Blue Boy Sandwich Shop delivers where it really counts: the sandwiches. The fresh baked bread is absolutely delicious and clearly made in-house, and the portions are HUGE. Each sandwich is loaded and filling, making it more than worth the price ($55. Included 2 fries and drinks) That said, be prepared to wait. Our order took about 30 minutes, so this is not the spot if you’re in a rush. Also, the fries were a letdown — they came out burnt and didn’t add much to the meal, the usual store bought crinkle cut fries… so I’d skip them. Overall, if you have time to spare, the fresh bread and massive sandwiches are well worth the wait. Just focus on the sandwiches and pass on the fries.BTW…we ordered the Cuban sandwich which was the typical style and the Puerto Rican tripleta… this thing was loaded with meat (Ham, onions, pastrami steak, Swiss cheese, ketchup, mayo and fries)

It's so sad to see a local legendary place go straight down the tube. I hadn't been to Blue Boys in about 6 years. I absolutely loved this place and would drive across town to eat there. First thing I noticed was the parking lot was empty in the middle of lunch hour. Extremely odd after having stood in line behind a couple dozen people, every time, in the past. I ordered my favorite sandwich, the steak. $16.00 for just a sandwich. Being the only customer in the restaurant, I waited 35 mins to get my sandwich while I watched the only 2 people in the kitchen, doing everything but no sandwich making my sandwich. I mean come on, you can see the kitchen and grill from the dining room. I was definitely not top priority. Questionable, but no big deal. I thought, it's going to be worth the wait and I couldn't have been more wrong. The sandwich is still on the same huge bun, a big square, but had 2/3 less than half of the steak and onions they used to put on them. I had to take the steak off of half of it, to put it on the other half just to make a proper sandwich (meat to bread ratio). It was truly disappointing. Back in the day you couldn't even turn a Big Boy over on its side, like in this picture. Hell, it was hard to even pick one up, most people used forks. Remember you're seeing the middle of the sandwich. The ends were ONLY bread. I thought I might have caught them on a bad day, but after reading the reviews, it seems like this is the census of most past customers that know how awesome this place used to be, and what trash it is now. Needless to say, I'm yet another previous regular customer that won't be coming back

It was my first time having the blue boy experience on the 26th of September. I ordered two sandwiches, the Cuban and the Philly Steak. Both were worth every bite. Nicely sized sandwiches with the softest bread. I enjoyed it so much, I went in the following day, so I could bring one home to share with my wife (which was the Puerto Rican Tripleta). Reasonable prices, Amazing sandwiches, and Friendly service. Oh, and there is the option to order ahead if you in a time crunch… so convenience is added to this establishment being a must visit. I will be a returning customer.

They're still putting their foot it in at Blue Boys. Bread is delicious, sandwiches are huge, and I appreciate the combo options. Happy to see them trucking along after the ownership switched.

First time customer and we will be back for both breakfast AND lunch. I had the cheeseburger, REAL hand formed patty, chopped onions and lettuce, on a GORGEOUS homemade bun. My husband had a chicken Philly and he couldn’t stop raving about it. Patrick, the owner, is so dedicated to his business and his customers, seeking to provide no preservative fresh bread, quality ingredients and a good value. He nails it. Help him become THE JACKSONVILLE SANDWICH SHOP.

Fortunately me and my friend went in here yesterday and we were the only customers there. This was maybe 45 minutes before they were going to be closing. Anyway. We were treated as if we was just family coming over to eat. So nice! Great conversation with the owner and his staff. It was just all in all amazing. He was very thankful for us coming into the shop and getting a sandwich. He probably thanked us more than three times. I made mention to him that it had been almost 40 years since I'd been to Blue boy and had a sandwich because that's how long it's been since I've had beef and the last time I went there I actually bought a burger so yeah it was a it was an experience a great experience at that

This place has been a true staple for me and my kids for years! The food never misses, the bread is always fresh, the meats are seasoned perfectly, and they never skimp on toppings. My boys love the Monster Burger so much they ask for it instead of a birthday cake lol that’s how you know it’s real love! ❤️ It’s rare to find a spot that stays this consistent over time, but this one absolutely does. Great food, great people, and always hits the spot. Thank you for keeping that same quality all these years!

Stopped by this weekend. Ms. Karen took great care in getting our food out hot and fresh. Been eating here for many years and so happy to be able to come grab a steak sub or a cheeseburger sub. Love blue boys. Get the cherry limeade!!!!

BLT delicious yet could benefit from more BLT because of the amount of bread. BBLT(bread bacon lettuce and tomato)!! It varies who makes it.

The place looks a little shady and the service is odd. But the sandwiches are so good. And huge. Definitely try it.

