On the Grid : Blue Bottle

"So while you probably already know and love Blue Bottle now you have a chance to get to know one of their newest little outposts by the sea. Of all the great coffee and tea in the Venice area (and there is a lot) this little brewer still stands out with both amazing aesthetic and a quality cup every time." - The Branding Farm

LA Coffee Shops That Serve Great Food

"Blue Bottle might not be quite as cool anymore (that’s what happens when you get bought by Nestle), and their in-house eating options are limited to brought-in pastries, but the Abbot Kinney location is on this list for a reason: the rotating food trucks out front. Two of our favorites are regulars here - The Rooster on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and Guerrilla Tacos on Sundays. Order your food, head inside and grab a New Orleans iced coffee while you wait, and then sit on the curb to enjoy some of the best breakfast around." - jess basser sanders, brant cox

LA’s Best Iced Coffees And Cold Brews

"Sure, there are Blue Bottles in Washington, D.C., Seoul, and Tokyo. But even though it’s a chain, this is still an excellent, reliable option for coffee when you need it, from Malibu and Abbot Kinney to Los Feliz and Pasadena. Their New Orleans-style cold brew, made with coffee, roast chicory, and cane sugar, is a particular potent and sweet favorite. Just don’t ask for a Wi-Fi password when you’re here." - brett keating

This neighborhood café has been a go-to spot for my husband and me for years, and it’s truly special. The staff is exceptional—they remember every local’s name, which might seem like a small detail but makes such a big difference. They’re warm, friendly, and feel more like friends than staff. The manager sets the tone with incredible energy, creating a fun, positive atmosphere that’s contagious. We love coming here—it’s a true cornerstone of the community.

Cute shop with great pastries. Drinks are made with oat milk already! Had an iced oat milk NOLA style drink and my husband had a brown sugar latte. The drinks were well made and smooth! Enjoyed sitting outside under the umbrellas!

Google
Best coffee in Abbot Kinney. The store is a bit tight inside with all seating out front. Not much in the way of merchandise and a small selection of pastries. Coffee is always on point. Parking is street only and Abbot Kinney can often take time. Use the larger pay lots just off Abbot Kinney. Recommend.

Google
Great coffee on AK - recommend ordering online before arriving as it gets busy so the in person wait can be a while!

One of my favorite coffee shops and I went for the lavender latte it was so good

Abbott Kinney, baby! Quirky shops, loads of tourists, and rich people run shoulders in this quaint shopping district in Venice.

Yelp
Tbh the best blue bottle location in LA. The new orleans is always consistently good!! Although there are no seats, the place is packed most of the time!

Yelp
Gooooood coffee and that's that. If you're a consumer and connoisseur of the high end stuff then it's a no brainer. Yes - a tad more expensive than other coffee shops but treat yourself at least once in a while. The baristas are experienced and efficient. note that you should specify if you'd like it extra hot ! I find it always to be a little on the warm side so I make sure to ask. it's a busy Abbot Kinney location and parking can be challenging at times but something always pops up and street parking is free. Casual place, mostly grab and go but with some seating outside.

Yelp
I used to go to Blue Bottle all the time in NY. I loved the winter latte. It was not too sweet and had exciting flavors of juniper and pepper... super unique. Parking stinks but we managed to find some street parking.

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee offers a fantastic coffee experience! The quality of their brews is consistently excellent, with smooth, rich flavors that stand out. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is perfect for enjoying a cup or getting some work done. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the prices are a bit on the higher side, but it's worth it for the quality. Definitely a great spot for coffee lovers!
google avatar

Yelp
Metered street parking. I did find street parking across the street that was free. Cute location, clean and nice decor. Restrooms available in the back. Friendly and fast service. Pastries are delicious. Coffee is well presented and great tasting. They also sell beans and etc to take home.

Yelp
I go to the blue bottle on abbot Kinney every single day, the sweetest group of baristas I've ever met :) they greet me by first name every day and I'm truly addicted to the uplifting spirited kindness they offer to me in my morning ritual before I go to work. Shoutout to Selena and the gang

Yelp
Great coffee right on Abbott Kinney, Has great afternoon light and a place to hang. J

Yelp
The line here is waaaaay too long. Only reason why it's less stars. Always a go to place and prime location to grab an iced americano after brunch and walk along Abbott Kinney boutiques.

