Absolutely loved the sandwiches here - they seem to have staples but with a little twist so they feel unique (and the one I got was delicious). Portions were good and although it is on the pricier side, I do feel like the quality of the food made it worth it. Definitely recommend the two chicken sandwiches (weren’t that spicy) especially the one with the thyme and bacon/gouda. Also the tater tots were such a great change up from standard fries, and were crisp and delicious. There also appears to be ample seating indoors and some Outdoor seating too. Lastly, bathrooms were very clean - something that I appreciate!

Love this low key, practical setting, with great menu restaurant. Their salads and sandwiches are perhaps some of the best I’ve had. As most patrons are frustrated with the high cost of living and notice how the prices have increased as the portions have decreased, it’s so nice to see a restaurant that understands what we’re all going through. We loved their salads and sandwiches and will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Great salad and sandwich place. Good for quick bite but also has nice seating. The portions are enormous so be prepared to share or have leftovers. They have prepared menu items but they also have a choose your own toppings salad menu. Has a great array of choices. A good healthy option in the neighborhood, I'll definitely be returning here.

If you are looking for an incredible salad - you just found it! Sometimes they last me two meals, they are so huge! The food here is so amazing and the atmosphere is so fun and friendly! It is fun to get food to go and take it to a nearby park and enjoy a picnic. I highly recommend trying at least one salad (the winer salad is my favorite) and something else like a sandwich. Order with a friend and share! It is also fun to go with friends and it on the back patio! So cozy!

Fantastic food. We had the Northern Fry and the Skirt. They were both amazing! Best tater tots we've ever had.

Lots of seating & friendly staff! However I did not like my salad there was barely any dressing & the grilled chicken was rubbery

When we came for dinner during Fleet Week, they had sold out of all their sandwiches so we got salads and a soup instead. Salad was bigger than I expected and the tomato soup was so delicious and warmed us up! will come back to try sandwiches

Great food, Great service, and Great building!! The tomato soup was delicious, the Buffalo Fry Sandwich was perfectly spicy and the Dino-Kale slaw was the best!! I don't usually like slaw but this was great!! Staff and service was great and the back patio seating was super cute! 10/10

the sandwiches at blue barn were delicious! my friend and I stopped in for lunch and ordered the truffle sandwich and the barn BLT. the truffle was flavorful but not too pungent, and went along great with the melted brie and turkey. I'd definitely order that one again if I came back. my friend enjoyed her BLT as well- she emphasized that the pesto is delicious. the service was very quick- you order up at the counter and they bring your food to you. we sat in the back area which was decorated to be very cute and barn-like. overall, it was a great place to stop for a quick bite! all the ingredients seemed very fresh and the sandwiches were very creative.

I've been supporting Blue Barn since their days at Chestnut, which is now occupied by World Wraps. I already make great salads for myself, so if I'm going go pay someone to make a salad. They better be just as good or better since my diet is mainly proteins, vegetables and I carb cycle. Blue Barn is the only one of their competitors in this district that offers wild salmon and shrimp as options. Yes. They are the most expensive of this model in the neighborhood, but when it comes to nutrition quality and range of options. They are also the best and offer more. I hop around to quality salad bars at grocery stores too. Woodlands Market is great for that by the way. I think the best way is to completely customize your own bowl, especially since they do have seasonal rotations in addition. The service is always kind to me and the ambiance always clean.

I used to love this place but wow $25 for a salad that is 80% lettuce is a joke. They make you pay an extra $1.00 for dressing and very skimpy on all toppings. Would not recommend.

Cute spot to stop for lunch! Good size sandwich- I got the burrata sandwich and it was so flavorful and filling. Everything tasted fresh. There is a lot of seating in the back and the vibe is casual/rustic. Would come again!

