"The west coast chain comes to Logan Circle, but don’t come looking for a place to open up your laptop and do work--this is a no wifi spot kind of coffee chain. Conversations only please." - Rebecca Gale

"Blue Bottle is opening this weekend on the Wharf, marking the cult coffee chain’s fifth area location since debuting in D.C. only a year ago. The California-based roaster is scheduled to start pouring its gourmet java at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 22. Customers that visit between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, can get one free cup of coffee as part of Blue Bottle’s standard 'community day' outreach — which in this case includes donating the proceeds from any on-site sales to nonprofit partner charity: water. The exploding brand, founded in 2002 and recently acquired by Nestle, currently has outposts in eight cities in the U.S. and Japan. Blue Bottle’s first area cafe opened in Georgetown in July 2017, followed by two more near Union Market and Union Station. It’s entering competitive caffeine territory with its arrival on the Wharf, which houses incoming bakery District Doughnut and Dolcezza. Blue Bottle recently opened in Logan Circle and has a futuristic one planned for downtown later this year. Blue Bottle’s newest outpost is projected to operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Status: Scheduled to open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 22." - Tierney Plumb

This amazing coffee shop is situated adjacent to the canal in Georgetown. It offers premium-quality coffee that tastes fantastic. The decor is minimalistic, neat, and fashionable with a white and light wood tone that creates a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere. You can opt to sit inside or outside. During pleasant weather, outdoor seating with a view of the canal is highly sought after and fills up fast.

Google
Big fan of blue bottle (humbly), i would always make it a point to visit blue bottle whenever possible. This particular outlet, nestled alongside the canal, was particularly charming with its picturesque brownstone facade, inviting high ceiling and spacious layout. However it seems the queue never dwindles - it’s always bustling with activity. Despite multiple reviews of racism, I personally did not experience any such behaviours during my visit. The outlet is teeming with visitors including tourists and university students. I was impressed by the meticulous presentation of our match and made sure to compliment the barista, who responded with a warm smile. Let’s make this world a better place for everyone!

Kelly Lee

Google
Located in such a pretty cozy neighborhood. But this place is extremely packed. Only one restroom. The line is crazy long. The coffee taste rather bland too. So many people working on their laptops and taking the tables..

Ira Aryani

Google
must visit ice coffee cafe on summer! Located near the canal, when the weather is nice, you can sit and enjoy the weather. I like all the ice coffee variant, perfect way to enjoy summer or spring. There are queue sometimes but the line moves fast.

Ray B.

Google
It’s nice to grab a cup of coffee outside since this location is not crowded by cars and there are enough tables and chairs so it’s nice to stop by you haven’t tried the blue bottle coffee.

Fahad Aqeel

Google
Great Great coffee! The New Orleans Style or the Saffron Vanilla latte are my favorite. Great location right on the canal.

Sparkly Freeze

Google
We love the way their making their drips coffee and the aromatic flavours as we are Indonesians love our black coffee aroma and taste so much and finding this place in DC was awesome ☕️☕️☕️

Sara Sohani

Google
blue bottle is always great ◡̈ i loved their seasonal chocolate nola as well. service was good and line moved fast! and there are many places to sit.

Yelp
None assuming coffee shop with delicious pastries and wonderful coffee. I've visited more than one of their locations, this one in Georgetown and the other location in Mid-Town Manhattan. Whenever, I'm at DC's Union Station it's either too early or late for me visit that location. The Staff are friendly and make lovely art on the coffee milk foam. I've had both their coffee and hot chocolate, both were delicious. The Georgetown location was filled with people working or studying, it was a much larger location inside. The Mid-Town Manhattan location had a smaller footprint, with more seating outside being a busy and pricy space. It's a good coffee house to check out.

Samina M.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance both inside and outside of this Gtown location. However, drinks are often half filled and lack flavor. My friend and I came in on a Sunday morning and were excited to dive into the Iced Nola Shakerato and Cold Brew. To my surprise, both drinks tasted nearly identical. As a fan of the Nola style drinks, I was quite disappointed - especially after this drink being $9. The service is speedy and the staff were friendly. Hope to see this location produce better quality drinks soon!

Jooa Eun K.

