The 20 Best LA Bars With Activities

"Back before the arcade bar became a concept a bunch of people in Brooklyn swear they invented, there was Blipsy Bar. The Ktown dive has been around for years, and while it’s not the most impressive arcade bar in town, it’s definitely the most fun. There are tons of old-school pinball machines, Donkey Kong, Rampage, Punch-Out, and even enough room for a tiny dance floor that gets wild in a hurry. Cash only." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren

13 LA Bars You Aren’t Completely Sick Of Yet

"Long before the arcade bar became a thing kids in Brooklyn thought they invented themselves, Blipsy was just a dark dive bar on Western with some pinball and Donkey Kong in the back. Guess what? It still is. Expect zero lines, no fancy cocktails, and a bar full of people who are actually there to play retro arcade games. Warning - it’s cash only, but there’s a coin laundromat next door for all your quarter needs." - brant cox

Google
The absolute best combination of dive bar and arcade you could ask for! It was the bartenders first day (sorry I forgot your name) but he was friendly, engaging and knew his stuff about the games. Cash only, which is honestly part of the charm. Highly recommended!

Google
Interesting place. The atmosphere is very cool and there are many arcade games to choose from. It's also decorated very neatly. As for the actual bar itself, it's kind of a dive. The staff and the regulars seemed nice, but were a little rough around the edges. They told me that they do a heck of a burger. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try it. The prices on the drinks were quite high; $12 for a big can of beer and $17 for a long Island ice tea. Overall, this is ain't bad and may return some day if ever in the area.

Google
This is a super cute and chic place to chill with friends and have a good time. They also have veggie burgers and ice cream available (for adults) so munchies are on the table! As far as drinks goes I only had a ginger ale but they do have a shot and beer deal on deck. So, if you are looking for a fun vibrant chic environment this is the place for you.

Google
Cool little bar with random cool decor. Arcade games run off quarters. Drinks are ok, your typical dive bar. Bartender was really cool. Place seems a little run down but overall a nice spot.

Google
blipsy bar VIOLATES FEDERAL ADA LAW and refuses to admit disabled persons with a service animal! both the bouncer AND bartender were ignorant of federal ADA regulations. what an embarrassing and disappointing endeavor it was for me to finally take my therapist's advice and attempt to visit a local bar to socialize for the first time in nearly 2 years. ☹️ I thought, 'surely, in 2025, and in a city as big and liberal as Los Angeles, i shouldn't be worrying about this sort of discrimination.' but apparently, I was wrong. not only was I *physically assaulted* by the bouncer upon attempting to legally enter the establishment, but i had to endure the humiliation of an equally ignorant female bartender being insultingly condescending towards me and telling me i had to leave simply because I had my service dog with me. 😭 for god sakes, I had less trouble visiting black metal bars with my service dog in suburban Malmö, Sweden in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic than i had with this place! so i guess it's back to being a hermit and avoiding human stupidity for another 2 years (or longer, since the passage of time is apparently no guarantee that people will become any less ignorant, or any more capable or willing to realize their errors and adapt their behavior, despite even the most respectful, sincere, and articulate attempts to educate them).

Google
Best bar in LA. I hope it doesn't burn down :(

Google
As dive bars go, this place is at the top of the list. It has got everything a homebase bar needs, dark, cool, with plenty of ice cold bottled beer and average cocktail selection. But the real thing that sets this place apart from other dive bars are the glorious, glorious retro games. Laid back place, perfect if you're looking to drink a few beers and kill some time with some classic arcade and pinball games.

Yelp
I just came in to play pinball. Twilight zone has a broken left flipper so you cant hold the ball. The right coinslot ate my quarter. It had the powerball though. Pretry much came in to play that. Tried the T2 machine. Left slot ate my quarter so I walked out. Machines are in pathetic condition and it was like 90 degrees inside. In 5 total minutes was drenched in sweat. Maybe drinks are cheap or something but dont play the pinball.

Yelp
This place needs a serious clean out and up grade. The only cool thing was the video games. The chairs are all dingy and gross. It's smells old, drinks aren't great and kind expensive for a "dive " bar. Speakers sounded blown out and music was a little strange. Love the concept but def needs some love in there.

