Tocaya Organica Does Healthy Mexican at Crowded Beverly Center Today | Eater LA

"A spare, minimalist coffee shop has opened in Pasadena with limited hours for its community opening day, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday; complimentary coffee was offered during the event." - Farley Elliott

Blue Bottle Coffee Aims For Prime Old Pasadena Takeover Next | Eater LA

"I've noticed Third Wave coffee outlet Blue Bottle has pushed hard into Southern California, with more than a dozen locations either open or planned across neighborhoods from Playa Vista to Los Feliz; next up is a prime new Pasadena location coming soon to 18 S. Fair Oaks Avenue, which, for those in the know, is the former home of a now-shuttered Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf." - Farley Elliott

I recently visited a coffee shop in Pasadena and had a wonderful experience. The place was clean and tidy, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The coffee was absolutely delicious, with rich flavors that stood out. The staff were nice and friendly, adding to the overall positive vibe of the shop. Their warm and welcoming demeanor made the visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this coffee shop to anyone in the Pasadena area looking for great coffee and excellent service. I'll definitely be coming back!

Google
Rafi and his team are phenomenal!!!! Not to mention the best coffee I’ve ever had, led alone from any blue bottle location, but the service is AMAZING! They are so sweet, so kind, so attentive and caring it’s absolutely comforting and fun coming there every morning. They go beyond the normal customer service to ensure their customers leave with a smile a great experience. Best location and best staff with the best example of the perfect customer service ❤️ Much appreciated Amber & Jake

Google
Service prioritizes online orders over counter customers. They will spend 10 or 15 minutes making to-go orders over people standing in the cafe. I could see mixing it up but this is maddening! Worse, the drinks are made just mediocre, definitely not the same quality as experienced at their other locations. Food is basically pastries but obviously pre-made processed-looking fare. It’s a relatively big shop but there’s no capacity to make hot food items of any substance nor to even heat pastries. Parking is profoundly difficult most of the day. This is a least liked BB.

Google
Blue Bottle in Pasadena is a great spot for coffee lovers looking for a quality cup of caffeinated goodness. The sleek and modern interior creates a pleasant ambiance, while the friendly and knowledgeable staff ensure a delightful customer experience. The coffee is expertly crafted, with a range of brewing methods available to suit all tastes. Had the espresso for the first time at my last stop here and it was just what I needed for an afternoon fix. The rest of their coffee options are good too, which I've had at other locations. Overall, Blue Bottle in Pasadena is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts in the area.

Erick L.

Google
The coffee is perfect. The pastries are a scam. How can you charge $6 for an old stale croissant?? I expected better quality from Blue Bottle

Google
Lots of hype on this blue bottle coffee and finally got to try it today. First of all, the place in Pasadena location is very small inside but it has a nice outside patio place (if weather permit of course). Customer service is good and friendly. Ordered the cappuccino, it tasted fine to me but a bit too bitter for others (family member). The main point is that I couldn't feel any special taste/smell/,etc vs other coffee.

Google
Highly Recommend Newly opened cafe/coffee roaster in Old Town Pasadena with a near cult-like following. They have a way of bringing out notes in coffee that I’ve never tasted before. It is very good!! I had a Bella Donovan pour over with notes of raspberry and dark chocolate. SO GOOD!! I believe they have a rotating menu on roasts each day so there’s always the opportunity to try something new. They have plenty of seating outside which is great. Patio seating is sometimes hard to come by in Old Town.

Adam Bou H.

Google
The outside seating area is cute. I liked their winter dream coffee. There was a line and it was crowded on the inside but that’s expected on a Sunday I guess.

Yelp
I love their chocolate croissants, latte and mocha latte. Their apple danish and guava danishes are also super yummy. Waffles are equally yummy but on the sweeter side. Their lattes are stronger in flavor compared to Copa Vida, intelligentsia, and Jameson brown coffee roasters. No sugar necessary :) This is my go to after my morning swims at the Rosebowl, I highly recommend!!

Yelp
Do I recommend Blue bottle coffee in Pasadena? It's a difficult question to answer simply. I guess the closest I can muster is... Maybe? So here's the thing, I don't like coffee. Cold brew is okay, but it's still not my favorite. So if you're a coffee aficionado you might really love this place. I don't know. So why am I giving this a three-star review? Well, first of all it's expensive. There I said it. Coffee should not be this expensive. I understand that it is everywhere, but it shouldn't be. There's also no parking. You have to park on the street, some of its metered, some of it's not, it's Pasadena, it's confusing. There's also very limited seating here. There's a nice outdoor area. But if that's full, you're basically out of luck. Blue bottle has a very limited menu, they do have some food items, but this is definitely a coffee first, cold brew specific, coffee shop. So again, is this the place for me? No. Might it be the place for you? Maybe.

