live super close to here, I'm not sure we'd go out of our way to come back, but it was good enough for a one time stop. I appreciated we could get a cocktail with our meal, too!

Yelp
Too expensive.. I've been there 3 times now on business trips.. The most recent time, I had the 1/2 slab plate which includes (obviously) the half slab of ribs, a piece of garlic toast, pickles, and coleslaw. I also bought a beer and left a tip. Total? $32.93 Why do I think this is excessive? Most barbecue places let you pick your sides.. I don't consider a piece of bread a side item, and coleslaw is the most basic side item one could ask for. I asked if I could substitute my coleslaw for macaroni and cheese (I even offered to pay the upcharge), and they said "Sorry, we don't allow substitutions".. what kind of BBQ place doesn't let you be a little flexible with your sides? And let's get back to that price and let's also put that price into context as to the kind of place this is. You order at a counter, and you have to go back up to get your food. You don't get any kind of table service, at all. Think of this as the Qdoba or Chipotle but for bbq. And each time I've visited, nobody seems to care about my opinion if my meal, or seems to acknowledge me as I'm finishing my meal and leaving. For $33, you can go to a place like Mission or even Famous Dave's, and at least get a little attention for your investment. Is the BBQ good? Good, but not great. Mission is better.. Famous Dave's is better.. It's certainly not "$33 for a half order of ribs and a beer" good. One last thing- each time I've been in there at "peak" time- right around 5 to 6pm. They're not busy.. they have probably 15 to 20 tables plus a small bar in the place, and each time I'm there, they have maybe 3 tables occupied, yet they have at least 5 employees all congregating at the front counter, and who knows how many in the back that I can't see, obviously not having much to do. My point? There is not a lot of business here, so maybe their management shouldn't have so many people NOT working, and lower their prices. If they lowered their prices and allowed more flexibility in ordering, maybe there wouldn't be many bored employees. I hope this place gets it together, because I really want to try to revisit it, is they can make a couple changes.

Mr. Tender Chicken ..

Yelp
I went there for lunch in the middle of a work day. I usually come in just for the brisket. There was no one there when I walked in, but there were a few people when I left. I was impressed by the ability to choose from 4 levels of spice for my tenders. I chose Medium (although they may have given me hot). It didn't come with any sides so I ordered fries separately. All together it came out to $13.42. I thought my tenders were pretty spicy for being a Medium as I've tasted less Medium spiced fried chicken elsewhere. That gave me a bit of dealing with determining my thoughts on the tenders themselves, but overall, not bad at all. The tenders weren't as juicy as I would have liked them to be but the taste was quite flavorful. You really felt and tasted the seasonings. The best part, in my opinion, was that in this location, you were able to use whichever of the provided sauces you like. They come out with their own mustardy looking sauce by default, but I added a sample of all the sauces and it helped with the taste.

Yelp
The food is good but bit overpriced. The service and environment feel like you can grab lunch quickly here, not a bad thing.

Yelp
This is a nice little place on a strip mall. I've driven by a couple of times on golf road and I've tried the downtown location before. Finally I had an opportunity to check this place out in Schaumburg and it did not disappoint. The interior decoration is was great, with all of the reclaimed materials seemingly fits together well. It's comical that above the cash register position, the size of a standard street lamp is so big when looking at it close up. Anyways, this afternoon, the establishment was one-third full. I chose to get the burnt end meal and the amount of burn and beat is on the moon side, 50% meat 50% fat. I almost always get burnt ends from all the barbecue joints. Without any sauce, their meats are very sweet. You do have a selection of six sauces that you could use, however I find myself using the sauce just for fries, as the meats are well seasoned already. I look forward to going back again.

Yelp
Stopped by on an impulse and left with no regrets! Blackwood BBQ is a modern, southern-suburban bbq experience. The atmosphere is beautiful. The decoration and lighting has a ton of character. There are even benches for bigger groups and a bar area! Food was delicious too! I got a Pulled Pork Plate that came with pickles, coleslaw, pickles onions, and a slice of white bread. I felt more than satisfied but not crazy full. Boyfriend got the fatty beef brisket plate. Both were delicious, the fatty beef brisket was really delicious. We also ordered a side of elotes and Mac n cheese. Both were amazing! For drinks we got lemonade and sweet tea. Both were not too sweet, which was nice. Great selection of sauces as well. We dined in! We also got cornbread and a key lime pie slice for desert. Both were yum! I will definitely be back to try more things like the Nashville chicken sandwich or an ice cream pop or maybe even one of their alcoholic beverages. Overall, I would highly recommend Blackwood BBQ.

Yelp
This place isn't worth the price of admission. You're going to be spending $30 minimum per person if you want a complete meal. (Main/Side/Drink) I've been to a lot of BBQ places in traditional BBQ towns and you never have to spend this much and when you do you get mountains of food, which isn't the case here. With that being said, this is still the best BBQ place in the Schaumburg/Suburban area. This isn't exactly a ringing endorsement though, because the competition sucks in this space. If I were you, I'd save my money and take a trip downtown once in a while or plan a trip to St. Louis.

Yelp
Wooow, Blackwood is putting out some top notch Q! Walking up, you can smell the beautiful smells of the smoked meats cooking away. I feel bad for the other restaurants near here. I mean come on, how can you resist once you smell Blackwood? I looks forward to coming back and doing some damage to this awesome menu.

Yelp
Starting off this review by saying, "I am not a big fan of BBQ" but I am open to proving myself wrong. This weekend I made the choice to give the category another chance. While these spicy tenders are not necessarily BBQ, they were awesome! Loved the rub on them, the slaw, and even tried some of the baked Mac and cheese (not pictured). The breading falls off the chicken very easily but is breaded lightly and made fresh, so this is to be expected. Not sure how soon I will be back but adding this to the list of perfectly yummy meals
