5 Hip Local-Approved Thai Restaurants in Bangkok

"It might be better known for its cooking classes and packaged Thai curry pastes, but the Michelin Plate restaurant, housed in a stately historic building with classic colonial-style furnishings, is a secret favorite of Thai nobility and their international guests. To ensure the freshest flavors, the chef sources the best local ingredients such as free-range chicken and rice field catfish as well as imported meats like Australian lamb. The complex flavors of traditional Thai cuisine truly shine through in house specialties such as piquant grilled river prawns and mangosteen salad, crab curry with betel leaves and massaman lamb curry with purple sweet potato." - Karen Tee

My family and I had an excellent experience at Blue Elephant on 14 Sep for the dinner service. We had the Thai course and all the food was incredible, but especially the dessert. The staff sang a happy birthday song while playing the guitar to help celebrate my mom's birthday which made her really happy as well. Not to mention the flowers as a souvenir which was such a nice touch. Will definitely recommend and come back

Absolutely loved the experience at Blue Elephant Bangkok. We had the Chef’s Tasting Menu — 10 exquisite courses that were beautifully crafted and full of flavor. Each dish was presented with care, and the progression of the menu felt thoughtful and balanced. A big plus: all the chicken and meat is halal, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fine dining Thai experience in Bangkok.

I was interested because I sometimes bought the seasoning from this restaurant at the supermarket. Since they have various creative Thai dishes, I was quite confused about which one to choose. The taste is also different from normal Thai cuisine. it's not too strong but has a delicacy to it. I recommend trying this if you want to experience a different kind of Thai food from what you usually get or if you're looking for a special dish for a special occasion.

While I prefer their main outlet in Sathorn, this branch offers a more concise menu while staying true to some core principles. Here, the focus is on their thoughtfully crafted tasting menu, as the à la carte selection is quite limited. I appreciate the chefs' dedication to elevating the Thai dining experience through creative fusion techniques that truly highlight the quality of each fresh and flavorful ingredient. The service is also exceptionally friendly and approachable, a common trait in Thai restaurants at this level. The team makes a genuine effort to engage with diners, especially in English, and their recommendations are insightful, clearly demonstrating their commitment to providing the best possible experience. Our meal included the My Tom Yum Koong, Hot Phuketian Mangrove Crab Curry, and Blue Elephant Ayutthaya River Prawn Phad Thai, all of which were very enjoyable.

We chose the Chef Recommendations Set Menu with the wine pairing, starting with two incredible and uniquely crafted cocktails from the restaurant’s menu. From the very first sip (and bite!), we knew we were in for something special. The menu was a masterpiece—each dish showcased outstanding culinary creativity, using the finest ingredients while staying true to authentic Thai flavors. The entire experience was absolutely flawless. The stunning ambiance, the impeccable and genuinely warm service, the phenomenal food, the expertly crafted cocktails, and the perfectly paired wines all came together to create a magical evening. The value for money is simply incredible. We cannot wait to return, and we wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bangkok who loves exceptional food and an unforgettable dining experience. A must-visit!

I had a fantastic dinner at blue eleohant. The curry with crab was delicious. rich, spicy, and full of flavor. The real highlight, though, was the service. Our waitress Nun was incredibly friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations and making us feel right at home. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Absolutely crazy delicious variety of specialty food. If you have the chance, please opt for the Chef's Tasting Menu. Each item was a new experience for me, from liver to blue crab. The staff was so sweet and would explain each item, how it was prepped, and where it came from. The drinks were delicious, too. They treated us to a dessert platter in honor of our marriage, too! Such a fun experience, please go!

The first time I visited. It was after a long day, mostly standing on my feet. Spotted the restaurant and went without a reservation. The service was impeccable and the food was wonderful. Next it was the Blue Elephant in Phuket that served a wonderful meal despite a power outage. So I returned to the Bangkok restaurant recently with high hopes. The server was impatient- I was slow in choosing my options in the Chef’s Special as I was reading the options and preparation methods. “Just choose pork or beef” I was told. Oohhh sorry for wanting a nice plate! The food had seemed to change to cater to tourists. Thai soup which is usually served together with the main meal was served Western style as its own course. The mains was just one big plate ( I recall having it served in a Thai styled raised platter) with the fish overly salty and the lamb mamasan curry overly sweet. The only saving grace was the dessert plate. My spouse had booke a table as he wanted to give me a nice dinner outing. Sadly, I think there are better places.
