"Located in Jamaica Plain on the corner of Centre and Green Street, Blue Frog Bakery serves up some of the most raved-about eclairs, scones, and croissants in the neighborhood, as well as an impressive selection of breads. Chef and owner Brad Brown has operated the shop since 2004, and has become known to locals not only for supplying the neighborhood with outstanding pastries, but also for his leadership in the community. When the shop celebrated its 15th birthday in 2019, Brown was awarded with an honorary citation from both the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The shop doesn’t skimp on holiday items throughout the year, offering specialties like king cake during mardi gras, buche de noel and stollen at Christmas time, and tsoureki for Greek Easter. Blue Frog is worth a visit even when there’s a line out the door, and in the warmer months the customers can enjoy goodies on the patio. Stop in to try their weekend specials, or give them a call the next time you have a birthday coming up. The shop offers a selection of decadent decorated cakes and tarts, too." - Katie Draisen

Google
Local bakery with a small selection of classic pies, macarons, and pastries. On a serene Saturday morning stroll through JP, I stumbled upon this charming bakery. It had a cozy, small-town bakery vibe, and manning the counter was an elderly lady, whose skilled hands and warm smile hinted at years of perfecting the art of home-style baking. Since pies seemed to be their specialty, I opted for a small pecan pie along with an assortment of small pastries. The almond croissant was decent, but the pecan pie was exceptional. It was everything a classic pecan pie should be: not excessively sweet, with a moist filling wrapped in a perfectly baked crust. Some of my other favorites included the chocolate cupcake and the halva bomb. If you're in a mood for the comfort of traditional American pies and homemade pastries, Blue Frog is definitely worth a try.

Google
Blue Frog never disappoints. There is always something delicious at the counter, or on their loaf shelves! The plain croissant was maybe a little less flaky than I expected but the flavor and texture were delicious. The cranberry scone had a perfect level of sweetness and tartness. I have had a variety of muffins and pastries here, all have been delicious. On my next visit I'll definitely be trying out a baguette and a donut! They only make donuts on the weekends.

Google
Such a cute bakery with amazing baked goods! We bought a cinnamon roll and heated it up and it was a 10/10. If I could eat an almond croissant from here every day I would! The normal croissant is also good but the almond one is on another level. Every time I’ve gone in the workers are always so nice!

Google
Amazing homemade croissant! Flakey on the outside, buttery layers on the inside. Will definitely be back to try the coffee and some other pastries! PSA: $5 card minimum and there will be a line on weekends but it moves relatively quick. 2nd visit: Came back and tried the mushroom, onion and cheese quiche. It was great! The crust dough was a little crunchy but the filling was creamy and flavorful. Glad I came back!

Google
Tiny neighborhood bakery, I can see it easily getting crowded as I was just in there with my toddler and it was a squeeze. Everything looks and smelled delicious, we got a wide variety of things to try. Will be back!! The fig bar is to die for. Bagels on weekends so we can't wait to try those!

Google
Everything here!! Essentials like muffins, croissants..all homemade taste and touch. To the fancier things like cakes and pies. Delicious, simple, absolutely pleasant. I worked here shortly as well and it was one of my favorite jobs; Brad is the best!! So happy to see them thriving and being a lively crucial neighborhood joint.

Really nice bakery shop . They got the best baguette in town.

Have purchased holiday treats from Blue Frog for the past 2 years and they’re always a crowd favorite. Thank you for the work you do! :)