Yelp
Fun little local bar. Great vibes and some fun classic games. The bartender is super nice and makes sure you're taken care of.

Yelp
Nice little barcade near Koreatown. There's literally no advertisement outside of the place if it wasn't for yelp I wouldn't have found it lol. There's an old sign that says Klown above the front door. A lot of old classics arcade games here. Most cost a quarter but some are 50 cents. Very friendly bartender. Some nights they have djs.

Yelp
This bar is a hidden gem with lovely bartenders. There's a standard alcohol selection and pleasantly heavy pours. Many classic arcade cabinets and a few pinball machines are available. The bar is dark and can be a bit loud. This is a cash only bar. Overall I recommend giving Blipsy Bar a visit.

Yelp
Great little dive bar with some video games and old school pinball machines, it's a chill little bar just a bit expensive on the beers in my opinion but other than it it's a solid spot
google avatar

Yelp
Good live music. Call ahead to make sure about the calendar. Get there early to sit nearer the stage. Drinks are kinda steep
google avatar

Julien B.

Yelp
Strange assortment in there, interesting little dive/vibe. Drinks were wonderfully stiff, but the price was steep, and it's cash only. The bartender not only poured our drinks but was also lovely to behold. The DJ? Interesting tunes, but crazy loud, and I couldn't tell if it was just an age barrier (if I'm just getting old), or if it was a real amateur hour deal. Either way, I could not hear myself think, and that made catching up with my pal a bit difficult. The place is surrounded by arcade games, and the barkeeps the quarters. The decor was pretty cool, NGL, lots to look at.

Yelp
Pretty shitty bar and experience. First timers, friends were djing there so my bf and I decided to get a baby sitter and hit up the town for a night out. I'm 5 months pregnant and ready to enjoy a little freedom before the baby gets here and going here would of been great had it not been for the bartenders tonight. Great music, Cute esthetic, fun nostalgic arcade games, buttttt expensive drinks, and shitty bartenders. Could of lived with everything but the shitty bartenders, no one likes shitty service. These girls didn't look up from the bar, except when yelled at "hey can I get a beer!" They didn't like us NOT yelling I guess....just not my style to yell at the bartenders....especially since I do bartend and I never liked that type of treatment....but to each their own idk....I just took them as too busy taking shots themselves to be bothered to actually work. They land up cutting my bf and I off. Why would they cut off a pregnant woman? Because I asked why my non-alcoholic Shirley temple cost the same as an alcoholic drink listed on the board....didn't seem right, whatever...we paid and left it at that. When My bf then tried to buy one last beer the girl says "no you guys are done for the night" He had three beers and I was sober....haha it's really comical....I've never been cut off but especially not as someone sober! I guess they not only don't want to work, but they don't want to make the bar any money either. It was a weird experience for sure, as someone that started off in the dive bar scene..... this was just the lowest of the low when it comes to a local watering hole. They don't have reasonable priced drinks, game incentives (like buy a beer get a free game/nothing), or attentive and nice bartenders. Save yourself some money and time and go somewhere else. One star for a clean bathroom & for fun game options.

Yelp
I am giving this place a full 5 stars just because of how weirdly cool it is. Someone told me about this spot before pandemic and I went back in 2018 but I forgot to leave a review. When I first walked in, I'll admit it felt pretty shady and ok'd but as soon as I saw all of the classic pinball machines it changed my whole first impression. This bar has the coolest, dopest pinball machines and old coin op machines. If I remember correctly they even had Mario on coin op. I happened to go midday so there was only a couple people in there so I had the whole arcade to myself which was great. The other awesome part was there was a dude DJ'ing and he was spinning some of the coolest/strangest music I've ever heard. Props to whoever was The DJ that night. It's been a while so I will definitely have to stop by again and play some games. Keep on being weird (cool) Blipsy Bar!!!!