Nice salad and sandwich spot on Chestnut. Pretty darn expensive. I got the Waldorf salad, which surprisingly doesn't have chicken, so I added grilled chicken. That was $7. I also got a canned soda pop which was, $5. Here my total reached $34. I planned to leave a cash tip, but forgot to push no tip, and the lowest amount was $5.75, so my total ended up being $40. This feels like a lot for a salad and soda. The salad was a pretty good size and it came with a piece of focaccia. My friend got the spicy tuna salad, which looked good and the tuna was tasty. You take a number and they bring it to you. Kind of took longer than I expected, but maybe that was because I added the chicken.

I've dined at Blue Barn a handful of times now for both dine in and take out. The salads are generously portioned--arguably too large for one sitting--and can run over $25 once you add a protein. Price point aside, the salads are loaded with fresh greens and veggies. I enjoyed the Spring salad twice on my recent visit to SF. The combination of spring beans, shaved fennel, radish, pine-nuts, and crispy quinoa was just right. That being said, the added proteins could use some improvement. The chicken was overcooked on both occasions. Others in my group ordered the turkey sandwich, tomato soup, tater-tots, and fries. I sampled them all and personally find that Blue Barn stands out for their salads. It's a good option for a quick and casual meal.

Amazing salads and krispy treats! Knocking off 2 stars to their awful customer service - they regularly screw up basic orders and show no remorse.

The most 'okay-ish' sandwiches of all time... Extremely overpriced, and even have the cheek to ask for an 18 to 25% tip on top, and you have to collect your own utensils and clear away your own dishes so exactly what are you tipping for! The employees seem to be your typical stuck up type, looking down noses at you. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Was able to seat a party of 9 for lunch today. The food is extremely fresh and flavorful. Grabbed the big buffalo and fries. My friend grabbed the buffalo fry. Everyone enjoyed the food in our party. Only reason for 4 stars was that someone forgot to order fries and we asked if they could bring some fries. They said we would have to go up to the counter and pay for the fries. Seems like after our party spent a few hundred bucks they could get us a bowl of $4 fries. Either way, great food, service was great, we will be back.

Came here on a Monday night for a quick dinner and was sad to find out they no longer did their buy 1 get 1 salads. ( I think it was just a September promotion) Nonetheless, blue barn salads are worth the price and the service is very fast. You order at the counter and choose your own seating. I really enjoy their enclosed back patio. The salads are flavorful and the size of a small mixing bowl. Definitely recommend giving the spot a try for lunch or a casual dinner.

Went over to grab some dinner at around 6 pm and I liked that they had a giant menu near the door. We ordered at the cashier and they gave us a number to know which table to bring it to. The interior was very modern, light and spacious with a cute seating area in the back of the restaurant. We had to grab our own utensils and water as well as clean up afterwards. Big Blue Sandwich - They ran out of caramelized onions so I didn't get the full sandwich but it was very good nonetheless. The ciabatta was crunchy but soft on the inside and the steak was tender in medium rare. The red pepper romesco aioli was flavorful, a combination of sweet, smokey and creamy. The only thing was that the blue cheese was in very large chunks sometimes. Being that it was $18.95, I thought the sandwich would be a little bigger and more filling but it had great flavor and next time, I will need to check out their salads.

Blue Barn's Burrata Sandwich is my favorite sandwich of all time! Their pesto aioli is incredible, and goes so well with the fresh tomatoes, arugula, and burrata, all on a a delicious ciabatta roll! They also offer salads, which I have heard good things about. But definitely try the Burrata Sandwich, and it's a bit cheaper than their other menu items which is a bonus too!

The Cobb salad was great! Generally a bit pricey (with an extra charge for a different dressing on the side). Probably wouldn't do takeout here, but the ambiance inside the restaurant was nice. Mixed experience with the service. Overall, would be happy to return!

Very nice staff but why so expensive... got a salad and a sandwich for $51.... It's hard to enjoy your food w these kind of prices.

Fresh salad with fresh vegetables and sauce. Healthy choices and can fill you up with the bowl salad.