I used to love Blue Boys. The sandwiches were yummy and a good value. I know it's been 4 years since I've been there, but damn it shouldn't have changed that much. This is my last time eating here, I know it's been open since 1962, but when it costs $100 to feed 4 people sandwiches, it's time to close the doors. Next time I'll go get steaks. It will be cheaper. It's not just the cost, mind you the sandwiches just aren't what they were 4 years ago either. Does this place have new owners or what? I know not too many people in that area can afford $23 for half a sandwich that used to cost $14 whole. Service was so slow, not a soul there when we arrived, and still waited almost 45 min for cold cut sandwiches.

OMG these sandwiches are off the chain big and delish. I ordered the chicken salad round with lettuce tomato and whatever else they put on it. Good gosh was it huge and delicious. There is a wall of fame for all the big boys that have eaten their weight in subs and burgers. The seating area is adequate for sitting down and pigging on your behemoth meal. If you get a round and have a friend, think about getting one and spitting it, unless you're saving it for dinner. Service was amazing with the ladies up front having this whole ordering and feeding hungry folks down to a science. I came during a past lunch time hour, so I would advise to call your order in if you're ordering for lunch because I can only imagine this place is slammed. Definitely needs more than 5 stars

$17 for an extra small burger is stupid...changed over the years will not ever be back...just lettuce no meat

BEST sandwiches we've ever had! My husband and I were leaving the Jacksonville zoo and looking for a place to eat with good sandwiches. We came upon this place and boy were we happy! I think the bread is fresh baked. It was so soft and delicious. The amount of meat in my husband's sandwich was unbelievable, and I had the chicken salad, which was super delicious and not too much mayonnaise which is what I like. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the best sandwich ever!

I was in the area for work today and decided to try this place out. Everything is made fresh and to order. I had the angus brisket cheeseburger with added hot peppers and it was great. It came with fries and a drink. Honest service and fast but tasty. Great neighborhood place.

This was the first time going to this place that's been around a long time. The food was fantastic. The #8 was exactly what they said. Tasted great. I can't wait to go back and try more. You better not be in a hurry though. They warn you so you can't be upset about it. Ha

Ahhh maze zing!! Absolutely the biggest best sammy I've ever had!!!! We were looking for a unique sandwich shop and were not disappointed!! Only thing to note is that one sandwich can easily feed a family of four!! And parking is one way in one way out.

When they say big....they mean BIG! I wasn't expecting too much with the homemade bread, but it was the freshest yeast bread I've ever had. The sandwich is worth the price and I will definitely be back. The #9 steak sub was a lot smaller than the Reuben sub which was annoying, but both tasted fantastic. It also looked like they were made earlier even though I ordered it for pick up at 11. Otherwise, the experience was great and I am so happy I ordered ahead (super busy around lunch time). The store was also pretty clean and organized and the staff were welcoming without being overly friendly.

I got the chicken bacon ranch sub and it was delicious! I chose to have my chicken fried and it was Crispy and juicy. They didn't go skimpy on the bacon and had the right amount of lettuce and tomato. The fries were fress byt could do with a little more seasoning. Be aware if they are busy you will have to wait a bit but they have a seating area and it is totally worth it. Will definitely stop by again.

A Jacksonville tradition with homemade bread, large portions and diverse selection. So yummy!

This place is a classic! OG sub shop first opening in 1973. Their subs and sandwiches are loaded, they don't skimp on meat of fix'ns either. Bonus: they bake all their own breads daily. They've been voted Ajax's best sandwich shop and I 100% agree. Today I brought my friends to celebrate National Sub day and to introduce them to my latest "discovery". We had the LA, a Roast Beef with the works, and a Steak and Cheese. The sandwiches were massive. Both thought they could only eat half but both ended up eating the entire thing because it was so good they did t want to stop. (I need to get better at food posing for sure)

i've been coming to blue boys since the middle 70s. the sandwiches have always been huge and delicious till the last couple of months. i've been three times over the last few months and the sandwiches just aren't as good. I typically get a cold cut submarine. it's always been filled with all types of meat, just almost too much to eat. Today I went by and again ordered the submarine and it was terrible. Doesn't have half the meat that it used to and for some reason the bread is different. Hate to see it .

Pretty good size sandwich for the price, but it was the fresh bread that gave it the personal touch. If I had the stomach for it, I would LOVE to try the monster burger. The inside was small, but.seating was available. They were pretty quick with the order especially when you order ahead. We will be back soon!

Delish, MASSIVE sandwiches. Their bread is fresh baked and amazing. Secret- the mini club isn't actually mini The fries are fresh and fluffy and amazing. There are not a ton of quality local owned restaurants on this side of town but Blue Boy definitely does not disappoint!

The fried chicken sandwich was very large, but super greasy. Would try again, but grilled chicken or one of their deli sandwich options.

