On the Grid : Blue Bottle

"Blue Bottle can be found only sparsely outside of San Francisco, and the Arts District has its own location to brag about. Formerly housing Handsome Coffee Roasters, the Blue Bottle storefront is airy and relaxing, until you sip their coffee and that chill is officially broken into a caffeine-fueled frenzy. Their coffee is strong and delightful; for a summer treat, try their cartons of New Orleans Iced Coffee, flavored with chicory and cane sugar." - verynice

I really liked this cafe because it has high ceiling, spacious, airy, roomy and comfortable vibes. The cashier was really nice and polite. He smiled and expressed a positive and friendly attitude towards the customers. I ordered 4 pastries to go and they were delicious, airy, crispy, buttery and not too sweet. I can’t wait to come back and try their coffee next time!

Google
I always love Blue Bottle Coffee but living in Seattle means that I can’t have it very often outside traveling. So I always go to literally every blue bottle coffee whenever I get a chance, across the states and countries. But let me just say that this place has the BEST SERVICE EVER! I absolutely loved it, they make me feel so welcome and appreciated. Literally everyone I encountered was sooooo nice! And their waffles were so yummy. If you only have time for one Blue Bottle during the visit, this one has to be it!

Google
The Iced Nola was awesome!! I tried it for the first time and loved it. Also the staff was very helpful and kind. Enjoyed my experience a lot overall

Google
I had a hot chocolate from Blue Bottle. The taste was good — not too sweet, just right. I’d say it was pretty standard. I was planning to give it 5 stars, but the staff didn’t seem very friendly, at least from what I felt. Maybe it was because I went there at the last minute, but the interaction didn’t leave a great impression. Their behavior wasn’t exactly rude, but it wasn’t welcoming either.

Google
If Starbucks is Audi, then Blue Bottle is Rolls-Royce. The coffee is exceptional. The place is cozy and clean — a very good spot to read books or write.

Google
I got the iced cafe latte and as usual it was really good. There’s just something about the coffee where it just tastes very genuine that other places can’t replicate.

Google
Nice cafe. There was no matcha unfortunately out of stock. The hot chocolate and americano were fine.

Google
The service was top notch ✨ Wait for quite some time for our coffee and it came out wrong but they change it and gave us a free coffee voucher to compensate. Will get my coffee here again when I visit.

Yelp
If a meteor was hurtling towards earth and I had the opportunity to come here for one last cold brew, I'd do it. The vibes are vibing, the coffee is top tier, and the service is not only warm and refreshing, it makes you jealous of people coming in for the first time because it's just that memorable.

Yelp
4+ Nice, spacious Blue Bottle Coffee location in the heart of DTLA right across the street from the Grand Central Market and next to / attached to the Bradbury Building. Coffee here is consistently good and the people were friendly. I came in the afternoon, so it probably wasn't as busy as say the morning or something like that. Ordered a latte and it came out pretty promptly and was well made. Great location in terms of being in the heart of a busy area in DTLA, but not so great personally - in terms of thinking about going to the area and finding parking. Definitely a great spot I would hit up if I was in the area and wanted my caffeine fix or if I had to work or have jury duty in the area. I probably wouldn't drive to this area and try to find parking specifically for this place.

Yelp
Had a wonderful first visit here this weekend! It was nice and quiet inside and super spacious. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable but definitely short staffed when we stopped by, even then we were given great customer service. I ordered their version of a cortado along with the pumpkin loaf, and all of it was delicious, and as expected, we also ordered Affogatos and that was so beyond delicious. Like I'm sitting here writing this and craving the flavor their beans had with the ice cream. It was definitely a hit! I would come back if I was ever in the area again

Yelp
The price of the matcha was exorbitant but the drink itself didn't really acquit the cost. What helped is that the store is beautifully kept and is in a perfect location. Rest your legs from walking at this location with plenty of seating and beautiful lighting. Service gets the job done and they made my drink ridiculously fast.
google avatar

Mayra S.

Yelp
For a cafe in the middle of DTLA, the atmosphere is super calm, taking you out of the outer chaos. Price is pretty reasonable and the iced coffee was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice chill vibe, friendly service, and serve a delicious cafe mocha (smooth cacao flavor). Also, their bakery goods look very appetizing so I ordered an almond croissant to go.