Yelp
Warning:: The woman bartender tried to pocket my change ($8) service was bad and she tried to rip me off will not be back. I came here last night for a few minutes before going to an event Walking In Initially I was in a good mood and excited about seeing the old pinball machines and games but that quickly changed. I typically like Divey bars but this place should not be charging $15 for a vodka soda in a tiny glass that was dirty . Not a welcoming atmosphere whatsoever. The Bartender was not friendly. We ordered a vodka soda and a Stella beer in bottle. She Told us cash only. Charged us $22 in total so $15 vodka soda and $7 beer bottle? Seems very overpriced but ok... Luckily I had cash I gave her $30. She did not bother asking if I'd like my change back. No excuse for that because there were only 2 other people there. Super unprofessional. I had to ask her for my change to be returned which she did not seem happy about. She took it out of the register and rudely slapped it on the counter. We did not feel comfortable sitting at the bar so we quickly finished our drinks walking around at the back. I tipped her $2 regardless. I'm not sure how a little hole in the wall place like this justifies $30 for the most basic and least amount of effort drinks possible. As a bartender myself I would never assume someone's change is my tip. Especially with the rude service. Next time I want to be overcharged I'll go to Chateau Marmot. Or at least a place with some redeeming quality....Dirty place. Bad smells, Terrible bartender. Bad experience overall . Yuck. 0 stars here if I could. This place is absolute garbage....

Yelp
Playing pinball and lemon is an awesome bartender. The 4th Wednesday of the month has a great d.j.

Yelp
Loved it! It's a fun, quirky little dive with a small bar and some separate tables. They have a number of classic arcade games, including a sit-down tabletop version of Pac-Man. Bartender can provide you change to play the games- they are not free. Drinks were maybe a little pricey (or on par for LA, I guess), but were strong. They are cash only, with an ATM located in the back. Went twice while in town and had a good time both nights. There is also a DJ who happened to be there the first night, and he was great.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a long review because it's so great! So I'll make points if you don't want to read it: Pros: cheap drinks (because they are cheap drinks), old arcade games (galaga, Pac-Man, rampage, car games, pinball) doesn't seem to ever get crowded so you can move and dance, jukebox machine, etc. Cons: CASH ONLY, only worker was there without a bouncer which is fine because it's not crowded but a homeless woman did walk in at one point, very divey. Con if you don't like the dive bar hole in the wall feel. LOVE THIS PLACE!! I've gone only once! But it was a blast! I went this past Saturday and a few things I have to say that make it great! 1) it's a video arcade bar, but it's not the polished ones. The games are older games like Galaga, rampage, the paperboy?, Kong, a couple of pinball machines, Pac-Man! And so many others that are just so much fun! 2) the drinks are cheap and they put a lot of alcohol in it. I got a vodka cranberry and it was still so clear, with a slight tint of cranberry juice. That's how much alcohol to cranberry was in my drink. The alcohol itself might be cheaper so don't be alarmed. This is not a fancy place with fancy drinks. 3) it's not busy at all!!! I went on a Saturday which should be a bush night but it never got any kind of crowded but still in the best way! You have room to dance and it's not too loud so you can talk. I know some of the reviews mention a dj who doesn't seem to be the greatest. That dj was not there which was arguably why I had more fun. They have a jukebox like thing where you can choose 3 songs for 1$ or 5$ for an amount of songs I forget. They have so many artists to choose from so you'll definitely find something you love. There is also a coin machine towards the back. This is located to a couple of food places so you won't be short on that. Everyone is just so cool and mind their own business so me as a gay man didn't feel weird or any eyes when my boyfriend and I would dance or kiss etc. Now every place has its downsides. For one, they did not have a bouncer and only one person was working there as the bar tender. There is also no doors so a homeless lady walked in and kind of harassed people and was yelling but after she left and that whole thing for 2 minutes it was fine. Also it is CASH ONLY for everything. They have an atm but obviously there is probably some $3 charge so just bring cash. You definitely wanna okay games and drink and have a great time. Also some of the games don't work or they have to coin slots but one may not work so you might lose your coin.

Yelp
Paid $30 for 2 Manhattans the bartender didn't seem to know how to make. Also, they didn't have the right glassware for it and it was such a small drink. I felt robbed. Otherwise, seems like a vibey place to chill at and listen to a dj. I wasn't a local so maybe they picked up on that smell and did me dirty. I dunno. I've had better drinks for a lot less but don't get me wrong, I'd pay a lot for a good one made correctly too.
google avatar

Ana T.

