Loved it , been on my list for ages and didn’t disappoint . The services was attentive without being intrusive. The food was beautifully cooked and the attention to quality goes down to the butter . Portions are generous too. Will be back

A taste of Paris in London. Concise menu with ample specials and if course a deep wine list and inviting bar.

This dining experience brightened my day with delicious food, great service and tasty wine options. Caught up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. I started with the wild mushroom croustillant, followed by salmon fish cake with Hollandaise sauce, spinach and salad. Apple Tarte Tatin with espresso for dessert. My friend had the duck foie gras and a steak for mains. Highly recommend the Bleeding Heart Bistro if you’re around the Farringdon area.

Every member of staff was kind and attentive. The utmost care was taken to make sure we had a lovely experience without feeling suffocated. The food was delicious, fresh and reasonably priced for quantity and quality. The ambiance is excellent as it give you the sense of being in a small French bistro somewhere of the beaten path as opposed to the middle of London. If there’s one thing I can recommend it’s to get the fries they are to die for!

Delicious menu in particular the tarte tatin is heavenly. Plenty of staff, very attentive but not over bearing. Will definitely make it a regular when in London - 100% recommend.

First things first, the Bleeding Heart Bistro is not the same as the Bleeding Heart Bar & Grill though they do sit just across the yard from each other. It’s amazing how many reviews here are written for the wrong venue… just make sure you know which venue you are actually going to/making a reservation for. The food was fantastic, with service friendly and welcoming; though the wait between our starter and mains was a full 50 minutes, which is a bit long to go on a bowl of soup. Not a place for a quick dinner, though in true French style I think they really want you to relax and enjoy the culinary experience so I wouldn’t hold it against them. Automatic points for the ancient yard location, lending a real olde London flavour to the atmosphere. They trade off the gruesome “history” of Bleeding Heart Yard on the front of the menu, though (spoiler!) Elizabeth Hatton is recorded as dying of natural causes. The actual “victim” in this very yard was a different Lady Hatton from a story published around 1837 involving a pact with the devil… Bleeding Heart Yard also features in Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit as the home of the Plornish family. Imagine sitting here reading the novel over a glass of wine. Heating outdoor seating available in addition to the rustic wooden interior. If you found my review or photos helpful please leave a quick thumbs up 👍 Merci beaucoup!

Tradition holds true! These guys were and still are the best. Food and service are on point and they just know how to run a restaurant. Loved it! 15 years since I last went here and it’s just as good as I remember

Yelp
The bleeding heart courtyard has a lovely atmosphere when it is not crowded. Service was great and timely, and the food was fantastic when I visited. I read about reviews saying certain food was dry /not crispy /not fresh but when I visited the food was fresh, crispy, with lovely flavours. The set menu is definitely worth trying: 2 course for £18 and 3 course for £23.

Yelp
I loved our meal here. It happened to be a gorgeous sunny afternoon and we sat down for a leisurely lunch outside. It felt like we were in France! I started with the asparagus with poached egg. The egg was perfectly runny in the middle and the asparagus paired well with the grainy mustard vinaigrette. The main was a pea risotto. This was tasty but the peas tasted frozen. The sorbet was nice, particularly the strawberry. Grab a table outside for a leisurely meal if it's a nice day. It's a great way to pass the afternoon.

Yelp
Got the £19.50 set lunch w my date for our shared birthday celebration. Service by a heavily accented french man was attentive and enthusiastic. Waters were refilled regularly and the table bread and butter were delicious and promptly reduced to crumbs. We both started with the grilled mushrooms on sourdough bread w poached egg bordelaise - generous portion of mushroom on baked, olive oil soaked carb slab. She had the artichoke risotto and I the pork cutlet. The former was creamy and just the right amount. The latter was a bit sweet w the pomme mouseline and calvados sauce; it was also enormous - I could only finish half! We split a bottle of the Sauvignon blanc to top it off. Great value, good food, excellent ambiance.

Yelp
Restaurant has 3 different venues: Restaurant, Bistro, Tavern. I went to the Bistro with a group of friends. The Bistro seating and menu is less formal and our group sat at a comfortable round table. Service was good and we had a great time (possibly helped along by the stop at the pub earlier). Unfortunately, I thought the seating and service were the high-points of the place. Not sure if they named this place Bleeding Heart hoping for some excessively sympathetic reviews of their food, but it won't work on me. Food was 'ok' to 'blah' based on my experience: -- 'ok' -- I had the duck salad to start, which was pretty good. -- 'blah' -- For my main, I had the pan-fried skate which was terrible - it didn't taste fresh at all. The taste of bad fish is now the one memory I'll have of this place. Kinda like how the smell jagermeister shots at a bar makes me a little queasy remembering the hangover from the last time - funny how food memories stay with you like that. So Bleeding Heart = Bad Fish in my mind now and forever. Doesn't mean I won't ever go back here, as it might have just been bad luck for me that night with the fish -- but I definitely won't have the fish and I might get a little queasy getting in the door.

Yelp
I've been the subterranean restaurant before and was a big fan (especially as I wasn't paying) as the underground decor suits rich French foods and complex red wines. Today we went for lunch at the Bistro and had a different but good experience. The food was standard bistro fare but well done. Lamb steaks, steak haches, etc. etc.. Our meal was slightly over shadowed by mistakes; drinks not brought, wine on the bill twice, steaks well done not rare but despite this it was still enjoyable. In the end whether you like the Bleeding Heart restaurants depends on whether you like the French restaurant experience. You turn up, they speak French to you, you respond clearly indicating that your GSCE French doesn't enable anything beyond "merci", despite this they perservere, and do they perservere; even when you don't understand the specials and definitely don't get their explanations of the food. Some may find this beyond annoying but I quite enjoy it as I find it a transporting experience.