Yelp
Delicious baked goods! I was saving the perfect bit of my strawberry Danish and I can't explain how devastated I was when the strawberry fell off and ruined my perfect bite. I found the almond croissant a little underwhelming, but the bruleed sugar croissant was knocked out of the park amazing. I can't wait to try more. For my own record I will admit I was underwhelmed with the chai late as well, not much flavor. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Tried this place about 4 years ago, tried again recently. The service is borderline hostile and apparently this works for them somehow. I know it's very hard to operate a small business, so I am surprised to see this place still open after I see all the reviews and I've had my experiences here. It's one thing if the employees are hostile and rude. But I think the people that are acting this way are the owners! I think my encounter the other day was with the owner. I was the only customer in there and I had a few questions about the limiter selection at noon. Curt, one word answers. Impatient service. The person acted annoyed when I said I wanted an item and I guess I referred to it incorrectly. Just go to Fiores on South Street for everything. If you don't want to go that far and you just want some chocolate chip cookies, go to Same Old Place... They actually sell these individual chocolate chip cookies in cellophane that are good. If you want higher priced, albeit vegan baked items, cross Centre and go to FOMU. There's no reason to be cold to a single patron in your establishment. 0 for 2 for me, and I'm not alone here clearly. The baked items I purchased were fine. I would have been happier with a Snickers bar.

Yelp
This is a little jewel of a bakery, sophisticated, delicious breads, cookies and fancy tarts...and chocolate croissants! Hidden a few doors off Center St and tiny but mighty!

Jenny T.

Yelp
Food: DELICIOUS PASTRIES! Big, filling, heavy, but every single one of these pastries was absolutely amazing. Nothing to complain. They def kept me going for the entire day. Recommend getting both sweet AND savory! Location: I don't venture out to JP that much but this is def a hidden gem. They had outdoor seating so I got a coffee and ate some of the pastries then took some back (didn't stay in my fridge long lol I devoured them). Also very T-accessible.

Olivia G.

Yelp
Amazing everything here. And the women who run it are so nice!!! I love this spot! Definitely try any and all the breads and the brioche is top tier.

Lisa B.

Yelp
They are open during Quarantine! We set out on a Saturday morning to get some doughnuts at a place down the street, but that place was PACKED so we opted to swing by Blue Frog. There were about 10 different types of delicious looking pastries, plus bagels and a variety of fresh bread on a shelf in the back. We got a chocolate bread pudding muffin (so quirky and yummy!) per recommendation of the cashier. We also got a cinnamon roll, strawberry danish and a loaf of 7 wheat bread. Everything tasted fresh, the service was polite. Come on by to support a local business during the lockdown!!

Lori L.

Yelp
I really like their multigrain Pullman bread! It's hardy and chewy and makes amazing toast. Great to see Rao's coffee outside of western mass too. I haven't tried the bake goods, but they sure look good!

Grant R.

Yelp
This little bakery off Centre Street has a lovely selection of scrumptious goodies. Ask them for a recommendation!

Elisabet V.

Yelp
Alarmingly hostile service. There are plenty of better bakeries in town, no need to subject yourself to this.

Masha S.

Yelp
Bagels weren't the best (can see a video of our experience below) but there is no doubt these guys know how to whip up some good pastries. FYI they only make bagels on the weekend https://youtu.be/U9pmVl9uZ9Q

Yelp
Came here today because I was in the hood and Pigs Fly was closed due to Easter. Since I had walked to the area I decided to go to Blue Frog as I was looking for a morning baked good. The woman behind the counter was rude ....there was no one in there and she acted as if me asking about an item on the menu was a waste of her time. Baked good were underwhelming, but it was the service that stood out to me. I chocked it up to she is "overwhelmed" because she is open on Easter, but based on the reviews here this is how this place rolls.

Kelly O.

Yelp
I've had a variety of baked goods from here (tartes, cakes, pies, croissants), and they've all been pretty solid. I'm partial to the $20 apple crumble pie, which was well-made, balanced, delicious, and held up well over the course of the holidays (and made for excellent leftovers). Hard to predict what they'll have and when they'll have it aside from the few things they post on social media, so it's a bit of a gamble what'll be there when you stop by- so maybe don't make a special trip if you're looking for something specific.

Yelp
I have been coming to Blue Frog for years. The pastries are delicious, and the service has always been great. I have also ordered several cakes here for birthdays and other special occasions, and my guests have always been impressed and delighted. This bakery is a true Jamaica Plain gem!

Courtney P.