Yelp
We were looking for a bar where we could just play some pool and drink a beer. Yelp made a recommendation for this place. There was no cover which was fine. When I walked in, I thought it was "Teen Night". Everyone looked straight out of high school. The establishment has a video game/arcade vibe. There are video game machines everywhere. There is a DJ in the back spinning tunes. The bar is decorated with toys and stuffed animals placed next to liquor bottles. I had one beer and decided to leave the bar. The bartender was nice and the bouncer was nice as well. The crowd is for adult persons that love the arcade and video game crowd. I've been to cool hipster bars before but this bar is different. To be honest, I might come back for Halloween...the vibe might be different.

Yelp
Blipsy is our local barcade divebar. It's very small compared to the other barcades in LA and their selection of games are not my favorite. It was pretty empty when we arrived on Friday night at 11pm, but I liked the intimacy of the bar and how it was not filled with hipsters who are just there to be seen. The arcade games look like it's from the 80s. There are pinball machines that worked earlier that night, then stopped later. There were a few machines that ate my quarters, but I expected that and did not care to escalate it to the staff. Blipsy is a cash only bar. Out of quarters? No worries, there's a change machine in the back. Honestly, I do not know why I have a soft spot for blipsy, but really enjoyed my time here. They had very affordable drinks with a generous pour and it was easy to actually CHAT and hang out with friends.
google avatar

William N.

Yelp
OK the games need some TLC, so don't go planning on spending all night playing games. They have a Twilight Zone pinball so that's all I really care about. First time there this afternoon, loved it. Love the decor, love trying to ID all the 80's toys and the juke box is the weirdest I've ever seen. And I used to go to Al's Bar downtown! I HONESTLY had no idea what to drink this evening, so I did the tried and true ASK THE FREAKING BARTENDER what they're drinking, and she hooked me up with $6 hand made margaritas on Happy Hour. Great location, great cheap booze. Great vibes. Will be back
google avatar

G P.

Yelp
The Blipsy Bar has so much potential as a dive "Barcade" but unfortunately it leaves a lot to be desired! The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is that the jukebox has some good old tunes and is cheap. Now what isn't cheap are the drinks! One minute the beers are $6 and the next same beer will be $7 and later that same beer will be $9! There is NO set prices for drinks which brings me to the next bad thing about this bar which is the service! The Bartender has zero personality, he will not ask you if you want anything, he is too busy playing with his phone, you need to interrupt him if you want a drink and worse of all...he charges whatever he feels like at the time for your drink! So don't expect good service whatsoever, in fact expect garbage service and expect to way over pay for drinks in a bar that you need to take a shower right after you leave because it's so dirty, sticky and grimy! All in all it's a shame because there's a lot of potential here but it's obvious that it's incredibly poorly run! At least the games are only a quarter as they were back in the 80's but take hand sanitizer with cause you know those games haven't been cleaned since the 80's! Better off just avoiding this place!
google avatar

Barry W.

Yelp
*** Neighborhood dive w/ early '80s theme. *** Too funny b/c I have been trying to forget the 1980s, yet Blipsy has made a biz of the it ... Galaga Asteroids Robotron I haven't seen these games in decades. Blipsy has got these and a dozen more. The music here is equally surprising ... Prince Kraftwerk Kano DJ spun "It's a War" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyjkVvKVYsE&feature=youtube_gdata_player That was a b-side tune! How does a 23yo know to play that dusty? Whoa, so I must attest to Blipsy's authenticity. Those tunes took me back to old house party memories. ps: Hit tune on that Kano LP was "I'm Ready" and I actually still have a copy on vinyl! (hah) *** It feels like an episode of "Cold Case". ***

Yelp
If you like bars with extremely limited seating, strange music, and intensely bad smells, then look no further than Blipsy's Bar. Located in what appears to be the Upside-down version of the Arcade from Stranger Things, this place has it all; $10 beers, jagged plastic salon doors, and circuit board decor in the bathroom. Not sure what else to say about this place, its pretty rank.
google avatar

Steve T.

Yelp
I'm giving this a 4 star review because some of the pinball machines were having "issues". But besides that, this place is great and the drinks are cheap. The cd juke box, which itself is a dying breed, was constantly being feed $ and while I didn't look at what sort of selection there was, I was enjoying what was being played. But the games. Oh the games. I got to play my late 20's nephew in some Track n Field (he had no idea he was gonna get a work out : ), Donkey Kong and one of my favorites, Spy Hunter. This wasn't your normal Spy Hunter but one of the sit down style machines. I'd definitely come back again. It's a great place for smaller groups to hang out and chill.
google avatar

Christel B.

