Where to Eat and Drink in and Around Penn Station

"Blue Bottle is a San Francisco chain that takes its coffee a little too seriously, if you ask us, but then the coffee is better than nearly anything else in town, mellow yet assertive, and expertly prepared. This counter is on the edge of the main floor of the Moynihan Train Hall under the towering ceiling and big clock, whatever the map herewith seems to indicate. Espresso beverages preferred, or try the New Orleans-style cold brew with plenty of ice and the milk and sugar already added." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff

The outdoor seating area is definitely a big plus (not sure how it is in winter but anyway) as well as the direct entrance to Penn station that allows you to avoid the forever Midtown chaos. A few tables inside and free tap water. I had an excellent iced coffee. The guys behind the counter are chill and very nice.

One of the best coffee spots across the US. A daily thing. My favorite is the cold brew.

It’s my fav coffee shop and I come here every morning even though it’s 4 blocks away from the school cause I love the taste and quality of the coffee. Coffee here is twice more expensive than in Pret A Manger, which is closer. But I still come here cause I enjoy the taste. Last three times I came here, they got my order wrong. There were 3 employees serving the guests, and only 4-5 guests. I always order a latte with oat milk. They gave me with whole milk. I don’t drink the coffee until I get to school and eat my breakfast. So don’t want to spend more time coming back and asking for another one. Because of this situation, I had a stomachache for 2 days straight (I’m lactose intolerant). Please be more attentive to your guests. I will no longer leave any tips, cause I don’t respect these kind of major mistakes. Please train your employees how to work with customers.

Fast and friendly service plus great coffee! The place was very spacious and offered both indoor and outdoor seating.

Happy to have enjoyed a mocha here. A new location in the Penn building that is well-lit with air conditioning and nice ambience/background music. Bathroom is inside the building on the second floor to the right of the lounge area. Right now there is some construction obstructing the street view but keep going until you see the entrance. There’s at least one outlet, wifi and some seating, which is big considering many coffee shops in NY are so small they don’t have that. Friendly baristas. Stop by and enjoy a nice drink :)

While I was sad to learn of the seasonal menu- ‘cause I was jonesing for their Cardamon flavored coffee- the staff happily helped me to find an alternative.

Love, love, love their coffee.. Hands down this is the best coffee in New York. I drink coffee like water lol so I'm very picky when it comes to my coffee but they definitely nailed it.

Yelp
I first had Blue Bottle coffee in San Francisco. I was so happy when they opened. NYC locations. I have coffee here often, the staff is great, the quality is great. Iced or hot their simple menu has delicious choices.

Yelp
Think this is a chain coffee spot. Average spot to grab coffee or latte. On the pricier side and not as much variety on the menu compared to old reliable Starbucks. Unfortunately not much seating available in this location so seems more of a takeout spot.

Yelp
I love blue bottle - this location was great. Penn 1 is a nice office/work building and I see the benefit of having a fancy coffee shop right in the middle. There was bar seating inside and the service was great! Not too busy at 1pm on a Monday. Blue bottle is expensive but worth it. I always get the Nola with oat milk and today i grabbed a packet of instant coffee ($4 for one packet of instant coffee...) but excited to try!

Yelp
Edit: the owner/manager reached out to me shortly after I posted my Yelp review and issued a refund. Also mentioned the feedback would be looked into. I wouldn't get a matcha here again, their coffees are good but wouldn't trust the matcha. Appreciated the customer service though. ------ Oops should've read the reviews first. Got a matcha latte and it just tasted like diluted iced milk. Don't get the matcha lattes here. Go to Cha Cha Matcha instead.

Yelp
New sleek Blue Bottle in a redone office building. I've waited awhile for this opening. It comes with the building renovation and the area being called The Penn District. The space has a good cute wooden seating area and all the usual suspects. I had a croissant and it was a good one. Can't wait for a future Flat White.

Yelp
Certainly there are plenty of places to get expensive mediocre lattes and coffee with made yesterday baked goods. But none have crafted that art as well as this outhouse of BBC. If you haven't been paying attention, BBC is now owned by the multi-talented gang at Nestles who also own Alpo dog food among other non-human holdings. Starbugs, who Nestle partners with, is just around the corner if one wants another choice for expensive coffee "drinks". At least when Starbugs turns out a latte it's hot. This BBC turned out barely warm latte to accompany the overpriced too sweet ~3/4" x 2" brown butter blondie. Find a cup from a trashcan and scoop the brown water from the 9th ave gutter and save yourself $6. It's hard to believe that a company with the name "recognition" of BBC would turn out such drotz product. As a NYer, I'm embarrassed that such a shoddy operation exists in a major crossroads of the world. There are other coffee shops in the immediate area to try. Skip this and try one of them. Or pour some water through your dirty sweaty socks in a cup. The staff, however, are very pleasant.

Yelp
Good location with updated interior, the usual Blue Bottle coffee, excellent service!

Yelp
Bad service. I wanted a lemon bar and there were 2 left but they were stuck together. I joked and said guess i'm getting 2! and the cashier tried to charge me for the 2nd one. She said it would have been free had i left a tip.

Yelp
feeling deeply hurt. i ordered a latte and they called my drink and i grabbed the only cup at the end of the table, as one would. it had a lid on it so i didn't notice anything strange about it at first. i had one sip and realized it was really concentrated and only half full so i asked for some milk. the barista then looked at me rudely and told me i drank her concentrate. why was it on the side edge where drinks are normally being picked up and how was i supposed to know that. even worse, she then loudly explained the whole situation in a deeply judgemental tone to her coworker and they both had a boisterous chuckle about it while i was sat 5 feet away at a table sipping my mediocre latte. i was feeling hurt and betrayed and afraid and alone and sad. never coming here again! shoutout sarah. youre now the reason i have trust issues