Have heard a lot about blue barn so I was excited to try it for a quick dinner. The buffalo fry sandwich was delicious! The fries are also super thin and crispy. The Thai chicken salad is solid but the sandwich was more flavorful. It's a little on the pricier side but the interior is clean, food was great, and service was kind. Good spot for a quick meal if you're in the area!

very fresh produce and high quality ingredients. However, I went home afterwards and took a covid test (it was negative). There is a total and complete blackout in seasoning. The fried chicken was just... like a cloud of meat. No juices, no salt, no marinade. Just pure chicken protein. Every bite a betrayal of what it means to be a human being. So come here if you require literal sustenance only. Or just eat a pile of protein powder and save your money

I got the turkey sandwich and it was good! I liked how thick the goat cheese was and the tomato-pesto aioli was delicious. I gave it a 4 stars as the service wasn't that great as you order at the front and have to bus your own table but they still charge a 5% service fee.

I've always thought the prices of their salads was way overpriced for about 90% greens - I gave them another chance - super disappointing - the very bland tea leaf salad $22.79?? had lettuce, tomatoes, nuts & the dressing - yuck! not a protein to be had for that price - I'll stick to Delarosa or Causwell's for yummy salads & other well priced items - no way I'll go back there for a chintzy salad!!

Don't get me wrong, their salads are delicious but $20 is too pricy!!! The Thai chicken l, Cobb, and Waldorf are 3 I have tried and really liked. Lots of seating both in their back patio and parklet. Service is quick. I personally love counter service style restaurants for a more casual feel. Overall love the salads and fresh ingredients but don't love the price!

Came to Blue Barn after a long day of travel to San Fran & this was really one of the biggest Caesar salads I've had in my life! I got the kale Caesar and it was amazing. I did ask for an extra side of dressing as my friend said sometimes there is more salad than the amount of dressing you get for it. Our friend got the skirt steak sandwich and was also raving over it. This place was great! We did an online order for pick up.

recently went with a friend to blue barn to get a salad. I didn't realize that there was a zillion different kind of salads, after going from a pick your salad I finally decided on the Thai chicken. At first I didn't think much of it because of the packaging, but, it was enough to last me two days for lunch. The service was really good and came in a to go bag and the ambience felt very much like a ranch. Will probably go back in the future to try a different salad.

Great food, good seating options, nice staff! It was my first time today and will def return.

We love Blue Barn and go there a ludicrous amount. But it's very worth it especially considering the portions easily make each salad two meals. All the locations are excellent but we are partial to Steiner where the staff is super friendly and accommodating. The move is the U-pick salad (a bunch of different ones pictured here). My only minor gripe would be that the seasonal fixings aren't created equal and I wish certain menu items could be offered year round. But overall a major favorite and head and shoulders above any other make-your-own salad joints around town.

It's too bad that this location has gone down hill. New management is needed immediately. I experienced bad customer service followed by a salad with old, wilted, and greens that were turning brown on a $25 salad. I won't be returning.

I have never had food poisoning this bad. I would definitely not recommend this place. I was vomiting within 30 minutes after eating only half the sandwich. Glad I didn't finish the second half. 10:15 - still sick and in pain. I finally fell asleep around 12 am. What a nightmare. Thank you for reaching out Caitlin :)

I ordered their fried chicken sandwich, which was actually pretty good, and came with cole slaw on it. I took my first bite and what did I discover? They put *cilantro* in their slaw. Cilantro, the most disgusting and obnoxious herb known to man, in cole slaw?!? I'm over fifty years old, I've been eating cole slaw for decades, and it never had that foul and repugnant fake parsley. If you're going to put that nauseating herb into anything, at least give people a warning. On their ordering page it said nothing about cilantro. What a way to ruin a very good sandwich.

I come to Blue Barn a few times a week and am always greeted by the kindest staff. They are welcoming and so thoughtful. The food is amazing and consistent. I love the Waldorf salad and Thai Chicken. They are so filling and always have some to take home.