Yelp
Really good tasting coffee! I got the iced sweet latte, and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The espresso was rich and smooth. However, be prepared to pay for it--this drink was $9. Also, it's always packed here, so finding a spot to sit can be quite difficult.

Ria D.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Saturday in Georgetown. This was my favorite time trying blue bottle coffee and I was not disappointed! The line was out the door when we arrived, but we made it to the front in about 5 minutes. I wanted a vanilla latte, and the waitress said they didn't have that but offered to give me one of their house syrups instead. My drink came out 15 minutes after the rest of my friends but the baristas apologized and gave me a voucher for next time- it was very nice of them! I really liked the coffee. All the seats were full when we came, so it would be risky place to try and do work, but I will be back for more coffee!

Diondra B.

Yelp
Stopped in and tried their new foam matcha. Service was ok and was the drink. They have different flavors to choice from. I usually get the Nola and prefer that

Karen T.

Yelp
Great quick service. Maybe because it's post school. I also got a blueberry scone that I didn't have a picture for. It was more than 90 degrees but still people sitting outside. Inside are large tables more conducive to group work than having private conversations with some bar seating and a few couple seating around the edge of the space

Yvonne W.

Yelp
Seriously gone down hill to entirely commercialized the blue bottle coffee experience. The once shaken iced coffee are all now pre made in a jar and just adding ice. There use to be a much more craftsman ship in the coffee and now the experience of blue bottle is just - probably like your ordinary Starbucks.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Blue bottle coffee is a downtown Georgetown staple set aside for only the most elite coffee lovers. The shop has a beautiful view of the river, tons of outdoor seating and indoor seating. Though there is often a line for coffee, it is worth the wait. Each drink order is truly poured with love, intention, and care. This time we tried espressos!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
The employees are always quick and from what I can tell the only gluten free option for baked goods is the cheese cake. It's a very chill coffee shop. I see a lot of people studying. It's long tables. More a communal vibe. I like their seasonal coffees. It's in the heart of Georgetown so very easy to pop into.

Namremaz T.

Yelp
The coffee is good. The food is fine. But the bathroom situation is barbaric. One unisex toilet for everyone, which means half of the clientele views the place as their private office for 10 minutes or more.

Alexis R.

Yelp
This place is slightly overrated. Pretty pricey for decent coffee. I paid $10 for an okay latte. While the service is great and they make the drinks quickly despite it always being busy, I wouldn't go back.

Johnnie C.

Yelp
A nice stop in a day of shopping... very hot outside so I was ready something cool and refreshing. Blue Bottle was recommended to me so I walked over. The place is a fun, formerly historic industrial area along a canal. Indoor/outdoor seating was easy to find, however it was a hot day so much of the inside seats were spoken for. The menu was simple and there was a small offering of pastries to choose from. I chose an iced coffee that was yummy and really worked as relief from the heat. The outside seating along the canal was both beautiful and peaceful. I'm so glad I found this place and didn't have to go to the next 10 shops my wife had in her list. I'll just chill here thank you...

Michelle C.

Yelp
I visited (maybe) plenty of stores of Blue Bottle around the world, this place is definitely one of the greatest coffee shop among them! Great ambience with a brick wall! Even though many people are in line after late morning, I will revisit here again.

Dara D.

Yelp
The coffee at this location is some of the best in the area and there's rarely any misses. They have a solid standard in terms of quality, and it feels like they do a great job at training their baristas to make great coffee. Unfortunately, the last time we went (Monday Jan 2?), the coffee was average at best. The espresso my brother ordered tasted terrible (very bitter), the cup was barely full and a bit of a mess. All I'll say is; presentation matters! The one other downside is that despite them being incredibly busy a majority of the time with a massive line that's forms relatively quick, they're maddeningly slow. Bonus points on bringing up real cups! It's nice to sit there in the shop and drink out of a mug.

Carolyn C.

Yelp
"Must be good!" We thought as we walked up the steep steps. Every seat from the outside patio to each table within was spoken for. We thought an event was going on but apparently that's just the typical Saturday night. I'm surprised they had coffee left for us! I was stuck between the Saffron or sweet latte. The barista said that I should do the sweet latte since I was ordering cold to-go. It wasn't the best. It lacked taste--I felt like I was served iced milk. Wasn't worth the close to $10! What is with expensive coffee these days? Both my taste buds and bank account were robbed of quality and enjoyment.