Yelp
I have tried Blue Bottle on the east coast and was always impressed with how smooth the coffee was. I recently decided to try their match and with no surprise loved how smooth and delicious it was! We stopped by the Abbot Kinney location on a Friday and had a barista who was incredibly friendly and knew his stuff. He has a consistent line of people but handle each coffee order as they came. Even more impressive the coffee was delicious as he stayed consistent with the traffic running a one-man show with no help (the other staff member was handling admin items). Excellent location, staff, and coffee. Can't wait to stop at this location again!

Yelp
Coffee and matcha looked amazing but tasted terrible!!! 2/10 My sweet latte expresso tasted like watered down coffee with 90% oat milk.

Yelp
I visited friends near abbot Kinney Blvd and I saw blue bottle coffee shop . They had nice outdoor sitting area and many smiling people around around so I decided to give it a try. First it's so beautiful inside, modern and minimalistic. The baristas were very nice and patient. The coffee was really tasty and rich so much I decided to buy a bag of it and try it with my espresso machine at home. Ill be back there and recommend friends.

Yelp
I've had Blue Bottle before at a different location and hadn't been impressed. Maybe it was due to the drink I'd ordered, but any case, I was willing to give it another try. I opted for the Cardamom latte this time, and WOW! I got a big hit of floral orange blossom, and overall, a very delightful drink. The barista prepared the latte beautifully; I'd say Blue Bottle redeemed itself!

Yelp
Small drip coffee. $5. 10 minute wait. Thursday, not very busy. Served with an attitude. . . . . .

Yelp
Love it .... Great crew ... the spiced Nola is very legit. Just a good positive vibes coffee shop. If in the area it is a must check out !!

Angie L.

Yelp
Had their caramel chocolate chunk cookie, vegan banana bread with pecans, and a strawberry croissant this morning. Holy holy they all were delicious! I wish they'd offer a 16 ounce latte. And I think the cost for their 12 ounce latte is too high. I can get a 16 ounce latte from Intelligentsia for less than a 12 ounce latte from BB. But these pastries are not to be missed!
google avatar

Saphace A.

Yelp
I've tried their bottled cold brew from Whole Foods before and was excited to get to see this place in person! Their coffee is decent, so I ordered matcha. Pretty light but not bad! No seating inside, only outside. They're really just taking orders when you walk up to the counter. It's a cute area super close to the beach. Walking around here is pretty easy. Lots of people were walking around and stopping by for drinks.

Yelp
I am sure the one of a kind amazing manager, Selina , will sooner or later see this post haha. I was both a past guest and a former employee at this location. And I can tell you guys so much about this location that you may want to know or don't f care. But all in all, this place is a rare gem and practices one heck of unparalleled consistency like no others. Whether you've been to other blue bottle locations, tried different drinks, maybe have good, great, or even poor experience in your visits because of hospitality, prolonged waiting time, or the quality of the drink, or whatever it may be; Abbot Kinney blue bottle is entirely a place of its own... yes it's true. I myself have coffee crawled over 20 different locations in LA, and some in Japan. And not just Blue Bottle in general. I have been to numerous coffee shops, and experience all kinds of quality of hospitality. And this place has upheld a spectacular consistency in hospitality, community, and the quality of specialty coffee. It is unfortunate that this quality isn't nearly as consistent in many other blue bottle locations. But we all know this. It is all too common in too many shops around the world, especially in major company or chains. That's why this place is literally an island of its own. If you are a coffee lover, then come to this spot. Cuz the quality of the drinks is crazy upheld. The staff would rather remake your drink other than serve it out bad even during a crazy rush. And they practice dial and even redial coffee until it actually taste good enough to be served. And yes, I cannot leave out the fact that this location is the busiest SoCal location in number of transactions. If you don't mind waiting for long as 20 mins for a cup of coffee, then I am confident to say that it is worth the wait. This place has a high number of regulars and foot traffic that everyday from as early as 7 am till 10 am after, is a mob town. And the number of people coming itself shows how busy and great this location is. This place continues to practice a great coffee culture. The management is literally top notch. And in turn, the team has a good value in practicing consistent hospitality and quality. Even if you happen to experience a not so great visit in a pocket of moment when the cafe cannot control, come back again and give it another shot. I mean, no shop is 100 perfect. But this place is for sure in the top 95% in the least.
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
I don't see the big hype around this place. Coffee is decent but it's nothing worthwhile. I ordered the iced Nola which was okay, not much flavor but the coffee itself was decent.

