We love the Blue Corn Harvest in Cedar Park. When they opened a new location in Round Rock, we were super excited since it is closer to home for us. Unfortunately, the RR location just wasn't on par with the CP location. It wasn't bad, but it was 100% not the standard that we're accustomed to from their CP location. My pasta diablo looked absolutely amazing. Lots of color, just gorgeous. Unfortunately, the flavor fell extremely flat. It was bland and definitely not what I would consider spicy by any means. For a high calorie splurge, it was sadly disappointing.
My husband's pork enchiladas also looked beautiful, but the flavor was just so incredibly muted. Bland again.
We found out that it was kids eat free night, so that was a major plus. My son's kids' cheeseburger meal came with no toppings at all. We asked for lettuce and tomatoe for his cheeseburger. He enjoyed it. However, we were a bit surprised to see that we were charged $4 for these basic burger toppings for a child. When we asked the waitress if that was right, she said she that she had also been surprised with how they had her ring it in and she had questioned it already, but they had told her that was the price. However, she said she would ask about it again, just in case.
When she asked her management, he took off the $4. I'm not clear on whether it was a nicety or whether management felt it shouldn't be charged at all or what happened. Regardless, we appreciated it.
In the future, I suppose we would need to ask, which is awkward. I do feel up to $2 would be a reasonable amount to add those to a kids' meal. Maybe we've been lucky, but we've never been upcharged for lettuce and tomato for his kids' cheeseburger at any full service restaurant before. My son's favorite food is a cheeseburger w lettuce and tomato, so we have dozens of data points and I guess we just didn't expect a charge, but especially not one that was ~50% of a kids meals cost. Who knows? Maybe the additional charges were to help make up for the free kids' meals?
My daughter had a fried chicken salad, and it was both beautiful AND tasty. That meal was an excellent choice.
The absolute star of the meal was the peanut butter pie dessert. Everyone enjoyed it. Very rich and flavorful.
Will we come back to this location? Yes, we will. We know the capabilities of BCH, based on their CP location. My assumption is that this was a one-off night, a new chef, or a product of working out the kinks of a new location. Nothing we had was bad. 3 stars is average. With the kids' meals being free, it wasn't a bad value, despite the flavor issues. Our waitress was beyond fantastic, the restaurant was nicely decorated, and overall, it wasn't bad. The main reason that we will be back is that we know they can do better and fully expect that next time they will. We will just give them some more time first. They have an awesome happy hour menu, btw. Definitely worth checking them out.