Yelp
Disappointing Experience at Blue Bottle Coffee - Unprofessionalism Galore I had an abysmal encounter at Blue Bottle Coffee after placing an order online for two lattes. Upon arrival, the chaos began. One cup bore illegible smudged writing, while the other remained untouched. Given my mom's lactose intolerance, I politely sought clarification from Grace, who dubiously claimed to be the manager. Instead of assistance, I received an appalling response: "Just taste it." When I refused to risk someone's health by sipping from an ambiguous cup, Nathan jumped in, confidently contradicting himself, offering misguided advice about their labeling practices. Eventually, the real manager, Talia, had to intervene to rectify the situation created by Grace and Nathan's incompetence. Grace's claim of being a manager was false; she was merely in training. Nathan's blatant misinformation and refusal to rectify his mistake were unacceptable. Their unprofessionalism and lack of respect were utterly appalling. Talia, the only beacon of professionalism, salvaged the situation with genuine apologies for their team's incompetence. The cherry on top? There wasn't a queue, so their mismanagement wasn't due to a rush. Blue Bottle Coffee's appalling customer service, fueled by Grace and Nathan's incompetence, made this experience the epitome of disappointment. Also ordered a cappuccino originally tasted awful that Nathan made but Talia was able to make it perfectly.

Yelp
I do agree that Georgetown is a little lacking in coffee shops. Gave this one a try and got an iced coffee and a breakfast sammie because they were out of avocado toast. I did love the hot sauce, but overall I thought they were just ok. The inside looks like an apple store with their long wood tables but they are lacking in available outlets as a lot of people were clamoring around any outlet available. Doesn't factor into my review - just an observation.

Zackary U.

Yelp
Such a clean aesthetic, wonderfully simple branding, and a phenomenal cold brew! Now I need one to come to Texas!

David M.

Yelp
Blue Bottle is a local coffee chain in the DC area with several locations around the area. They have a full menu regarding coffee and have some snacks and small bites you can get. I came here just for a quick snack and got the egg bites. The place was very busy and filled with students here either studying or people working from home. I found them to be a little slow in my order. It took them quite a while for them to fulfill my order. I got the spinach and cheese egg bites. I got two of them and they were decent. I would come back here for a coffee and a drink. The drinks looked delicious and very generous. The restaurant was clean and everyday was super friendly and helpful.

Wei H.

Yelp
Nice hidden gem in DC. I'll go for hang out and enjoy the nature. I had ice green tea. Pretty good. Outside is really good for taking pictures. A little further down is shopping area. Service is standard. Pay then pick up your coffee. Friendly staff. Only 1 bathroom so long wait as expected.

Zee A.

Yelp
They do coffee right. A buoy expensive though. And my coffee temperature felt rushed as it was not hot. Love the fact that they're open late. My cookie was mushy but tasty. By, yeah, $6.50 for a lukewarm small coffee was rough...

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Y U M. We live in NJ but only go to Blue Bottle in Georgetown, lol. It is clean and modern inside, there's a ton of seating! I can't say much for the pastries/food but I can say that the coffee is killer. I always get the sweet latte, iced and really enjoy it. The service is quick and kind! Can't wait to go back!

Mannie S.

Yelp
When I arrived here around noon on a Saturday morning, I was annoyingly surprised that there was a line outside the door. Here goes my plan of working in a coffee shop with a good cup of coffee. :( I was then happily surprised how fast the line went and how efficiently and professionally the baristas here work! I was able to get my latte and avocado toast in a very timely matter, and they both taste great. Visiting Blue Bottle - checked! I would say that for an international chain, they do live up to the hype, but as for if it is the best coffee ever? Not really XD

Rob L.

Yelp
Friendly staff and fast service. Try the spinach egg bites unique but soo good. Great location by tons of shops along the canal and jogging path. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well.

Fazle R.

Yelp
service and quality have gown down significantly in the last six months...barista seemed not interested in serving people who don't look like her... coffee was cold...