Yelp
Little hole in the wall barcade. There isn't a sign outside and you wouldn't know this place excited unless you popped your head in (I suppose they did that on purpose). Parking is hard to find, unless you're lucky enough to park in the back. The drinks are reasonable priced, but they are CASH ONLY. Very nostalgic game collection, but some of the machines didn't work or quarters would get stuck. Bathroom is a bit dingy. If you're looking for a good dive bar (that's not as packed as other BarCades) and love video games, this place is for you.
google avatar

Kevin X.

Yelp
Walked in here with a couple of friends on a Friday night for just an hour. Relatively empty, great selection of "vintage" arcade games, great aesthetic.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Los Angeles' original "Barcade". Old school video games, and dive bar ambiance. A few places in town have copied the concept but they can't replicate the vibe.
google avatar

Simona A.

Yelp
The jukebox lags and it's not a place to spend hrs at spending 1 or 2 hours is definitely worth it.
google avatar

Cathy D.

Yelp
I kind of love this bar. I think the first time I went there I was DJ-ing and it just always has a really good vibe. Basically, the vibe I'm speaking of is that it always feels like you and your friends owns the place. It feels kind of like a secret clubhouse and I'm into that feeling. I know people complain that it's cash only and beer/wine/soju only, but I always end up drunk in the just the perfect way after one of those GIANT Sapporos or from one of those mysterious soju cocktails. I've never eaten the food and I haven't actually seen anyone eat it either...Just sayin! I think the decor is pretty cute and the lighting is good aka DARK and you can actually hear yourselves talk in the front room. People also say the restrooms are dirty, but those people have obviously never been to a punk show or a house party. The restroom is down a somewhat creepy hallway, but has always been clean when I was there. If you check out the Barcade Myspace page, you will see that every night is pretty much an interesting type of DJ/DJ set. I think Barcade really cares about music. I've seen live shows here, but I think they are rare maybe. And I'm not going to lie, I haven't spent much time in the "third" total game room, but that's probably because I would rather be playing records, dancing to my friends music when they are DJ-ing (check out every third Wednesday which is Def Before Disco: http://beatconnections.org/def_before_disco/ On top of all that I have mentioned, the bartender/owner, Ricardo is pretty soft on the eyes. He and his brother play in the awesome band, Very Be Careful: www.verybecareful.com/ For the smokers, you can totally smoke outside in the front. This isn't a no-ins-and-outs kind of place. And maybe one day they'll get an ATM machine. Sigh. Duh, I like this place!
google avatar

Amanda Y.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place that's dark, very dive bar-y and low-key casual, this is your place. It's a small space with a bar to your right once you enter, and the floors are unfinished. There are old arcade games around the room, and by old, I mean Paperboy, Asteroid, and Rampage old. Haha Still tons of fun, though! The games all take quarters, and there's a change machine if you need it. You can order beers, and there are some house cocktails for $5, but the cocktails come in these small glasses, like half the size of a regular glass. I don't think it's a fully stocked bar, but I also didn't ask for any drinks other than what they offered. Also, note this place is **cash only**. This is cool to go to if you wanna go out but don't wanna dress up, and you're looking for a really chill place to be and hang out with a friend or two.
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
I'm giving it four stars for keeping it real. This is a video game bar. They have superold games that all work. That is a plus, because often, you will encounter these places that have broken games and what not. Here, they are working. The inside of the bar itself is filthy, so if you care about that stuff, you won't like this place. It would be a place to eat food, and it's sad that they do not allow cigarette smoking in bars anymore, because this would be the place to do it!!
google avatar

Gaia V.

Yelp
Two years ago in The last days of our two months of traveling in the USA, Blipsy was our favorite hangout in LA. The cold 0,5L beers were super welcome in these hot summer nights. Even my boyfriend got a free shirt from super nice bartender with the most fantastic mustache. Ps I'm still jealous of that tape record jukebox!

Qiana D.

Yelp
I love this place! This is truly my spot! It's a safe dive bar for a single lady to slide thru enjoy the games and drinks without being harassed! Ricardo and Bevin are super cool and welcoming! It's clean even the bathroom. Drinks are strong and cheap! Jukebox has a great variety! Best dive bar in Ktown!