I have been to blue barn a while ago. I got a sandwich..I believe about one other time. I went back today to the one on Chestnut..it says Steiner...I got tomato basil soup with croutons and a piece of bread..also I got tater tots ..took them home in a box..it's a nice menu..interesting way of presenting the food..sandwiches..gourmet..like an East Coast shoreline with sand..perhaps montauk or cape cod..hahaah

For such $$$ salads with 'high quality' ingredients I CANT believe they use cheap seed oils for all of their dressings, sauces and in the fryer! Please do better!!

Food is great.nice servings but the price is overwhelming not even included for the extras just yet.but overall just know you will be spending a good amount of money for a salad and sandwich.i will be going here every blue moon hahaha

Thai chicken salad is my fav salad ever. Perfectly fine chopped, all the flavors are on point, and it's huge. Sooo satisfying!

What a disappointment. We've enjoyed this restaurant for years. Today, I visited with my daughters for lunch. We purchased our 3 salads for $100 and sat outside. A man came up to our table and threw hot sauce. We got up and ran inside. The staff saw what happened and ignored us. The man proceeded to eat our lunch and take what he didn't eat and put into his pockets. We will never return here again. Staff was terrible and did not care about our experience nor our safety. Just Wow.

I got food poisoning also. Very bad had to go to the hospital. They need to be inspected because people health is in danger.

Blue Barn in the Marina is such a trip. Physically it looks like any other blue barn -- hipster rustic. Natural light on one area balancing gloom in another. But ah the ambiance! I get a weird glance from at least one customer each time I dine. I am not a skinny svelte Marina socialite. I come with no pedigreed canine accessory. I stand out in other words. Once it was actually rather off putting. Today it's hysterical. And the salads are great. Easily turned into a grain bowl -- yay. Not cheap, of course. I haven't tried a sandwich but the veggie options look seductive. I've been a loyal fan of the Thai chicken salad for years. Today exploring the detox mix of yummy things you can read about from the menu before you order one and come to the Marina!

Perfect place to go to lunch when unsure what you're in the mood for. Can promise you will not be disappointed - one of my favorite place to impress visitors and take it to a view. If you want to eat inside there, there's ample seating and it has a relaxed, barn type vibe. They are like $20 salads which is expensive, but it is large enough portions to last you 2 meals Notable favorites include: Thai chicken salad, spicy tuna salad, kale Caesar, clubber sandwich, rooster sandwich, kickin chicken sandwich and you must always order the French fries!! (Truffle aioli, ketchup and ranch are all fabulous and dipping variety is always necessary) Postmates & uber offer delivery. Blue barn also offers pickup pre orders on the website but you can't choose a time. Usually is ready for pick up 20-30 mins after ordering.

I've been coming to Blue Barn for over a year now and it's still delicious. The ingredients are very high quality and fresh. Salads are tasty and crafted well. However, I've decided to take off 2 stars for a few reasons: - The basic cold Mary's free range chicken is NOT good - it feels rubbery and tastes like grab and go chicken from Safeway. $7 to add it on. - The salad portions are generous but still expensive for not having any animal protein. A salad is ~$17-$18 and then if you add chicken, it can easily come out to $28 after taxes and fees. For one salad! - They never toss the salads with enough dressing.. and if you want more dressing on the side, they charge you for it, particularly for to-go orders. They need to fix this. Overall, Blue Barn is still a good option but could use some improvement.

Quite literally one of the seven wonders of the SF culinary world, Blue Barn consistently has phenomenal service and food. Is it a little pricey? Yes, but consider the alternatives (all of which are of lesser quality). The backyard space is quaint and cozy, with heaters etc if it gets cold. Highly recommend. - SF born and raised :)

By far the best salad I've had in a long time--Fatoush with salmon - highly recommended. Every single ingredient was insanely delicious, and I'm not exaggerating!

