13 Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Blondies owner Anne Turner missed the high quality and low-priced counter cafes native to her New Jersey home after moving south with her family in 2011. She decided to fill the void herself and opened Blondies Bagels and Café in late 2015. This Daniel Island gem welcomes patrons with wonderfully chewy bagels, spot-on soups and sandwiches, and lots of hot coffee. It is Daniel Island, so families are regulars at every restaurant. Sit side by side with your own kind, and leave the bottomless mimosa crowd at the door. These blondes have more fun." - Erin Perkins

Google
1st time here. So This is ONLY for the muffins. I order both muffins and bagel sandwich’s. Sandwiches were good and tasty 3.5 stars. However also ordered blueberry and poppy muffins and they were dry and had no taste. Had maybe 2 blueberries so it was very disappointing and pathetic. Stick with the bagels if you go there.

This is my first time visiting This café. I came in on April 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM. I ordered the meat egg and cheese bagel on an everything bagel and a 12 ounce latte breve. So the first thing is is that she overcharged me for my bagel sandwich which should have been 675 but she charged me 725 and then I didn’t even get my cheddar which is the cheese that I wanted on my sandwich. It says right there on my receipt cheddar. I don’t know how they missed that. The lady that took my order was rushed and she looked like she was stressed out. My coffee is so extremely hot that an hour later I’m barely able to drink it. I haven’t decided whether or not I will come back into this place but at this point, I don’t recommend. I Don’t appreciate being overcharged and it’s really not difficult to make a bagel sandwich with cheese.

Becky Koppenhaver

Google
Local cafe in Daniel Island, its looks were better than its taste. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel which was okay - fairly dry and notably only had one egg (additional egg = additional charge), while other breakfast sandwiches normally come with two eggs. The staff members were pleasant and atmosphere is what you’d expect of a local place. I recommend asking for butter or something to combat the dryness of the bagel sandwich.

Google
The breakfast wraps and bagel sandwiches are so good! Coffee and cinnamon roll were also great. It’s nice that there are bistro tables out front so you can sit outside if you want to. The inside is very clean and welcoming. Glad we came upon this place!

Andraea Vinocur

Google
Bagels were fine but avoid the cinnamon rolls! Don’t be fooled - they look good but they are hard and super dry. Quite possibly the worst cinnamon roll I’ve ever had. Service was ok - it was a very busy Saturday morning and they were doing their best to keep up. They forgot an item in our order but quickly made it right. Not sure if I’d go back but it’s a very cute place. Be patient if you go at a peak time - and stick to bagels!

Google
Food looked and tasted amazing. Coffee's great! I usually don't like iced coffee, but I loved this one. Staff were helpful and nice. Service was quick. It was pretty loud inside, but it does have outdoor seating. Pets are not allowed inside, but are allowed outside. Great place, will visit again!

Stacia Nowosielski

Google
Food is good but the staff is always so intense. We will come at 1 on our lunch break and it's the constant energy of them clearly not thrilled we are there. I know as an employee in F&B there is this sense of entitlement around the last hour a business is open. But going to dinner the last hour of the night at a restaurant is so much different than trying to get a bagel for lunch. Maybe change the hours so the staff can relax until lunch time is actually over- then they can get back on their high horses.

Lori Marr

Google
Coffee and breakfast wraps were very good! So were the cinnamon rolls. Liked that you could sit outside. We also stopped in for ice cream on a night they had it and it was very tasty!

Yelp
Stopped by here for iced coffees and breakfast sandwiches after a hot visit to Daniel Island Park last Sunday morning. Glad we showed up when we did because the line was out the door as we were leaving. I barely noticed how busy it got because people were cruising through the line. We received our iced coffees within just a couple minutes and then our three bagels only a couple minutes later. The iced coffees were strong and yummy and the bagels hit the spot. The employees were friendly despite the rush they were rushing through. They also had a little water station where I was able to get us waters to rehydrate. Will return!

Yelp
I don't recommend the scrambled eggs. I ordered scrambled eggs for my toddler. They look and taste horrible. Our doggie wouldn't even eat them. I also got a cinnamon roll. It was large but cold. Just basic. The cinnamon sugar bagel was tasty and they gave lots of cream cheese. My husband got an everything bagel breakfast sandwich and he says it was too salty. He never complains about salt content so it must have been pretty salty. He also ordered American cheese on his sandwich and was given cream cheese. Next time, I would just stick with the cinnamon sugar bagel, lightly toasted.