Jessica R.

Yelp
Duuuuudde....I heart tf outta dive bars and barcade dive bars?!?! Fuggett about it BUT when the only ATM in the place is out of service and the bartender recommends venturing to the shady laundromat next door for cash and quarters. Did I mention it's a cash only bar? Sus bruh and lame.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
Strong drinks, dope games, amazing people. My favorite bar in LA, hands down. Been coming here for years and met some amazing people. Love the jukebox. Games are only a quarter?
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
I really really wanted to like this place!! Bar tender was super nice and so was security. Loved playing some 80s arcade games But!!!! That's where it stopped. First, Cash Only (come on!) Second, DJ played everything but 80s music!! It was like 50s, 60s, Rocky harror picture show ish.....non stop , no variety mixed in. Then, Bartender gave me change so I can play music from juke box and after paying $5, I find out none of it will play cuz the DJ just continues barrelling thru with his non 80s assortment. Bathrooms are disgusting and smell horrendous..........this place has so much potential but besides the year the arcade games came out, this shouldnt be classified as an "80s" bar......
google avatar

Erick R.

Yelp
I love this place! The bartenders are fantastic. I usually order an old fashioned or a whiskey sour. Yum, now I'm thirsty. The DJ's are always on point! Do you like dancing to the heavy heavy sound? The nuttiest sound around? Well you better come in off the street to BLIPSY BAR If you are nostalgic for classic video games and you like to enjoy an adult beverage or two. THIS IS THE PLACE!
google avatar

Travis W.

Yelp
Needed to kill some time before a show at the Wiltern. Looked up and found a small barcade that is the Blipsy Bar. Headed over and found this little hole in the wall with no sign. Walking in the place was empty, it was just me and the bartnder. Place is a cash only spot so be ready if you are heading here. They have quite a few original arcade games. You have everything from Spy Hunter, Track & Field, Paperboy and Rampage. All the ones you would find in a classic 80s arcade. They have 4 pinball machines which I played. All of them could definitely use some TLC. A lot of the lights where out and they were not very leveled. Still fun to play but if you are a pinball head like me you will wish you could clean up these machines. Overall a nice place to hang. Prices are decent, music is playing and you can play retro games. If this sounds cool then Blipsy Bar is worth checking out. CHEERS!!!!
google avatar

Anita C.

Yelp
Do NOT come here during hot weather. I am in completely agreement with Eric M. Re: his observations and why the hell there are so many positive reviews for this joint. My first impression is that Blipsy is a big hot steaming dump. Pro: good selection of video games Con's: Disgusting dirty "was the last time this place as cleaned in the 80's?" feeling Video game consoles are pretty banged up No place to put your drink POOR ventilation esp on a hot summer night. I stood in one spot under a grimy vent to keep cool Great concept poorly executed. Clean the grime up and fix the AC problem -- I will be back but doubtful this will happen.

