Dinner here on 7/18/25. Easy parking. We were seated right away. Nice clean, cool comfy place. Good cold iced tea for drinks. Rolls and butter came with drinks. We each had a house salad. Nice cold and crisp lettuce and fresh tomato. We shared one enormous chicken fried steak and a side of onion rings. Steak was hot and very tender. With a generous tip our total was only $33. Schedule this for a repeat.

Amazingly delicious. The service was great!! Food Amazing. I had the catfish plate. My friend had the chicken fried steak. Full full full of flavor. If you like fried zucchini, this is the place to get. When I'm in the area, again will definitely stop back by. The wait staff were on top of things and answered all our questions. Also enjoyed reading the building history on the table menu.

Google
Food was AMAZING, staff was very nice & welcoming! O ly 4 stars for atmosphere only because it was hard to hear the rest of the table speak.

Google
We really really enjoyed our meal there and our server. The history printed on the menu or card on table was very interesting. We won’t be going back that way but if we weee we’d definitely stop there again

So if you follow me you know I eat and love good fried catfish. Blake's has good catfish. It's flakey not rubbery, the crust stays crunchy not soggy, yum. My husband had salad with seasoned chicken. They have a nice menu and if your a vegetarian they have something for you to. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Blake's will be a stop we will make on our trips to Yorktown.

The food is what you would expect at the local watering hole. It's wholesome with large portions. We discussed coming back the next time we were passing through. Unfortunately, that changed when we went into the restroom. GAG!!! It was so unsanitary and repulsive. I did talk to the manager, and she couldn't have cared less. Apparently, anyone who complains is just a Karen and written off. The manager says they clean the restrooms when the customers let them know it needs. It is absolutely not the best idea to wait until your bathroom is so nasty that your customers need to remind you to clean it. If the bathrooms are a reflection of what this business thinks is acceptable for the public to see.. I can't fathom how much worse the kitchen is. It really is sad how this place panned out. The food was good, the waitress was so sweet and efficient but the whole place was ruined with a NASTY, bugs crawling on the wall, smell to turn your stomach, bugs flying around the toilet and trash cans restroom. Pass on this place.

Google
We had a nice experience. College football was on and the vibe was small town comfortable. The dining room is spacious and can handle large groups if necessary. My wings were not crispy and lacked the kick you expect from Buffalo sauce. This was the only negative however. The chicken fried chicken and sides were spot on. Beware: They charge a fee to use a debit or credit card. Not ok IMO.

Google
Great food. Homemade fresh. Love the food wish I wasn't in a rush or I would have stayed for all you can eat fried fish. Old fashioned friendly service love the history of the place.

Yelp
Great family Cafe with an awesome menu and fantastic service! Forgot to take appetizer pic of crab stuffed jalapeños & forgot to take a picture of the blackberry cobbler! Here for the watermelon festival and starting it out right with Blake's!

Alicia T.

Yelp
Don't you dare grab fast food when you could enjoy a visit to this sweet small town! Loved Blake's. Don't let the pic deceive you about that burger-it was thick and juicy. Best fried pickle chips ever!

Yelp
The staff is fantastic! The food was delicious and the portion size was huge. Best restaurant in Luling! (Not including the BBQ places) A great place to take the entire family.

Yelp
If your traveling in this area, you should surely stop at Blake's Cafe to experience an older ambiance where you can feel the old west. The food here is reminiscent of old time cooking. The 1/2 pound hamburger was a cooked to perfection. Our server could not have served us better. Friendly atmosphere and ready to please all around. Right on Main Street, this old building takes a page out of the past!

Yelp
Very disappointed in the food. Use to be very good. $24.00 steak plate was so thin that they couldn't make it med! Potato skins looked lovely ke the day before with fake cheese. I won't be back!