Yelp
I've driven past the Blue Frog Bakery several times and decided to stop in today and give it a try. Perhaps I should have arrived earlier in the morning or not come the day before Thanksgiving - as the selection was vastly limited and most of the pies were pre-ordered for the holiday; however, I managed to try two bakery items. I ordered an almond croissant and a cherry almond cake. The almond croissant was ok - not the best I've ever had but decent. The outside was a little over-cooked but the inside was flaky and had good almond flavor. The individual cherry almond cake was my favorite of the two. It was moist and the cherries were delicious. It wasn't too sweet, just subtle and a nice treat. The shop is small, and like I said, the selection was limited. But the pies looked delicious and so did the fresh bread. So if you want to shop small and shop local, I'd suggest buying your baked goods at the Blue Frog Bakery.

Yelp
I've been here once but I've visited the bakery's tent at farmers' markets. I want to like this place; I really do. I have a weakness for local bakeries but I also have high expectations for my baked goods. The chocolate croissant was most disappointing as it was dry inside and quite tasteless. It didn't have that French croissant flavor and texture to it. In general, the croissants here are below average. Totally off the mark. The sugar brioche was okay, but a bit dry. However, there was some decent amount of egg in the brioche. I would've given this an average grade. What saved this bakery from a lower grade was the chocolate almond croissant bread pudding. Yeah, I know what it is: old croissants that are baked in custard. However, there was enough good chocolate flavor to the pudding and it was moist enough. Heck, if bread pudding can't be moist, nothing can. Prices aren't terrible but not impressive either, especially with the quality of the products sampled. Service has been okay the times I've encountered Blue Frog but I seem to be an afterthought every time, which is quite discouraging.

Yelp
Great little bakery off the main street of JP. Delicious bread and good looking selection of cakes, pastries, and morning carbs like muffins, etc. Reasonably priced, friendly service, and excellent COVID precautions! Worth a few steps off the beaten path!

Frankie G.

Yelp
Stopped in for a simple croissant. They were out (sad face). How can a pastry-based bakery be out of croissants by noon? Luckily, I saw some very appetizing sausage rolls by the register and bought one. A bit pricey but after getting home and warming it up, it was absolutely delicious. The service is very friendly but the place is tiny, so don't come for breakfast with a group like some patisseries. Overall I was very happy. Only deducted a star because I really wanted a good plain croissant that day.

Ammy T.

Yelp
Though I came in hoping to buy something for the next day's breakfast, I was treated so rudely here, I walked out without buying anything and won't return. I thought something was a muffin, but the young woman behind the counter barked, "That's a cake." It really didn't matter to me if it was a cake or a muffin, so I inquired what kind of berries were in it. She pointed to two identical looking items and said one was one kind of berry and the other was some other berry. She said this so quickly I couldn't follow, so I just said, "That one," pointing to one. "Which one?" she demanded, so I pointed again, and again said, "That one." "Which berry?" she insisted. I didn't know what kind of berry it was and I didn't care, I just knew I wanted that muffin/cake thing in front of me. But she insisted on my naming the berry. That was the point at which I walked out empty-handed. The baked goods are not outstanding and service is awful, so my business now goes elsewhere.

Hannah R.

Yelp
So my friend's roommate used to work here and thus had to go here when I visited it (because I heard about all the amazing treats this place made!) It was a really really hard choice. Brioche muffins, scones, cookies, cupcakes. I knew I was done for when I saw the fruit tarts. I went with the cranberry and I regret nothing. Gotta get there early if you want croissants!

kim p.

Yelp
If you like pastry this is the place for you. The quality of their hand-made pastry is outstanding. I mean top notch, you will not be disappointed. Such a great local gem!

Dee B.

Yelp
I came in to buy a croissant today at Oct 10 at 230PM and the person working at the bakery was literally the rudest person I have ever encountered. She not only rolled her eyes and sighed as I asked her what croissants were available, but literally said nothing as I paid and stormed off as if I had committed some grave injustice. She shouted at me about the receipt as I opened the door to leave. Unbelievable! I live in JP and have long supported local businesses, both this one and the other location (now closed) by Green Street. I won't EVER come back. This person, if memory serves me, has been rude to me before and it seems like her MO. Apparently the bakery is fine with employing her.