Elle L.

Yelp
Selina and team are the best in the business! Excellent coffee and amazing service. They create a wonderful sense of community. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
I love their coffee. New Orleans, Cappuccino, Shakerato, Sweet Latte... all solid. They default now to Oat Milk so if you're a whole milk person, you need to specify that from the jump. Now the most important detail to mention, Bluebottle no longer serves Sugarbloom Pastries. If you've ever had their croissants, you'd know how top rate they are. Flaky outside, soft buttery inside. They're so good I've ordered their frozen ones and had them delivered from Glassell Park. I'm not vegan but even their vegan offerings are good. The current croissants are... fine. I probably wouldn't care if I've never had Sugarbloom but I have and now they will be sorely missed.

Reinaldo G.

Yelp
This staff becomes family. I've been a regular for years. Best coffee hands down. Just don't be in a rush. Take your time. And this place is our gold. Order ahead!!! But if you have time, take your time. And just chill. Get to know your coffee. And your baristas. They are the best!
google avatar

Yelp
Blue Bottle gets it right every time in every location. My favorite is the Venice Beach location. Service is friendly, and to my dog too! Pissssst- their pastries are half off after 3:00- get the salted chocolate chip cookie if there's one left!
google avatar

Yelp
Expensive! Ordered a small latte, Good, not omg great. Nowhere to sit but outside. Parking is hard around here. To be fair will give it another chance as maybe I'm missing something?
google avatar

Yelp
I. am. obsessed. with their New Orleans Style Coffee & Winter Latte!! I don't even like coffee! That's how you know it's good! I am craving their coffee as I write this interview. I really wanted to say this place is an overpriced hipster coffee shop but I really can't. I never knew I liked coffee until I came here. The vegan cookie was pretty good too! The baristas are always patient with all my questions and always make the drinks consistently good. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Came here on a hot summer day and got the iced cafe latte with oat milk. It was very smooth and delish. They usually have a line but it moves rather quickly. Really enjoyed and excited to come back to try the other drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
I am a regular, and hooked. The coffee is the most consistent, high quality I've experienced (been to places where coffee can occasionally be better, but then the same drink comes much worse; great if you're looking for some thrill in your coffee life). The team is working very hard, understanding and knowing their customers. Once they got me usual coffee I wanted, rather than the one I did order by mistake; re-did my coffee when I came later than expected, served me a coffee when my order didn't come through (app bug). They greet customers with a smile; I cheer up every morning visiting them. I read reviews of people unhappy about the wait time - which I understand. I did talk to BB crew about it. Abbott Kinney seems to be high concentration of great coffee lovers, you do have to wait regardless of the place (yes, talking to you, Intelligentsia). Plus colder season brings more people for a hot coffee, which takes longer to prepare than iced coffee. Especially the drip - one of their popular ones. And the place is so good that it became very busy between 7.45-9.00 a.m. If in rush, do order ahead (Blue Bottle app is as good as their coffee, which is great). The experience has always been wonderful for me - meeting a random couple met in the line and forming a lasting friendship included.

Yelp
Lifelong Blue Bottle fan over here! Had to make a stop while strolling around Abbot Kinney this past weekend. Props to the guy holding down both walk up and app orders *and* making the drinks while we were there! He was pretty busy but super friendly. I ordered my go-to (Americano with oat milk) and it was so, so good. The inside of the shop is closed to customers (they take your order at the door) and there's no real seating here (inside or out), so just keep that in mind if you were meeting up with someone. Highly recommend downloading the app and ordering, paying, and tipping that way to make things easy. Speaking of apps, you can also order a salad through the Sweetgreen app and pick it up at this Blue Bottle location. A winning combo in my book! Parking on Abbot Kinney is pretty much always a a pain, but look for paid spots in the alley behind the shop (the Eastside of the street) or in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Best coffee in town. Delicious lattes and staff is very friendly. Each coffee made with care and tastes amazing
google avatar

Bernadette A.

Yelp
The seasonal date latte I got was flavorful. It had a strong nutmeg taste which blends well and sets it apart from other lattes I've had. Moreover, the service in this location was fast and friendly. Gave this place a 4 out of 5 because I think it's overpriced
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Just silky silky smooth coffee, what I imagine heaven tastes like. The prices are steep but comparable to other coffee shops. I appreciate the outdoor seating - it's a great place to hang while enjoying

Emma B.