Yelp
Great little spot to stop for an early lunch and it happens to be right next to my favorite Barbecue place, Luling Meat Market. We opted for a variety of downhome foods with Blake's Cafe and I'm so happy we did. Great ambience, decor has a bit of history, if the walls could talk about all the memories, the stories would be filled with tales as old as time. The food was amazing, we both opted for hamburger steak with a delicious brown gravy & juicy grilled onions. Best fried okra I've had in a while. Lucas (our waitperson) was a little overwhelmed but he managed to handle professionally the small Monday late morning rush. If you open to pass through Luling, Texas top by Blake's Cafe, you'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Blake's was a pleasant surprise. We were on our way to Houston and had intended to have BBQ at City Market. Got there and the line was to the door. We were talking with the woman in front of us when a guy in a Trump hat cut in front of us with some blather about driving from Dallas. We stood there for a few minutes and he kept going on and on and we decided to leave. His presence would have ruined any good food. Went to Blake's next door and had one of the best chicken fried steaks we'd ever had. It was obviously fresh and had not come frozen from a food service. I had fried okra too that was very good. The rolls that were served had a nice texture with some whole grain in them. Salad dressing for the salad seemed homemade as well.

Yelp
This restaurant is basically a wide open space situated in a rustic building with an old tin type ceiling. After you place your order they will bring you a couple of warm rolls on the house. However, if you want to start off with a beer, unfortunately, they have absolutely no craft beer other than Shiner Bock. The mushroom Swiss burger and the chicken fried steak were well worth what they charge. You really get what you pay for here. Check out the bill in the photo below. If you're looking for some good grub at a budget price while in Luling, this place should be on your list.

Yelp
Came by Saturday late afternoon. Food is ok .. entrees were good, sides were ok (fries were barely ok). Service is not great. Server came around a couple of times, and got our food to us promptly. And then ghosted us. I wanted to find out about dessert. We waited, and then tried to make eye contact with any of the staff loitering around the front. No, they were too busy playing grab-ass with each other. And no manager or supervisor in sight.

Yelp
They have the best fried green tomatoes!! And their stuffed jalapeños are amazing!! I usually have their chicken tenders or the chicken fried steak!

Anna P.

Yelp
Came in on a festival weekend. There were 3 hostess staff and when I came in one of them acted like she didn't want to interact. Ordered a chicken tender meal and waited a long time. Breading was burnt in some areas (picked it off) and fries had no flavor and tasted frozen, no salt. Waitress was nice. Restroom-one toilet leaking with water over floor and other toilet partially broken. Wish I head saved my time and did drive thru.

Zerah C.

Yelp
Best steak I've had in a very long while! Everything was superb!!! Definitely coming back when I'm in the area again. People serving were friendly and on point! It feels like an old western small town restaurant. Loved it.

Wendel C.

Yelp
Had the dinner portion chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. It was a good hand breaded steak, which is always better than the pre-breaded versions, the potatoes and gravy were all very good. Its a little too pricey IMHO, but it seems like just about everything is these days.

