Where to Drink Margaritas That Give Back in Charlotte | Eater

"Walk into South End’s Blue Door — Charlotte’s latest, greatest secret — and you’ll be greeted in a moody vestibule, guided through the aforementioned blue door, and welcomed into this dark, intimate, time-warp of a bar. The illuminated backbar flatters the dialed-in cocktails with a glow, and a sleek grand piano sings in the corner against wavy blue wallpaper. Head bartender and creative director, Mike Guzmán, was recognized as one of the top bartenders globally in 2023. Sip Hot Peach Summer out of a coupe glass, with a jalapeno tincture and a roasted peach cordial, and you’ll get why. While it’s undoubtedly a drinks spot, the back room has a sweet private dining situation, too." - Kayleigh Ruller

Amazing place!!! The Chicago drink our bartender Jordan recommended was spot on and literally everything I love. My husband really enjoyed the drink he got, too! The complimentary truffle popcorn was such a nice touch, and Mike was awesome to chat with. We’re coming back this weekend. This place rocks! Oh! And on Wednesdays it’s basically half off drinks. So fabulous cocktails for $10, not bad at all. Highly highly recommend. The ambiance was very nice, too!

Our first time here, it's been on our list of places to try for a few months. We made reservations early because we don't like crowds and we like chatting with the Bartenders and other guest. The menu has many cocktails to choose from, each drink representing a US city. It's presented as a guide book, with details about each city. What a fun conversation aspect. The cocktails were amazing and so creative, love the little touches of the side of corn nuts on one of the drinks. They don't serve food, but they bring you a bowl of truffle popcorn. No outside food allowed, but there are plenty of restaurants in the area that are walkable. Great vibe for a date night or just hanging with friends. Thanks Mike, Chase and Jordan for the lovely experience 💙

Oh what fun it is to have some cocktails at the Blue Door. I have been seeing this spot pop up on the socials recently and had the chance to check it out tonight. Speakeasy vibes and an old school Michelin inspired road trip menu taking to you a world of delicious cocktails. The bar staff we interacted with were both incredibly helpful and friendly. They were interested in what we were looking for and friendly enough to make conversation with. Beautiful spot with incredible cocktails. I want to taste my way through the whole menu!

We stopped by for our first visit early on a Saturday. We made reservations. Chase was helpful explaining how the menu works. I picked Pittsburgh for my cocktail. The popcorn did not disappoint. Very chill place.

I love Blue Door. The drinks are excellent. As a Mai Tai and Tiki Drink aficionado, I cannot recommend the San Francisco/Oakland enough, it’s fantastic. I loved my birthday at Blue Door.

Enter through a solid blue door, and out stretch your imagination to a road trip of the US through uniquely crafted cocktails based on major US cities and their own personalities. Small and quaint little establishment, dimly lite with soft tones of blue and then striking red bathrooms! Service was attentive. Seating is booth + smaller accommodation seats. Cocktail list is based on their own take of regional qualities and personalities, such as Green Bay, New Orleans, Charlotte, Miami, ect. Prices are very reasonable, and the Cocktails were crafted nicely. There were no strong smashes of alcohol to the pallet, but each drank how they were expressed in the menu.

We took a trip to the magical Blue Door to celebrate my husband's birthday. What a gem. When we walked it - it reminded us of the private speakeasies of the 50s. From the security to the young women at the door it was already a step above. One woman checked out names in - and the other young woman hung our coats. We were then led through the magic blue door to the bar. It was my husband's birthday and they handed him a card and we were greeted with two glasses of crisp champagne. After a quick trip to the spotless and very cool restrooms we were given a tour of the menu by Michael. We love bespoke cocktails but the menu was literally a trip to some iconic cities around the US. I ordered the Denver, Co and my husband ordered New Orleans - both were delicious! We loved how the menu told a story - and we enjoyed paying through remembering trips we took to cities across the country. The service was amazing with all the bartenders being attentive. Each making us a round of drinks. We ended our night with an Italian liqueur which was a nice way to cap the evening off. Today I received an email to thank us for our patronage. The small touches really impressed us. This beautiful little bar shows care and attention is given to the details and hospitality is provided to the highest standards. We want to thank Michael and the entire staff for giving us a really special experience to celebrate my husband's birthday! We cannot wait to visit you all again!

Yelp
There is no bar that brings me the happiness that Blue Door does. The intimacy in South End is rare in itself, but the cherry on top is the staff interaction. From the host to management, every single person on this staff is amazing and provides the family establishment feel within a high end establishment. The decor, layout and flow of the bar will teleport you from its busy Charlotte location. I haven't had a drink I didn't love, but they have a "no sweat it" return policy if you don't like something. That's pretty amazing. I highly recommend the Charleston or let the staff surprise you with a craving of your own. Biggest takeaway - ask for Cam. Whether it's a hello with some good banter, full blown service experience, or the pleasure of having a Cam-special made cocktail... you won't regret it.

