Blanch House | Best places to stay in Brighton

"Brighton’s original boutique hotel passed into new hands in 2021, and after a thorough revamp, the sleek Regency-style property is back to its elegant best. Rooms are light, airy and unfussy, with nice touches; Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, hand-made biscuits and super-comfy beds. There’s no restaurant, but the chic champagne and cocktail bar – all burnished golf armchairs and coffee-coloured walls – is a great place to start the night; expect a young, hip crowd ready to make the most of Brighton’s buzzing nightlife. Absolutely beautiful hotel, with spacious, rooms, gorgeous sitting room and bar in the front, and lovely breakfast room. Bathroom was also large and shower was great. Every member of staff was so lovely, polite, friendly, even just during small exchanges in the hallway - they made it feel like a five star hotel. Breakfast was perfect. On any future trips to Brighton this will be where I stay, and I’ll recommend to anyone else visiting!

All the staff were very kind and welcoming to this old trans woman! I like the old-world charm of the building and the lovingly decorated rooms, all of which have a unique character. The breakfast was plentiful, and the service was efficient. I really do enjoy my visits to Blanch House. This was my fourth occasion and I shall return next year!

We were allocated a "superior" room (Harlequin). Tbh, I wouldn't really class it as 'superior', but it was adequate and clean. |Positives: Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, happy to provide fresh milk and ice/chilled water for the room. The room had a huge comfortable bed, clean bedding and good sized clean white towels were provided (2 x bath sheets and 2 x hand towels), with tea/coffee makings. Bath robes were provided (which we didn't use). Continental breakfast was included (with a chargeable option for cooked if you wished), but we found the continental to be adequate; (cereals, fruit juice, toast, ham & cheese, fresh fruit, croissants, jam, honey, marmalade, marmite) with freshly made tea and coffee. The location was good, with the seafront at the end of the road and easy walking distance to the pier and other attractions and buses could be got at both the top of the road and along the seafront.|Negatives: Our room was up a few flights of stairs so I was hoping for a nice view, but sadly it was just backs of houses and roofs. The room was on the small side and the toilet/shower room was tiny, with just a very small shelf and nowhere to hang the hand towels. There was an old wardrobe with just 4 hangers and a stiff old drawer at the bottom. It was during a heatwave and the fan provided was old and ineffectual, so it was very hot and stuffy at night, which made sleeping difficult. The breakfast room was in the basement, which was a bit dark and dingy, but I guess that's how the houses are in this area.|All that said, the we got a good deal on the price and wouldn't be averse to staying again.

The positives are really friendly staff, good location and reasonable price. The negatives are the noisy doors (guests in the next room going in and out at 1am kept us awake) and the Orchid room has such a small bathroom. We stayed a couple of nights which was fine but if you were staying longer I would choose a larger room.

From the moment of booking to leaving after breakfast our over night stay was effortless. This hotel is very welcoming. Staff are friendly, helpful and cannot be faulted. Our room was comfortable with tea and coffee provided with quaint decor. It has full bar in the reception and a complimentary continental breakfast was lovely. 5 minute walk to the pier and 14 minutes to the station. Would I come back? Definitely x

With the intention of spending our weekend in Brighton, my friend and I ran into issues with the accommodation we had booked in advance due to mold in the showers and rooms. By sheer chance, we came across the Blanch House on a last-minute booking website—and needless to say, we should have chosen to book there from the start. The rooms were impeccably clean (the host even offered to show us the room before confirming the booking), breakfast was included, and the location was excellent—just a short walk from the pier and the beach. Lydia and Valentina, the two staff members, were both lovely and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. The only default is how noisy the pub nearby can be - something that is however out of the hotel's control, but still has to be mentioned. But if I return to Brighton, I will definitely book here again!

Stayed here with my wife over the August bank Holiday weekend. We had a fabulous stay . The room was perfect as was the wonderful breakfast. More importantly the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. A real credit to the business. Thank you all

