How To Make the Perfect Devil’s Food Cake Recipe - Eater

"One of the bakers who contributed to the over $1,300,00 raised was Auzerais Bellamy, the founder of Blondery — a virtual bakery based in Brooklyn, specializing in bite-size mail-order blondies. Bellamy donated 50 percent of sales from her Brooklyn Blackout Blondies during the bake sale period to the Equal Justice Initiative." - Patty Diez

I had a fantastic experience when I went to pick up two trio boxes from Blondery. The desserts are absolutely delectable! Everything I tried—blondies, chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, and the cinnamon bun—was delicious. They are not overly sweet, with just the right balance of texture and sweetness. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients used. I can't wait to go back, and I truly hope she finds great success on her journey!

If you are someone who appreciates quality, phenomenal taste and just great sweets, you need to run and support this business. Blondery is a hidden treasure in Peekskill that needs to be found! We purchased the Trio boxes and enjoyed the 3 items inside.. the cookies we also purchased along with the Trio boxes were delicious, fresh and really enjoyed by my family. Very large and heavy! The cinnamon roll was sooo soft and delicious too. And can’t forget the Snickerdoodle blondie, also very delicious. The variety of offerings in the Trio box was super! Looking forward to next month’s offerings. I drove 40 minutes from NJ to pick up our order and more than willing to do it regularly to get these handmade, delicious sweets made with love.

I placed an online order to support this business. Needless to say it was another disappointing experience from one of our own. I tell myself over n over again to stop supporting our businesses. They never cease to amaze me with disappointment. Blondies products were very good. However the price point is highway robbery. Usually I will never complain about pricing. This situation needed to be addressed. When I received my order I instantly thought Blondie has the absolute nerve to package and sell these teeny tiny deserts for $50. I felt used. Purchase at your own risk. Those Blondies are about the size of a quarter. The desert jar can fit into a Talenti jar.

I wrote to her about concerns over the Gofundme. I wanted to make sure the money was being used appropriately. I had a sneaking suspicion she was in debt. She assured me quite graciously that this money was being used for a pivot into grocery stores. Fast forward to a few weeks later, after I begrudgingly bought a gift for my niece who graduated from Peekskill High, it turns out she owes $40,000 in back rent! I say "begrudgingly" because the price is outrageous. I could have gotten my niece an entire cake from Homestyle bakery that the entire family could have all shared instead of a blondie, cut into four pieces, and a cake jar that is all north of $50.00. Lastly, you cannot tell me with a straight face that the legal action from her landlord came as a surprise! This renders the entire Gofundme as wholly disingenuous and she has now admitted in video. This was not a grocery store pivot, it was an attempt to use people to pay her debts. While the blondies are good her ethics are the total opposite.

I get the privilege of a Blondery pop up on many Sundays of the year at the Beacon Farmers Market! The baked goods are genuinely on another level. As someone who doesn’t like super sweet stuff, I b-line toward the decadent cookies every single time! Bonus, in the fall I got to have a perfect hot chocolate with blistered marshmallow. Felt like drinking a s’more. Best Sunday morning. Thank you, Blondery!!

Google
I placed my order Aug 15th I selected my delivery date of Aug 28th just so that my stuff could be fresh. My stuff didn’t taste the freshest and most definitely could have used more Carmel, to be honest I didn’t taste anything above the pecans which I love but fill to many were used. I really wanted to like this but with the price and the taste in my opinion it’s not worth the money. However the packaging and shipping was first class.

Blondery uses quality ingredients and produces exceptional blondies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and cake jars. Blondery is definitely a bakery every one should experience not just once but over and over again.

Google
I've lived in several states and visited even more, good chocolate chip cookies are rarer than you think. Believe me, I am dedicated to that research. Blondery's chocolate chip cookies are outstanding, one of the best I've ever tried. The cookie's sweetness is well-balanced with just the right notes of chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla flavors in each soft, crumbly bite. The Brooklyn blackout blondie is very good as well, but we're talking chocolate chip cookies here. I tried them at the Mayfest event yesterday and went back today to get more. Their storefront is about an hour away, but I will be making that drive in the near future. Prices are on the higher end, but you are getting high quality ingredients and culinary artistry.

Yelp
Product was good. Pricing outta control, she trying to pay all her bills off one customer. I paid $50 for a teeny tiny cup of desert. It would have been better if it was reasonably priced. I would have been a customer for life. I do not like supporting businesses that over charge for their product. The desert cup I purchased was very good, however it should have been priced no more than $14 max, maybe $15 but $50... never again. I had to edit this review because of the owner response. I ordered online. I should have mentioned that the $50 price tag did include 4 Blondies. The pricing still not justified, those little Blondies are approximately the size of a quarter (at best). I am good for supporting small businesses. However no one likes to feel taken advantage of. Even your said price of $23 for the cake jar is crazy, it's soooooo tiny.