Yelp
Loved this spot! With its proximity to other, rowdier bars, this was a welcome step away from the commotion. It felt elevated, though somewhat cold and dark, like a little cave getaway from South End. The menu is cool and I genuinely wanted to read through it. We had a few hiccups in which pages were missing, out of order or stapled poorly. But finally found good ones! Each drink is a city, and they give little blurbs about the cocktail and the city. Felt old, classic and cute. We chose 2 drinks and munched on popcorn (complimentary) and really enjoyed! I assume you could also order something you like that's not on the menu. Our cocktails were impeccable. Absolutely loved. It's definitely pricey, though we went on a Wednesday, and all cocktails were $10. Pro tip! We also were able to find parking - as it was just for a drink and a walk around - but beware as you may have to pay and it unfortunately feels a little far from the light rail (don't drink and drive!!). They immediately asked what we were celebrating and if we had a reservation when we arrived - felt a little weird - though it was not an issue that we had not made a resy. On higher traffic nights I'd definitely take a look at making one! Would definitely be back, though probably again on a Wednesday or for a celebration - $18 per drink is a commitment.

Yelp
Drinks were delicious! The truffle popcorn bowl that they give to each table was also amazing (and I typically am not a huge fan of truffle!). Very intimate setting, the wallpaper and decor is cool. I really liked the vibe of the place, however it is too crammed. The chairs are too bulky for the space, where it feels like you're on top of the table next to you. With only 4 tables and a few bar stools occupied when we were there, it was veryyyy loud. Could hear bartenders and barback socializing with each other loudly as well. The menu is a cool concept but was not executed properly. Too much detail on each city itself and not enough about each drink. Going to a cocktail only bar, the drink should be described in a way that makes it jump out on the page and you have to order it because you can almost taste it or really want to taste it based on the description. I wish the menu was categorized by liquor as well. Drinks were priced well for a cocktail bar I will say that. I enjoyed trying it, but not sure I would return

Yelp
Cute and intimate bar. Wednesday special is $10 any cocktail on the menu which is unreal and should not be missed. Bartender Chase was so nice and helpful. Cocktails were delicious, and they even have some NA options.

Yelp
Blue door is located in the south end area & has such upscale vibes & serving up all the holiday cocktails/mocktails. It's the Perfect intimate hidden upscale lounge that's elevating the south end area ! I stopped by for a cocktail our drinks were good I'm not for sure if they serve food but it's the perfect spot for drinks ! I love how everything inside is blue & peep the ladies restroom when you go inside before leaving . Definitely Save Blue Door bar for your next date night or girls/guys night out

Yelp
VERY classy, cozy, and upscale bar in CLT. Even the bathroom is a page right out of a magazine. Reservations required and we got the last available option a week in advance on a Wednesday night at 9:30 PM, so plan ahead! Extremely unique cocktail menu. This is their current concept and I believe they change it up. I've never seen anything quite like it and it's amazing! Each cocktail is hand crafted to honor and tell a story about a major US city with high quality, flavorful, and specialty ingredients. Our bartender, Jordan, was wonderful! He was so friendly and helpful with recommendations, even suggesting where our next stop should be in town. Cannot recommend Blue Door enough - a must experience!

Yelp
This place closes at midnight unlike yelp, maps or online say. Was not open on Thursday night. We went twice, Thursday night and Saturday night and never got in. Hostess was very unaccomadating and we will never go back

Yelp
Be prepared to try some well made and intricate drinks! When I initially walked into Blue Door, I was surprised by how much of a speakeasy vibe it had. I liked that vibe and my initially expected 2 drinks quickly turned into 4 because of how well made they were! The menu alone is impressive and apparently it changes every now and then as well, which is a fun way to spend an evening discovering the new drinks they have concocted! The staff were pleasant and they definitely enjoy creating these drinks as well. They are knowledgeable on each cocktail and they were quick with recommendations when we were still questioning. Definitely a very cool spot to hangout with friends and talk about life, would recommend to any drink enthusiast!

Yelp
The cocktail menu was unique and all the ones I tried were some of the better cocktails I've had in Charlotte. The bartender was also knowledgeable and I had great service!

Yelp
Outstanding & fun concept for cocktails! Delicious and innovative ingredients in each & so diverse! Unique presentations, along with a bit of history and intrigue! Our group of 6 tried (and yes, we did share!) almost every one! We so enjoyed our terrific server, Cam, as she provided detailed explanations and answered all our questions with a smile! Make a reservation and go for the overall experience! A+