Yelp
Visited after services this morning. Have been here dozens of times and this was a bit disappointing. The service was efficient and pleasant. Coffee was very good. Our breakfast sandwiches were lackluster and bland. Ordered an egg with pepper jack cheese bagel, egg with cheddar cheese on sourdough and cheese and meat bagel. For the two egg/cheese, the cheese was nearly nonexistent. When the sandwiches were opened, there was little evidence of cheese and I could imagine the slice would have been a thin sandwich slice. For the other, the turkey sausage was the size of a silver dollar. When placed in a bagel sandwich, it was quite surprising. As a result, there was very little flavor to any of the 3. This is not being picky. I know the delicious sandwiches I have had here through the years. None of these measured up. Would far rather pay a bit more and have a flavorful sandwich.

Yelp
The Asiago bagel with horseradish bacon cream cheese was quite passable. Not sure if it will be up to the standards of all the DI New Yorkers but I enjoyed it. There is a great aesthetic here and I got some studying done. The service was solid too. The staff actually recommended the Asiago bagel to me.

Yelp
Put "bagels" in your name + I'm there. Snagged a cold brew, a hot seasonal PB latte + a bagel with schmear. The cold brew was good, exactly what it is. The workers gave me a heads up that the latte is quite sweet, so I snagged a small because I had to try it. I did not have a problem with the sweetness level, and I am glad that they told me it was sweet, but the issue I had wasn't the sweetness, it was the chunks of peanut butter. If it's a beverage that is not smoothie or bubble tea... should not have any chunks in it. Bagel was okay, exactly what it sounds like. Nothing that made it stand out, but not bad either.

Yelp
Great spot. Quick service. Got two bagels with cream cheese and 2 coffees for a little less than $25. Ambiance is great with a clean space and plenty of seating. Came around 8:30am on a Sunday and no line! Street parking out front but there's also a small parking lot behind the building.
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
Their bagels are okay . Not as good as Ruby's but I live on the island . Problem is they have absolutely stupid hours ! Closed at noon on Sunday ? Not cool all other bagels stores are open until 2:00 . I can't go back but looking forward to the new bagel shop opening on Daniel Island soon !

Yelp
Tried this cute Cafe on Daniel island this morning for a study group, I never really come over to Daniel island so I was excited to try! I wasn't totally hungry but will be back for a bagel soon, but they looked like they had a ton of options. I grabbed a hot latte with hazelnut and whole milk... I know I'm that person. But it was delicious and I'm not usually a hot latte type gal but it was a little chilly out so I opted for it hot, but I throughly enjoyed it. I think it was around 5 dollars which is good!l for Charleston. Service was good, the baristas all looked happy even at 8am and all sweet. It definitely can get busy, but pretty quick! A friend got a blue berry muffin and it looked delicious. Plenty of seating inside and out. Parking was good, I parked on the side of the road but I saw there was parking behind the store front as well! Can't wait to go back and try a bagel, kinda sad I didn't now thinking of it.

Yelp
The breakfast bagel I had was amazing!! The location was very nice and the staff were friendly!!

Yelp
This is my tenth review of this place! Don't worry, last couple of times, I gave them five stars. To celebrate the fall season, I wanted to try the pumpkin cream cheese and leaving a review for this only. The pumpkin cream cheese went really well with the cinnamon bagel. However, it was fairly runny. The consistency was not thick at all. The flavor was great, but I was disappointed in the fact that the cream cheese was melting all over my hands. Sadly, I won't be there, but I hope this gets fixed for next fall!

Yelp
I had some work to do and time to kill and found myself at a local coffee shop. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Staff was helpful. I started with my usual boring black coffee, solid. There were lots of breakfast sandwich options (almost anything). I waited for lunch. The counter attendant suggested the chicken salad and it was delicious (no fruit in it - yah). I built my own sandwich on sourdough. Perfect light choice after 3 days of over indulging. Service fast. Wi-Fi strong. Would have liked to see a few more lunch options (if I had to pick one thing to improve).

Yelp
My all-time favorite place to have a bagel in Charleston! Expect long lines on the weekends but the bagels are worth the wait! Blondie's also offers a selection of yummy pastries and a decent variety of coffees & beverages. Items are reasonably priced. If only the lunch items were available on the weekends too!
google avatar

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Blondies is a staple on Daniel Island. The interior is comfy and there's a great shaded courtyard-esque area for outdoor seating too. The employees are kind and helpful. The lattes have always been delicious. The lunch menu is tasty but I'd love to see a few more options for sides than just coleslaw. Their March latte special is a must try!

