Capitol Hill’s Blade and Timber Will Be First Axe-Throwing Venue in Washington to Serve Alcohol | Eater Seattle

"After two years of fighting for a liquor license, Capitol Hill’s axe-throwing destination has finally broken through: starting Friday, April 30, Blade and Timber will become the first venue of its kind in Washington allowed to serve alcohol while patrons fling axes. There are caveats — guests will be limited to two drinks per 90-minute session — and the national Kansas City–based brand says it will begin by serving local beers and a few classic domestics, delaying wine and cocktails for now while reserving the option to expand beverages and its food menu over the next few months." - Gabe Guarente

Our family had a great time here. They were pretty slow on the Monday night we were there so our host was also our server and throwing coach. He had to do a lot and he did it very well. He was very friendly and encouraging when we were learning to axe throw. Our good was fresh hot and tasty. It's a pretty well run operation.

Google
Super fun activity- great intro and staff. Food was all deep fried and greasy. But overall a good experience and would go back!

Google
This place rocks!! We recently hosted a "give back" night at blade +timber and it was such a hit! We are raising funds for our adoption and our friends and family were so excited to come out, enjoy some good food, and try some axe throwing. It was so easy! The staff was helpful and quick. Our guest really resonated with the coaches and they were attentive and friendly. Plus the food is so yummy! The nachos are HUGE! literally shared them between three people and could hardly finish them. This is such a well run business and we love how they support people in the community. Definitely check them out for your next event! I'm already thing about my next birthday party....

Sabrina T.

Google
Such a fun place! They walk you through how to throw safely and some fun trick shots. Josh was an awesome instructor and helped boost our confidence. There is a limit of three drinks per person. The food is delicious. Try their nachos!! I can't wait to go back.

Ashley E.

Google
Truly had a blast! Josh was an amazing instructor/bartender/whatever we needed. It was simply fun. We had the Chicken Bacon Ranch Flatbread. It was so delicious with Class A service and preparation by Patrick! Seriously, it was finger looking good! Don’t just go for drinks, grab a bite as well! You won’t be disappointed.

Google
My dad and I had an incredible time! It was his first time going ax throwing. We had Rachel as our coach and server and she took great care of us. She was super proud when we hit the bullseye!

Google
Excellent staff and service. Perfect for a date nights or a group of friends night out. It’s pretty awesome and definitely going back again.

Google
Brandon is an excellent coach! This was my first time & I hit the center red on my third try! Great deal on a Saturday afternoon too! $20/pp for an hour or $35/pp for 1.5 hours! (Limited vegetarian menu and no vegan grub tho!)

Yelp
What a fun venue! We enjoyed learning how to expertly toss our axes to the bullseye. Great food and drink options and fun for friends and family.

Yelp
We had a great time at Blade & Timber. There is a good selection of a few different beers and bar food. The food we had was pretty solid and great to snack on in between throwing. The person that sets you up on the lane did a great job of explaining things and providing good pointers/tips. The space is well maintained and there are TVs set up viewable from each lane. If you plan on a visit to Blade & Timber, definitely make a reservation online and fill out the waiver in advance. It's a bit on the pricier side so I won't visit on a regular basis, but I definitely recommend it for a fun activity if you've never been.
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
Attended a birthday gathering for a friend and had a blast! Excellent coaching by the staff on how to throw, great drinks and fantastic food! Patrick in the kitchen even brought us warm cookies to celebrate the birthday. Excellent spot! Would recommend.

Yelp
Awesome place to throw some axes and have some food. Those two activities don't normally go together, but here they do. Situated in the Power and Light District of KC, this place is clean, well-staffed and just a great place to have some fun. Prices are great and you can reserve a stall for an hour minimum. They make you sign a waiver first and then they walk you through the handling of the axe, safety practices and technique. The staff is pretty thorough and friendly in this regard, so you won't feel too nervous about throwing one if it's your first time. You can order food and beverages, which are pretty standard. Overall, a very fun experience for family and friends.

Yelp
HEY Kansas City! It's time to test your ax throwing abilities at Blade & Timber in downtown Kansas City! This spot is great for birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, work outings, & more! We went to Blade & Timber for a birthday party! My best friend turned 30 & we had a "RIP to 20s" birthday party & wore black. There is a large bar and food menu to keep you & your friends hydrated & full. We ordered the pub pretzels and the queso dip. Check out Blade & Timber's website or Instagram for hours & pricing. Did I mention that you can find Blade & Timber in locations in the United States?? Add Blade & Timber to your list of things to do today!

