A 24-Hour Food Tour Across Southern Vancouver Island | Eater Seattle

"I loved the 90s coffeehouse nostalgia at the Blue Fox Cafe, where bright art and a fun brunch vibe accompany classic neighborhood dishes; the eggs Benedict is perfection, and the Oranges del Sol pancakes or French toast—topped with triple sec and roasted pecans—offer a more unusual option. Note: the Blue Fox is closed Wednesdays." - Sabra Boyd

Food is simply amazing. Usually come to brunch places with just ok expectations, but Blue Fox changed our brunch game. Love their egg bennies’ hollandaise sauce, not that sour but tasty and umami. the chicken pesto sandwich is lovely, accompanied with a good bite of portobello mushrooms

We came to Victoria for a weekend getaway and I planned ahead for places to eat. The Blue Fox cafe was one I was looking forward to for breakfast. We were able to easily walk to the restaurant from our hotel and I was surprised to not see a line outside, based on what I had read. There were only a couple of others in front of us and our wait was short. The inside is not a large space, but it is cozy and the atmosphere was great and has a nice personal feel. Our server was very friendly and our order taken promptly. Our food was delicious and portions large. Honestly, looking around I didn’t see a dish that I would not have wanted to try. As we ate, I noticed that the line outside had grown significantly, and I saw why many reviews mention a wait. I could see it being 30 minutes, easily. We hit it at the right time, luckily. I would definitely return if I visit Victoria again.

A few weeks ago, I came to Victoria to join a race and wanted to try a brunch place while I was there. Blue Fox Café seems like a really popular spot, we waited for around an hour, and the line didn’t stop even as it got close to closing time. The portions are massive, and the menu is quite varied. I’d definitely recommend sharing, as I can’t imagine finishing anything on my own (we took the pancakes to go for a pre-race breakfast). They also have a pretty quirky drink menu, with options like chili hot chocolate and hot cider. I really enjoyed my dirty chai, nicely spiced without being too sweet. Overall, recommended if you are in Victoria! Just come prepared to wait for a table. Oranges del Sol ($22) Two griddle cakes (massive, thick pancakes - I’m pretty sure they used buttermilk) with oranges, pecans, vanilla bean cream, and orange blossom syrup. As a sweet tooth, this was my favorite! The pancakes were super fluffy, and the orange added a refreshing twist. I also loved the orange blossom syrup and they even gave us extra at no extra charges for the leftovers. Chorizo & Eggs ($21) Eggs with spicy chorizo and tomato purée, served alongside toast and jam. A solid dish; the chorizo added a nice kick, though the egg texture felt a bit off to me. I think potatoes would have paired better than the toast. My main complaint was that the dish was served cold. Moroccan Chicken Benny ($24) This benny was served on a bagel instead of the traditional English muffin. The portions were generous, and the chicken was tender, though the overall taste was a bit on the sweet side (probably from the apple chutney or Moroccan spice). Still, one of the better Bennies I’ve had… their hollandaise was quite good.

Google
Gluten free Blackstone Eggs Benny was delicious! Presentation beautiful. Eggs cooked perfectly. The lemon parm salad on the side was so good and nice alternative to traditional potatoes.

Food was good. Service gave me a feeling we were discriminated. It was our first time at the cafe yet we did not expreience a warm greeting. We realized there was a sign saying how to line up. 2 groups ahead of us went inside, 1 was at the doorway for a while so we thought that was how the line goes. So when we went in, we did how the one before us did but then we were called out and led to wait outside to keep that area. Our server was nice, but the lady who led us outside who seated us was cold. So yeah we are all paying customers, we atleast expect same treatment...not discriminating based on color and choosing who to call out.

Vanessa R.

Google
We ordered the avocado toast, the margherita omelette, and the double stack griddle cakes. Everything was great. The pancakes were incredibly fluffy, and the homemade maple peach jam on the toast was delicious. The service was excellent, super attentive and friendly. I’m really glad we came here. There is a bit of a wait, but it’s totally worth it, not just for the food, but for how well they treat you too.

