Google
This Piedmont location of Blue Bottle is fantastic! You can’t go wrong with Blue Bottle coffee, the quality has consistently remained high and every cafe has such a warm organic aesthetic to it. This branch is no different! My cold brew was delicious and made a team of friendly baristas. Inside the cafe has lots of natural light at this location and a fair amount of seating. I was blessed to grab a private booth but there is also an amazing shared table near the front that faces the street. The location is great as it’s near other major shops and plenty of parking options if you drive here. Vibes are great, music was chill, and my only complaint would be the WiFi was slow.

Google
$6 for a drip coffee, overpriced for sure , tasted ok. Service is bad , no place to sit. No utensil , out of sugar. Not sure why people come here and spending all the money here! Never again and I come to Piedmont Ave often.

Google
Nice staff and food, good ambience and location. The major problem is they have no outlets to plug in, a major problem for a cafe where people want to hang out. Like zero. A major backwards design and outlier for any cafe in the Bay Area. They need to install like 6 outlets for the main table and one for each of the nooks. Disappointed that the manager hasn’t been on top of this and doubt I’ll come here much (Peets nearby is much better). The WiFi is pretty bad and disconnected a lot too. I’m now wishing I went to Peets or Starbucks (sad to see Blue Bottle lose prior high standards).

Google
I absolutely adore this place and all the staff who work here. The space is so nice and clean in true Blue Bottle style. But being on Piedmont Avenue makes it the perfect spot for a quiet morning read or chat with a friend. The staff are so caring about the quality of every drink that comes off the bar and making sure customers are happy. I love hearing the baristas chat behind the bar about what flavor notes are standing out with each coffee today and seeing them be proud of and passionate about their craft. Since I usually sit down inside and have plenty of time, they frequently ask me “Do you mind waiting a little bit? I just really want to get this coffee dialed in perfectly for you and it’s not quite there”. Whenever there’s a new coffee on rotation they assure me that if I don’t love it they’ll make me another one. Finally I should be clear that the coffee is also absolutely superb, every single time. I think Blue Bottle does a great job at training staff in general so I just wanted to really highlight what makes this particular location special ☺️🌟

Google
Fantastic coffee. The mocha is rich and flavorful without tasting like a pump syrup. There a strong but pleasant coffee flavor. Iced black cardamom latte was one of the best I’ve had. Same pleasant coffee flavor. They use large ice cubes which keep it cold and don’t get in the way as you drink.

Google
Please offer more gluten free and sugar free options. Increase the amount of grams on your shots. Coffee has gotten weaker and more expensive. $1 for almond milk has always felt like an over charge. I miss the perfect coffee of the original founder. This brand has slipped. Update 11/1/24–disorganized crew. Chaotic. Store looks dirty. No one is managing the shop—just 4 slow moving, disinterested,non-passionate people who don’t seem to care about coffee. I waited 25 minutes for 2 lattes to go…one was made incorrectly, and I had to wait another 7 minutes for the remake. Coffee is weak, nothing like the original Blue Bottle by James. Not worth $7.50 for an almond milk latte. They no longer make their own almond milk. Much better 3rd wave shops with excellent coffee in Berkeley.

Google
Came here and ordered the hojicha latte with oat milk per a friend's recommendation. We waited for a while before the barista asked us if we were waiting for our drinks. We said yes so he checked and it seemed like they didn't receive our order. He made our drinks right away and gave us 2 free drink coupons which was really nice of him. The hojicha latte was a bit grainy, pretty bland, & just didn't have the right taste. My stomach started to feel weird as I was drinking it. My husband took 1 sip and also felt the same. I'm sticking to coffee moving forward.

Google
A neighborhood Blue Bottle with communal table and individual stations. Great for work, though there are no outlets. Good if the limited battery time adds pressure to get the work done. Another location with beautiful floral display. Very friendly staff

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
Great blue bottle location except there's not much parking in this area . I got the caffe latte and the sweet latte . They were pretty busy even though it was a rainy day and the drinks took about 10 min to come out . My caffe latte was great !!! Blue bottle was the place that got me hooked onto oat milk and the oat milk coffee latte was delicious .