Emily C.

Yelp
Blue Bottle is always a great coffee chain for getting a quick caffeine break. Despite being located in a busy area, this one is somewhat tucked away from the main streets. There was a long line on a Sunday afternoon but it moved fairly quick and they pumped out the drinks fast too. There were plenty of tables and seating both indoors and outside but although there were many people getting work done here, I don't think I would've been able to since it's quite loud. There's also only one bathroom so of course, there was line to use it too.

Israel L.

Yelp
Watered down. $8 dollars for a small. Not worth your money. Cool ambience but the caffeine is not present.

David S.

Yelp
This is def one of best coffee spots in GTown! Def gotta hit it up, they got amazing coffee/pastries. It's right on the canal so great place to get a cup of Joe and then go for a stroll along the canal, stop by when u get a chance!

Tyler H.

Yelp
This is my go-to coffee shop! They have the absolute best flavored espresso. I also love that they serve fresh pastries from local bakeries. The interior design here is stunning and it's even better when they open up the big windows in summer. Plus, the staff here is always sweet and welcoming!

Sarah K.

Yelp
OMG LOVEEEE!!! I've gone to blue bottle in LA and San Diego and was BEYOND excited to see there's one out here in Gtwon!! Their New Orleans cold brew is TO DIE FOR!!!! 10/10 recommend!!

Lauren M.

Yelp
Their menu isn't extensive but what they do make, they make well. I went for a basic iced coffee to get a taste and it was well rounded. They have cute seating inside and an open air feel with lots of options to sit around the canal.

Austin G.

Yelp
This one of several Blue Bottle Coffee shops in Washington, D.C. and perhaps the largest. Located in an alley in Georgetown along the C&O Canal, it's in a building almost 100 years old. The space itself is large and normally has tables and chairs. During the pandemic, it's takeout only. There's usually a line, but it goes fast. Expect a few minutes to wait for your drink. The coffee itself is very smooth. I always get the latte and it's so creamy that you don't need any sugar in it. There are tables outside with Georgetown views.

Anushka M.

Yelp
Still my go to coffee shop and specifically this location in Georgetown! Lots of space to come and do some work, or to grab a drink and relax outside. Free Wi-Fi helps with my motivation to sit and do some work! Staff are so friendly and always give great recommendations. My go to order is a Shakerato with oat milk and their chocolate croissant. Always delicious and the perfect balance of sweet and coffee.

Mychelle H.

Yelp
I really like stopping in here when I can. I grew up on Vietnamese coffee and this hits the spot for me. I was first introduced in the Bay Area where you can buy the little milk like cartoons at your local grocery store. The staff are quite nice and the drinks come out pretty quick. Didn't get to sit inside this time around but seems very spacious and the perfect space to do some work or studying if you like background noise (which I do)

Aramis P.

Yelp
Ugh it's hard not to like Blue Bottle Coffee. I'm tempted to give less than 5 stars because the prices, even by DC standards, are high ($6.50 for a 16oz iced coffee, $5.50 for a chocolate croissant). But despite that, I can't stop myself from coming back here again and again because the flavors are really on point, and the setting, right on the Georgetown canal with really great outdoor sitting options (both directly outside and across the canal), is perfect for reading, relaxing, or chatting on a nice day. On a cooler day, the indoor open concept setting is great as well. Being a sweet tooth, the New Orleans Style iced coffee is my go-to. Pastry wise, the Almond Tart, especially when warmed up, is divine.

Lei S.

Yelp
Nice coffee! My wife likes the latte and also the chocolate (did not take pictures but it's just next to the register). It's different from the Starbucks latte. Their latte by default is using oat milk instead of milk. Very creamy and delicious

Robin F.

Yelp
Packed! Only 1 bathroom. Long wait for customers. Very cold and not a NorCal vibe at all! Coffee still good but I am not a fan of this cafeteria type cement warehouse place. A college jam all inside to work on big tables and not interact. Love the coffee, from SF Cali. But it has embraced the frigid hospitality. Got coffee and tea but I held out to go for more ambiance. Sorry!

Cimiya D.

Yelp
if you want to grab an early morning coffee when you try watch the sunrise on a foggy day this place is the best! the barista was very friendly and gave us a first timer recommendation! A must when in Georgetown!