I went to Blue Fox Cafe in Victoria for breakfast September 9, 2025. I got lucky as it is a Tuesday and I got a table right away. But the place got quickly full, soon after. I had the ‘Special coffee of the day’ and Fox’s Grill (see photo). You get free regular coffee refill with any Coffee order. Coffee was great, so was the Fox’s Grill (generous serving). It is not a breakfast one can/should do on a regular basis but for a special occasion, for sure. If I had to suggest anything, it would be if they offered a ‘senior’ portion of Fox’s Grill. The service was superb and they were right there to top up your coffee and your water. I definitely recommend Blue Fox Cafe to anyone visiting Victoria. Keep up the great work. I was back in Victoria and so tried Blue Fox cafe again on October 9, 2025. This time I tried their Morocco Chicken quesadilla. Level of spiciness was perfect and portion was ample. Only thing it was too greasy. I recommend making it less greasy. Otherwise, very tasty.

Stopped for a bite-our kids always take us to the most awesome places!!I had fresh fruit and a side of potatoes as I was not very hungry, and it was so pretty and the potatoes were SO good!

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! So was the coffee. The servers were wonderful and I personally loved the atmosphere. It was crowded and small, so if that gets to you then it's probably not the best place for you. But I personally liked that. I certainly recommend!
google avatar

Todd U.

Yelp
This place sucks when it comes to bigger parties, I would suggest coming here with four people max! This restaurant cannot seat more than four in a timely manner. We came here with seven people as this place was highly recommended to us. We waited almost three hours just to sit down! Normally I would have left after an hour, but my party insisted we wait. I ordered chorizo eggs Benedict and this was worth the wait! Okay, all the food we ordered was worth the wait! We did not leave this place disappointed!

Yelp
Warm, cozy, casual atmosphere with delicious breakfast and lunch items and great service. The Moroccan chicken benny is unique and a delightful blend of spice, sweetness, and savory flavors. The eggs were poached perfectly. One of the best benedicts I've ever had and so glad I ordered it. The island eggs had many classic breakfast items that was nicely prepared consisting of 2 large local farm fresh eggs any style, seasoned panfried potatoes, hot buttered toast, house-made fresh fruit jam, and your choice of pork sausage, bacon, house stewed beans, or avocado. The hot butter toast with the house-made peach cardamom jam was delicious. Would definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Cute little place. Highly recommended for breakfast. Service was good. You pay your bill at check out desk once you're done. Glad we decided to give it a try during our visit to Victoria (for the first time, and definitely won't be our last). My husband and I shared the ohana french toast. Mind you, we are foodies and we usually get our own plates wherever we go. However, Blue Fox offers very generous portions and this one plate was good for two. It comes with a side of maple stripe but please do NOT add more maple syrup unless you try it first. It already has a lot of maple syrup in my opinion and doesn't need any more sweetness.

Yelp
So happy to be reacquainted with the beauty and bountifulness of that cornucopia of deliciousness - The Blue Fox! (I can only find a red fox emoji ) . My favorite dish is the classic eggs Benedict and side salad. Yes. I pine for that benny. One could say I've developed a long-term long-distance relationship with a menu item. Let them talk about this unusual love affair! They don't know how special dear 'Benny' is. It is definitely a one-way relationship because I'm the only one who gets anything out of it. Sure, it has been around 8 years since I I've had it. But we are making it work ...The eggs Benedict and mixed green salad were beyond delish. I'm a fan of a benny on a bagel and this place delivers. The love story continues...