Yelp
Overpriced food and with an owner who doesn't respect Peekskill residents. Given that the branding makes it seem like a hair salon, it makes perfect sense that the business is struggling. Now she's demanding money from local residents -- the same residents she complained about in a newspaper op-ed -- to expand her business.

Yelp
Amazing desserts and incredibly unique flavors! Yes the Blondies are small squares, but so packed of intense flavor I think of it on par with other small, luxury desserts like macaron, truffle or petit fours. Also gorgeous, high end packaging, so great as gifts! Great website and service for pre-order and pickup. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love this place. I love the vibe. I love that is is woman owned and black woman owned at that. I adore her story and hope she stays in business for years to come. They first time I came here I was served by the owner herself and the other two times her staff. All have been amazing. Now there is no indoor seating, so be mindful of that as well. I've been here three times now and have been satisfied. The stores name sake comes from their blondies. They are bite sized (maybe two bites) Almost brownies. They come multiples in a box. I got a 4 pack of her regular the first time. They are good. Very good. But they are expensive. The 4 in a nice size box cost $20 and Together would be the size of an average luxe bakery in NYC. So like I said. Expensive. The cookies. Divine. They are jumbo cookies. They taste like they are made with high quality ingredients which you can also tell as when left on a napkin for a long time, that delicious buttery blend will leave its mark. We've now had the chocolate chip, s'mores, and oatmeal raisin and never disappointed. And at right around $5 a cookie, very reasonably priced. I also heard they sell donuts on Saturdays but they have always been sold out by the time we arrived. And they sell cakes. But again, they are expensive with a singular jar costing $22 and I could likely eat it myself in one or two sittings. Oh and they sell dog treats. Good clean ingredients. Bought one for my pup who literally devoured it and looked for more.

Yelp
Make sure you look at the website for the size comparison before purchasing these blondies. That is my only complaint - that I didn't look at the size chart. The blondies are roughly the size of a quarter. I was expecting something bigger for the $35 price point. I ordered the birthday cake variety box, which includes four best-selling favors. Rating the flavors from best to least (in the parentheses is song lyrics): Brooklyn (the livest borough) Blackout. It is gluten-free and delicious. This is surprising to me because the first gluten-free brownie I had 15 years ago was goo, which made me wish I had bought more. Birthday cake ( you want to put your name on it!) It has sprinkles and definitely feels like a celebration in your life. Pecan and Salted caramel (kisses you sent my way) - Sweet, nutty, and salty. Cinnamon Sugar ( yes, please -won't you come and put it down on me) - It reminded me of a snickerdoodle, but it was a bit dry. All and all, it was incredible, and the shipping was phenomenal. I was temporarily living in Hawaii, and it shipped from New York to me in a few days. This is impressive because most places that claim to have nationwide shipping, meaning within the continental United States If you are looking for a little bit of luxury, this is the treat you should get.

Yelp
They charge a ridiculous amount for a bite-sized, over-hyped piece of exotic-sounding tiny baked thing. Not even that tasty.

Yelp
chocolate chip cookie.... so good! chewy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside when i heat it up for a few sec. (i always do that with my cookies) these were amazing and huge! bday brownie....very good! cute rainbow sprinkles on top and cookies and cream middle! loved it! smores brownie....very good! like a blonde brownie with choco chips and marshmallow on top! i have to say you get 4 brownies of your choice for 20 bucks. they are small but worth it. they were so delicious. i wish she was a bit closer cuz i would love to go back.

Yelp
I walked in and was immediately greeted by the owner. She was fabulous with a huge personality. We chatted for a while and I told her how pleased I was that she was bringing more vegan options to the area!! I decided to go with both vegan options which are the vegan chocolate chip cookie and the sweet potato blondes. I'm always a little hesitant when buying vegan baked goods because sometimes they are terrible.... but after speaking with Auzerais I knew that I was NOT going to be disappointed. After trying both things I can say that the chocolate chip cookie was hands down the best vegan cookie I've ever had and the blonde was to die for. I only wish that the blondes were bigger because it's like a little tease. Thank you Auzerais for bringing your business to Peekskill!

Yelp
I didn't know cookies can taste like what heaven must feel like!!! Delicious!! At first I thought the prices were exorbitant but after tasting their schmores cookies I was convinced they are priced appropriately. A wonderful culinary experience! Treat yourself

Yelp
I visited Blondery after receiving a sample from a friend that was truly delicious! I decided next time I was in Peekskill, I would find the bakery and check it out myself. The place smells absolutely divine and I met the owner who was very friendly and helpful with answering any questions I had. I bought a "blind bag" of blonde trims that was absolutely yummy! I can't wait to visit again and try more!