Yelp
We were visiting the Bradbury building lobby and decided to stop in at Blue Bottle Coffee to grab a drink. This location is also across the street from Grand Central Market. I ordered the Iced Matcha tea with whole milk. Service was great. While waiting on the drink, I took in the space. I liked that they preserved some of the architectural elements of the Bradbury in the space. My iced matcha was ready in a jiffy. I tried it and it wasn't too sweet so I went over to add some simple syrup in it. I appreciate that they have simple syrup and not just sugar packets for cold drinks. The worst is when sugar clumps in a cold beverage. Great spot for coffee or tea. The dining area is clean and spacious if you're looking for a place to do some remote work. Check out Blue Bottle when you're in the area.

Yelp
Love this blue bottle location. It's open and airy and across the street from grand central. Get some coffee to go and walk grand central!

Yelp
Decaf latte was so good. Tempted to go back and buy the beans. Place is clean and nice, great for a coffee date, and then you can take a walk to the Bradbury building where Justin Timberlake shot one of his music videos. If the date continues to go well, make it into lunch and walk across the street to the Central Market. Place would also be good for studying. Servers are nice, but the person who makes your coffee was a bit cold. I guess she didn't like I was taking pics or asking if she was making my drink. Made the experience kind of go down considering I was excited about this place. Costs for the coffee are kind of high for how much you get, but the quality is there. Parking ok street is possible, but I imagine is difficult on weekends.

Yelp
The cashier taking our order was very sweet & gave us good recommendations. I usually get the Nola shakerato but decided to try the Nola cold brew instead. It wasn't as sweet & tasted strong. I liked the coffee flavor but definitely would've liked some more sweetness to it . The service was fast & there weren't many people there when we went. Nice relaxed vibe to just sit and enjoy a coffee

Yelp
Prime location right across the street from Grand Central Market. Staff was friendly. Only purchaed their pastries during my visit. The pastries itself were lacking in flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent NOLA style coffee. Love that chicory underneath the coffee. The oat milk they use is really creamy good too

Yelp
Established in 2002. Blue Bottle is a trendy/hipster coffee chain with over 99 locations around the world Blue Bottle Coffee is considered third-wave coffee where there's a priority in sourcing the finest ingredients (coffee beans) from small farms and are roasted more to bring out more robust flavor. Nestle is a majority owner in Blue Bottle Coffee My wife is really into this brand so we try to come here every once in awhile to try their different coffees. She got some Matcha Latte. It was pretty good.

Yelp

Yelp
I stopped by Blue Bottle for a quick afternoon pick up in the middle of our LA day trip before heading into Grand Central Market across the street. I have had Blue Bottle a handful of times at other locations and have enjoyed the Iced NOLA in the past (especially once when they had an orange blossom version). My friend ordered the Shakerato which was by far the better of the two items but comes at a hefty price tag ($9). The shakerato was sweet and creamy, whereas the NOLA was more of a lightly sweetened ice coffee. The only thing that takes Blue Bottle down a star for me is the cost. The drinks are good but not necessarily innovative and for someone who is not a coffee snob, I don't feel like I can justify the added cost. This is definitely one of the nicest blue bottle locations with ample space to do work, I do wish that all locations were like this.

Yelp
Love this BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE location at the Bradbury Building. Great coffee in a historic and beautiful building located across the street from Grand Central Market. There is no line to get in. There is a very short line to order; not because there aren't any customers, but because the workers are fast. Ordered their MATCHA LATTE for the first time every and it was great. HOT CHOCOLATE is also good - per the kids... I love the fact that this is one of the few places in Downtown Los Angeles that opens early in the morning. I could swing be BEFORE going into the office and not have to interrupt myself when I'm already in the zone just to caffeinate.
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
My favorite cup of coffee! I'm always thankful when I get to enjoy a blue bottle since it's nowhere near where I live. The atmosphere and the aesthetics themselves are super cute and very modern. Even when it's crowded because of how big the building is, you can still hear yourself think. Great place to study great place to catch up! Service is a little slower (only downer).
google avatar

KD S.

Yelp
This coffee was good, just overpriced. I'm a coffee snob so I can appreciate the quality, but I will admit that I wasn't mind-blown. The customer service was great which made the experience worthwhile; but it's definitely not somewhere I'd find myself on a routine basis.

Yelp
Blue Bottle kids meal? Yup! No changing table in the bathroom & no high chairs, but thanks to super kind & thoughtful Alejandro they sure nuff were able to cater to my 11 month old. They let me order a simple slice of toast with butter and sliced it up into strips for her. She housed it. Was grateful to be able to feed the baby while I got my caffeine fix. If you are there early (before 9am), there is an $8 maximum charge lot right across the street that is great if you have business to do downtown.