Yelp
I was so excited to write a great review for this place I visited during a LARGE gathering for a special event. The food was fantastic. I did have to get up to ask for more soft drink while the server was just hanging over a chair talking to, I presume, another worker. As a server for over 30 years, I fully expected a gratuity to be added to the large table. I did not expect the terrible attitude from the wild, somewhat curly grey haired, shorter, lady who we never saw until the end. We did not get a bill to review. We were not told to go to the front to check out. (We are from out of town.) When we did go to the front and advise of what we had, and given our bill total, we were told that the tip was already included and asked is that OK. I always tip cash and I always tip well, being service industry. However, when a GRATUITY is added to a table over six, it should AUTOMATICALLY be 15%. and it should be calculated before tax. Without a receipt, I could not tell what was done at all. When I asked what percent THEY added to our bill, we were told 20%. I would have tipped more...but that is not the point. The point was that it was a large group and they were being shady about it. They were NOT TRANSPARENT and when asked if it was ok, my response was clear that it was not... I felt as if they were taking advantage of a large group of people when they should be glad to have new visitors in town. I simply said that it is customary to start with 15% rather than the 20%. And was told rather nasty that it was policy. I asked who made that policy, and I was told THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY (rather snippy and sassily) while I was holding a handful of cash to pay with. This obviously was questionable, so I said, " ma'am I am paying cash & I don't need your attitude, I need resolution". Then she said she didn't care. At which point I told I only asked a legit question and felt as though they were being very rude and shady about the whole thing. Rather than resolving the issue, she made it much worse by continuing to be nasty, rude, and mocking with sinister chuckles. I told her, "keep laughing, I'll be leaving a detailed review that the owners won't find so funny" she proceeded to tell me that I need to leave and am not to come back. At which point I called her a B and told her I didn't plan on it. I know my hair is silver/blue but my blood runs red. I did not APPEAR to fit the clientele standard of what their small town was used to and because I stood up for myself, I was treated like crap so I gladly returned the energy. I made sure to say "see you next tuesday" while walking out, never to return. If you are a good ol boy, you will fit right in, however if you come from a good ol boy and don't look the part, you will be met with rudeness and utter disrespect. Way to make everyone feel welcome! May karma find you whoever you are rude lady, and may she be a bigger B that you were to me! Have the day you deserve! I still gave 3 stars because I know that the establishment wasn't the problem, the employee IS.

Yelp
We were house hunting in the area and stopped downtown on a suggestion for lunch. Old, worn out, dirty and nothing special. Server was nice enough, food not much better than an average diner.. (in fact some diner food we've had has been outstanding) . It will probably never be on "Triple D" any time soon. Luling is still rural Texas at the moment, but can do better on it's dining fare with a little effort.

Yelp
Went here before heading to a weekend at Old Settler's 2019. Needed a good hot meal before camping and this had some excellent reviews. Go in and there is a table of cops in this open spaced restaurant. Got a table and the service was excellent. Was thinking between Chicken Fried Steak and the Ribeye, but ended up with the later. Server was excellent, sweet and recommended the Ribeye. Got it with 2 sides and was happy with my meal, though I thought about that Chicken Fried Steak all weekend! The bread was warm and soft. The mac n' cheese and okra were solid sides.

Yelp
Oh man where to start.. The food! We had blackened tilapia on a bed of rice with mixed veggies and let me tell you this was some of the freshest and biggest tilapia I have head. It was so good that nothing returned home with us. I haven't had fish that good in a long time. The service was great and I loved the huge open space of the restaurant so you don't feel crammed in and like you're breathing everyone's air. I've been craving their fish all week and will be returning for more
google avatar

Yelp
Very quaint location! My wife believes it was once a roller rink based on the configuration, but who knows. All I know is that it was warm and cozy on a perfectly miserable day outside. The food was warm and cozy too. The catfish, fried okra, and fried zucchini were all lightly breaded, seasoned well and not greasy! Definitley worth a stop next time you're in Luling.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service were good. The booths were not comfortable and tattered. All in all, good food though.
google avatar

Yelp
My brother and I went one day and it was 7:45 pm and they turned us down. They said they were closed. I like eating there because it has great service and food. I would still go back but have to watch what time you go
google avatar

Russell B.

Yelp
Nice spot to stop for a quick lunch on our road trip. We got there too late for the pot roast lunch special but enjoyed chicken fried steak (me) and grilled liver and onions (partner). Not good enough to merit a special trip but adequate for a quick stop. Service was friendly although the cashier seemed to treat the other employees as lesser than her. We were put off by that.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Great food and super nice staff. What a gem While driving through the area. We will Certainly be back.

Chris D.

Yelp
Food was great service was non-existent. I literally felt invisible waitress did not seem like she had attitude but it was obvious she had an issue. Normally i would have flipped out but it was my moms b-day so we waited 45 min for our food and 15 min for dessert and blazed a trail - wont be back. Waitress needs to be put in check but i was not in the mood to see the waterworks.

Yelp
Blakes is my all time favorite restaurant. The food is always delicious. The fried zucchini is my favorite side. It's always fried just right with right amount of seasoning.

Dana G.