Natalia O.

Yelp
This is the only coffee shop (outside of Starbucks that opens at 6am on weekdays... kudos bluebottle!!! +++ stars for that Coffee is good, unfortunately they don't have SF vanilla (or any SF syrups)
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
I enjoy the simplicity of this location - both in terms of its interior and menu. There's nothing too fancy here that feels inaccessible, the coffee is solid and interesting enough to keep you coming back. I've tried several items here and so far everything I've enjoyed. Service is helpful and patient, and on our first visit they suggested their popular drinks for us to give a try. Great location, too, in the heart of Old Town Pasadena.

Yelp
Blue bottle is such a good go to coffee. It has a strong caffeine boost. I got the Nola Shakerato and it was sooo good. I also scored on 2 of the too good to go pastry bags. It was such a good deal. Their cookies are to die for.
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
Came on a Monday morning and it wasn't too crowded. I got the iced latte and a bag of beans to try at home. Service was quick and I think there are very cute sitting nooks to enjoy your coffee. I felt like my iced latte was solid and I felt nicely wired for the day.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried out Blue Bottle Coffee because of Too Good To Go. Got a variety of pastries and they were delicious. Tried the: Croissant 8/10 Guava Pastry 9/10 Sorry I forgot the other 2 but I'd go back again for them (:
google avatar

Yelp
I drank lots of coffee from all over USA and while I travel the world. If I have to rate Blue bottle coffee based on the taste from 1 to 5 and 5 being the best. I will rate it at 4. As for the price I will rated at 3. Good try it yourself... remember this is only my opinion based on my taste buds... Happy coffee foodie
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
I think coffee is like steak...you don't need to add anything, the quality and cooking should speak for itself. My order - black iced americano. It's a 10/10.
google avatar

Edgar D.

Yelp
New Orleans style coffee? Ok I'll try some. Not too sweet not to strong. It was a decent cup of coffee. Great for a stroll around Pasadena on a hot midday. There wasn't anything particularly special about it. Other than a blue logo. Didn't try any pastry's. Maybe next time. Service was quick. The shop is small mostly designed for take out.
google avatar

Natalia J.

Yelp
iced americano goes hard after a run at the rose bowl stadium. the lot nearby lets you park for 2 hours for $1 (no validation though in this area). iced americano is super light not too acidic and just really refreshing. hot tip: iced americano 12oz and 16oz have the same amount of espresso... do with that what you will when weighing those price points. not a huge fan of the chocolate chip cookie here (not chewy enough, they use weird chocolate) but the BANANA BREAD makes me go bananas

Yelp
This blue bottle location has super kind baristas who make a great latte. Have consistently been impressed with their quality compared to other shops in the area. Some delicious pastries as well- loved the almond croissant and the blondie! Given their location right off the main strip, you will likely need to park and walk a bit to get to the store. They have 2-3 spots in front of the store, but those are almost always taken.
google avatar

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is clean, inviting, and beautifully simple, making it a perfect spot to relax or get some work done. The customer service here is exceptional--truly a standout feature. My order tracker was not only efficient but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations based on my preferences. The service is impressively fast; both the order and drink delivery were seamless and timely. I tried the Matcha and the NOLA drink, and both were outstanding. The Matcha was smooth and earthy, while the Nola shakerato drink was perfectly balanced with its signature sweet and creamy flavors. This place has definitely won me over, I can't wait to come back for more!

Justin K.

Yelp
Guest experience manager from Blue Bottle Coffee immediately reached out to me and addressed my concerns and offered apologies for my incident. The way Blue Bottle Coffee responded after the incident is definitely a 5 star. They are actively investigating the issue to prevent any future incidents with this lid debris problem. Thank you Nick, from Blue Bottle Coffee
google avatar

Renee D.

Yelp
Known for their drinks, but not to be missed are the pastries! The #1 stand out is the scone! It was light and airy, crispy and delicious. The croissant was good too, but if you had to pick only one, it doesn't look like much, but the deliciousness abounds!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
I was in the area and came across this coffee spot which was great because I was in need for a nice afternoon pick me up. There options where interesting. I usually go with a vanilla latte but they did not have that option. Instead they offered a substitute flavor which was as delicious. Service was friendly given how hectic it was inside.
google avatar

Dee J.

Yelp
Very good coffee, very good service. I can tell, they "know" coffee. I don't have any complaints whatsoever. The brew is balanced and well achieved. I really enjoyed it.
google avatar

Liseth E.

