NYC-Born Blank Street Coffee Edits — But Continues to Expand — D.C. Presence - Eater DC

"Blank Street recently closed its months-old Shaw cafe to the public and transformed the address into a permanent training lab for its D.C.-area baristas." - Tierney Plumb

I needed to attend a company wide meeting close by, so I popped into this cafe because I still had a half hour to kill. I ordered a small sized matcha latte, and it had a really earthly taste to it. It was the matcha tea itself that was different for me. I would highly recommend it! I also wanted to grab a small bite to eat, because sometimes these meetings drag on into the e afternoon, and one can never be sure if lunch will be provided. I got the almond croissant, and it was good as well. The is place has a cool vibe and they also provide free WiFi which was convenient. I enjoyed it!

Yay! The 7th street location is finally open! Popped into blank street this morning and I’m so excited they’re here. There aren’t too many coffee spots around so it’s nice having other options than st**bucks. The staff was so so friendly, helpful and I now have a new favorite drink! It’s very cute inside, no indoor seating but maybe they’re still setting up. The pistachio latte is SO GOOD! And the almond croissant is so yummy. My one gripe is the croissant is $5.50 which is insane because it’s probably .10cents to make but anyway. Definitely will be going back!

This location hasn’t been open on time on multiple occasions. I like to stop by on my way to work as it’s the closest one to me, but it’s not open during the time stated on Google. I did see someone in the store once but she did not acknowledge me. She could have at least told me the time she will be opening the door. it says 7:30 am on Google and if it’s different it needs to be updated. Unacceptable!

I really like using their app and walking in to pick up a great cup. Nice and reliable Starbucks alternative which I have been seeking.

The good coffee and croissants were gone before I thought to take a photo. Blank Street Coffee is really nice. I shall return!

So glad to finally have a friendly coffee shop in Shaw. I just started a new job in the area, and have not had good customer service at local coffee shops. The staff is always kind, asks if the sweetness of my coffee is correct, and anytime I get a pasty ask if I want it warmed up. I will always stop by this spot for my morning coffee! Thanks Blank Street!

Baristas are so sweet, but unfortunately the coffee is not very good. My oat latte tasted like hot oat milk with *maybe* a hint of coffee. And the big is much more of a medium/regular coffee size. Save your $6 for a DC-based coffeeshop

Yelp
First time walking by a Blank street in DC and read about the founders story. The staff called out they recently opened and that the concept is to provide affordable coffee. Now I'm not an everyday coffee drinker therefore I'm not "picky" as I only have coffee on weekends. This coffee was $2 bucks, no other place in DC offers this. The coffee was exactly what I was searching off, great quality at a great price.

Yelp
Vibes are nice and fun in here especially the barista that was super friendly and helpful. Our lattes were made a bit too quick :o The pistachio latte and strawberry and creme latte were okay.... could use more coffee/espresso taste. The flavors were not bad, but almost tasted like creamer or like a weird artificial aftertaste.

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop... had the cappuccino and the Parmesan kale scone, which were both good. Unfortunately there is no customer restroom, which is not good; no electrical outlets; and no recycling bin. It would also be great to see raw brown sugar readily available. Not a bad place otherwise.

Yelp
4 stars for the lattes we've tried. The quality of the espresso is just ok, but I have enjoyed the flavors and they have some unique ones that you won't find elsewhere (pistachio, hot honey). Not overly sweet. We've gone early so no lines, and service is very friendly and fast enough. They do allow dogs in the shop which is nice, and have a selection of pastries (their focaccia is from green almond pantry).

Yelp
First time at Blank coffee was impressed. I got a half caf vanilla/brown sugar iced latte and got the large thinking it was too big but it turned out to be just right. The barista was also very nice and helpful. Excited for the 14th street location to open soon.

Yelp
This was not a constraint for me as I was in here only briefly, but worth mentioning for others: This place has neither a bathroom nor any outlet (nor, for that matter, wifi, but that's less of a problem). I wanted to sit cosily doing some work, but the reason I left quickly is something about the acousitcs of the space: Somehow one hears other customers pretty loudly even when their voice is very toned down. So while working I ended up hearing a log saga of a woman who was being with all likelihood cheated on by her husband, and the comforting responses of her two friends, during their coffee before heading out to their yoga class. It was all a bit sad and heavy, so I felt I needed to leave. I had an almond croissant, which was truly delicious, by the standards of DC coffee shops. The one star less is for the bathroom and outlets. The adultery thing was just random social commentary on the side that of course has nothing to do with the coffee shop.

Yelp
Nice looking place but the espresso is some garbage. Watery, thin, devoid of flavor. Also, what coffee shop only carries Stevia as a sweetener? On top of it, the coffee was cold. I won't be back.