BlueBoy's is not what it used to be. I remember going there in the 1990's and it doesn't seem to taste the same. But what I really don't like is how much the prices have gone up. If you look at the prices from 11 years ago from the menus people have uploaded, you will see they are double the price now. It used to be a good value but I don't feel that way about them anymore, sadly. I heard they are under different management than from a few years ago.

A giant and delicious sandwich for a great price. I had one of the breakfast sandwiches and it was amazing. My bf had the club I believe and it was amazing as well.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY HERE If you have a 3+ hour lunch break, then try at your own risk. I walked in, the place wasn't busy and still waited over an hour for a lousy sandwich. Never again.

Well I think Blueboys sandwich shop has officially retired. Ok went again to try it and hoping the last time was as fluke. Guess not. The food was not as good as it used to be. Flavor different than Blueboys in the past. New people in there that I've never seen. It has been a while though. Sad to see so many hometown sandwich shops close over the years.

The sandwiches are huge. If you get one, make sure you make 3 friends to share it with. I highly recommend the cherry lemonade. I'd post a picture, but I ate half of it and can move, I'm so full.

The food wasn't the issue. The customer service was awful. There was tomato's on my sandwich i ordered no tomatoes. We ordered very slow & she still had questions about what should be on the sandwhich & made it complicated. The older lady with pink hair didn't explain anything to us after we told her it was our first time there. She failed to mention that the sandwich is in 4 cut up pieces like a pizza. She also told us they had lemonade when they had cherry limeade in the lemonade dispenser at 2:00 & complained they were about to close. Our bill was 42 dollars for a sandwhich for me & my boyfriend, us solely expecting a normal sandwich. We weren't educated at all about whats special & different about Blue Boy & the concept of sandwich in "rounds." My turkey sandwich was good except for the turkey was microwaved. The bread is phenomenol but I just paid 40 for 2 sandwiches with no drink & way too much sandwiches.

Blue Boys has always been good and very popular in Jax. They are famous for the "size" of their sandwiches. The sandwiches have great flavor. But, the bread/meat ratio is way off. Too much bread and not enough meat for sure. Next time, I will order a little extra meat, even if I have to pay for it. This sandwich was divided by three people.

I went in towards the end of the day, and seems like a nice restaurant. The sandwich was pretty good. For sandwich shop the look nothing special about the store but the food was pretty good as well as the service.

Sandwiches were HUGE! Bread was fresh! Highly recommend the Onion rings. Customer service was great! We just wished the dinining room area was opened.

Thanks Yelp. This place did not disappoint. We were in for a late lunch or early dinner, around 3:30. Service was fast and friendly at that time of day. We loved our sandwiches. I had the smoked turkey, ham and cheese. I got the sub. It's huge. The bread is homemade and square (not your usual sub roll). They load it up with meat, cheese, and veggies. The onions and lettuce were sliced thin, the way I like it. I was fully satisfied eating only half of the sandwich. Because it was so early, I ate a little more in the evening and then finished it for lunch the next day. This is economical. The wife had the pizza burger sub. She's had that many times in one of our favorite Italian haunts back in Ohio, considering it to be the standard. She was impressed. I managed to get a bite and can vouch. Prices are reasonable, and when you consider the portion size, they're great. Seating is basic, drinks are simple but good and the condiment station is loaded with just about anything you could want to add, except maybe some vinegar (honestly didn't look too hard). This is a great sandwich shop that deserves the Yelp love that it gets. Highly recommended!

They really dropped the ball today. I was over charged and waited more than 45 minutes to get my order. The manager did refund tree over charge and tried to make things right, but someone really screwed this up. Luckily we only found a couple hairs in there food, but that's bait the real complaint. The food is always great. But unfortunately we probably won't be coming back. This shows how one bad experience with multiple bad employees can ruin a business.

This is a true gem!!!! From The customer service to the food!!! Everything is everything here!!! My husband and I shared a pastrami sandwich... can't tell you how many times we said..."damn"... ummm... umm ummm and whooo! We will be back!

So disappointed! I've heard so much about this local legend and I finally got to stop by on a sleepy Saturday afternoon. I was ignored for quite a while trying to order, but finally did and all was well, I thought. Got my drink, with the good ice, and went to wait...and wait...and... After checking, I was told they were waiting on fresh fries. Cool! I love fresh fries, so I went to wait...and wait...and... Finally, I went back out to the empty front to check again, and was told they were waiting on...fries! I told the cashier I had to get back to work, and could I please get a refund? I was told no, because there was a sign that said orders could take 20-40 minutes at busy times and no refunds would be given for wait time. So, after an HOUR of waiting on a slow Saturday I left without any food, or a refund (until my bank handles it). I'm sure this was an off day, but geez, I definitely will never try to go again. People with places to be beware!

