Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"After a pop-up at Lao’d Bar in April, Austin’s first Cambodian food truck has set up full-time on South Lamar. Blue Apsara is serving spicy Khmer sausage, prahok ktis, num pang sandwiches with pork belly, and other specialties that are hard to find around town." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Blue Apsara serves delicious, hand-made Cambodian food on the corner of S Lamar and Mary st. We had the Apsara steak set, which was tender and flavorful - served with rice. The Cambodian chicken curry was amazing, too! Large-cut potatoes and carrots with chicken that melts in your mouth. We ordered 2 papaya salads to go with our dinner and they were the best I’ve ever had. Everything was super fresh and made to order, spiced and sauced beautifully. You will be hooked once you try this food. Go see the owner, Kim, he’s friendly and fun to chat with! :)

I’m a Cambodian American, meaning my parents escaped the Cambodian genocide, and I was born in the States. Growing up, I remember family dinners and large family/friends gatherings with delicious assortments of Cambodian food. I’ve moved away from most of my family and always miss Cambodian home cooking. Kim, the Khmer owner, is very kind and courteous. I enjoyed the curry, which brings nostalgic memories of my childhood. We had the sandwich, which was my wife’s favorite. The fried egg rolls were delicious, crispy, and meaty. Beef sticks with sticky rice were tasty with a hint of lemon grass seasoning on the beef, which I’ve missed eating since I was young. I recommend trying it out if you haven’t had Cambodian food before. My wife and I will definitely be going back. Extremely grateful for Kim creating such a delicious menu 🙏 and reminding me of my childhood. Thank you

I had no idea what to expect as we had never had Cambodian food. The owner was so sweet- he asked if we had ever had Cambodian food and we said no and he said welcome to Cambodia! lol. The food was fantastic. The chicken curry was excellent and the weeping tiger (beef) outstanding. We also got the appetizers - spring roll and egg rolls which were perfectly prepared as well. We got it all to-go- nice packaging. He said they are adding things to the menu but they had a good selection- I love chicken curry so was glad they had that on the menu- the chicken was shredded and the potatoes in it cooked perfectly. The Weeping Tiger (I did not try, it's spicy) but my husband said was amazing. Def recommend.

I’ve have been waitinggg for a Cambodian spot since moving to Austin years ago! The beef sticks were flavorful. Love the Tiger Steak, the fish, curry and spring rolls. So good I had to get it twice in one week.

First time trying Cambodian cuisine and I'm in love!! I ordered the Cambodian Beef Sticks and my buddy ordered the Cambodian Chicken Curry. Both were absolutely delicious! The owner of Blue Apsara is super kind and friendly, especially for those new to Cambodian food. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

I discovered Blue Apsara walking my dog this morning. I looked at the menu and while a lot of unfamiliar dishes were on there (I don’t think I’ve had Cambodian food before), I saw some items that look familiar and tasty. I ordered takeout for dinner and got the beef sticks with mango sticky rice and egg rolls. The beef sticks were so flavorful and delicious. I especially enjoyed the lemongrass flavor. My only complaint is that I wish it came with more sticks because they’re so good! I love sticky rice but I never get the mango kind. Honestly I couldn’t taste the mango so that was fine by me. Some extra sauce to pour on the rice would be good too. The egg rolls were fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back and need to try more dishes. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Best Asian food in Austin, super authentic and insane flavours. Massive menu. The Laos sausage and sticky rice is unreal. Haven't had food like this outside of South East Asia. Even though it's a food truck there's indoor seating in the plant nursery next door which is super vibey. Kim and his wife are legends too, new to Austin so say hi when you see them! Love coming here

Blue Aspara on South Lamar is not just serving food; it's delivering a warm, incredibly flavorful, and authentic Cambodian experience From the moment I walked up, the service was outstanding. The owners are incredibly kind and greeted me with such warmth. As someone newer to Cambodian cuisine, they patiently offered their suggestions, making me feel welcome and excited! The food is incredibly flavorful, though it can be on the spicier side. Each dish I tried was a vibrant and complex showcase of Cambodian food staples, clearly made with passion and care. The location itself is very central, offering both comfortable outdoor and indoor seating options. Parking is a little tough and there is a lot of ambient noise from Lamar, but still worth it! It's situated right next to Frond Flower shop, and I saw that a Desnudo coffee truck is soon to open nearby, making this little corner a great destination for food and vibes. I would highly recommend Blue Aspara to anyone—whether you’re a lifelong fan of Southeast Asian food or just looking to try something amazing and new!