Yelp
Last minute lunch, driving thru Luling, looked on Yelp the night before, so glad we stopped! Waitress was awesome, food was just as good... if you are ever driving thru stop! I had catfish 5 stars, judge portions and all at my table of 5 loved their meals...

Zach H.

Yelp
The best thing to order is meatloaf from there. BUT unreliable on when they will have meatloaf, they change it every other week sometime three weeks, overall the food and service is real good
google avatar

John C J.

Yelp
I ate at Blake's this evening and it was fantastic. Chopped steak ,baked potato and macaroni and cheese was delicious. My server Katie was on top of everything she kept my glass full and my food came out quick! Thanks for a fantastic meal. Will eat there again when I get back through there!
google avatar

Vince A.

Yelp
The atmosphere and service here are. Great and they probably have one of the best pieces of apple pie I've ever tasted, but I'm afraid they are using prepackaged ore frozen foods from a supplier, for instance the chicken wings.

Mack Q.

Yelp
The place hasn't been cleaned or repaired in over 20 years. Filth everywhere and torn worn out booths and broken furniture. The salt shaker was so filthy it stuck to my hand and the restroom door is so dirty, from people pushing on it, you can't even see the paint. The food is mostly breaded and fried. The salad comes out of a bag. Only redeeming thing in the whole experience was the wait person was very good, and was way over worked because three workers did nothing but talk at the checkout counter, while this poor girl worked her butt off. Does not recommend

Yelp
Just had lunch. Three of us. 2 had fried chicken. One patty melt. Food is well prepared, tasted great, very generous servings. Just traveling through but if we come this way again, we will come back.

Yelp
Sometimes when you're on epic road trips you find treasures and sometime you hit dirt. This place was not a treasure, but I'm not sure I'd call it dirt. It's in a sleepy little town in Texas that we happened to stop at during our trip to grab a bite for lunch. The interior consistently reminded me that we were in a little old town, but the staff was peppy and prompt, some even with funky hair styles. The menu was exactly as I predicted, except they did have fried frog legs, which our daughter promptly ordered of course. I got the grilled catfish with black eyed peas, hushpuppies, and salad. My man got a smothered steak patty with a gratin potatoes and fried zucchini. My salad was pretty pathetic and between the three of us we didn't even finish it. The food was pretty bland too- not much flavor to talk about. I think the potatoes, mashed and a gratin were both made in house but the green beans were canned. The fried zucchini was light and enjoyable. Can't say as an out of towner I'd stop in here again if I was driving by. However the locals seemed to enjoy it.

Ginger R.

Yelp
They have wonderful food and good service. Really disappointed in their limited hours. It's the only cafe we have in Luling right now.

Marina F.

Yelp
Amazing food. Great service and the waitresses always attend to u. Great seating and very nice place overall

Helen O.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch while travelling to San Marcos. So glad we did. The food was delicious. There were three of us and we all had the fried catfish but with different sides. Awesome fish. Okra was very good as was the hushpuppies and onion rings. Green beans were seasoned to perfection. Our waitress, Cheyenne, was very attentive and personable. Great experience and I highly recommend Blake's Cafe if you are in the area.
google avatar

JoAnn O.

Yelp
I had the Chicken Fried Chicken with Au Gratin Potatoes and Green Bean. he chicken is full of gristle and almost uneatable. The Au Gratin Potatoes is under cooked. I think instead of raising the price they choose to cut quality instead. My husband did like his meat loaf but not much about his sides. The service is very good.
google avatar

Sabrina H.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on our way through. We really wanted a small town, ma and pa place. Sadly this place has fallen short. The food has no flavor, bland. My $12.99 meal and the best part of it was the free bread and sweet tea. Taking pretty much all the food with me in hopes I see a homeless person to give it too. They still allow smoking inside, this particularly doesn't bother me as I am a smoker, but not inside. However, I thought I'd let others know.