Daly D.

Yelp
I go to Blue Bottle for a pour over because they have the best pour over in the bay area hands down. I wish they were closer to me because I would be there everyday. I always go and grab one before I go to the movies. I would give this shop 5 stars but for me the staff is very aloof, unfriendly and slow. They chat too much behind the counter when there are a lot of customers waiting. The coffee is top notch, truly one of the best flavors I have experienced.

Jessica W.

Yelp
Very pleasant experience here. This is the location in the Oakland Hills, the nicer part. Drinks are fantastic as always no matter what location I go to. I finally saw their instant espresso here and had to snag a bottle to try since I've been told what quality it is. I was hesitant to stop by one in Oakland before the game but glad we did.

Jem T.

Yelp
Quick and friendly service. Dropped by to purchase their instant coffee as a white elephant gift and decided to try the winter blend pour over. It's perfect for this drizzly day and the pour over was made to perfection. This was my first time here and it was a laidback environment with ample seating including a round community table

Emmi D.

Yelp
Good coffee. Expensive coffee. $8 for the NOLA now. Also zero outlets so you can't work here. Lots of seating but the acoustics are bad so it's very loud. There is a bathroom and free wifi.

Justin V.

Yelp
"Tokyo Kissa" As I blow into my drink to take my first sip. The coffee is blown by my lips. Bubbles separating like the red sea and me as Musa ( Moses). Like a hint of jazzy color and redneck country I had come to find Harmony in the Rich flavor that not everyone will savor. Smoky like volcanic ash. I had been thinking of the liege wafel and charcoal coffee ALL DAY!!! Good Lord God Almighty!!! This coffee got me in high spirits. I was aching in pain. And complaining about being sore. But life redeemed me with this delicious cup of heaven. The service was fast. And the Ambee-ounze was like Bowen Yang Kissing Ariana Grande galore!! Such is ambiance it was good. No it was great. No it was perfect!

Jason G.

Yelp
Good coffee but I wish they would ask you if you want your Nola hot or cold like they do at other BBC's. That's a lot of money for a coffee drink to not be asked how you'd like it prepared.

Leana A.

Yelp
As a coffee lover, I must say this is my absolute favorite. This specialty cafe is exceptional. Always order the Nola brews. They also serve breakfast pastries. Equally enjoyable. Can't say enough about this high quality coffee.

Angelica L.

Yelp
$4 for an espresso that barely covers the bottom of the cup. WiFi useless. You guys used to be great. Now you're Starbucks.

Tammie S.

Yelp
Went to buy a quick espresso while walking Piedmont ave. There was only 1 person in line in front of us and the cafe was about 20% full. I ordered a Gibraltar which was delicious. Blue bottle has an excellent quality of coffee. 2 stars for this alone. Minus 3 stars for a 20 min wait from the time I ordered my coffee to when it was ready. I attributed this to the chatty person/guest talking both of the working baristas ear off the entire time. While waiting a queue of 6 ppl came behind and waiting just as long or longer. Can't say I'll be back to this location as there are many other coffee options on Piedmont.

Kelly S.

Yelp
I needed a place to work for a couple hours and was this was a great spot. The location is very clean and staff is friendly. There are small seating spaces which are great for 1-2 people or setting up your laptop. There's also a large round table for groups or shared area. My cappuccino was made perfectly!

Ed U.