Yelp
easily the best coffee of the street. the staff really does care - bringing coffee to you if you're sitting outside mid conversation. order ahead to save time in line! i am greeted with love and the most delicious cup of cold brew every time. you guys are wonderful, thank you always!
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
Tiny shop on Abbot Kinney that produces great coffee, on par with several of the other Blue Bottles I've been to. It's not the best location by any means. parking could be better, and more space would be nice to chat with others or get work done. Definitely a grab and go kind of coffee place. The menu is concise, not a ton of options but all the usual suspects are on there. There's espressos, cold brews, drip coffees, non-coffees, etc. Oat milk and almond milk can be substituted for a little bit extra. Drinks range from $3.25 to $4.75, with a majority around $4. There are also some baked goods you can pair with your order. Since I am a fan of sweet things, and I'm still trying to get used to coffee, I go for the New Orleans. It's a healthy mix of milk, chicory, and cane sugar. There's a lot of flavor, some bitterness, and a hint of sweetness. It serves as my "gateway beverage" as I transition from frappuccinos to ice coffee to eventually regular coffee. Love the care and precision that goes into every cup. The work and effort they put in daily really makes a difference.
google avatar

Khadij A.

Yelp
If you know, you know. Best coffee in LA, I always get the New Orleans and never need to make any changes. The baristas are more than willing to customize your drink as needed. Definitely something all coffee lovers need to try!
google avatar

Valerie C.

Yelp
Blue bottle coffee! Amazing, I was shppping at century city mall. And absolutely loved the fact that they where different than Starbucks and the other cafes. I ordered the Louisiana coffee and I fell in love. A must try
google avatar

Tally S.

Yelp
I got the New Orleans coffee it was very good. I just wish Blue Bottle had flavors like vanilla or caramel. The service was really fast and helpful, the cashier made a lot of good suggestions for my first time there.

Yelp
I was strolling through Venice Beach and wanted to grab a cool drink that could keep me awake for the rest of the day. And I'll just say this about the blue bottle coffee: It's Damn Good coffee. I've seen a place like this in L.A and decided to try it out. Since it was a hotter day, it looked like the iced coffees were the go-to item on their list. So I'm basing this off of one drink and a one-off visit. Gave it a try. Not bad. The flavor was strong but without the bitterness of a regular coffee. The cold brew is done differently and takes a bit to filter out some of that stuff. But the taste was amazingly smooth congruent to its strength. I didn't feel the need to add any sweetener or milk to the cup. The atmosphere and service seemed inviting and laid back. It totally fit in with the beach crowd. Whenever I'm back in Venice and in need of a pick-up drink, I'll make this my go-to spot and try some of the other drinks here :)
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
Blue Bottle is one of my favorite coffee shops. It's located on Abbot Kinney and always has a lot of people waiting to get their morning coffee. It's right by the beach, lots of tourists walking around and a couple big companies (Google, Snapchat, Buzzfeed) closeby. The coffee here is very rich and strong. I always order my coffee with oat milk since it is very creamy. Great for people who are lactose intolerant since it is dairy free and vegan. In my opinion, it tastes better than milk or heavy cream! I usually order the caffe latte with oat milk or a cold brew with oat milk. If you are looking for a light and refreshing drink, I would recommend the cascara fizz.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
Was in the area and in need of some caffeine, so I decided to stop by for some iced coffee. Per my friend's recommendation I got the New Orleans with oat milk and I was pretty happy with my choice. It was the perfect ratio of creaminess and sweetness without diluting the coffee taste. Parking: Free street parking available.
google avatar

Delilah S.

Yelp
Welcoming staff that you can have a genuine conversation with. The service here is excellent. Baristas aren't pushy rather patient and helpful. Went with the New Orleans coffee with Almond milk. First few sips and I fell in love. Then, on the traffic jammed ride home, I got really tired of the chicory flavor. I now know I should get something else. A bit overhyped and definitely pricey compared to your average cup of joe. Not worth a trip, but give it a try when you're in Venice!
google avatar

Ruriko S.

Yelp
Coffee is my addiction but I try to drink it only 3 times a week, that's why I really enjoy drinking a good coffee no matter how much I need to pay. Yesterday my friend brought to Blue Bottle and my experience was great. The smell of the coffee was just perfect, I was in heaven while I was drinking it, I also ate an orange poundcake slice that was so moist that melted in my mouth. Blue Bottle is now one of my favorite places for my coffee during weekends! The only part that I didn't like was that they charge $1 extra for almond milk but I still highly recommend it.
google avatar

Aga S.