Yelp
Review Template === 1. VERDICT/VALUE THE best brunch place in town? Blue Fox has our vote based on food quality, service, and price - very reasonably-priced even when compared to others in the area (e.g. Cora, Shine, etc.) - so while the menu isn't as kid-friendly as the competition, they do really well for the kids at heart! === 2. FOOD Fox's Grill ($22) The choice for the undecided or those with more of an appetite: three eggs your way, two big sausages, three crisply good-sized links of bacon, fresh-cut homestyle potatoes, two slices of your choice of toast (note: the jam is handmade daily - so your choice is just whatever they made that day), with fresh whole mushrooms and slices of tomato to boot. Margherita Omelette ($19) An all-veg omelette with two slices of your choice of toast that can come with pastries, salad or fruit too - great healthy option! Pancakes Perhaps the only let down: if you have small children, there is no kids' menu. You can get a half order on things, but it's not half the price. We typically do the double stack of pancakes ($16), half-order (so one pancake...where they simply deduct $3.50). It comes with powdered sugar, cinnamon, maple syrup and optionally, chocolate syrup - and it's a very large, fluffy pancake, but it's a steep price to pay! === 3. SERVICE Despite the fact they seem constantly busy from even before their doors open, the service is always professional, with a smile, and as fast as they seemingly can go. === 4. ENVIRONMENT They did a bit of a facelift indoors in January 2024; it's an older-looking decor that clean and tidy - able to fit groups of maybe up to 6 - it's best to keep your group smaller. The wait on the sidewalk outside can be extensive, so get there just before opening time if you can.The windows along the streetfront let in a lot of natural light. Wheelchairs and baby strollers are tightly squeezed here. Parking is all metered on the street, but if you walk further down Fort Street, there is some free street side parking.

Yelp
Our favorite breakfast of our trip! The pancakes were moist and fluffy. The caramel coffee was made with real caramel. The French toast was delicious.

Yelp
Food and service, 5 stars all around. The line does NOT move fast. So many reviews said it moves fast. We were under the Law sign to start and it took us 50 min to get in at 11:15 on a Sunday. Service was prompt, helpful, and wait once inside was hardly noticeable. The portions are generous, the salmon was least over cooked here than I had at the Fairmont or in Vancouver, and the pancakes were perfect. The hot chocolate (with oat milk for me) was decent but heavily buried in whip cream almost 2" into my cup. The Mayan coffee was a good mix of flavors and almost too sweet for my honey's taste, but not quite. The chorizo was especially unique and he loved every bite. If you're two people traveling, save yourself and split two plates if you want a sweet and savory. Would definitely return.

Yelp
Unique and fun breakfast place in Victoria. Food is a fun combination of Canadian classics with Mexican influence. Portions are very generous and definitely filling! I got the Migas & Amigos and was very satisfied with my meal. There were multiple options I was interested in, so I'd love to return to try them. Only downside is the lengthy wait, which I waited in for ~45 minutes for 2 people. However, if you're not in a rush, I'd say it's worth the wait!
google avatar

Nadia J.

Yelp
Though the line was long, the wait time flew by, and it helped to build the appetite one would need for these portion sizes. I ordered the Soho Rose mimosa (perfect if you enjoy floral flavors), and the Portobello Benny. It was so yummy but I was stuffed and wish I had shared with someone else at my table. This is a standard choice for brunch in Victoria and had an overall good vibe.

Yelp
Awesome service! Awesome food! We'll definitely be back when we visit Victoria next time!

Yelp
Food awesome, long wait but worth it. Had eggs benedict chicken Benny .... coffee is wonderful.

Yelp
Excellent service! Just abit of waiting for the table. Otherwise, it was worth the wait.

Yelp
This place was SO good. When we showed up on a Monday morning there was a bit of a line in front of the restaurant, but we were assured the line moved quickly and they were right. We were quickly seated and both decided to order some coffee. It was perfect and super affordable. My husband ordered the Eggs Delmonico, which was basically their take on a salmon benny, and I ordered the Salish Salmon omelette. With both they give you the option of a side salad or breakfast fries and we both ordered the fries. Once I got my plate, I realized I should've gone with the salad, as the portions were plentiful and I was quickly filled up. My portion also came with toast with the house made jam, which was SO incredible I couldn't stop eating it. The fries made for an excellent snack later on in the day, however, as we did take them to go. :) my husband and I both loved the crispy fried capers on each of our dishes, as it complemented the sauce and salmon so well. Highly recommend coming here on your search for a yummy breakfast in Victoria!