Yelp
These treats are DELICIOUS! Just the right amount of sweet, high quality ingredients, and beautiful packaging. We bought a huge box the first time - ate half right away and froze the rest for later. The frozen ones tasted perfectly fresh a few months later. Couldn't recommend these more- either for yourself or as a gift

Yelp
Stopped by after hearing lots of buzz about this place. Absolutely flabbergasted by the pricing. Honestly thought the little square bites on the counter were samples. Turns out they are the full product and $5 each. Since we made the trip, decided to try a box of 9 bites (for a dizzying $45!). Brownie bites were decent, but truly not sure what the buzz is about at this price. Maybe I'm missing something, shrug.

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Yeah I agree; the price was crazy expensive. Sadly I didn't want to pay so much for something so small, maybe I'll try them one day if I'm feeling generous enough. It might be worth the money; we'll see;)
google avatar

Sarine B.

Yelp
I know I know the size is listed online, but it is WAY TOO SMALL for the price you pay! A box of 4 is over $15! It's EXTREMELY expensive for a piece of blonde that tastes the same as Trader Joe's LOL To top it off, they're barely open 3 days a week!

Yelp
I stopped in to Blondery today. So great to hear about an African American Woman owned business. My heartfelt Congratulations. I purchased a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious - about as good as it can get. For $3+, reasonable. But the brownies are not full-sized brownies, they are tiny "mini brownies" that are I would estimate about 1 inch square, perhaps a drop larger. When I asked about the brownies, I was told that the smallest package that they are available in is a package of four. Four 1 inch brownies for $15! Now I acknowledge that things have gotten more expensive over the last few years. But that ... is outrageously and unreasonably expensive for that amount of brownie. In fact, half of that price would still be on the high side. I know for a fact that I can go to top notch bakeries in the NY Metro area and purchase a delicious full size brownie for around $2-$4. I would say one package of four minis here would be roughly equivalent to 1 or 1 1/2 full size. As good as they looked, I will not be purchasing any brownies here.

Yelp
Ozzy the founder was so welcoming and had seasonal samples available to try. We tried Brazilian limeade and we ended up ordering it. So airy, creamy and delicious. We heard the donuts sell out fast and we were lucky enough that there were a few left. We got the sweet potato, Brazilian limeade, Brooklyn blackout and red velvet blondie plus a vanilla donut. My favorite was red velvet. My boyfriends favorite was Brooklyn Blackout. Must try.

Yelp
Blondery products are truly addictive! The flavors are very creative and you can taste the high quality of the ingredients. I won't lie - the price is high BUT I happily pay it knowing I'm supporting a black-owned, woman-owned small business who is proving high quality product that taste delicious.

Yelp
I've ordered several things from Blondery and we have loved them all! My son's (who isn't a chocolate fan) favorite is the Brooklyn Blackout. My daughter and husband love the cinnamon sugar blondies because they taste like a snickerdoodle and I love the caramel pecan as well as the cake jars. So good! Shipping is fast and everything tasted fresh. Can't wait to visit New York and go to their new storefront.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Incredible. The cookies! My goodness, those cookies! My sister grabbed some for me when I was visiting NY because she knows my obsession with cookies and I was in heaven!...I live in Maryland now so you know I had my mom get me some more for the next time I came up to NY. I had the smores and chocolate chip cookies. UnREAL! They are the size of my hand and worth the $6 price tag! Hubby isn't too into desserts, but when I made him try a bite of the smores cookie, his first reaction was "Wow!". Both my sister and my mom commented about how kind and welcoming the owner was on their visits, and someday I will get in there myself to witness the place where it happens and the queen behind these glorious pieces of heaven Bravo, Blondery!

Steve P.

Yelp
Wow, this Peekskill bakery is a gem! I wasn't in a blondie mood the day I went, so we got a variety of cookies. They are huge, delicious and among the best I've ever had. I brought them to a party and they were a total hit. The variety of flavors is solid and each tastes incredible. They're rich, dense, just the right amount of chewiness and big enough to split. Hopefully, you're on your way there now to pick up some sweet treats.

Td P.

Yelp
After the CBS coverage, I knew I had to try, and I was NOT disappointed. Your desserts are fabulous! Thank you for the outstanding communication as you processed the backlog in good time.

Athina L.

Yelp
I would love to try these-as I'm sure they are delicious; but seriously!!! $9 for a one inch square Blondie? I understand it's made with quality ingredients, but the price point really seems over the top. Obviously, it's only for the extremely wealthy.

Valerie W.

Yelp
One word to describe Blondery Amazing! I ordered a few years back and been addicted every since my go to is the blondery trim never thought eating the trim could be so satisfying but it is definitely will continue to support