Yelp
Yo kid ! ! For reals... Man I can't even tell ya how many times I've driven by this place either on my way home or to the BGL. One thing that always drew my attention to this place was lil' blue... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XM2w74kjHQNixim6Mu9Bkg?select=96NvHjD4Md5uZYUsIYw1cQ so one night, I said, "Fook it !" and brought a friend to check it out with me. I kinda tripped out, cuz as we were walking to the place, we could hear some music but not just any music...it was different. Instantly, I knew that this place was gonna be alright in my book !! I could hear that the DJ was spinning some underground stuff that I KNOW no one has heard of, well, maybe some select number of kiddies did, but in general, no one. Some unique stuff, for sure. As we walk in, I am instantly hit with a sound wave of that funky azz music I had mention before. Not only that, but also a soothing warmness of nostalgia coming over me. BAM ! ! Right off the bat...at the entrance, a Lite-Brite monitor, with a red heart on it and L.A. in white...nice...I might have to go back and secretly change L.A. to Yelp...har har... We mozzie on up to the bar, the bartender had just left before we sat down...so while we waited, I started to scan the wall of treasured gems... Things I saw that brought back memories... - Castle Greyskul set up w/ Orko flying about it - Star Wars figurines...the Snow Stormtroopers one...freakin' cool - An assortment of GI Joes and He-Man figurines - I think I even saw a My Little Pony... Well, what have you...I just started to go back into my memories, crazy. My poor friend, I honestly think I forgot about her for a cool 5 min. just looking at their wall chock full of memory kickers ! \ | | / -- pop -- Whoa ! ! Uhh...back to the review... / | | \ The barkeep was really cool, he hooked her up w/ a Cape Codder, I got a TALL Bud in a can...yes...I even asked for a brown paper bag to put it in while I drank it, but alas he didn't have one. bummer. As we talked n' took pics, we were really digging the vibe of the place. We got up and started to look about ...oh...whaaaaa? Not....DONKEY KONG ! ? Man, I couldn't even get a quarter outta my pocket fast enough ! ! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XM2w74kjHQNixim6Mu9Bkg?select=YVSOxzBRPOTtxz_ELFAwfw After a few seconds, I was overcome with a euphoric sense of old time joy, innocence, if you will. If it weren't for the Tall in my hand, I woulda thought I was back at the Liquor Store around the corner of the apartment I grew up at. After a few more seconds, I was digging for another quarter (yeah, I died quickly cuz I hadn't played in forever!) then another for my pal, sheesh...I didn't want to leave her out of the loop ! ! After a few minutes, we looked over the rest of the place, found more games in the back...back room and more than a few cool posters ranging from The Specials to redone fliers advertising movie nights at the Barcade featuring the original movie poster...great gag to bring in the kiddies. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here...It was like splicing my favorite things from my childhood to the things I like most now as an "adult". I definitely see myself coming here again and soon too. Hey...lend me a quarter ! To you, Barcade... (lift my Tall Boy) Thank you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6oHxq77_MI This totally has ROTD written all over it...yep.

Yelp
After the first five minutes I was already disappointed-bartender M.I.A., arcade area filled with some group having a discussion that filled both arcade rooms, a menu that consisted only of soju (um, huh? what's that?) and beer, and the bf having to run off to the ATM in KFC across the street because they neither take credit cards nor have an ATM of their own. So, yes, this is essentially a three star bar that necessitates a four star review for the arcade games, which at 25 cents a pop are shockingly not price gouged (though in West L.A. I doubt that would deter anyone from making this place a huge success) and end up making up for the shortcomings. There are classics like Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Asteroids, pinball, and Donkey Kong and if you show up during the week you will have no problem playing your game of choice. Sweet. Thank gawd my bf has saved up his change in a giant coffee can over the past year because I used up almost $10 in quarters on Ms. Pac Man because I don't like losing, but do, and yet it didn't cost us any 'real' money. The drinks are fairly strong and delish. I had never tried Soju but after two soju Tom Collinses, I was a fan. Here I am spending 45 minutes on this review because I can't spell for shit thanks to it. I'm slurring after two plum wine drinks! But they did fill the glass 3/4 full of the stuff so I guess the $6 price tag was a bargain and my incapacitated state understandable. Anywho, I'm drunk, I played Pac Man after not doing so for years, have drunk permasmile and am relying on spell check to not sound like a hobo in this review-the perfect cap off to my night? I think so! Yay barcades, yay soju, yay quarters, yay high as a kite djs and bartenders that make the juvenile aspect of this place undeniably clear!

Yelp
Thanks to Blipsy Barcade, I finally got to feel what it was like to be a college kid in the 80s. Booze and old arcade games, how awesome is this place! Dive bar plus 80s video games is just genius. First of all, this place can be hard to find. There's no signs outside, as its located inside an unmarked building. So do what most people do, and that's look for a giant two story KFC. Park somewhere around there, marvel at how awesome that KFC is as you walk pass it, and find Blipsy located directly diagonal from from that KFC. Stepping inside brought back fond memories of days where I was a wee lad that used to frequent arcades with rolls of quarters stacked inside a photography film can. They have all the classics like Pacman, Donkey Kong, Double Dragon, Paperboy, Rampage, Asteroids, Gauntlet, Punch Out, and more! Paperboy was definitely a LOT more fun than I remembered. I was surprised how violent it was! Getting run over by a car is sadistically amusing. The bartender (owner I'm guessing?) was cool and I loved how they had random 80s stuff around around the bar. I spotted the talking chair from Pee Wee's Playhouse and Qbert! Since the machines are old, a lot of them eat quarters, so just ask the bartender and he'll help you out. No worries about bringing your own quarters since they can provide change. And later in the night there was a DJ playing music, beforehand it was just jukebox music. Anyway, Blipsy Barcade is the perfect place to grab a beer, play some nostalgic video games, and hang out a bit. It allows us 80s kids to reminisce the good old days.