Yelp
We first came here for breakfast with friends and, wow, the coffee and food is so amazing that we came back for our last breakfast in Victoria! We were fortunate to be seated quickly both times as the place is so popular that both times a line had formed outside before we left. We both ordered something different each time we were there. The first time I chose the Island Eggs from the Classic Breakfast menu, and Hubby ordered the Fox's Grill. Our friends both raved over the Salish Salmon Omelette, so I ordered it the second time, while Hubby had The Breakfast Club Sandwich. All of the food was delicious and filling, so much so that neither of us finished everything either time. We were able to take away the leftovers the second time, and enjoyed them later in the day. The dining room is not large and the space is well utilized. Both of our servers were friendly and attentive, and we would definitely recommend and return whenever we were in the area!

Yelp
This restaurant is on point... Service is very good, food is also VERY good... We ordered the pacifico smoked salmon Benny which was fantastic, however the potatoes were too overly salty )and this is the only reason I'm not giving 5*.... I asked for some hot sauce and was offered a very nice homemade jalapeno sauce... and the three berry pancakes were delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant despite the wait.
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
Very busy with a line to get in and we could see why once we got our food. I had the salmon tacos and they were very good. The guacamole was amazing. The mango coconut marmalade that came with the breakfast plate was also very good.
google avatar

CP K.

Yelp
Cozy place with generous portions. It's busy, so be prepared to wait. But it's worth it.

Tom P.

Yelp
I'm an eggs Benedict snob the the Eggs Creole was the best Benedict I've ever had! Roasted potatoes were outstanding as well. Went to the Blue Fox two days in a row and I'd do it again. Get there when they open to avoid a line.
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
The quality of food, drinks, service, price and experience totally justify the long line outside its door! And the generous portions they give you! If you are light on the appetite, one dish per two people would stuff you full, but of course, having waited (and yearned) for a long time outside, you'd want to "eat your hearts out" haha! Although it's jam packed our lovely Australian waitress was patient, attentive and efficient. Highly recommend - it's worth the wait!
google avatar

Sugar L.

Yelp
I mean, they don't really need my review because they already have so many. But holy smokes. Such good food, amazing service even though it's small and packed. One of our faves when we're in town.
google avatar

Larry I.

Yelp
Yes, it's very good! The line is usually an hour, at least, but it's worth it. Try the maple latte.
google avatar

Allen S.

Yelp
4.5. Generous portions, really good food, and very attentive service. Go early though (on the weekend especially) if you want to be seated in the first wave as it's THAT popular. Kids had the classic French toast with chocolate chips, my wife had the Apple Charlotte pancakes, and I had the Fox's Grill. (Server had no issues substituting all bacon for me instead of the sausage.) Next time would have the kids split a single order as they couldn't finish entrees individually.
google avatar

Tyler F.

Yelp
Blue Fox Cafe is a wonderful place to grab a quick breakfast in Victoria. We were seated almost immediately and our server was so kind. The restaurant is small, so get there early, but the food is worth the wait!
google avatar

Valerie C.

Yelp
Amazing Brunch, big portions! Very tasty, service was great and line was not too long to wait!

Deb K.

Yelp
Very small restaurant and dining room. We waited in line for quite some time but were assured it was worth the wait. Yes it was! I had "eggs from hell" benedict. Delicious! My dining guests raved over the pancakes and salmon omelette. We also indulged in holiday drinks that were very tasty! Our server was on her game and treated us well!

Melissa G.