Yelp
What can I say about Blue Bottle that I haven't said already in all my other reviews of Blue Bottle? Well, I still think their coffee is still rich and smooth, but somehow it has lost some of its indie mojo when Nestle acquired them five years ago. With that said, I still have a special place in my memory bank for their Piedmont Avenue location. I noticed their struggles with the pandemic more than the other locations, and I respect how they continue to persevere. So much so that I recently went for the more expensive $5.50 Ethiopia pour over (photo: https://bit.ly/3b6xHOM). It hit the spot. COFFEE - 4 stars...still dependable for a satisfying brew AMBIANCE - 4 stars...they had to close the seating for quite a while but I prefer takeout anyway SERVICE - 4 stars...polite and disciplined TOTAL - 4 stars...Blue Bottle is like the Energizer Bunny, keeps going on and on RELATED - Exploring Piedmont Avenue? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2I0RAHj

Yelp
They're always spot on with the coffee. I usually try their seasonal blends. The staff is friendly and even remembered who we were since we visited there almost every day. I like the large round table. Great place to sit with your friends or workmates to chitchat.

Barbara E.

Yelp
The most delicious coffee I've ever had. Was hard not to re-order more and more shots. Beautiful sunny charming location.

Jason J.

Yelp
Espresso drinks are good but can't say it was too nice a place to sit and enjoy my $7 cappuccino - dishwasher threw the dish rack inches from my drink (and me) at the bar without saying anything. Kind of got an angry vibe from him? Strange cartoon music coming over the speakers. I dunno man

john s.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and customer service in a very nice environment . But is blue bottle worth the "premium" pricing? There's a bunch of places on piedmont ave that provide a competitive product with prices that are substantially lower.

John D.

Yelp
Best coffee drinks in the US hands down. And I have been to them in SF, Oakland, San Mateo, Santa Monica, Brooklyn, Manhattan and all have excellent cappuccino, Gibraltar, espresso, consistent across the US. I don't know who teaches their baristas, but fantastic across the US. Out of any chain they perform the best at hiring only great employees, teaching them exactly perfectly, and keeping them consistent. Compare that to Peets that has gone completely downhill, worst coffee drinks, no one knows how to make an espresso drink, constantly changing employees, and a once packed San Ramon Peets is now empty and needs to close. Horrible, worse than Starbucks now, and that is pretty bad for how much you pay. I bet Blue Bottle pays its employees appreciably more than Peets.

jenny l.

Yelp
Coffee is good but pricey. Avocado toast also good but pricey. Low score is for wifi. Today I came and paid for coffee and food and was planning to do some work but the wifi is so slow that I cannot even load webpages. It would also be better if there were outlets to charge devices. But my rating doesn't account for that only the poor wifi and overall cost.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Wow where do I start, this place has some of the rudest baristas in the business. They automatically give you Oat milk then have the audacity to get annoyed if you don't realize or remember that til after they give it to you. The lady then says I can have it because she cant take it back, yeah no thanks. All coffee shops ask 1st, que the entitlement. This place is exactly part of what's wrong with Oakland, New Oakland coming here thinking their S doesn't stink. Secondly so overpriced it's insane $6.25 for an iced latte, $5.50 for a not so great crossaint. Nothing but snotty people to start your morning off. The tip screen even has a 35% suggestion, I'm all too happy not to leave a dime. Spend your hard earned money at a small business with no snobs. This corner was best when the Italian deli occupied it, as if Piedmont Ave needs another coffee shop.

L C.

Yelp
Ok so I still love BB and all, but is this location serious with their tipping suggestions of 35%? I've never seen tipping suggestions so high anywhere before. I almost didn't believe my eyes. I'm all for tipping well, but asking for 35% is really presumptuous and exorbitant IMO. It made me realize too that the staff here isn't particularly super passionate about coffee like they are at the OG Hayes Valley location. They meet the bare minimum for their jobs by making your coffee order correctly and not metaphorically spitting in your face. The last cashier, a blonde lady, greeted me with a blank stare, a half mumbled hi, and not even a "what can I get started for you?" Why would this level of service warrant above a 20% tip? :/

Helen T.