Yelp
I like this place and the employees look clean and competent. The food is fresh and has a good taste. The only drawback is that the place closes at 5pm.

Yelp
While strolling the streets of DTLA on a lazy Sunday midafternoon, we happened upon this place. I've heard of Blue Bottle, and now I'm going to finally check it out. I didn't purchase any food since we were going to go to Central Market which is close by to Blue Bottle. When I purchased my NOLA coffee at the counter, the service was good. My drink was also good. Pricey, but good tasting. We didn't stick around to enjoy our drinks, but I liked the ambiance. Several places to sit, or stand at a table if you so desire. Located right next to the Bradbury building.
google avatar

Elena M.

Yelp
Clean clean clean coffee spot! I was surprised considering the area. The bathrooms were spotless! I got a mocha but I felt like it wasn't warm enough. Within 5 minutes I felt like it was cold. If you like a warm drink, ask for it extra hot! Great place to get work done or people watch.

Yelp
I went to DTLA for my dog hospital and I have to wait for while there so I just stop by this place. Blue bottle was my favorite go to spot in NYC & DC area when I used live there before. I ordered my favorite sweet ice latter. Always great latte! I thought latte is one of best. My friend ordered ice americano but it was ok. Highly recommend sweet latte. Must try this place latter. Served little a bit slow, but staffs were very kind. very clean and modern interior.
google avatar

Julie X.

Yelp
I came around 1PM, they ran out of basically everything... and then there's no outlets here if you're planning to study. Only street parking but it's downtown so you'll have to be really lucky. What really annoyed me was the wifi, it went in and out 3 times within 15 mins.... I had to stop typing on Google docs and waited for it to reconnect which effed up my momentum... Coffee is okay, nothing too special but not terrible. The place is spacious with tables and good to study but like I said no outlets.

Yelp
Superb coffee, have never had a bad cup of coffee at Blue Bottle. Never. I left Starbucks as a customer for their bad bitter coffee, non-compliance with European tax laws and destroying the health of millions. Millions. Starbucks is serving us coffee flavored ice cream sundaes. Millions of sundaes disguised as coffee. I am glad there are now coffee choices that are ethical, one source, better coffee and simple menus like Blue Bottle. End of Yelp.

Wallace D.

Yelp
Although I have fallen in love with coffee from Blue Bottle. I am consistently asked if my dogs are service dogs by specific cashiers. It would make sense if I stay, but I always order TO GO and leave, and at this point I come in often enough where the answer isn't going to change bc of a different day. I have had several instances of being behind people with dogs and they not being asked but I am. As a black patron of the store, it's starting to feel targeted.

Yelp
Iced matcha was amazing . Not too sweet or too milky . The service was quick just wish they put lids on the drinks right away . The vibe is quiet coffee shop not the friends stinky couch vibes .

Yelp
Great place and amazing coffee. Highly recommend. Super clean and quiet. Coffee is smooth, with a great taste. Not bitter like the chain places we all know about.

Yelp
I became acquainted with Blue Bottle coffee in SF, and I've been looking forward to getting some of their delcious Premium Java here in LA. This location did NOT disappoint! The location itself is really large and airy, with ceilings that are pretty high. The impression of height is enhanced by the fact that there's a focal wall which is covered from ceiling to floor by shelves. The feeling of height combines with their selection of furniture to make the interior seem almost like a modern, university library. Tip: The people who've visited this location when I've been there all seem to be in the general vicinity of thirty (give our take a decade or so). On my first visit, despite the fact that it was the middle of the afternoon (after the lunch rush, but well before the end of the work day) almost all the tables were occupied, and there was a fairly long line to place an order. Knowing what was coming, we waited patiently and were rewarded with a pair of excellent hot espresso drinks; a mocha and a latte. Good things come to those who wait ;-) The prices here are a bit higher than your average premium coffee shop, but the quality of Blue Bottle's Premium Java and well worth it!