Yelp
Stopped by a coffee shop in Pasadena before dinner, and while the coffee was amazing, the portions were a bit small. Only two sizes, which felt like extra small and small. The coffee was so good, though, I could go for some right now. We also had a cookie, which was delicious, but the coffee stole the show. The customer service was really friendly, but be prepared to wait a little for your drink since so many people stop by for to-go orders. If you're grabbing it to go, 5 stars but if you're staying, 4 stars due to limited indoor seating. I also loved how the local businesses support each other. The bakery next door dropped off free cookies, and the coffee shop gave them coffee in return. A very trendy spot!

Yelp
Trying to find a new spot for my pre workout coffee is not easy because most places open at 8 a.m. Luckily, Blue Bottle opens at 6:30 and is in the general vicinity of the gym. I received an enthusiastic greeting from Raffi. He was very personable and made me feel welcomed. Glancing at the menu the NOLA caught my attention. Upon reading the description it sounded like their take on Café au Lait. Described as sweet, creamy, & mellowed with Chicory - this was my choice because I love chicory coffee. Raffi informed me that their lattes are made with oat milk, but you can substitute almond milk for an additional $1.25. I wanted to try the drink as it was meant to be served so I stayed with the oat milk and I also ordered a cranberry scone. In order to preserve the quality of their brew, Blue Bottle only sells coffee within a peak time frame after roasting. They create a custom roast for each blend that best expresses the desired flavor profile. The aesthetic of the shop is minimalistic with merchandise and bagged coffee available for purchase. There is a small indoor seating area and an outside patio area, which is dog friendly. Both are great for people watching. I couldn't wait to get back to the car so I could try my beverage. The foam was luscious and creamy and had a slight sweetness to it. Underneath, I could taste the nuttiness of the chicory. It was smooth and not overpowering. In fact, it was subtle and delightful. I savored the quality and freshness of the beans in every sip. I'm not sure if they add any sweetener but it was perfect and didn't need added sugar. The scone had a nice flavor. It was soft but still a bit crumbly. It was good but, I'm not gonna lie, I would have preferred a Beignet to go along with this delightful spin on a Café au Lait. *Conveniently located next to the School House Parking Structure.

Yelp
I've been to several locations, and after the initial shock of the very minimalistic design, I appreciated just how good and well-developed the coffee is...it's like a flavor adventure that spans many depths. And the baristas seem to take your coffee experience very seriously, as though their lives hinged on your enjoyment: and I say this in a good way. Coffee is certainly something to be taken seriously. :) Try the New Orleans (NOLA) or Spiced NOLA--heavenly hot or iced. I've even ordered their instant and regular coffee as gifts (they ship freshly-roasted batches fairly quickly.)

Yelp
One of the many Blue Bottle locations. Located in Old Town Pasadena is tucked right off of Colorado Blvd. Small location with limited seating so many people just grab and go. I have never had complaints on their coffee and their pastries are good.
google avatar

Brianna C.

Yelp
I got an iced latte, and it was fine. Nothing special or extraordinary about it. I do love the design of this place though, very sleek and clean. If you're in the area and need a cup of coffee, this will get the job done but it's nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
I walk past three other coffee shops to go to blue bottle. Why? Their coffee roasting and preparation is just better resulting in a higher quality cup. Customer service is personal. Kind of spendy though
google avatar

Nancy Q.

Yelp
Friendly and fast. Very tiny, a tad old, easy to miss. The cookies were delicious.
google avatar

Alex Q.

Yelp
This place was cool. Kinda small but there is outside seating. The individual pour coffee is pretty sweet and the missus really liked her iced winter nola (I am not sure what it is). The drinks are only one size. It's pretty sweet, give it a try.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Their iced Nola was a great experience. Really took me back to my time in New Orleans. Staff is nice. Place is clean and chill to hang out in. They also have an outdoor patio. Will be coming back for that Nola.
google avatar

Andrei R.

Yelp
Wonderful spot overall, with a surprising variety of delicious snacks and drinks. The interior is small but very well designed, making it a solid work and chill spot. We'd also love to acknowledge the friendly staff who were considerate of some of our special ingredient requests.
google avatar

Leilani M.

Yelp
Read about the popularity of blue bottle coffee. Visited the Pasadena location. Great service and decent coffee. Great curb appeal while you're doing some shopping. Inside is quaint with little window seats and a view to enjoy your brew. Patio area is on the side alley space.
google avatar

Peter X.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, the Pasadena location is great, parking is convenient on Green Street between raymond and fair oaks. Usually lines are not too long unless you go during peak morning and evening hours, but service is still quite fast and the cafe is cute, but very limited seating. Better to get the coffee to go unless you go during light hours with open seating space. I wish there were more sizes, sometimes I need a large coffee and they just have one size of some of the specialty coffees.
google avatar

Louisa L.