Yelp
Blue Bottle coffee is always a special treat for me. The individual pour-over coffee is well worth the wait. This is my first time at this Oakland Piedmont Ave location. The space is bright and clean. There are 4 2-person booths and a large round communal table in the front. I ordered a cup of winter blend to start the holiday season.

David N.

Yelp
Blue Bottle is always a treat for me. Individually prepared pour over coffee is delicious. I'm too impatient at home to make one cup. Early for an appointment, I found this store and with parking on front to boot. I saw there was a mobile app and downloaded it quickly. Signup was easy and with Apple Pay, no fumbling to enter my cc. Ordered and ready in about 5 minutes!

Ari P.

Yelp
Blue bottle took some hard hits during the pandemic. Many of their staff moved out of state or on to other companies. With all that said - they haven't missed a beat. New staff, and old staff that hanged on, are still making great coffee. Lots of more food offered these days, which is a plus. All of its tasty, but definitely not a meal. It's coffee shop food. Ambiance is nice if you can find a seat. Otherwise there's plenty of sunshine and chairs waiting for you outside.

Shaamini B.

Yelp
I ordered a latte and only foamed milk without even coffee taste. The whole point of ordering $6.25 for a latte is the expensive high end coffee made by a barrista. I will not tip for $6 drink. Expecially because staff is unfriendly seeming upset that they are in the service industry.

Min C.

Yelp
I don't think there's much to say about their espressos - almost always I get a rich, velvety top which I love sipping on immediately the cup comes into my hand. This is why I still opt for hot espressos even during summer days, then cool it with my own ice cubes. I recently had their limited/ seasonal Muscovado Sugar Latte and the subtle sweetness is so pleasant! Highly recommend if you want to divert from their classic menu, which of course they also excel at. However, since the pandemic I noticed that the painter's-taped floor would need some updating. It clearly unclear to all those that come after me because they simply swoop to the front (aka "cut the line.") At first I was secretly venting at the individuals but now I think this could be better handled by the store.

LaNea M.

Yelp
Okay okay it's owned by Nestle. We know that. If you don't like it don't drink it. Go to the mom and pop shops your on here ranting and raving about. Nobody is finna boycott this place just cause it's blowing up now. Chill out. THE COFFEE IS ON POINT. I can finally say I have a favorite coffee drink (aside from black with a bit of cream and sugar). The New Orleans iced coffee and the cardamom latte are exactly what I've been missing in my life. I'm broke but I find blue bottle in the budget ERRY DAY. There's a lady there, might be the manager as she gives me managerial vibes, and she is hella nice and always greets me with a smile. The pastries are delicious. Everyone is always chill like they just hit the pen and clocked into work real quick. Yeah it's a bit beige and bland, and they don't have outlets, but I come for the coffee not for interior design. KEEP. IT. UP.

Katy M.

Yelp
I just had a delightful experience at this shop on Piedmont Ave. The lady who greeted me was so friendly with the most gorgeous, warm smile. She engaged my baby and was so nice. The barista max an immaculate flat white. A $6 coffee well deserved!!

Tu-Anh N.

Yelp
WHEN: Sunday @11am I swear every Blue Bottle I've been inside of has been so nice on the inside, but every location feel unique while still keeping to their brand. The seatings are available as follow: - 2 seaters along the wall - 1 huge round communal table Lighting is perfect as the windows are huge. Here's what I had: DRIP COFFEE - $4 I'm no coffee expert, but I need my caffeine. I didn't see it on the menu, but when I asked for Oat Milk, my kind barista just handed me the carton for me to add however much I liked. My cup of coffee was a nice one. LIEGE WAFEL - $4.5 Warm, crispy on the thin outer layer like its been brulee-ed. There's a slight sticky texture, which is a chewiness I really enjoyed. Yes, I really liked this waffle! CARAMEL COOKIE - $3 This semi-gooey cookie had small pieces of caramel in it. It was sweet and tasty! I ate it too fast and realized it would have gone well with my coffee. While I felt the decorum, food, and service was stellar, the thing I wish I came prepared for were: - There is no Wi-Fi - There are no outlets All in all I liked it here and I will most likely come back--but more prepared.

