"Are you sure you want to eat there for dinner tonight? Whose idea was it? Why do you want to eat there while there are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the OC?" I was very skeptical. I've driven by this place so many times in the past five years after I moved to the OC and every time I wondered why this place hasn't gone out of business yet. I am not saying I am pessimistic, but every time I passed by during the day or even at night, there was not many cars outside. Mmmm... but last time we dined there, it seemed that they were still in business.
My friend's aunt talks about this place million times and their delicious food. I can't believe that old Vietnamese people actually eat here. Is it a club? Is it a bar lounge? Is it a restaurant? I am confused. In my mind, the food tastes so bad that I believe that they should rename it Bleu Dancing and Restaurant. Come to dance, not to eat.
So, we ordered pho, bun thit nuong cha gio, grilled salmon rice, and steak. I didn't try the latter two dishes, so I can only tell you about the first two. My pho broth was so bland that I had to dump in a lot of hoisin sauce. The noodles were overcooked, it stuck on to each other and compiled into a big chunk. Being a Vietnamese restaurant and serving pho on the menu, they totally disregard the other kind of greens besides basil leaves and sprouts. I was so disappointed. I did not finish my pho and had to stuff myself with sushi afterwards. On the other hand, the boyfriend loved his bun thit nuong cha gio (charcoal grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli). He described the egg roll as home made fresh, crunchy, and delicious filling.
Still being confused after I dined there last week, but one thing I know for sure I won't be coming back here for a Vietnamese food fix in the future.