Yelp
Went here after I got my korean bbq fix at Castle. This bar totally blew my mind. It's pure genius! A dive bar meets 80's arcade games and BAM! You got a barcade! This dive bar is small, but it has a lot of character. The full stocked bar is impressive with their blue lights they use to make it stand out. Their drinks are cheap also, but to save on money you can also pre-game! All you party people know what i'm talking about! :-P The arcade games brings back old memories especially for 80's kids! Who doesn't love playing paperboy, rampage, donkey kong, double dragon, miss pacman, pacman, and knockout! You also have pinball games... ie: 'Addams Family'. I sure love it! If you have nothing to do, you can always eat at castle's and walk to this barcade for some blooody fun! Advice: Try playing punchout buzzed... You'll have one H...E Double Hockey Sticks-a fun!

Yelp
It's 1984. 2 years before I was born. There are no cell phones, no computer games, but there's this arcade bar right in koreatown where all the cool kids come to hang out. Ok so it's not 1984, it's 2014 and there is an arcade bar located in Korea town, and it's quite random. So a friend of mine suggested that my girlfriend and I meet up with him at this spot. Upon arriving to the location it's a bit deceiving as the exterior doesn't have a sign but you will know you've arrived because It's located next door to a fried chicken joint that I just bookmarked! Once I entered through the dark black velvet curtains and into the murky dark and musty joint the bartender greets my girlfriend and I by asking for our Id's. We proceeded to walk about 30 steps gazing at all the games and pinball machines and we were at the end of the arcade. Yah it's that small. The archaic arcade games brought back memories from my childhood that made me almost tear up. They were old, but oh how nostalgic and retro are the "in thing" now. We played a few arcade games but the pinball games took most of our money. We spent most of the time there. After spending a good $5 on 25¢ games we made our way back to the bar and ordered up a few drinks. Ok so me personally I am not a drinker. I don't drink beer and rarely drink mixed drinks but I do know what a good drink tastes like, and I have to say these were the worst drinks I have ever had in my life. My girlfriend along with my friend agreed. My cranberry and vodka tasted like rubbing alcohol and sour cranberry juice, and my girlfriends Tokyo tea was 90% liquor. Needless to say the bartender didn't know how to bartend, and to top it off they only accept cash. So it really is 1984 here. The nostalgic feel here is cool, it's a great place to come and take a step back in time, but there are a few things that need to be improved. 1. Better ventilation. It's hot as hell in there. 2. Better bartender. 3. Update and take cards. 4. Get some lighting in here it's darker than Wesley snipes.

Yelp
Everything a man would want is here. Check list: Booze - Plentiful and good selection 4 stars Games - Selection is minimal Music - The music was plenty audible, but there wasn't much I recognized from the jukebox. If I was at Blipsy at night, I bet the DJ would have rocked the place. All in all, the Blipsy Barcade is adequate. The best I've been to is Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade in Portland, OR. They even have cup holders bolted to the arcade games, which would be a great addition to Blipsy Barcade.

Yelp
Holy crapsauce, this place is a trip. If my friend didn't have his birthday there, would have never known it existed, but I'm glad I know now. You'd never know driving by. You walk through the door and it's like taking a trip in the Delorian, right back to the late 80s/early 90s. Pac Man, Asteroids, Centipede, Playboy pinball, off-road racing and so much more. There's all kinds of old school pop culture spread throughout the place so keep your eye out. Super quaint, this place gets HOT. Went on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded. but I imagine on a weekend it's a sauna. All in all, super divey. Word to the wise: the bartender pours STRONG. So if you don't like strong drinks, this place isn't for you. I'm talking every shot is a double. They had a "DJ" but it was mainly just someone who hooked up an ipod and played wacky "music." Relatively inexpensive drinks, and if you are looking for a nostalgic atmosphere, this is the place to go.