Scott H.

Yelp
Very tasty coffee and the chocolate pumpkin love cake is amazing. But the quantities are tiny and the price is enormous.

Michelle K.

Yelp
Lovely new Blue Bottle location on Piedmont. Per the usual Blue Bottle standards, it's clean, modern, minimal. I like the booths in the back (more like 1-2 person booths)and there's a big round table in the front as well as stools in the back where the coffee is made. One observation is that the layout was not super well thought-out because if the line ever gets too long, it might be awkward to wind around the big table in the front (unless they end up swapping that table out). Overall, love Blue Bottle, but a little worried they'll detract from local business (I'm most concerned about Timeless). Street parking, but if you need groceries, I recommend you park in the Piedmont grocery lot, support the local business by buying your goods there and grab a coffee afterward!

Theresa P.

Yelp
This was my first time to this coffee house. I got a small vanilla latte, or their version. And I asked for 1 less shot of syrup. So, I don't know why their latte is different, but it was by far better than anything I tasted, anywhere. Mind you, it was $7.75, but I would gladly pay this any day any time, if it is always going to be that good. I do frequent the other popular coffee places, but again, this was far better!!! The ambience is different than what I'm used to - not too inviting. And there was one very large table in the center that a lot of people sat around. There was also a few private tables. But all in all, a very nice place!! And the cashier was very friendly!!

James M.

Yelp
Blue Bottle landed on Piedmont Ave adding another coffee choice. Variety is good right? I honestly couldn't rank the coffee places on Piedmont outside of Starbucks. The variety of choices each give a unique coffee experience from drinks to ambience and even seats. For Blue Bottle you get the design conscious, clean and minimal layout. The coffee is Blue Bottle so no complaints there, they have a small assortment of pastries, staff is friendly. I guess my only complaint is the seats are a bit on the hard side being wood but that's a personal preference I suppose as I'm more of a plush cushiony type guy. Pros: Tasty coffee, modernistic/minimalist design Cons: Hard seats Bottom line: Another place to choose from for your Piedmont Ave coffee fix

ali k.

Yelp
Good coffee, but the barista was unfriendly, I felt disappointed! It could make a better experience for customers if the staff were welcoming.

Anna N.

Yelp
Nice, new location for Blue Bottle Coffee. Street parking on Piedmont. Inside, there's a big round table that is for everyone. In the back, there are a few booths/tables. They're New Orleans style coffee is delicious. I do love their lattes, and it's a bonus that they now serve oat milk! Their coffee is strong - you have been warned. Highly recommend this place over Starbucks or Peets!

Madenh H.

Yelp
I want to thank the barista that made me and my friends 3 Nola coffees 2 min after they closed. They had already locked up and this young man went out of his way and made our night! New favorite spot.

Morgan P.

Yelp
I mobile ordered from this location on a sleepy Sunday morning. I was a patron of the Berkeley location previously, but realized today that this location is actually closer to my work and has more convenient parking. It's also right around the corner from another location, in case you need a back up option! The staff was quick and courteous, and this area of town is super cute. My coffee order was accurate and delicious and I am super excited to continue coming back to this location!

Alicia C.

Yelp
Blue Bottle never disappoints. We love coming to Oakland because they have them everywhere! This trip was a quick order outside and within minutes our drinks were ready. Friendly, safe, and quick interaction. Couldn't appreciate it more! Our faves: Cascarra Fizz New Orleans Coffee

Damon L.