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! I am easily embarrassed + naturally anxious so I put off trying this activity for awhile now, but tonight my boyfriend, some friends, and myself had an absolute blast. Our lady Ray helped walked us through the safety course + made us feel super comfortable. We even got to learn some trick shots once we got the hang of it all. The energy is fun + inviting!

Yelp
I came for fun with friends and a flat bread pizza from Pat. Apparently he wasn't there. That sucks. Hope he's there soon.

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Fun place! My first time throwing axes. They did great training a first timer. Service was great. I didn't eat.
google avatar

Hai Y.

Yelp
Axe throwing, cool to try. Good explanation by the instructor. Not sure how pricing works, looks like it's by the hour and also by the person.
google avatar

Yelp
So much fun for groups or dates!!! The atmosphere is more 'classy' like an uptown bar than the other axe throwing places I've visited. The staff is super helpful and friendly. I appreciated the little book on the table that gives you tons of ideas for playing games with your group. Fun ways to keep score and keep everyone involved. Even if people aren't good at this, it's STILL fun to do and everyone gets the hang of it by the very end. Food: the waffles are by FAR my favorite. Order the chicken and waffles. You won't regret it. The fries are a solid option too. They also have a great bar with good wine.

Yelp
Blade & Timber is the OG for axe-throwing, and while I loved their old West Bottoms space and all the old lumberjack vibes, they've stepped up with this new one. It's a huge space with big windows that are open on the nicer days, steel-tip darts & dartboards (I mention steel-tip because that's the real deal, compared to those clunky, 90's plastic darts that never stay in), and aisles and aisles of axe-throwing lanes. The biggest difference besides the more posh look & feel is one that's near and dear to my heart... FOOD! They have fries, chicken tenders, brioche waffles, steak & frites, and a few other tasty crowd pleasers on the new menu. Can confirm, the food is really tasty. They also have some beer & wine available. As for the axe-throwing itself, they'll have you sign a waiver and then guide you through it. It takes a few minutes to get used to, but once you do, you'll at least stick the landing. Might not get a bullseye, but I think the goal should just be get comfortable with it first. It's mildly cathartic. So TL;DR: I'm a fan of this space, the food's good, the vibe is great, axe-throwing is super fun, and it's the perfect thing to do with a group over drinks. I could totally see all the downtown companies booking this out to shake things up outside the office.

Yelp
I am so grateful that this will be an option this winter. I'm definitely gonna come year round, but that was fun, great option for a work/ team building event. I've already got it on my calendar for a visit when family comes into town during thanksgiving. Blade and Timber team were just the coolest human beings. Easy going, attentive, walk you through the axe throwing process. Much like bowling you take turns throwing axes and record your points. Even the most timid or lacking upper physical strength have a great time and are coached by the staff how to throw. Before ya know your trying trick shots, a little underhanded, one handed, great time had by all. The food was just what I hoped it would be, satisfying and definitely well above standard bar fare. Chicken and waffles, and great selection of adult beverages. I believe most if not all local brews are on hand. Darts available and if you don't want to throw axes or darts it's still a great option in the power & light district for an after work hangout/meetup.

Yelp
Had a great time and learned a lot. Mostly that axe throwing is tough stuff!! Overall this is great place to gather with friends and get your competitive juices flowing. Service was kind but a bit short handed. Definitely make reservations if possible or come early. Food and drinks available but again service is shorthanded. This is no means a cheap night out but definitely different

Yelp
Such a great way to spend time with friends! I've been here a few times, and it's been a blast every time. They place a hold on your credit card when you make a reservation online, but when you're actually there they charge each person individually. This makes the whole process much easier, especially if you come with friends. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Before your group can actually throw, an expert will actually teach your group and make sure you fully understand all safety rules and methods. I'm personally pretty terrible at throwing, but they've always been patient and really helpful. I highly recommend visiting and will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Fun Atmosphere!!! Great service and attending to the customers, if you are looking for a place to get drinks and have have some competition between friends - Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Great time! We even came back with more people and everyone had a blast! Would do it again next visit to town. So the photo booth!

Yelp
Holy blades of glory! What a FUN filled place!! Darts, good food, drinks, and of course, the axes!! Loved being able to be a part of a sneak peak before their grand opening weekend! The coaches are very friendly and encouraging, even when you are not a slightest bit of a lumber jack! Come see them now that they are open to the public, and have fun finding the inner woodsman inside!

