On the Grid : Blue Bottle Coffee

"We’re glad to see Blue Bottle pop up all over LA. My first experience was when I lived in San Francisco, but now you can get your New Orleans Iced Coffee down the street— perfect for these sunny days. With a big, open, minimal space, Blue Bottle has no wifi which is oddly refreshing, reminding us to slow down once in a while." - Onyx

"Blue Bottle is a top-notch coffee roaster and café with a sustainable ethos, in multiple locations throughout LA, the Bay Area, NYC, (and Tokyo). This Beverly Grove outpost is one of the more spacious ones, with outdoor and indoor spots to sit and sip, including a communal table. It also offers a few snacks, sandwiches, pastry items. We're there for the coffee, though. Our picks: The siphon filter and the New Orleans iced coffee. "

The coffee is very good-bottom line. The service is standard, no going out of their way to meet customer requests—no Stevia…not super accommodating. Pastries obviously not made in house but should get better from better source. Cramped for what it was-could use space better and make more accommodating. Overall OK experience w very good coffee.

I used to enjoy coming here for the coffee. Many of the baristas are super nice, and the quality was usually good. However, the inconsistent closing hours have become a real problem. They used to close at 7pm, then it changed to 5pm. A few weeks ago, they closed at 4pm, then 3:30pm, and today 2pm! Meanwhile, other coffee shops in the area remain open, so this feels like a management issue, or maybe the staff isn’t being treated or paid properly. To make things worse, I came in last week at 4:57pm (05/27). A new barista told me, “We are closed.” I pointed out it wasn’t 5pm yet, and she repeated, “We are closed,” clearly annoyed. I asked to speak with Peter, the manager, and she snapped, “What do you want?” I still got my coffee, but it was mostly foam (see picture). What a joke! It’s disappointing. If this keeps up, I’ll stop supporting this brand. Loyal customers deserve better.

If you are looking for a decent coffee in LA, look no further than Blue Bottle. They have a chain of stores all over the states and I have been to stores in LA and NY and they have all been great! Coming from and Australian who loves his coffee.

Google
I absolutely love this place! The coffee is the best in town, and the staff are simply fantastic—friendly, welcoming, and always make me want to come back. It’s more than just a coffee shop; it’s a feel-good experience every time))

Google
A great coffee place for you who want something simple and really good. Easy to park around in the area or on the street. Great staff and very service minded. Want a sweet treat I can recommend the small bottles with fruit smoothies (from Alain Miliat ) They also have a really good assortment of coffee mugs and more.

Google
Stopped in and had a pourover and crossaint. The pourover was well done, though they didn't have any offerings that were too adventurous in terms of tasting notes. The crossaint was excellent and worth the price. Barista was really nice in helping me choose the p/o coffee.

Google
Good location, plenty of street parking. This location has a great setting area inside but cannot be used during pandemic, no outdoor seating. Friendly service, coffee as always very good. Decently sized retail section to purchase coffee tools and accessories. Don't forget to order waffle 👍

Elena the cashier is super helpful, kind, and attentive. She gives great coffee recommendations, too. She made my first time at Blue Bottle a pleasant experience worth coming back for. I tried the sweet latte, was yummy.

Yelp
i need almond butter toast back, it was very tasty and I know many people miss it too!

Yelp
Their NOLA (cold) always hits the spot!! Super strong, creamy and smooth - love it with oat milk Small modern store with a few tables - more outdoor seating where they share a plaza with other restaurants. Very clean feel Always grab/go for me here

Yelp
Came in around 11:30am on a Saturday to no line. The baristas were all super friendly and I got my order extremely fast. I've always loved blue bottle and this location didn't disappoint, my iced americano had perfect the ratio and taste. I liked the interior of this location too - very clean and minimalist.
google avatar

Yelp
This is some seriously good coffee. I'd recognize that Blue Bottle anywhere, and for good reason. Service was quick despite it being a busy Saturday AM. Clean interior with places to sit and a calming and natural design.