I don't know why people lose their minds over this place. We were driving by and my husband excitedly said, "Let's eat there. I've heard great things about it." We ordered and waited a long while for the food. We were ok with that since I guess that's standard. The food is big and the bread is unique. But other than that... meh. My burger was the quality of something you'd get at a convenience store or ballpark. The meatloaf sandwich was big and bland. So disappointing and definitely not worth going back to.

The place was clean but very slow i got a fish sandwich large but the bill was 20.00 dollars plus the tip and drink 26. Bucks wow " why"

Was really excited to try and I arrived around 3:20PM and they close at 4 and the way the lady threw her hands up in the air and says "yall are killing me" when we walked through the door just made my day what a way to be greeted!!!! She doesn't even say hello, how are you? just what do you want??? She was so concerned about how many people were coming through the door but walking back and forth but didn't want to help in the kitchen. Then I'm standing at the counter (Not in anyones way) she tells me I can take a seat.. I tell her no because I don't like the way the carpet smells in their sitting area and just rolls her eyes.. Customer service a 0/10. If I was that type of customer I would have really ruined her day. Being Kind goes a long way because you never know who your dealing with. I hope her managers and the grinch herself see this, so they can consider the type of people they have representing their company. SHE CHARGES CUSTOMERS FOR THINGS THEY DID NOT ORDER !!! *Pay attention to your receipt. The Food was good we enjoyed it, thank you to the other two woman who were sweet and helped us.

Haven't eaten here in about 2-3 years due to very slow service in the past. Decided to give them a try so I called ahead to order and pick up. I ordered 2 bacon cheeseburger round combos. Food was ready when I arrived, hot, fresh and flavor was spot on! My only complaint was the portion was significantly smaller that what it used to be and a bit pricey for what you get. This isn't the Blueboys I once knew, looked more like a Whopper from BK. Just to clarify FOOD IS GREAT!

Great sandwiches, you will not leave unfilled after eating here these are monsters. Only unfortunate issue here is the wait time getting one of these terrific sandwiches. The team is friendly inspire if the busy nature of the kitchen. Looks like this is also a favorite place for most of JAX law enforcement. This is the type of place for hardworking people to get a great lunch.

It has its normal amount of good sandwiches there prices has changed over the years because of the economy and owner differences from the original good food and all but cashier needs to change attitude when it comes to a problem with the tea.

Absolutely delicious deli sandwiches that are massive! The area is off the beaten path, and for non-locals may be in an area that is concerning. But it's really not bad... and you aren't hanging out long anyway. The food is made quickly, and it's delicious! Def worth a try to support a local restaurant that isn't a chain.

GOOD, on the good days. Not so good, on the bad days. The sandwiches are huge and taste delicious, however multiple I've noticed an inconsistency in taste depending on who the cook is for the day.

I got the big daddy from blue boys and it was good! It was a humongous sandwich. It's like they used a whole loaf of bread and cut it in half as the bun. The fries were unseasoned and I had to add salt and pepper to it. The only thing about the burger was it lacked some type of sauce. The beef patties were juicy and the cheese were deliciously melted but it still needed something probably ketchup+mayo mixture or some type of sauce. I honestly would give them a 3.5/5 but you can't rate halve scores so I gave it a 3. I would most definitely come back again.

Casual atmosphere with amazing eats. This bustling hole in the wall type lunchery looks very unglamourous, but houses some of the best sammiches in Jax. I checked out the large menu and chose I got the pizziola sub which was different that any other sandwich I've ever had. My first reaction was that it wasn't anything like pizza or meatball subs, so didn't give me the savory satisfaction I was hoping for. However, when I heated up the leftovers and had adjusted my taste-pectations, it was really quite tasty. It has piles of red sauce, steak and mushrooms simply stacked to the brim. It's the size of about 4 regular subs, so split a meal or be prepared for leftovers. I tried my friend's turkey club and had a little food envy. The piles of fresh turkey, sweet and delicate break, mayo and tomatoes blended together into perfection. The fries were ok, but paled into comparison of the turkey club. At this joint, sandwiches are the main event. Bring an appetite!

I grew up eating Blue Boys and it was the best! Grew up around down street. My Granny used to look for change around the house to get a Blue Boys. Me and my cousins would walk to Blue Blues and get a #8 or a Western. Now, since the new owners , they must of changed to bread recipe because it is horrible. It taste cheap and flat. I sure was looking to eating a famous Blue Boys sandwich, but now I am so disappointed in their sandwiches, I won't be back. Change it back and we will come back!!!

GREAT local place. Been going there for years. If you want a great Sandwich, this is the place in Jax. Be prepared to be impressed. The neighborhood is a little rough but the sandwich's are Worth it!