Yelp
Stopped by here today for a quick breakfast and coffee! I ordered a chocolate croissant and the hot Nola with oat milk. Chocolate croissant: 7/10. Unlike a lot of other chocolate croissants I've had, this had so much chocolate!! Just wish this was softer/fluffier and didn't break into a million crumbs with every bite. Hot Nola: 9/10. One of my go-to drinks at Blue Bottle! They have that unique nutty New Orleans flavor down!! I think I still prefer the iced version better, but the hot version was still amazing. Love love love Blue Bottle! Slightly pricier than your average coffee shop but so worth it IMO.
google avatar

Keilab A.

Yelp
Clean and minimalistic, come to blue bottle for some great quality coffee. I have been a matcha over coffee gal for a couple years now, but can't say that I enjoyed the iced matcha here... However, that's no slander on their brand because they are a coffee company. I tried their Giant Steps blend which is a dark roast, and was very pleased with the flavor. It was strong in a good way and I would recommend buying their beans to make at home!

Joey B.

Yelp
If I'm standing in the shop waiting for my Coffee, and it's been ready but the baristas just watch me stand there, that's incredibly bad service. Change your training to include "You audibly let customers know their order is ready, rather than just putting it in the cubby and waiting for them to figure it out." You do this because every one of your competitors does it, and the coffee is nowhere near "better" than Starbucks to have the wait time for a coffee be 10 minutes.

Taylor D.

Yelp
Best coffee in town!! Amazing lattes and we get their beans to roast at home - 10/10. Great service and nice atmosphere!
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
I was so excited to find a Blue Bottle in Pasadena! It's a tiny shop but set up really well with a few indoor seats. The staff is super friendly - they let us taste the cold brew on tap. My oat milk cappuccino was delicious as always. It's right off the main road but a must of you're coming from brunch or heading to go shopping.

Daniel S.

Yelp
Been coming here the past 3+ years as my go to decent coffee. Walked in with my dog in the mornings and afternoon no problem. Today they asked me to stay outside with my dog, the inconsistency of service and rules is unfortunate as I've come to view blue bottle as my staple. I guess I won't be coming here anymore until they become dog friendly, a place like this in old town, one of the most dog friendly areas in Pasadena, they really should consider the fact that old town is home to humans and dogs. Plenty of other coffee shops in old town that welcome pets.
google avatar

Sofia G.

Yelp
This place is a great spot to grab a quick coffee. I ordered the Nola (iced), which perfectly balanced the brew flavor and the oat milk. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was great to start a Sunday morning. There are a few outdoor seats to enjoy your coffee!

Amber K.

Yelp
We had this delivered while staying up in Pasadena and the cold brew was really something else. Absolutely incredible. We also ordered a latte and chocolate croissant, also delicious!
google avatar

Kristin Leigh M.

Yelp
After a good run, I love a good cup of tea. After running the Rose Bowl Half Marathon, I took to Yelp to see if there was Blue Bottle in the area. And hark! To my surprise.. there was! Woo hoo! My lucky day! I usually order through the app, but decided to order in shop this time. Black tea with steamed milk = yaaaas! I love the tea from Blue Bottle 'cos they steep it properly (via a timer). This location has a row of stool seating along the window (not huge, but just enough). Restroom available for customers. 2023: 9/100
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
I absolutely love the Blue Bottle Caffe Latte. It's smooth, with rich coffee flavor. It is a small place, and easily gets very crowded. Not a lot of tables inside, or outside so it is not a place you can bring your laptop to get some work done. Service here at Blue Bottle Coffee in Pasadena is good. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Small location with a minimalist design. Honestly, I thought the place was overhyped. The coffee was pretty average and there was nothing unique to it. Our coffees were also really small in quantity/ size for the price. I was expecting better given how well known Blue Bottle is, but the reality was disappointing. #65 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles. ********************* My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. Might return if others drag me. 4 Stars: Yum! Will definitely return. 5 Stars: Amazing! Would plan my day around eating here
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
Whenever I travel to larger cities (I live in Oregon), Blue Bottle is always a favorite. This Pasadena location did not disappoint. Our large group had wrapped up a meal at a taco place nearby (mmm), and were walking around Old Town. A few folks needed a restroom, and I saw an opportunity/excuse to visit Blue Bottle. First off, their restroom was convenient, which is always important. But the coffee, as usual, did not disappoint. I tried one of their featured drinks, and it had a lot of flavor. Now that I'm back in Oregon, alas, no more Blue Bottle retail for me. But I do make my daily cup from a subscription delivery of beans, and am never disappointed.
google avatar

Ellie S.