Yelp
The thing about living in suburbia in a growing town is the loss of those good ol' diners with down home food. On our toad trip to Austin we stopped in Luling at Blake's Cafe. Located in historic downtown Luling, it's not much to look at from the outside, but inside it brings back memories of the ever-disappearing small diners. The menu was as I expected, which was fine. I chose chicken fried steak with fried okra, and my wife had catfish and fries. Both were served by an army of small-town Texas cuties and were delicious. I should have known better than to get a side salad and should have opted for one of the other down-home good cooking sides. The only thing missing was the dessert case, but all in all it was a pleasant meal with attentive staff. We'll be back the next time we're in the area.
google avatar

Judith G.

Yelp
The Chicken fried steak was good and the onions rings are perfect. Good portions and a bit on the pricey side for a small town.
google avatar

Yelp
Good news, they fired the goober that was rude!! So, they are back to having a fabulous staff and wonderful food!!!
google avatar

Yelp
They serve american comfort food. The chicken fried steaks are amazing and the hamburgers are good as well. And my favorite is the rib eye.

Yelp
Came here last night with my family for dinner. My first time coming here. I ordered chicken fried chicken was good with mac and cheese and salad as my sides. Rolls were yummy! I liked the sweet tea and waitress was attentive. I will definitely return!

Yelp
We found this spot on the fly and I was so happy we did. Their staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious!! Everything was made from scratch which is what I loved the most. Whenever I go back to Luling I will definitely stop at Blake's Cafe.
google avatar

Richard K.

Yelp
This is quite the spot, packed for lunch. Third time have been here and won't be the last. They have good wholesome food at good prices, and really enjoy the ambiance and down home feel. The first time I came was turned around at the door by management I think. Only because the power went out to whole block of restaurants. Since then have come back two more times! Have had both the chicken fried steak, which is house made and well above average in taste, and the beef tips lunch special, which had a similarly good flavor. Both times the sides I've had were OK, nothing stellar nor particularly bad but could tell they added spices and flavorings to make it tasty. Wait staff and everyone I've dealt with is pleasant, wait times are not long, even when busy. This restaurant was recommended to me by a local, I see why, and well recommend this place wholeheartedly!
google avatar

Chad W.

Yelp
Staff was really nice and provided good service. Our veggies were canned, and the staff admitted such. We love finding small town country cooking for that homemade taste. We could have done canned food at home. Desert was good and the place pretty neat, but I wouldn't be back.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Wonderful!! Perfect small town home cooking!! At an extremely reasonable price, service was good too! (Tables and bathroom floors was a bit sticky but can't take away a star for it)
google avatar

Cathy B.

Yelp
Decided to take a break from BBQ and try something new. Blake's did not disappoint. Awesome chicken fried steak and fried okra were fantastic. The place was clean and had good service. Four stars because the green beans were bland and the Mac n cheese tasted like store bought.
google avatar

Orelia G.

Yelp
Coming from Houston looking for a warm chicken fried chicken and let me tell you guys!!! The chicken fried chicken was theBOMB!!! The staff was so nice and great customer service!! I love the antique saloon look! Love it!!
google avatar

Kristina K.

Yelp
Needed a bite to eat driving home from San Antonio back to Houston, somewhat limited on dining options and didn't want fast food. Really wanted breakfast but settled on lunch and Blake's opens at 11 for lunch & dinner. Old historic building, tucked back in a sleepy town. The restaurant does have a smoking section which kind of hits you once you walk in the door but we arrived before a crowd. Waitress recommended the chicken fried steak so ordered that and a few appetizers. The onion stack was good, and the fried mushrooms were what earned my praises. I got a large order and it was more than we all could finish. But they were mega tasty, some of the best I've had. They had a kids menu and we ordered a pizza which was like one you could microwave at home but the appetizers filled us so it wasn't that big of a deal. Get the fried mushrooms!

Yelp
We love to stop here when we are in town. Ran in for a quick lunch & it was just as good as we remembered. I love the chicken fried steak. It's real, not frozen! Both my husband & I enjoyed our lunch & were glad we stopped in.