Amy M.

Yelp
Meh. Came in for the almond croissant, and it was laughably bad. I'm not even sure it can be called a croissant. It was more like a tough, bready crescent roll stuffed with a filling that tasted like marzipan. Had that overly sweet and fake almond extract flavor just like the grocery store tubes of almond paste. Also got a cinnamon muffin. It was tasty. Nothing I couldn't make myself.

C.T. I.

Yelp
The best croissants this side of Paris. They sell out quickly so come early if you want your favorites!

James K.

Yelp
The jam bars were too sweet and tasted stale. When I asked about coffee, the woman working there acted as if I were inconveniencing her.

Ela M K.

Yelp
Best croissants in Boston. Their bread is also absolutely delicious! Friendly staff, too!

dudley m.

Yelp
Wasn't sure if I was alone in receiving curt reply to my one question when I bothered to visit in person, but I see I am not alone. Rude customer service has not been corrected it seems. I entered an empty shop for the first time and looked around. When I asked the cost of a muffin, I was told me to read a chalkboard list of prices to locate the cost of a muffin. I'll never know how much a muffin there costs, as I walked out.

Jenn A.

Yelp
Terrific neighborhood bakery. Very friendly customer service, good coffee and hands down the BEST quiches in boston. My only wish is that they'd make the quiches more consistently in the weekends because some days they don't have em and other days, they run out fast!

Nick S.

Yelp
I have always been a fan of blue frog, they make the best apricot danish I've ever tasted. The quality of this place is undeniable. I'm writing because I just had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had and I am hoping blue frog will take note. It's my mother's 60th birthday and I'm trying to order her a cake. I looked around on yelp at a local bakeries and somebody raved about a coconut cake at blue frog. I laid out several options for my mom to choose from and that's the one she liked. So I called blue frog to ask about the coconut cake and what size a cake I might need to serve 10 people, and the person I spoke to seemed like she was not interested in talking to me and didn't know a lot about the cakes they offer. I thanked her and hung up, then called back a week later. This time I spoke to a woman who was so unfriendly I hung up in the middle of our conversation. She was outrageously rude. I called back a few days later and spoke to another woman who just didn't know much about their business and asked me to call back later. I called back at the time she suggested and nobody picked up the phone for several tries. Eventually the very rude person picked up again, I tried to order my coconut cake and again she was so rude I hung up in the middle of our conversation. I tried to send them a personal email to let them know this has happened and it was impossible to find such an email address on their website. Blue frog! The best food in the world will not help your buisness if I cannot buy it from you! I may give you another shot but I am pretty sure you have lost a customer. I'm OK with that if you are. PS I bought a different expensive cake at whole foods for my wife's 40th birthday last month, and they were unbelievably friendly and helpful. And I hate giving Whole Foods business. Blue frog, you are not helping.

Meizi H.

Yelp
I'm a little bit disappointed by this neighborhood bakery. Their chocolate cookies was dry, and blueberry and cherry custard tarts were okay. As a matter of the fact, it tasted better the next day when toasted. Maybe I am spoiled by other bakeries.

Diane S.

Yelp
Best Almond croissant I've eaten. The lemon poppyseed muffin was delicious - not too sweet, with right amount of lemon.

David P.

Yelp
Blue Frog bakery is okay. The baguette and croissants really aren't anything particularly good, but it's nice having a spot that does these in the neighborhood. The service is consistently mediocre. The muffins are definitely not the highlight.

Abbie F.

Yelp
Delicious croissants, and I loved the strawberry Danish. Their muffins were also very good. I have determined I don't like scones so I won't comment on those. We had a variety of different options on Saturday morning and I liked all of the ones I tried. The plain croissant was the best of the bunch. I didn't get to go inside because my friend picked them up but I was able to sample them all!

Virginia L.