Get the Caesar chicken salad that's mixed with kale leafs in it and don't forget to get their French fries. I'm such a French Fries gal. The French fries is so bomb here I love the freshness of it and it's not overly greasy or salty. I actually feel not so bad eating it. Maybe it's the oil they use? Also their homemade kombucha yum!!! (Writing this review for about 1.5 years ago) This place was always my healthy options of eating in the SF while working and riding around to properties for showings. I'd love this location. The Marin location is great too. Staff is always very friendly and helpful when needed. 5/5 I give it.

Healthy and delicious eating comes at a cost but I personally find the cost to be totally justified. To understand my review you have to know that I am NOT a fan of salads (I've only had food poisoning twice in my life and both times were due to raw veggies). But for the first time in my life I've craved a salad thanks to Blue Barn. The beets & green salad is utterly delicious. I actually had it without the dressing and I still found it to be totally satisfying despite being primarily beets & greens. The candied pecans, hearty farro, yummy croutons and goat cheese all helped! I'm eager to try their other salads but we loved this one so much it seems silly to stray. Of course, you're welcome to create your own salad, which also seems fun! Meat lovers do not fear--despite what it may seem, Blue Barn isn't just for vegetarians or vegans! I highly recommend their sandwiches, with my personal favorite being the Truffle. This beauty is turkey meat on herb focaccia with truffled-garlic aioli and melty chunks of brie and is just so unbelievably tasty! Anyway, a salad or sando here will set you back but so far I'm sipping the Blue Barn Kool-Aid!

Fun restaurant with good eats. Located in Cow Hollow, this restaurant is situated among a neighborhood of restaurants and shops. Metered parking (7.75 per hour on Saturdays) was available but difficult to find. The restaurant decor was rustic barn style. There were a handful of 2-seater outdoor tables. The rest of the seating was inside. Despite being somewhat large in size, the vibe was warm, cozy, and casual. Huge fixed outdoor heaters in the back room kept everyone toasty. My party of 5 and a baby in a stroller visited this adorable restaurant on a Saturday afternoon at about 1:30 pm. The place was packed and there was a line at the counter where you place your order. There were about 6 people in front of us. The menu consisted of salads, sandwiches and sides. Salads could be personalized by using the "U-pick" salad form. You could also selected a salad off the general menu. We ordered the Rooster sandwich, the vegetarian Buddha sandwich , the Turkey sandwich, 2 Buffalo Fry sandwiches and tatter tots, then found a table in the back room. Finding a table (esp with a stroller) was tricky (but doable) because of the crowd. Our food arrived quickly and was plated well. The food was delicious but heavier than expected. The portion sizes were big. Service was good. There were 2 tiny gender neutral, single user restrooms. One was out of order during our visit. Overall a wonderful place for lunch! *By the time we left at about 2pm, the restaurant was only 1/2 full.

A great salad and fast casual staple! Prices can seem high but portions are very large. Everything is so so tasty that you can't go wrong. You can easily get two meals out of your order by splitting it in half.

I'm not sure why it's rated 3.5 but I liked the Burrata sandwich (vegetarian) a lot - it was delicious and creamy - the pesto taste was overpowered by creaminess of Burrata but I enjoyed it. Although, I think fries on the side would have been a really good addition. The shop is cute and Halloween-y, even on a rainy day a lot of people were going in and out. My friends also enjoyed their Kickin' chicken sandwich and it looked good. I wish they had more vegetarian options to choose from.

Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They are more of a quality sandwich over quantity. Portions could be a little bigger but the quality was amazing. I ordered the truffle sandwich and and the truffle was enough where it complimented the sandwich but not overpowering. I will be definitely ordering this again and I can't wait to try their other sandwich items.

It was a great experience. At first I was a bit off put by the prices, but then as I received my food and took a couple bites it made sense. It's very well made and a hint of home. Please go you won't be disappointed! Plus they also have a variety of healthy options