Yelp
When you think of coffee in Oakland, the first thing that comes to mind is Blue Bottle. I really enjoyed it the few times I tried it at the Webster and New York locations. We decided to give it another try as pre-bike ride fuel (Yes, pretty much the reverse of a proper coffee shop ride!) We got there around 10:30am and found parking right in front of the store. Not in the mood for drip coffee and in need for some quick carbs, our barista Miki recommended the lattes (whole milk for me, oat milk for the gf) and a liege waffle. Everything came out within five minutes. The lattes were both super smooth and well-balanced! Not too watery, not too creamy. The waffle was a delicious surprise - hot and just slightly sweetened and wrapped in two paper coffee filters (lol!) Next time I'm back, I'd probably try the New Orleans iced coffee or the matcha latte.

Hasmik G.

Yelp
I've never felt so unwelcome going to a coffee shop than at this place and it's very rare for me to leave a negative review. I'd put one star but doing 2 just to not be an asshole.

Brian B.

Yelp
Update: They have WiFi now so this is a six star establishment. The world's best espresso drinks, great service, tasty small baked goods but now with WiFi.

Gavri L.

Yelp
Two stars for the energetic polite workers. Sadly the rest is pretty mediocre. You can't get a basic coffee for under 5$ even. The cold brew isn't very good. They have an add your own sugar and cream bar as standard pre-Covid, but don't have sticks to stir your coffee. Instead, they only have clean metal spoons, directly next to the dirty spoons, with just a small label. This is asking for disaster. What if I don't see the labels and use a dirty spoon? What if someone accidentally puts their dirty spoon in the clean spoon bucket and contaminates them all? Essentially I got some stale tasting cold brew poured over some ice for 6.5$.

Milana T.

Yelp
The best blue bottle I've visited. Actually has comfortable seating (wow, no stools!). Large, round communal table and a few built-in table/bench with backs units. Went there on a Saturday late afternoon and still found seating pretty quickly. Great for getting some work done on a laptop or catching up with friends. Felt comfortable working at the large, communal table too and even struck up a convo with a stranger about how tasty the Gibraltar was. Wait for the coffee was around 10 min, very reasonable considering there were about 4 parties ahead of me. Seriously some of the best coffee I've had in months. Very cozy, peaceful atmosphere. Staff were kind and welcomed questions.

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
New employee at Kaiser and I have been looking for amazing coffee in the area that I can walk to from work. This blue bottle location is amazing it is super clean and bright. The employees are extremely friendly and nice, fast service and all wearing masks. There is a plexiglass glass window for extra protection for infection precautions. They use biodegradable cups and lids which I love. I ordered a medium iced latte which was delicious. The flavors are smooth and gentle, far from bitter and the coffee is strong enough that you don't need to drink a bunch for a perfect mid day pick me up

Jen J.

Yelp
OMG best avocado toast ever! With a little lemon juice, salt and pepper "stuff" on top...amazing! And my iced latte was very good, too, but...the toast!!

Sara S.

Yelp
thank you blue bottle baristas for wonderful coffee and how friendly you are even at 630am :,) my latte was beautiful and delicious and my visit let me start my shift happy and awake.

Victor G.

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee poured into A.G. Ferrari's diluted space. (corporate downsizing). space ooks smaller than before. decor pure white ala Apple. some seating available within. limited menu. drippings: expresso, house drips, eats, coffee beans, etc. brew: "house blend": white tea, gooseberry, dried mango -nice smooth taste ala light roast spiced coffee spicing too subtle to notice upon random sipping. pour over: -Nestle owns majority stake in Blue Bottle, no longer a local company -coffee better than other chains, pricier than indy coffee shops -street parking only -measured courteous service. -decor snow white (all year long?)

shirleen a.

Yelp
Had the cold brew... pretty full flavored even on ice. Could taste the bold flavors of the coffee.... Good blend of nuttiness, bitterness and coffee aroma.

Frances Y.

Yelp
First time getting blue bottle in my four years in Berkeley. This location has very nice seating and is great for work. I got the hojicha latte and it was very nice. They gave us free croissants too because they had too many. It's a nice pit stop while shopping on Piedmont with friends!