Bailey B.

Yelp
Best chicken salad I've ever had. I was able to customize. Yum! Quick to order online and pick up.
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
Both the food and service was amazing! It was a busy Tuesday morning in the shop which is what led me to stop here and not Starbucks! I got a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, and an iced caramel macchiato which was amazing! 10/10 food. Will be coming back!
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
I held a weekly book study a Blondies throughout the summer and the service/quality of product was consistent every time. The lines can be extraordinarily long, but I think this place is worth it! I've ordered sandwiches, lattes, iced coffee, bagels, and each item I'd order again. Blondies gives a family friendly environment while also providing a place to relax on your own.

Yelp
Cute little place, lots of seating, friendly service. Very fresh and quick. Had a couple of delicious bagel sandwiches. Highly recommended. Early start no wait.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast items, very friendly and fast service, very cute vibes. This place was pretty packed on a Wednesday morning so it must be very popular. There's lots of seating inside and a little bit outside. It's well lit inside and just cute like a typical cafe. They have lots of bagels and homemade cream cheeses, but also a whole assortment of baked goodies in the window and lunch sandwich/salad/wrap options. I got the September special- the sourdough French toast with a side of bacon and cinnamon crunch caramel latte (iced). The bacon is thin and crispy, just how I like it. Both were good although nothing fantastic or mind blowing. My friends got a toasted everything bagel with egg, white cheddar, and bacon, a toasted everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, and a slice of crumb cake. Everything was very yummy. The cashier was really nice and friendly. The food came out very quickly. They also have bags in case you don't finish all your food and want to take it home. Overall, good service, food, and vibes! I'd come back for a good bagel and cream cheese.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
Once again I am so disappointed in the bagels. They are under cooked and not toasted. This is not the first time. I don't want a store credit I want food that is edible when I order it.
google avatar

Kaelyn D.

Yelp
Amazing service, food, and coffee! I live next door so stop by frequently. Their breakfast is amazing. I've been wanting to try the ice cream too!

Randi O.

Yelp
Absolutely love this establishment although closing at 12 is a little unrealistic. y'all should definitely stay open till at least 2 everyday especially on the weekends. would bring in a lot more business
google avatar

Yelp
Very quick making the order. Amazing atmosphere, very bright and airy.
google avatar

Harmon F.

Yelp
The best bagels anywhere in the southeast. Spectacular service by friendly staff. Great atmosphere; very lively. I say all this by someone born and raised in New York--the capital of making great bagels
google avatar

Sydney D.

Yelp
Very reasonably priced and soo good! I got the egg salad wrap and chicken salad wrap. Both were amazing. I don't eat breakfast foods so I was able to get it at 8 am , they were very accommodating! Very cute hang out / study spot and dog friendly
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
I once went and got the highest rated lox bagel in NYC (which was incredible), and have been looking for the closest thing I can find around here, and I finally found it here at Blondies. Their bagels always taste and feel so fresh, and they put the perfect amount of toppings and lox on their sandwiches, but their cream cheese kind of steals the show in the best way! Would recommend trying this sandwich out on a salt bagel if you want a taste of NYC here in Charleston!

Madison W.

Yelp
Fast service and the bagels were yummy. Not a whole lot of seating as the cafe lobby quickly filled up. Next to a church so Sunday mid-mornings will be hectic. Lots of on street parking.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Blondies is such a great spot. Good vibe. And seating outside. Service was quick. The food was amazing especially the chocolate chip muffin. Highly recommend. We'll be back.

Vicky B.

Yelp
Consistently great food with friendly folks. Try the traditional lox bagel. Iced coffee is well made and the area is kept very clean.