Yelp
Always a pleasure coming here for some java, vibes are always right and the coffee never disappoints.

Yelp
I love Blue Bottle Coffee, but the staff at this location are truly exceptional! They are radiant and always welcoming. Thank you for your hard work.

Yelp
First time to have this delicious coffee I don't think I have ever had a more smooth cappuccino with organic oat milk before in my life... Kudos, Blue Bottle coffee. Kudos...

Gibson D.

Yelp
The best coffee shop ever, the people are so nice and literally the fastest service of all time
google avatar

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee is expensive but high quality coffee so it's worth it. Only complaint is that they're almost always out of pastry, especially croissants in all locations! They need to figure out their pastry inventory to take their buisness to the next level. I LOVE their Everything Croissant which is not at other locations. 4 out of 6 times they were out :( Service is whatever, simple mistakes here and there and the ambiance is basic and okay.
google avatar

Camille L.

Yelp
Always simple and delicious coffee. Cute space, but maybe not the most comfortable seating for working or sitting and chatting with people.
google avatar

Yelp
It wasn't a bad experience. I just wasn't anything different from any other coffee shop in Seattle. It took really long to get the coffee and it wasn't a special taste. The service was ok but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was inconvenient to the staff by taking so long deciding what I wanted. Felt rushed.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Please bring back the almond butter toast! It's the reason I come in (and it balances out the high prices for coffee).

David C.

Yelp
Good coffee great staff, rare for this neighborhood. Will be back! I recommended the Nola shakerato, it's well worth the price of admission
google avatar

Yelp
I love their hot chocolate! The baristas are friendly and the service is quick for pickup. The space is nice to sit for a cup of tea/coffee.

Yelp
Wow what a place. Walked in and just got ignored even though barista was looking straight at me. When he eventually acknowledged me, he seemed like he is really unhappy about me being there. Ordered coffee and they were out of milk. What? A coffee place out of milk? Ordered matcha latte and a smoothie, all was meh especially for the price that we paid. Please do better.

Yelp
Hannah is awesome and she is super pretty and gorgeous. She made a great recommendation for the cardamom coffee. I highly recommend it. It tasted like heavens and was perfect for the weekend. Thank you Hannah for being so kind.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with a very sparse, modern design. There was a good-sized line on a Sunday morning but it moved quickly. Counter folks were friendly. I tried the "New Orleans" coffee and it was, as advertised, on the sweeter side with that interesting chicory flavor. It comes with sugar and milk and such already mixed in, so no need to add anything. I liked it but didn't love it. The baked goods all appeared very fresh and we tried one of the salted chocolate cookies. It was enormous and delicious. Prices are on the high side and the atmosphere is not as homey as I might prefer but really, no complaints. I would return.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. Manager needs to get on top of it. Waited 20 minutes for oat latte with nobody in there. Not the first time this has happened. Go to Verve down the street. Better coffee and better experience
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cool and modern coffee place in LA. The interior is clean and modern with lots of white walls and light brown woods. They have a large selection of coffees including their signature New Orleans Iced coffee. They also have a selection of pastries. Since it was our first time, the staff recommended their signature New Orleans Iced Coffee. If we didn't like it, they offered to make us something else! You don't get that kind of guarantee at a Starbucks. It turns out the coffee was quite good. Incredibly smooth and mildly sweet with a little hint of chicory which apparently makes this a New Orleans coffee. Drink it fast, though, since the paper straws start to disintegrate fairly quickly. The parking in the area is dreadful, but that's pretty much the entire city of LA. If you circle the block a few times you will (hopefully) find an open meter.
google avatar

Tayler F.

Yelp
Ordered an oatmilk latte. Quick friendly service and great coffee! You can't ask for more than that. It is expensive but I think it lives up to the hype.
google avatar

Christian A.