Yelp
Beware. We just got 2 ham sandwiches with rancid ham. Not to mention we tried to feed our baby with it before we opened it and realized what's inside.
google avatar

Ersin G.

Yelp
One of the best coffee in town. The staff is amazing, always smiling and good vibes. The price is good for the quality and location. This place has been my daily coffee place for a year almost.
google avatar

Jasmine Q.

Yelp
Malory was a cashier that helped us this morning. We placed an order for three drinks and an avocado toast, a warmed up croissant and a lemon poppy scone. She was a little disappointed I didn't tip with my card so I moved to the side to leave a cash tip and she gave me this unpleasant look that made me feel like she was doing me a favor. We got the Matcha and the avocado toast fairly quickly but waited 27 minutes for the rest. When we got the avocado toast I asked her do you know how long with the rest take and she said there was a lot of people in front of me and I had a big order so I would have to wait. Literally everybody behind me and in front of me was gone in 27 minutes the manager finally came out and asked us what we were waiting for and he was apologetic friendly courteous fast and honestly if it wasn't for him I don't think I would go back.
google avatar

Eya C.

Yelp
I come here for my daily dose of good vibes, the folks who work here are ridiculously cool and awesome. Shout out to Marilyn, Gus and Selina. Heart you guys! They have this amazing roasted tea latte called Hōjicha. Definitely worth a try if you don't drink coffee and want to try an alternate :)

Homer Jay S.

Yelp
Great coffee. Consistently maddening customer experience. (1) If you use the app and order ahead of time, when you arrive 10 mins later to get your coffee, the people in line who have yet to place their order may get their drinks before you do -- which, of course, defeats the purpose of ordering in advance. (2) After you place your order and they give you a pick-up time, that time can be re-estimated by the time you show up and go from, for example, 10 to 20 minutes -- requiring you to unexpectedly have to wait for 10 mins once you arrive to get your coffee. (3) Their app has pre-set tip amounts and doesn't allow you to pick your own tip. (4) There's no number for the retail location -- so, for example, if you think you left a personal item behind, you have to go back to the store to find out if you've done so. (5) Their customer service and management ignore emails.
google avatar

Jina S.

Yelp
Finally got to try Blue Bottle, and the coffee did not disappoint. Got the New Orleans iced coffee, with oats milk. I really liked the coffee! I thought it would be too sweet, so I asked for less sweet, but the guy said that though they add sugar it isn't very sweet, so I trusted him. But it took me a bit to understand what he was saying because he didn't explain the drink very clearly. I did not get it until the other worker clarified it for me, but when he did, the first guy was showing attitude in a way that made me feel dumb, which I did not appreciate. He could have taken a few seconds to explain what the drink was, which he clearly had, or even another worker, because they were pretty relaxed talking and having fun with each other. Tempted to give 3 stars, but I think the drink outweighed the negativity from the worker. Hopefully next time I have a better overall experience
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
Definitely the winner when it comes to drink quality and aesthetic. This small shop takes special pride in the perfection and exquisite presentation of every cup served. There isn't much for seating (two stools against the side wall towards the restrooms, at best) and a short bench outside that functions more to cover up some exposed piping. If I want just a coffee to go, Blue Bottle would be my first choice. If I wanted anything else to drink, snack and/or seating area, then my first choice in this area would be Intelligentsia.
google avatar

Yelp
Really wanted to love this place because I've heard so many people speak so highly about it but honestly I was very underwhelmed. The staff was great and the ambience is nice (modern and minimalistic), the coffee just really came up short for me. Paid 7 dollars for a 16oz cold brew with almond milk and it was just okay. I am willing to pay 7 dollars for great cold brew, but the quality just didn't match the price here. I would pay 5 dollars max for the cold brew that I was served. Additionally, my friend got an oat milk matcha latte which tasted like straight oat milk with matcha essence at best lol. The oat milk was honestly super high quality and tasted great but obviously wasn't the taste she was hoping for when ordering matcha. Nice space, just didn't live up to the hype.

Yelp
Blue bottle coffee is great coffee. And they have oat milk. No vanilla flavor tho. Would recommend to all. Especially coffee enthusiasts