Yelp
What a truly wonderful social location. This place just opened up a week ago and HELLO it's basically down the block from my apartment. Fresh and flavorful food came out of this kitchen tonight and I'm tossing and turning in bed cursing myself for not taking home extra for bed time snacking (yea it's a thing). The place is clean and friendly, staff is attentive, professional and super knowledgeable about all the games and axe throwing skills (if you're nice they'll teach you some sweet axe tricks). I'll be back and I'm going to bring my dad!! This is something he'd absolutely love. Parking is as it usually is in such a location in the city but we didn't mind the street parking since a good walk gets those thighs burning. I wasn't nearly as good at throwing axes as I was drinking the red wine. I'll do my best to try harder the next time around haha. I'm feeling it in my arms now. It was like arm day today! It's no wonder lumberjacks are hella buff.

Yelp
Interesting idea for a restaurant. Had lots of fun, great food and beer with co-workers. I had never thrown an axe in my life but they had staff teaching every dangerous newbie that wants to throw an axe or two. Great way to wind down at the end of the day.

Yelp
WWOOOWWW!!! This place is incredible. We were staying downtown for a little get away and decided we'd check it out for some Sunday fun. I will say that Blade & Timber KC completely impressed. The service was terrific, the food was great, and the environment was inviting, even though we brought our two young children and they couldn't throw, they were made to feel welcome.
google avatar

Aimee M.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time with the husband on a date day. We made reservations for 2pm, John helped us out. He was informative and fun! We didn't eat, I had a beverage which was yummy, did not improve my axe throwing capabilities however. Go, you'll have a good time even if you suck at it.

Yelp
Went with a group of friends for something fun and different to do on a rainy night. Such a fun outing! The staff is very friendly - my coach was Elizabeth and she was very helpful and knowledgeable. I could not hit the board AT all at first, and was getting bullseyes by the end of the night with her help! They have a few light appetizers to munch on while you play. Can't wait to go back!

Ryan P.

Yelp
Antonio was amazing, really taking the time to show us all the different ways to throw the are. We had a blast and definitely will be back.
google avatar

Meta S.

Yelp
this was our first time axe throwing. Rey was a great coach! we had a fun time and will definitely be back!

Yelp
What a Great concept ! This place is all around just Fun. Learning how to throw the axes and the different ways of throwing them. They have a bar and food also. Definitely worth coming in and checking out with friends and large groups for work also.

Chris M.

Yelp
We went as a group of 12 for an Christmas get together. Antonio was awesome in explaining and working with us on the process. Place was really clean and the environment was pretty laid back.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
So much fun!! We had a group of 5 with varying experience levels. Our coach made sure everyone was comfortable with what to do, how to safely throw the axe and gave pointers on what to change when we got frustrated, but did so in a very fun, friendly way. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Jaysha P.

Yelp
Rea was awesome! Kept our drinks full and really helped teach us how to throw an axe.

Danny S.

Yelp
Josh was a good instructor. By the end of our time I was confident I could even challenge him to a game! But we just enjoyed our time!

Tonya M.

Yelp
Antonio was amazing!! I highly recommend stopping in!!! He took the time to teach our team some fun tricks!

Yelp
Group outing or casual date night this is a good atmosphere to hang out. $120 for 1.5 hours with 6 friends makes for a good time down all the ax throwing you can handle. Not an outdoor type person with lumberjack skills no worries they have a coach to teach you and show you the ropes. Shanna was an excellent teacher demonstrating over hand, 2 hand, and underhand throws. She reviewed the games you can play and made sure the table always had full drinks and food. Not sure what your getting into well this is set up like bowling. Each group has a lane and a table but don't worry if you have to wait your turn there is a bar with beer and wine while you wait. They do monitor drinks so no one looses a toe or throws the ax in the wrong direction but safety first!! It's a great way to start off an evening before heading into P&L. And if you are the lumberjack type well...they have a league you can join.
google avatar

Sheila M.

Yelp
Food was great! The coaches were great in making you feel comfortable and was taking the time to show you the form in order to make it a fun experience!

Nate R.

Yelp
Great time with the family at Blade & Timber! Family was in town for the weekend and had the best time with Rea!