Yelp
What's there not to love about Blue Bottle Coffee? Service, ambiance, coffee, food, etc. is always great no matter which location you visit. This particular location in DTLA had to be the largest one I've visited. Employees were very friendly and overall the shop was very clean and had tons of tables scattered around the shop for customers to sit down and enjoy their coffee. I ordered the iced Nola with whole milk and it was delicious. I normally don't drink lattes, but this one was subtly sweet and rich. They have a hot version as well as a spicy one on the menu as well. My friend doesn't drink coffee very often, but she ordered the hot Nola and said it was very good.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
I've heard much hype about this coffee chain, so my friend and I were excited to stop by during our DTLA adventure to fuel up with the caffeine here! It's almost unassuming outside, but kitschy inside and roomy enough to be a decent study spot in the heart of DTLA. The coffee offerings are not much but have enough variety to fill any caffeine need. I got a cappuccino, and my friend got an iced caffe latte. I can't speak for the caffe latte, but my cappuccino was smooth and bold. The foamy milk complemented the drink well. And, unlike the cappuccino from a well-known large coffee chain, it had no harsh burnt or bitter aftertaste to it. The hype is worth it, and this coffee shop is worth checking out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Kikyo L.

Yelp
I got a small matcha latte with oat milk. It was $6.50 before tax which is on the pricey side for a 12oz cup. It tasted good but not to the point I would pay $7 for it again. Wasn't super sweet either. The interior is nice and big, but there's no parking. I had to park in those public parking structure nearby and I paid $16 to park which is where more than the coffee itself. There's a nearby public parking structure for $10 all day parking which I missed though. Overall, the location is bad. I would just go to another location if you really want to try Blue Bottle.

Yelp
I used to recommend and love this place. The coffee is, in my opinion, simply the best. Every Saturday and Sunday morning at 7am I would stop in with my small dog, for a to-go cup Of coffee, walking home with something warm and delicious. New store policy (not there fault, it's a health inspection thing) you can't bring your dog inside. You can to order then you have to wait outside to have your coffee brought out to you. Under any other circumstance a lovely service. However this particular street corner is fraught with the morning of folks who have been sleeping on the street and I've been bothered there so many times I do not feel safe standing outside waiting. Sad to see this weekend tradition go. It was one of the last few great things about living in this neighborhood and across the street from Blue Bottle. Also want to add the folks behind the counter are wonderful. They are trying their best to address an unfortunate development.

Yelp
Now isn't it convenient that there's a Blue Bottle across Broadway from Grand Central Market (review: https://bit.ly/3IkDonc)? As it so happened, Jamie W. and I waited in an endless line to get our much anticipated strawberry donuts from The Donut Man (review: https://bit.ly/34RGxx3). We were overjoyed but had no place to sit to gorge on them, and even more importantly, we were so preoccupied with getting the donuts we forgot to get coffee. Imagine that. Good thing this store was here waiting for us on the corner of Broadway and West 3rd. It's on the outside of the legendary Bradbury Building where so many movies have been filmed in the vintage lobby (review: https://bit.ly/3CRlK9f). Towing our box of donuts, we ordered a couple of the $4.50 Bella Donovan Pour Overs (photo: https://bit.ly/3ikRnPf), which were as darkly smooth as we needed them to be and gratefully zero calories since the donuts put our calorie counter into the stratosphere. While there was room to sit here, we thought it wouldn't be very classy to be gluttons. Unfortunately Skid Row lurked outside, so off we went to Grand Park to have our coffee and donuts on the pink plastic furniture. COFFEE - 4 stars...ah yes, Blue Bottle AMBIANCE - 4 stars...downright calm compared to the market and part of the Bradbury SERVICE - 4 stars...as thoughtful as any other Blue Bottle TOTAL - 4 stars...not the coffee to dunk your donuts RELATED - Exploring LA? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2TWT63v

Yelp
This Blue Bottle is located right across from Grand Central Market so parking can be difficult to find. Thankfully we found a street spot about a block away. I ordered the iced latte and iced sweetened latte online and picked them up inside. I love Blue Bottle's clean/minimalist aesthetic and this DTLA location is like a little haven away from the chaos. It would be a great place to study or do work and of course enjoy delicious coffee/espresso. The sweetened latte is pretty light so if you like your drinks sweet, I'd recommend requesting extra brown sugar! I love their oatmilk and love that it's the default option. Drinks are a little pricey, but worth it for a quality latte every now and then.

Yelp
A sleek and spacious cafe in the beautiful Bradbury Building. The staff is knowledgable and so fast to prepare their incredible concoctions. They are consistently creating new delicious options. The offerings are precise and well crafted. Every visit is a treat.