Yelp
The place can be busy but they get orders out quickly. Nice lit cafe, I just wished they had plugs (but I think we know why they don't have any). NOLA is our favorite drink.
google avatar

Sepi H.

Yelp
Went here this morning and although they had 4 employees they seemed the most unorganized. They had 3 people making coffee, one was constantly walking around in the back and no one was taking orders. 2 people left during this duration. Not sure who is scheduling and managing but it's not done well. Then when I asked a simple question on how much of an ingredient is in the alternative dairy products it seemed impossible for them to find out!

Yelp
Coffee and space is good but the staff here is always rude, too cool for school and unhappy. I will not be going to this specific location again.
google avatar

Tim N.

Yelp
Have to give the biggest shoutout to this location. The coffee is the best for sure and if you didn't know, now you know! On top of that the people who work here are also the best. Always super friendly, positive, overly attentive and always beyond helpful. I can't say enough about how badass the employees who run this Blue Bottle are. Thanks for being rock stars guys and gals! Also for the always epic cup of coffee. My top choice: New Orleans with oat milk

A N.

Yelp
Not sure why things were so expensive, compared to SF. In fact, I was surprised to see that they had an "overcharge violation" posted at their door, so not sure if this was specific to this retail location. Apart from that, coffee was great -- we ordered the latte, and cafe mocha, and our go-to waffle. Place seemed to be dog friendly (caveat: we have a small, friendly pup, who is sits calmly just like a service dog).
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
I have been here many times and the staff are always kind and helpful. The coffee and drinks are very good and made with care. The food is also good, though I wish there were a few more choices but that's okay. I'll go back for sure I really like this place
google avatar

Blair S.

Yelp
Besides being super pricey and selling so many super expensive things. That they can offer Wi-Fi is definitely a downer. Obviously not gonna install it since it's placed been around several years and still no Wi-Fi according to the site. And the staff sometimes was friendly, but normally acts like they're better than you in gods because they're making coffee. It's just F-en Coffee. So I'm always giving my money to other businesses that are nice and offer Wi-Fi.
google avatar

Yelp
The iced latte tasted mild and earthy, which I liked. Studying inside was quite nice since there are a lot of seating arrangements. Parking is free in the morning on Sundays until 11 am; I'm not sure how weekday parking fares. Also, a lot of beautiful dogs make their way into the coffee shop on Sunday mornings; they make for a nice visual break from the computer/phone screen.
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
The iced latte with oat milk (who knew this goes well with coffee) was delicious!! There was a subtle sweetness to the latte and I was in love! The coffee was smooth and without the burnt taste! Parking: street parking Price: kinda pricey for a latte (no extra charge for oat milk, but if you want almond milk it'll cost you and extra $1.50 yikes!!) Service: baristas weren't as friendly as other places in the area Overall: I'd give the latte 4 stars but cost and service were under par.

Jo H.

Yelp
Got a large New Orleans with whole milk today. Found a fly in my coffee. Disgusting. This is for a $6 coffee... No number to call to notify store/manager- number to corporate and asks me to "send an email."
google avatar

Yelp
The only Blue Bottle I've tried is their location across the street from Grand Central Market. When I randomly came across this one in Beverly Grove, I decided to check it out to see how it compares. I came early morning so thankfully it wasn't crowded and parking was easy to find in front of the shop. Had my usual iced mocha and it was as strong as it was at their DTLA location. If you want some good strong coffee, Blue Bottle is where you need to be.

Yelp
Hipster coffee spot that's missing the key essentials ------------///----------- First, let's start with the pros - kitchen looks like it's straight out of Food Network - cool 80's music - clean looking layout, could easily be like a restoration hardware showroom - exposed brick - beautiful hipster patrons Now for the cons - NO DIRECT NUMBER. The number listed is a voicemail at their Oakland headquarters. So I had to look on yelp for parking info (and "valet" is bs; there is no valet. you're on your own) - NO OUTLETS. C'mon, everyone there is working on a MacBook Air or has an iPhone, and you have zero outlets?? - NO PARKING. Had to circle the block five times to find a spot. And this is a high accident corner due to the incessant speeders , so that made it even more fun to go slower than the speed of traffic - NO WIFI. This I do not understand. You obviously have the technical know how in your store (Square card payments, Nest thermostat). What gives? - NO CUSHIONED SEATS. My ass hurts in these chic looking chairs that I can't sit on for more than 10 Minutes at a time As for the coffee and the cake? Average, nothing to write home about (gasp!)

