"Last week, the owners of Austin’s Blue Cat Cafe confirmed the closure of their business, Austin’s first and only cat cafe on 95 Navasota Street. The cafe, where cat lovers could drink coffee and play with or adopt cats, became a point of major gentrification contention in the East Austin area since it opened in October 2015. It officially closed in November 2018, but owners claim to be “reopening soon,” according to their Facebook page." - Nadia Chaudhury

"The first cat café to open in Austin, Blue Cat serves a vegan-focused menu along with a variety of coffee and tea beverages. Grab a bite and a drink and enjoy the free Wi-Fi while lounging and playing with friendly cats, the majority of which are available for adoption." - Rafiq el Arculli

This was a cool experience, the cats were hilarious and fun to play with. They seemed well taken care of and happy. The service was very slow (waited over :30 for a chai tea) but playing with the kittens was fun! Not a great place to study if you are easily distracted by cats.

Great place to go for lunch and hang out with socialized cats! We ending up adopting a cat from here and she's been wonderful. She warmed up really well and quickly to her new home and we love that she was very social and inviting to people. When we have friends over she's the first one to greet them and loves to be pet! We would adopt again from Blue Cat in a heartbeat!

This is a very hip place. There are cats roaming everywhere and they have the whole place decorated with cat play gyms. The whole point is to get these cats adopted which is a really cool idea. They have a food truck that serves healthy food.

We showed up to discover a sign on the door saying that there was a yoga class going on until 1 (no notice on the website) so we waited until then till about 1:30 only to have no response, nor anyone answer phone calls or a knock on the door. We came back around two, only to get an answer that they were understaffed and unopened for the day. Wish we could of checked this place out because it seems really neat! I’d make sure you come up with back up plans in case it doesn’t work out.

Ok, so 4 stars because if you love cats like me it's awesome to just go pet a by of them. However, the place opened up late (after 11am which is opening time) and I know from reviews it's happened before. Luckily we waited because someone else said something in their review. There wasn't any food because they are remodeling, but there was soda and coffee if needed. It was just a little unorganized so we didn't get anything. There's a $5 cover charge when you leave, which we were told about before we went in. Cats can be pet, but not held. I believe they are all declawed. Please please please, if you bring your kids don't let them shove cat toys into the cats face... some of the older cats aren't into playing, and kids need to be told to be gentle with then. Otherwise I believe this place is good for any age group. I was very happy to experience someone adopting one of them too so hopefully that kitty went to a good home:)

I read some harsh reviews but this place was nice. We didn't order food but enjoyed spending time with the cats. The cats were friendly but selective as cats are. My children especially loved this place. I liked that they had so many areas for the cats to feel comfortable. The $5 entrance fee is not a big deal.

I love this place. It's like the Mother Ship has called me home. It is exactly what it promises to be; a Cafe that serves Vegan options, a wacky and eclectic vibe, and -of course- cats! It's a kitschy spot that has cats to interact with and to adopt. It's worth the $5 admittance per person. In short, it's a place where the cats tolerate your existence. Total Catisfaction guaranteed! If you are in Austin, I recommend for sure.

Made the trip here from Fort Worth all because my daughter loves cats. It was all she expected to be. Its a great place to come and relax with cats. The menu is vegan and its delicious. Owners are amazing people.