Yelp
Great farm fresh food. They had a Belgium hot coco that was decadent. The service was great! I would recommend it. The wait is about 35-45 minutes on a Sunday.

Mackenna A.

Yelp
One of the best breakfasts I've ever had, four of us all ordered different things and we all loved our meals. Totally worth the wait!!
google avatar

Kimberly E.

Yelp
After three days of dining out in Victoria, this was THE BEST place we ate at, by far. The drinks were delicious, the food was delicious, it was well worth the wait. (Plan on waiting in line outside for a table to open up.) Service was quick , friendly, and efficient. The cafe is tiny, so be prepared to sit close to your neighboring table. Bathrooms were super clean. My husband said it's the first place we've been in a long time where he wanted to sit with the food in his mouth to savor every flavor. It truly was delicious.
google avatar

Nora R.

Yelp
On our second attempt at eating here we made it before the line started! Well worth coming back for as they take normal breakfast fare and make it more special. Small dining space creates a cozy morning breakfast atmosphere.
google avatar

Kristy R.

Yelp
Honestly, I felt really proud of myself getting here by 9:30 AM. Until I saw the line! Not to mention how the line built up at least 50 deep behind me during the time waiting. The wait staff was absolutely amazing coming out and updating us often. I think we ended up waiting in line about 45 minutes before we were able to sit inside. Couldn't wait to get inside and try this amazing food. I did read the reviews on yelp and it already selected the Moroccan chicken eggs Benedict for myself. My partner ended up being a little boring and got the avocado toast. The Moroccan chicken eggs Benedict was amazing and so different!! I ended up absolutely loving it and was so pleased with my selection. The avocado toast was just average. Wish he would've gotten that lol. Service was great! Except I think we got the one off waitress. Our waitress was a little difficult to communicate with we had to repeat things a lot. For example I ordered a double espresso with warm milk. She was pretty bewildered by my order. It wasn't worth correcting her when she brought out some thing different. Oh well. It's quite small dining area and very popular, but the wait staff works well around this. I do highly recommend coming in, and I absolutely would come back!
google avatar

Joel U.

Yelp
Love the cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Glad we got here early. There was a line about 15 minutes before they opened. The coffee was great and the portions are just right. The food was fresh and delicious.

Jack

Yelp
Very welcoming staff. Food portions were great and I couldn't even finish my plate. Definitely worth the hype, drinks were also great. Would recommend the maple coffee!
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
Excellent service and fantastic food. We had the angel eggs bene and the gluten free French toast. Come prepared to wait outside for a table but worth the time spent.
google avatar

Zahra T.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Their food is so delicious and the service is so wonderful. It has that rustic homey feel to it which makes it even better when dining in. Unfortunately there's often a long line up so be prepared to wait but I can assure you, the wait is worth it.
google avatar

Mathew W.

Yelp
We had breakfast here on June 2, 2024. We ordered the Fox's Grill and Island Eggs. It was delicious and about what we expected. The place is quite small so bank on waiting for a table. I might suggest they offer a senior menu with smaller portions. That is easy to do for a breakfast service. One other thing they only had one jam for the toast. It would be nice to offer more choices even if not homemade.

Becky L.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! We went on a weekday in October so no wait. They have a home made pineapple jam with essence of lime that is to die for. If I lived in Victoria, I would be a regular at the Blue Fox!!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
So yummy! I loved everything about this place. The line look long but takes about 20-30 mins depending on group size. These were definitely the best plates here

Emily C.

Yelp
I always love bringing friends here when visiting - the food and service are always good, and its cute and cozy vibe is perfect for a day out in Victoria.
google avatar

Nat L.