Ruthie P.

Yelp
I've tried almost every cafe in Georgetown that serves matcha lattes and this is by far the best. The only downside is that there is not a lot of table eating inside and the furniture is not very comfortable. So, this is a place I go when I want a drink to go, rather than to it down and relax.

Basant I.

Yelp
My favorite place of all of the time . Good coffee . Delicious bakeries nice view. Nice staff.

Alexis B.

Yelp
This Blue Bottle location is special. It's in Georgetown on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath - so if you sit outside, you have canal views. It's a wonderful location, and this Blue Bottle location has predictably good coffee and pastries/snacks. A great place for a cup of coffee if you're in the area!

Angela C.

Yelp
Service was quick, coffee shop was clean, and I didn't eat the pastries but I'm sure they are good! There were quite a few people there working. My only wish is to have more space but it's not a big deal. My matcha tea was hot and I loved the design! Thank you!

Ailun H.

Yelp
I always thought Blue Bottle was way too overrated - great coffee, but at a much too high price point. Lattes starts at $5.50. Flavored lattes can be $6-7, which would be about $8-9 after tax and tip which is a whole meal. I haven't been to Blue Bottle for 2+ years, but I was curious about their pour overs and their beans. I got the "Winter Blend" (tasting notes: dark chocolate, molasses, and blackberry preserves) pour over yesterday which had a lot of depth and was quite delicious. It definitely had strong chocolate after taste, and it was sweet and tasty every sip. Despite the really long lines, the barista did a great job making my pour over. I appreciate this a lot because most cafes tend to have lower quality pour overs when they're busy. Definitely worth $5.50 for a good pour over! I am considering buying these beans before they sell out...

Annalisa M.

Yelp
Great study spot with a bright atmosphere! Going to Blue Bottle this morning was such a treat. Their open concept and minimalistic design is so pretty. Feel free to grab coffee, hang out with friends, do some work, or enjoy a pastry. The staff is friendly, fun, and inviting. Plenty of seating options whether inside or outside, with a mix of tables, chairs, benches, and space. There is also a handicap-accessible and gender neutral bathroom inside. Food is yummy, especially the avocado toast, and the drinks are fine. Would definitely return!

Tatyana F.

Yelp
Very nice staff and fast service. Good coffee, cute little pastries. But if I may say something...Good hot chocolate is served with milk, not with water. It's made fresh, with actual chocolate, no some powder and store bought marshmallows. I don't think that tiny cup of "I can make this hot cocoa myself in my kitchen" was worth $6.

Kimi S.

Yelp
As a virtual worker, I often spend my time exploring coffee shops all across the city. The Georgetown scene is lacking in great coffee shops with a friendly vibe, strong wifi, and room for you to spread out your elbows a bit. With Blue Bottle Coffee all of my woes are gone! This handsomely built shop has great coffee, free and strong WiFi (no password needed), friendly service, plenty of seating (community and private), and sunlight belting through the windows (when you are a mobile worker, Vitamin D deficiency is a real thing). My new favorite menu item is their Hojicha latte which is a roasted, matcha with a deep, earthy flavor. Pair it with some oat milk and you've got yourself a warming winner! I am so glad that one of my favorite SF shops now has a home in DC!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
For the love of Mocha's!! Coffee truly done right! The place is clean. The staff happy. So many people on computers! An introverts happy place.

Pooja R.

Yelp
It's Coffee' O Clock somewhere Based on Georgetown, DC @bluebottle serves the richest and most flavorful coffee in DC area. Visited this place couple of weeks ago, tried their latte and New Orleans cold coffee, and to no surprise it was perfect. They don't have dine in started yet, only take out. Only thing I didn't like was the tip service, they outright ask for that which in my opinion isn't very comforting. Other than that, just sit at the waterfront and enjoy your coffee *__*

Meagan N.

Yelp
Great coffee. Super solid and in a great location. It's pretty busy and I can see why. I liked my shakerato a lot. Great aesthetic. I probably wouldn't study or do work here because it's quite crowded and can probably get loud. I wish they had more outdoor seating. But overall, I liked the coffee!