Yelp
This place is so rad!! WTF? I'm here for a work conference and no one told me how cool this is. Stopped in last night in there way back to our hotel and had an absolute blast. The manager came and showed us tips and even let me film him OWNING the axe. It was really good fun.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Not great for date night. We went on a Saturday night, not realizing that we would be paired up on an Ax lane with another group. The space is crowded and being paired up with a large group meant that throwing was rushed and even standing next to my date was a challenge. The whole place is incredibly loud so we also couldn't really carry on a conversation. All and all, not a great experience.

Yelp
SO MUCH FUN!!!! We took our daughter and her boyfriend there to celebrate the end of their finals week and had a blast. Honestly, it was a little intimidating at first but after the instruction we really got into it. The instructor was super friendly as were all the staff. We shared plates of food and my daughter said the fries were the best she's ever had. I thought the waffles and fries thing would be weird but the sweet and savory worked. It's worth a trip there for the caramel sauce. I had anticipated a "Bro-ish" type of atmosphere but totally not. The staff and patrons were watching and cheering on one another. After we got the hang of things our instructor showed us how to one hand throw, throw two axes at once, and do underhanded throws....it's addicting. This isn't one of those once and done venues. They have leagues set up and I'll be back soon. My partner said he is going to bring his staff there for some team building in the new year. The best part of the evening was when our daughter realized she beat all the guys in the group, what a great time. Do yourself a favor and get a few people together and go!

Yelp
Fun fun fun. Vacationing in Kansas City, my wife and I finally decided to try axe throwing(she never knew I use to camp all the time and this is what we would do for fun, so she thought I was just a natural). Anyway, we reserved a time online. We showed up early, took a seat at the bar and waited for our lane. There was a gentleman working there, I forgot his name. But he was from California, Missouri. We're from the state of California so that's how I remember him. Haha. Anyway, the Steelers were whooping on the Chargers, and he was rooting them on. I like when I go to a place and an employee looks at the tv and gets excited because his team is winning. Not all tense and walking around like a robot. He was enjoying it. Well he would turn out to be our server, or axe throwing teacher, or friend for the night I'm not sure what his job title that night was, haha. He taught us the rules, showed us how to properly throw, asked if we wanted food or drinks, and every now and then checked in on us and asked how it was going. Then he showed us how to throw two axes at the same time which made it even more fun. The menu is small, but the food is good. I think he described it as upscale bar food, which was a great description. Plenty of drinks to choose from. Axe throwing was $40 for the two of us, which is worth it. Towards the end of the hour and a half we were tired and sore. Total bill for two meals, 4 drinks, axe throwing came out to just over $80. My wife and I haven't had the much fun in a while. Their photo booth is a nice touch as well. Thank you for your pointers and excellent service Mr California, MO. Sorry I forgot your name!!

Caitlin Q.

Yelp
I had so much fun with my friends here! Rae was an amazing coach and helped us out with anything and everything. We will definitely be coming back.

Jill H.

Yelp
We had a great time! Food and service was great. Such a unique way to spend an afternoon!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Best axe throwing place I have ever been to. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is amazing also. I will definitely be back. Great place to host corporate bonding events. Blade and Timber will forever have my business!

Peter R.

Yelp
Rea was our coach and she was AWESOME!! She said it was her first time coaching but you never would have known. She deserves all the stars!!

Michael C.

Yelp
Amazing experience at Blade & Timber in Downtown KC. We had our Volleyball team and parents come in for an after first day of play group party. The employees were awesome and the customer service was top notch. Thank you very much!!

Lisa D.

Yelp
I stumbled onto this place last night as I am.staying at the Crown Plaza which is just a block away. The staff is really nice & friendly. I got the Steak Frites last night and they were excellent. Went back tonight and got them again to go. Ordered them with a Wedge salad. Got to my room and had fries...no wedge salad. The steak was very different tonight, not near as good as last night. It was tough tonight and cut totally different,.more like strips i stead of bites. Very disappointed tonight. I will say the sweet potato fries and salad dressing I had last night were very good too.

Karoline S.

Yelp
This place is an awesome spot to go with friends or even with your family if the kids are a little older! Staff is nice and very helpful in teaching you how to hold and throw the axes. While the menu was limited what they did have was very solid and reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Cari T.

Yelp
Group of 4. This was our first time at Blade and Timber as well as our first time axe throwing. Anthony was our coach and guide throughout the evening. I have to say, Anthony really made our time there memorable and special. He was light hearted and funny. As well as super helpful and encouraging with throwing tips and tricks and made us feel welcome all evening. Truly a great fun experience that I would recommend to any size group.