Yelp
Customer service promptly reached out to me regarding my review and offered me a refund for the experience. I like how proactive they were and hope changes can be made to the location. I've seen many reviews previously saying the same thing I did, but I'm still hopeful that they will improve the quality of the matcha soon!
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
I made an impulsive decision to pick up some coffee. When I walked in, the customers in front of me ordered this drink and I decided to follow suit. It's made with oatmilk, so it's the perfect creaminess that I'd want with my coffee on a lazy afternoon. I was very pleased with this drink! However, it did get diluted and I wished the ice cubes were coffee ice cubes instead.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
I came here for an iced tea and my review is simply based on the iced tea and the cleanliness of the restroom. The iced tea tasted really good. The restroom was BEYON disgusting which made me think of the cleanliness of the entire place. The reviews seem great and I'm not trying to make a negative review based simply on the restroom but this was shocking to me personally. The service also average just to add.
google avatar

Larissa R.

Yelp
They have great coffee, and they offer non-dairy milks for your lattes and cappuccinos. They're friendly and they have some seating, a bar with barstools and a couple of tables.
google avatar

Daniella R.

Yelp
Wow!! This place is delicious! High quality drinks ! The espresso is strong but so tasty. My new favorite is the sweet latte of course w oat milk ! Decent price given in old town it's all about 7.50 for a latte in old town. It's so convenient a little small but they do have a patio outside which is great. Nice clean restroom . Some what friendly not very talkative which Is fine. That won't stop me from coming back :)
google avatar

Ves S.

Yelp
Friendly knowledgeable staff! While they are a "chain" the coffee is pretty high quality, so for the same price point expect a smaller liquid volume. We actually saw some coffee products on their website but wanted to see the items in person. We saw they have some cold brew kits which is a great gift for a coffee fiend. The had them in stock and the staff showed me how they work. There's a bar seating area and some small individual sized tables inside and larger tables outside to enjoy your drink. Parking is available in the city lots but they charge now, I believe $1 for 2 hrs. There is metered street parking but not on fair oaks. Nearby side streets also have meters; pay attention at certain days they're "free" before 11a.
google avatar

Yelp
- Locale Destination - It's on S fair oaks ave and Mercantile pl in Pasadena. Ambiance: typical BB, modern, clean, simple. Lots of seating outside and some inside. Service: friendly Parking: parking structure or meter street parking - Gluttony Expedition - Cappuccino: lot more coffee taste than rich creaminess. It's not a typical flavor profile unlike most locations. Tasty, but different. - Conqueror's Deduction - I've tried the same cappuccino (w whole milk) at many BB locations - the first amazing cup of cappuccino at BB got me into the coffee world. It made me think coffee was actually tasty, though I was never a coffee person. I'm a certified sommelier and now coffee snob who can recognize the BB coffee taste with confidence. That's how much I love BB. I'm the finicky one who can recognize the slightest change on my favorite item when the restaurant changed the ingredients or cooking methods. That's how much I dedicated to good food and drinks. It's my passion. Though I've tried over 60 other coffee shops (cappuccino w whole milk and more), no one else can offer the same consistency throughout the branches like BB. Taste quality is high, too. That's what I love about BB. However, I'm losing a bit of the confidence in BB due to the last 2 locations that failed to offer the same consistency (out of our dozen BB trials). I didn't wanna lose the confidence in BB anymore, so I was hesitant to come here. But my coffee snob convinced me to give a shot... This is a bit mixed feeling.... My cappuccino was tasty. But it was a bit different from usual BB's cappuccino. Typical BB's cappuccino is more "creamy " than "coffee" taste. Coffee taste is typically a lot milder covered by the creaminess. This one was more coffee taste than creaminess, which isn't usual for BB. Most locations offer the same, rich creaminess. This is something I'd NOT expect from BB. Barista makes big differences on coffee. My barista was skilled. Did I get the usual BB coffee? No. I had to talk to barista how I felt about it and the area manager joined the conversation. I'm super confident in how BB coffee should taste like and wanted them to offer the same, great coffee wherever I go. I know I'm too finicky. After dozens of coffee trials, I come to BB to get THE coffee. If I don't get that BB taste, why should I come to BB?! I know it's not easy to offer the same quality throughout the branches. But if you tried dozens of BB branches like us, you'll know why we felt this differently.... Now I'm really losing my passion for BB. I should just go to the only locations I do know they offer the true BB taste..