Yelp
just another blue bottle. place is very clean but welcome to la! paying $10 for a tiny watery iced latte is a no no. thats why generally i dont come here. i also dont understand the iced drink in a hot cup. can you not afford iced cups & straws?
google avatar

Juvi G.

Yelp
Minimalism is the word here, but they've somehow managed to make it all look super-expensive. I guess that's what makes it hipster. Anyway! The coffee is great. If you're more of a Starbucks fan, you may hate this place as they don't have paragraph-long signature drinks on the menu. However, the coffee itself is superb quality and they are serving it up with a little something I like to call "oat milk." Because it's made from oats. It's the newest thing in LA, and trust me, it makes your coffee- hot or iced- deliciously rich and nutty. The pastries are good, but nothing to jump up and scream about. The menu is modest, but well-rounded. The take-away section just offers more of their bottled coffee. And the space leaves much to be desired in the way of furniture. But hey, if you're in the area and can shell out good dough for coffee, why not?

Yelp
When I came in on a Sunday morning, the place was packed. The line was pretty long but it didn't take too long before it was my turn. I ordered an Iced Caffe Mocha ($6.50). I was told my order was going to be 15-25 minutes wait, which I didn't mind. The drink was mediocre. It tasted like a watered-down "hot" cocoa that got iced dunked in. The ambiance was nice. I like the setup of the place. There were plenty of seats for me to choose from. If I had come with the intention to socialize with a friend, I think I may have had a better experience. I used to pass by this coffee shop every time I went next door to get an acai bowl and saw a lot of people reading and studying. Which gave me the impression that it would be a good place to study. Unfortunately, there weren't any wall-plugs to charge my laptop/tablet. The playlist at the time of my visit consisted of what sounded like rock and rap, which made it hard to focus. The seating along the walls had a weird set up. I found myself hunched back working on my laptop, which really hurt my back. When a seat at the long table opened up, I immediately snagged myself a spot. It was a better working space. I had to text a friend I was expecting to pick another study-spot. I already ordered a drink and put money in the meter so I decided to stay until it was up. I probably won't be coming back here again. If I really had to whatever circumstance that may come up in the future, I'd order a hot drink to see any difference in how the taste comes out.

Yelp
I LOVE this location! It's so cute and airy with plenty of seating options. You can sit outside and people watch on Beverly or inside to sit with friends or alone. The staff are friendly and welcoming with brief conversations about pastries/food. All in all is an excellent shop to meet with friends in the area for brunch, breakfast or a cup of their fragrant perfectly roasted coffee.
google avatar

Jon M.

Yelp
I had the 3 Africas Coffee which was excellent-strong and full bodied, with a slight fruitiness. The place is aesthetically nice but frankly not comfortable. The acoustics are terrible making it really noisy wherever you sit. I could find no power points which is a big hassle in a Cafe. My small coffee in the attractive glass was $4-double Starbucks price-just not worth it. The Barista also barely knew why the shop is called "Blue Bottle". He mumbled something about the first coffee shop was called that in the 1500s; I think as he seemed to be winging it. Most of the chairs are stools and very uncomfortable. So I would give this place a pass-definitely overrated. Oh Yeah...the worst part was the flies buzzing around. I award blue bottle most annoying flies in a Coffeeshop and I have been to alot of them. The A/C was good but the flies forced me to sit outside in the heat and the loudmouthed pseudo intellectuals' cacaphonous banter.
google avatar

Yelp
Coffee was yummy, but the customer service from Billy made my day! So helpful, kind, and made me feel at home.