Yelp
There are at least five places to get a cup of coffee on Daniel Island: Blondie's, The DIME, Starbucks, Refuel, and Circle K. Each coffee shop and/or gas station, has its own set of plusses and minuses. But from most of the coffee drinkers I speak to, Blondie's food and baked good and things-other-than-coffee stuff tops the list, but its coffee is not the best. That said, for On-Daniel-Island coffee, Blondie's is probably the best nexus between hours open, location, and companion food. That said, if you read the reviews, there can be a bit of a service problem here. The staff is generally well meaning, but it gets busy. If you're in a rush, or are easily irritated by standing around waiting for coffee, do yourself a favor and use their online ordering system. Take a deep breath, enjoy your life and gain some perspective about the kind of life you lead where you get to go to coffee at a place like Blondie's, and then, when you are done reflecting, your coffee will be there waiting on you, and you will have saved yourself from having to stand-in line for what can be a rather long time sometimes. They are very dog friendly. The courtyard usually has a dog bowl for water in it, and if it's not there or empty, just take it inside and get it filled up. That whole courtyard patio area they have is quite lovely and open year around. If you're strictly looking for the *best coffee you can get* and are not looking for food to go with it, you can probably do better going to the DIME. If you're in a rush and want decent coffee quickly, drive across the street over to the Circle K. Yes, it's a gas station, but a lot of high end coffee drinkers here on DI swear it's the best coffee on the Island. That said, if you're looking for a place to maybe have a cup of coffee with a friend, and maybe split a muffin or something, you can't go wrong with Blondie's. Just, for the love of god spare yourself from standing in line and use their website.

Yelp
Was so excited to find a bagel place. I ordered a seasoned bagel w cream cheese on the side. I get the whole way back to work, my fault for not checking my order, I literally ordered a bagel w cream cheese and a ice coffee drink. Didn't think k needed to check my order. It is a bagel place! Anyways, they forgot my cream cheese! So here I am no cream cheese for my now cold bagel! Went the whole way back to get it. And their reply. Oops. Sorry. I get mistakes happen. But come on! How do you not check the order before it goes out.

Lily kate C.

Yelp
Best bagels on the planet. Cute Ambiance. The most friendly workers. A great experience every time.

Nik D.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwiches weren't anything to leave home for. No flavor and came with a pubic hair on top. Staff seemed very frantic. Coffee was decent.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Places like this need to offer more dairy-free options. We are in 2022 and more people have an allergy to dairy or are choosing to be dairy-free. Family likes the bagels though.

Cooper M.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. Don't be scared of the line, they churn out the orders quickly.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
I really love their bagels and love trying the seasonal cream cheeses. The interior is just as cute as the outside and the staff is friendly. My only complaint is the coffee. It's always bitter even with flavor and added sugar.

Penny M.

Yelp
Always excellent food and service! Perfect inside and outside seating. When I have repeat company they always have to come here at least once!!
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
Exceeded all expectations. The menu was very diverse and they were accommodating to requests. Would definitely come back! Quality of food was superb.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Blondie's has some of the best bagels I've ever had! The bagels are always fresh and heavily dipped in ingredients. I always get the everything bagel that is full of flavor; you can really taste the onions, garlic, and other spices and ingredients with a hint of sweetness in the bread. I usually get my everything bagel with egg, cheese, and pork roll. The pork roll is seasoned just right and not really too salty as other places in town that serve similar bagel sandwiches. I also like the coffee there, it's got the right amount of kick to start my day. In addition to bagels Blondie's also serves sandwiches and pastries; but I haven't tried those yet. Service is great here too. Smiling and friendly employees that make sure you get a quality meal or snack.
google avatar

Yelp
Blondies Bagels & Cafe on Seven Farms Drive on Daniel Island is a great place to go for all things bagels, breakfast food, and coffee. I really like the location and atmosphere that they have available here. This is a great place to have a meeting or work. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Morganne M.

Yelp
Honestly I had high hopes for this place. I got the iced white mocha and it wasn't sweet at all. Everything seemed super rushed. I was kinda hoping for a more relaxed atmosphere but this place was super busy and super loud. The pumpkin bread was good but my goodness they load your bagel with cream cheese. Easily a whole stick worth. I even saw other people scraping theirs off the bagel. Half that would even be too much. I can't say I'd want to go back there, there's plenty of other places I'd rather try.
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
Quite delicious. It was a little late for breakfast and a bit early for lunch. The bagels looked delicious and well seasoned. The patrons were raving about how fresh they were along with the homemade cream cheese. I decided on the house made chicken salad on toasted sourdough bread and it really was like homemade, and very generously stuffed. My friend frequents Blondies and always raves about their egg salad, which she got and it was also delicious. The atmosphere was current and quaint and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I took a breakfast sandwich home for a friend and it was also yummy. The service was fast. Lots of salads and interesting sandwich offerings. I'm sure I'll be back.

Stacey P.

