Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Says COVID-19 Cases Must Drop Dramatically Before Bars Can Reopen - Eater Dallas

"Blu Community Bistro, the student-run restaurant at Allen High School, is doing what many other restaurants have done during the coronavirus pandemic — embracing the pivot, Dallas News reports. Blu has launched a new program, Blu@home, in which diners can order student-prepared meals for takeout. Each $32 meal serves four people, and the restaurant is limiting orders to 75 a day, with a new menu each week. The restaurant was founded six years ago to give students in the school’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Services program practical experience in working in a restaurant kitchen. Blu serves gourmet dishes cooked with organic ingredients like a grass-fed Waygu burger and a chocolate chip cookie apparently adored by Paula Dean. The deadline to place a weekly order through the Blu@Home program is 8 a.m. on Mondays. Meals can be picked up between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Fridays at the bistro in the high school. Orders have sold out quickly. so be sure to check the Google doc menu and order form regularly." - Brittanie Shey

Yelp
This is a awesome experience and a great way to support the student of Allen high school culinary program. They get to learn all aspects of the restaurant business both back and front house plus customer service. They are open 11-130 Wednesday-a Friday. Check times. Today I had a burger it was great and only $8.

Yelp
I was really intrigued with the idea of a student run restaurant. I had checked out the restaurant from the outside after a football game and I was surprised to see how fancy it was inside. I returned the following week during my day off to have a solo lunch here. I went here around 1 PM, and it was pretty empty. I was greeted by a student who also took my order. I can definitely sense the nervousness so it would be wise to be patient when interacting with them (this is a learning experience for them, after all). I was surprised to see how cheap the food was here, with most plates being around $6-$7! Because I wanted to try as much as I can, I ended up getting the shrimp taco plate and the short rib taco plate, resulting in 4 tacos and a bunch of homestyle chips with aioli sauce. I was really surprised to see how good the tacos were, as well as the chips! I ended up eating everything, hehe. I would love to try more of their items, especially their breakfast which include sandwiches, tacos, and smoothies. During my meal, students as well as their teachers/supervisors came to check up and see if I needed anything. While paying my bill, it was a bit awkward since there was a technical difficulty which was all good with me because I understand its a learning experience. Oh, I also got a cookie to go, which was pretty good. Overall, not only I was impressed with the food but I was happy to see such a cool student run restaurant/culinary program at Allen High School.

Yelp
Blu is a cafe run by the culinary students at Allen High School, it's a great way to support the local high school and to have a great inexpensive lunch. Save room for the desserts! AMAZING!!!! Can't believe these are teens back there cooking. Don't worry, they are highly supervised! ;)