Dylan W.

Yelp
If you want super trendy overpriced coffee that will be ready by sometime tomorrow afternoon, go here!
google avatar

Herc B.

Yelp
Love this spot, Try the Nola Ice coffee, thank me later. They also have really good snacks and sandwiches.
google avatar

Arash V.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have been here many times but today was the worst experience that I ever had in a coffee shop. Just look at what I paid $10 for, just put a bit of effort please.
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
The worst service from the short tattooed hipster dude making drinks who answered super condescendingly when I asked which coffee blend he was handing me. Sweetie, I lived in San Francisco when Blue Bottle was first launched and hipsters were still kind of cool. Don't come at me with your Coldplay beanie and give me attitude. Shockingly, the Beverly Hills location of this place has WAY better service and none of the negativity.
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
My favorite coffee spot ... been looking for best americano for a long time and found it here ! Thanks to baristas for great customer service
google avatar

Jaycob D.

Yelp
Waste of money wow... $5 for this? I thought blu bottle was top quality?? Definitely not coming back to this location!
google avatar

Shannon N.

Yelp
For lack of better words, I kept hearing others say Blue Bottle Coffee (employees) were somewhat pretentious (okay, snotty) so I wasn't sure if I really wanted a shot of attitude with my already overpriced coffee. Biting the bullet, I was on the way to work where I saw there was a meter with money on it, and no line in the shop so I figured this was an ideal time to give them a try. The inside was stark, clean and minimalistic, just my kind of place. Even though I had an idea of what I wanted, I still gave the menu a second glance. While the beverage selection is higher up on the wall, the food menu is posted in an 8x10 by the register. What I was still unsure about was the selection of milk used; I heard there was no soy (although one reviewer here said he loved his soy coffee but he was probably confused or reviewing the wrong place) and almond milk was used instead. I decided on the Caffe Latte and when I asked what kind of milk was used, he said whole. Here's the thing: for years, I was strictly a whole milk kind of girl until a couple years ago when I switched to soy. But since this is not a dealbreaker-nor am I faithful-hearing 'whole' cheered me up. I haven't had this in so long and with this new coffee, I was looking forward to it. Obviously this place takes a little longer than Starbucks and the like but I'll say it was worth it. When my name was called, he slid over my to-go cup so I was able to see the foam art. I didn't want to ruin this so I added just a little sugar on top. So as for the service, I experienced zero attitude, and the cashier was actually cool when I confessed it was my first time visiting. Not sure of the size of the drink, but it was $4.50, a quarter more than my usual tall vanilla soy latte, and it was just as enjoyable. Due to the parking, I may not be able to indulge as much but I'll certainly drop by if I come by another Blue Bottle.
google avatar

Diana H.

Yelp
Second time trying their coffee and I can say I am now a fan. Their coffee options are very straight to the point but great taste. Coffee is a bit pricey for their one size options but it's pretty worth it. Service was great and you can tell people enjoy worming there. I ordered the iced cafe mocha and I loved it. I'll be coming back!
google avatar

Hamilton G.

Yelp
Quite simple review here. I had their Caffe Latte. It was delicious! I'm not a coffee drinker but it was chilly that day and I wanted something warm. I'm glad I chose the latte, it was quite good. The place was not busy at all, plenty of seating available, and it was clean and organized. The staff was super friendly and courteous, thank you! The only drawback coming here is finding parking, circle around the block if necessary, do not get a ticket! I do recommend this place, enjoy!
google avatar

Sandra C.

Yelp
They fix their mistakes. I Initially wasn't happy that they messed up my order. However, they contacted me to resolve the issue. I guess Il give them another shot since I work in the area and I pass by every day.

Yelp
Great coffee, friendly staff, clean and open environment! No wifi bring your hotspot Parking is restricted on side streets to permit holders and only 2 hour meters available so no camping out here.