Yelp
Went to Blondies for the first time on a busy Saturday. Waited in line 25 minutes, ordered 2 blueberry muffins and 2 cinnamon rolls (rolls were a gift) got home and my son was SO EXCITED about the muffins (his fav)...they were awful! They were mushy and the sugar topping had become moist like syrup. Since that was disappointing, I opened the box of cinnamon rolls and they were so hard, it was like a hockey puck! I knocked on the marble countertop with a cinnamon roll and was son said "that's so unfair" What a waste of $19.00! I'll never go back!
google avatar

Mary U.

Yelp
If it weren't for Waze I would've blown right by this place. It's a cute little coffee shop with bagels or bagel shop with coffee. I can recommend the toasted at Sesame seed bagel topped with peach cream cheese which was the specialty cream cheese that day. It was quite good.
google avatar

Marisa S.

Yelp
Great local place for coffee and bagels! It's in "downtown" Daniel Island- easy walking distance of the river and other shops.

Yelp
Atmosphere: My friends and I were visiting Charleston in the summer and found this little place near the place we were staying at. This place easily became our go-to morning spot for the few days we were there. The interior is so cute and there is plenty of seating, making it a good place to hang out with friends or just sit and get work done. The staff there is incredibly friendly and they were quick on getting our food out to us. Food: My favorite sandwich was probably pepper jack cheese and sausage on sour dough bread. My friends and I decided unanimously that our favorite drink was their iced chai tea latte. The iced chai had the perfect balance of flavor and was the refreshing drink we all needed to quench our thirst in the hot summer weather! We loved it so much that although I was excited to try a new sandwich every morning, the chai became a staple of all of our meals. Would I come back/ would I recommend to a friend? Yes! My friends and I looked forward to eating here every morning. Even if we weren't too hungry, the ice chai latte was all we needed before heading out to explore Charleston.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
When Blondies gets it right, they really get it right!! However, it seems like lately they've been off their game. There's nothing like getting a bunch of coworkers breakfast to go just to get there and they've missed the cheese or put it on a different kind of bagel which can be heartbreaking to someone who is already just having a bad day. I will definitely be back just because their bagels are irresistible, but just know the gamble you're taking when you get your food to go!
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Was in town for the weekend and after driving by this place it became our go-to. Stopped in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. There was a significant wait on Saturday and Sunday as this is a happening place. It has a cute interior with a decent amount of seating. I loved the tea latte and kept coming back for it. I really enjoyed the Ham & Swiss melt. Someone else in our party ordered a bacon, egg & cheese on a bagel and it was just ok. Another time we got a bagel with their homemade cream cheese (pumpkin flavored) and it was not something I would order again. The pumpkin muffin was good but not excellent. All in all I really looked forward to coming here each morning but didn't love all the food.
google avatar

Glenn V.

Yelp
Has anyone here complained about the bagel and pizza dilemma here in Charleston, no matter your home city and state? Of course and although a tired subject, the trends of the tracks still show the imprints. With that -- I had what I felt was positive, and realistically limited expectations -- I guess I was far too predetermined in my preconditions. A lightly toasted Everything with a schmear of scallion cream cheese is my safe and sure. Missing the toasted mark by under a minute, maybe a strong thirty five, it's not a complaint, just was the difference between perfect toasted and not. Can't blame the toastee as we did not speak directly..
google avatar

Bronwen B.

Yelp
I can only review the coffee because that's all I ordered - a caramel macchiato. It tasted great and the temperature was perfect. I received my drink in record time so I am very pleased with my first experience here. The inside is very clean and looks like a great spot to work or hang out with friends. I will be back to try out one of their fresh bagels. During the summer time, they do reopen at 4:00 pm for ice cream. Great spot and location.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bagels! Fully customizable which is awesome, would definitely recommend checking your order before you leave. Whether ordered in person or over the phone, we have left the shop more than a few times with our order mixed up. Pretty disappointing, however they are always eager to please and quickly re-make the proper order. This has been true both before and after COVID. Sub-par coffee. Do NOT come here for the coffee. No matter what barista is working... the vanilla latte tastes EXACTLY the same as a mocha... whoever is working the espresso machine does not know how to mix drinks. Over the last year all lattes have tasted exactly the same; bland. Chai Tea Latte is made with concentrate and really not worth ordering twice. Bottom line: Staff is wonderful and friendly, they certainly know how to make a great bagel. Double check your order and do not come for the coffee.