Excellent hotel with super friendly staff. The room was small but has everything you need, and the design is perfect. The continental breakfast was tasty with a good choice. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I've been here for a few times, but last Saturday, my best friend and I went for dinner. We went straight to our table as we were starving, and had almost all of the place to ourselves. It's not huge (maybe 12 tables?), but the bright, airy decoration makes it seem open and not at all crowded. We were told that the corner table we wanted wasn't available, but our waitress swiftly jumped in and said she'd re-arrange things so we could sit there. Nice start. Looking at the menu, I didn't fancy any of the starters so we both dived straight into the mains. I had sirloin of sussex beef with garlic mushrooms, dauphinoise potatoes and a wine & rosemary sauce (and a side of green beans). It was delicious. I have to say my steak was maybe a little overcooked for me (I like medium rare), but it was so tasty that I didn't complain. Rare for me when it comes to meat. My friend had fried breaded halloumi with sesame seeds, celeriac and truffle purée, baby spinach, garlic wild mushrooms and red pepper & lentil sauce. Goodness me! It was *delicious*, and the chef even made her up a side of dauphinoise potatoes because she loves them so much. Prior to that we devoured a decent-sized home-made roll as well. Plus, we had the house red, which was a weighty merlot totally under-priced for how nice it was at £19 a bottle. Finished off with an espresso each, and we shared the amaretto & amaretti biscuit parfait with griottine cherries plus almond tuille. Best bit of the meal for me. It honestly makes my mouth water just thinking about how good it was. Somehow, we only ended up paying £32 a head for that. Incredible value, especially as it included 12.5% service! Michelle and I have spent more on basic takeaways than that, and this was divine! We finished our wine in the bar, which is small but perfectly formed with some super-knowledgeable barmen with smiles all round. Two shots for £6 later, and a super recommendation for 'the second best bar in town' - and we were on our way. I have stayed here previously, and the experience was just the same. Each room is unique, and perfect for a romantic getaway for a special occasion - or if you've got some cash to spend! As Samantha C. says below, the rooms are pretty pricey. However, for such a dash of luxury with great food and staff thrown it, it's totally worth it.

Yelp
Championed as the makers of the best Martini and the best bar team in the UK, I felt I had to see Blanch House's award-winning bar for myself. It is hard to feel disappointed. The bar itself is the perfect intimate size and design, all deep reds and black with a vantage point of the bar tenders from every seat. Their friendliness and mixing capabilities are hard to ignore too, making the experience all the more relaxing and entertaining. Now on to the drinks. Well, I'm no Martini expert, but their straight up, made with plymouth gin (or wyborowa vodka, your choice), certainly got me going for the evening, it was delicious - and strong. My personal new favourite though is the Polish Spring Punch: Wyborowa, Chambord, Raspberry purée, fresh lime, Gomme and Champagne. Beautifully presented and although a little more expensive than even a London bar at £8.50, it's worth it just to be there.

Yelp
We loved it here. Brighton is one of our favourite places to go, so it's great to have a place to stay when you visit. We stayed in the "Alice"-room and it delivered! I felt as if I was in a fairytale, so beautifull. The personel here was so helpfull and friendly, they helped with whatever they could. Breakfast was amazing and they offer almost everything you could wish for when you're in England. Great place to start your day out in Brighton and surroundings. Only 1 thing bothered me and that was the lack of parking space, but that is the same with all the places here in Brighton, so that's not the fault of the hotel. Just a notice as reference for future visitors ;).

Yelp
This is an absolutely fabulous hotel for those of you with a reasonable disposable income, as rooms are between £100 and £230. Situated in the fashionable Brighton area of Kemptown, the hotel offers an AMAZING cocktail bar (and lessons!), spa treatments and an uber cool restaurant. The cocktails are really unusual but their all fan-flippin-tastic, Kermit's Lily is particularly fab. The venue is unbelievably cool and stylish, each room has an individual theme and they have certainly made the best of every inch of space. They also have a mini fine dining restaurant that is reasonably priced at roughly £15 for a main. Its such an individual hotel and has so much to offer, its an amazing place for special birthday celebration drink or an mildly extravagant weekend away.

Yelp
We were looked after from the moment we arrived. The rooms were beautifully decorated and so cosy! Breakfast (included) was wonderful and extensive menu to choose from too! Perfect location just by the new pier. Thanks again for a great stay, brilliant value for money.

Yelp
Tucked away in a quiet street off the sea front is an unassuming building which looks like all the other Regency buildings around it. Open the door to Blanch House however and you suddenly find yourself transported back to an era when style really mattered. No detail has been left untended - not least the cocktail list - which has been created to impress. A wide array of exotic and unusual sounding ingredients have been put together to sublime effect. It's exactly why we're starting the night here - you'll want to remember the night you had Talisker, asparagus spirit, lemon bitters, egg white and lemon juice in the suitably named Aspergers Syndrome cocktail. Or, considering your location, how about a flamboyant Oscar Wilde which includes Hendrick's, Peychaud's bitters, absinthe and champagne among other things?