Yelp
This is a cozy, hip establishment in the heart of downtown Victoria. The interior was adorable - their brick wall decorated with fox themed art, with little trinkets of the same scattered around the restaurant. We ordered their Ohana! Banana Cream pancakes and Island Eggs. Honestly, this was one of the best western pancakes I've had. The pancakes were served with sour cream, a flavour combination that is common in Latino dishes but one that had totally escaped my mind until the first bite of this dish. I loved that thid dish brought a sense of nostalgia with each bite! The Island Eggs were more traditional and didn't have a distinguishing signature touch, but I appreciate that the ingredient are sourced locally and their jam is homemade! If you're looking to dine here, I'd suggest coming just after they open to avoid waiting (especially on a rainy morning!) as they do get busy quite quickly. The portions here are also very generous, so make sure you come ready to eat!
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Honestly, was a bit disappointed with our visit here. Had the classic eggs benny and found it hard to eat (hard to cut through the bagel) also, it was lukewarm when served. Was ok, but had much better breakfasts while visiting Victoria in other locations.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
There's always a line outside for Blue Fox so you know it has to be good. I waited for about 30 minutes for a table and was seated outside which was totally fine because it was a nice day. I had been looking at the menu ahead of time so I already know what I wanted and ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict. This beautiful creation sits on top of some locally made bagels and some locally sourced ham and let me tell you. I'll never be able to go back to regular eggs Benny, this has ruined me in the best way. Everything about this meal was perfect. I would absolutely, no hesitation, order this again. The wait was completely worth it. Definitely visit if you're in the area.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
OVERALL: probably one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Get there early because there's going to be a huge line. I came here during a day trip to Victoria and got here at around 8:30am to line up. At that point, there was already a pretty big line forming up, but luckily the weather was nice. We waited around 20 mins to be seated, but since we were a party of two, it would have probably been longer if we had more people. We ordered the Fox's Grill and the Ohana Banana Cream french toast. Both were amazing but I think I preferred the grill a bit more. Everything was perfect in the plate - the mushrooms were perfectly grilled and so flavorful, the tomatoes were delicious, and the sausages and bacon were also amazing. The potatoes were also good but I honestly didn't have much because I wanted to save space in my stomach for the other food. The bread was also super good but I only had one slice so I could have room for the french toast. The Ohana french toast was delicious as well and a good complement to the salty food. It was a bit too syrupy though, especially since the bananas were coated in sugar. We didn't even use any of the extra syrup. This was also especially good because I've had the same style of french toast in Hawaii (where I think the banana/pecan combination originated from?) and I honestly liked this one better than the one I had there.
google avatar

Kailey X.

Yelp
This was delicious! We got the orange French toast, as well as their classic/signature breakfast option. Everything was well made. They do have a wait, it took us about 30 minutes since it's not a very large restaurant, but worth it!! We also got their specialty coffee with baileys coffee, and they do regular coffee refills once you're done!

Nancy S.

Yelp
Loved this place!!! Perfect adventurous options- amazing service by Jessica- get there early! Small and intimate!
google avatar

Yojna J.

Yelp
Blue Fox Café are frequently very busy, so we had to wait to get inside, but it was absolutely worth it. I strongly suggest the food because it was delicious and the portions were great for the price. In all honesty, one plate would have been sufficient for my partner and I. The service is fairly attentive, and the decor and atmosphere are also lovely. Nevertheless, despite being a little slow due to how busy they were, I would return and get some of their delicious breakfast!

Paul L.

Yelp
Great food. We came for breakfast and had a fine lunch due to the wait, but it was worth it.
google avatar

OccasionalReviewer Z.

Yelp
Heads-up: this place is very popular and has a significant wait time. We were in line for almost 45 min on a Monday morning. The service is excellent and food is good as well. Absolutely loved the Belgian hot chocolate. The Moroccan chicken Benny was great as well. I would recommend the place; as long as you don't have time constrained plans for the rest of day.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food! We were here for a family trip from Washington state and decided to give this a try as this place showed up all the way top of the yelp in this area. This was the best brunch I had in my life and would love to come back next time! P.S. look at that apple!! It's literal art piece!