Yelp
Some of the best coffee I have ever had. I've tried all the items on their list and my absolute favorite is all their Dark Roast Coffee and their matcha. If you happen to visit, try their matcha first and then maybe you can ease into the dark roasts. Their banana bread is also great and the staff is awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
My very first time at a blue bottle coffee store. I've only had it in stores that sold the carton and I have to say that having it fresh is so much better! I absolutely loved it and the service was superb.
google avatar

Alexis D.

Yelp
Great customer service, the kind gentleman (sorry didn't catch his name) offered to help me out as it was my first time. Even offered samples and that's how I discovered the best brewed coffee I've ever had. The "Nola" is a must try for all coffee lovers. Place is very homey and is great to come and study or just chill.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Located in the Bradbury Building, this Blue Bottle locations offers great customer service and excellent coffee. Coffee selections rotate daily, and this location is very busy. I usually order either a pour-over or espresso to go. The Hayes Valley is like black tar espresso. Staff will offer customers samples prior to purchasing. Prices are elevated but in this case you get what you pay for.

Yelp
$8 per cup, grande size. Nothing special. 3 star for ambiance and location across the street from gramd central market
google avatar

Yelp
Across the street from the central market and Blue Bottle Coffee is a great way to have a pick me up during the afternoon when you know you have a long night ahead of you. The menu is simple and they do allow you to sit inside here which I did to take a little rest from all the driving I had done. The server here was nice and the drinks are spectacular! You can never go wrong if you order anything from here. Glad they had a location where I was at!
google avatar

Duncan C.

Yelp
It's a blue bottle coffee. It's what you expect it to be if you've been to one before. If you're trying to work remote for a while I wouldn't recommend coming here. There's not an outlets anywhere to charge your laptop or phone. But if you just want to have a coffee, sit in the AC, and work for an hour or so then this is just fine.

Yelp
I was so happy to find a Blue Bottle just a couple blocks from my hotel during the LA Marathon! There is ample indoor seating at this location; also some creative indoor wall decor. Prompt, friendly service. I was delighted to be able to get my fix of their scrumptious black tea! 2021: 36/100

Yelp
We decided to try Blue Bottle Coffee today for the first time, and I honestly don't know if I'll come back [to this location]. We ordered a sweet (iced) latte, the nola iced coffee, the apple crumble danish and the almond croissant. The coffee was good, the ambiance was great, and the apple crumble danish was to die for. The almond croissant was good, but it wasn't my favorite. The issue I had was with the service. Maybe she was just having a bad day, or maybe she just treats everyone like that, but the blonde girl with short curly hair was impertinent from the moment we walked through the door. It was only two of us, and we weren't rude or loud. She didn't smile once, didn't welcome us in, and walked away from the register while we were still ordering because she just assumed I was done. When she walked away, I asked her if we could order food as well, and she just told me they were out of food. It wasn't until my partner asked her about the pastries specifically that she told us all they had was pastries. That's.... food. There was a kind barista with purple streaks in her hair that let us know someone would be right with us when we came in. (: Overall, I really liked the coffee shop and what they had to offer. However, the service the barista gave us today made the visit a little sour. Being a former barista, it was extra disappointing. I hope she can do better in the future.

Yelp
I've been a big fan of blue bottle coffee since my days in NYC so I was happy when I found out there is one near where I was staying in LA. I was so excited to have the waffle again, this time with strawberry cream! The cream and waffle went so well together and the latte was great too. I also appreciated the big open cafe space where I was able to chill out for a bit with my favorite food.
google avatar

Tess N.

Yelp
It was okay, prefer locations in NorCal by far. One drink tasted more like oat milk than coffee, and the vibe for the service was weird, but ambiance was good. Nice, big, location however, and very clean.

Anna A.

Yelp
They open early, make delicious coffee, have abundance of sweets and great space to work. Service is great too! Very personable young men. Parking is difficult ... but that's a given.

Yelp
Blue Bottle will always be a five star to me as long as they get it right. On my last morning in LA, we decided to stop by the Blue Bottle in DTLA and grab my usual sweet latte. This location was a pretty big one and it was really spacious so it seems like a great place to chat with coffee! Unfortunately -- we were picking up and going so we didn't have time to sit. Sweet latte was amazing per usual. Get it with the oatmilk because who drinks cow milk in 2022? Jk -- no hate for that but Blue Bottle will always be superior! Simple, minimalistic and absolutely delicious.