Yelp
I got the dark chocolate chip cookies, a blueberry muffin, and an almond croissant. I liked how: -the cookie was really big, had a bit of salt for complexity, and texture was pleasant but it's sweeter than I had wanted. -The blueberry muffin was good; standard, tasty muffin. -The croissant was buttery, but not flaky, but it tasted yummy nonetheless. Almond croissant has a marzipan filling which tastes weird to some people but if you like it the croissant was quite pleasing in taste than texture.

Marissa M.

Yelp
Stopped in today with my SO after it being one of the only available options for pastries in the area (due to COVID). The barren options were in the display case, we ended up ordering a blueberry muffin and a cranberry frangipane cake -- side note, like other reviewers have mentioned; I did initially refer to it as a muffin. They did correct me immediately; none of the items were labeled-this would help tremendously. After my man and I left, he mentioned he didn't like the vibe that the clerk gave off. It's funny because I had been thinking that, but we were so excited about trying the place I didn't want to nitpick after he had just bought us two pastries for $8. The price was a little surprising but if it's worth it we don't mind for a local business. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the pastries off rip. Everything was off, they tasted stale and extremely hard. Right when I decided that I was done eating, I noticed a black hair baked into the frangipane cake. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I understand these things happen. But based off of our brief interaction there today and a significant number of reviews agreeing that their customer service blows, I'm not going to bother bringing it to their attention because the baked goods were nothing to return for anyway.

Beth H.

Yelp
Blue Frog..how do I love thee, let me count the reasons why... --Local! Woohoo --Bae says the coffee is good (I dont drink coffee, myself) --great muffins / cookies / custard tarts --chocolate croissants are tasty and buttery. Though I will say their croissants are more bread-y than crispy/flaky, so just know that going in. --they often give pooches a biscuit! My dog friend Jake always makes a bee-line for Blue Frog when we pass by. One potential downside is there isn't seating (except a window bench to sit/wait if there were a line). So if you're wanting to sit and have a cup of coffee and chat with a friend over pastries, this isn't the best spot for you! Also, $5 credit card minimum!

Morgan D.

Yelp
This has become my favorite bagel Dive in JP. Cousin to the La Rena Rosa (the artisan pizza shop down the street) this bakery offers you a wonderful assortment of fresh baked delights. For me, it's all about the bagels. And let me say that I've tried other places on Centre St: JP Licks, City Feed, etc and when it comes to the bagels nothing comes close. Admittedly I haven't tried Fiore's bagels. But I come to Blue Frog every Saturday morning and stock up for the weekend. Service is super friendly and refreshingly slow .

Beth M.

Yelp
Very happy to live nearby an authentic delicious bakery. Priced right for the real thing. Coffee and Lattes are tasty too! I look forward to my weekend visits here. Thanks!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Went in here this morning. Got a really good cranberry egg tart, cinnamon roll, and coffee. The guy working was really nice. No room to hang out here but it's a nice little place to get food to go and I actually like that the pastries are limited. You don't need 50 options at every bakery. What I really like is that my coffee came ready to drink and not scalding hot like at some places. I factor this in heavily because it's just ridiculous that some cafes don't control the temperature and you either burn your tongue or have to wait 30 min to drink it, and yes it can be done. I go to some places that consistently give me coffee at the right temp. The drink fridge was almost empty, my only complaint.

Jenn S.

Yelp
We were going to be in Jamaica Plain for an errand on the way to meet friends for dinner. Having told them we'd bring some sweet treats for dessert, I did a quick search to see if there were any good bakeries in the area and - voila! I found Blue Frog. My husband pulled over on the street and I ran in to get a quick selection. Quick is not the right word, as I could NOT decide!! Luckily, the girl who helped me was so friendly & patient - she even waited as I ran back out to the car to ask my husband's advice. I ended up getting a selection of 4 mini desserts. I think I did 1 chocolate cupcake; 2 custards/tarts - one blueberry & one cranberry; and 1 apple "bread pudding..." By the time we ate dessert, I was SO FULL, so I didn't taste everything, but the bread pudding was def my fav. And everyone was very happy. And it only came out to $14.34 (plus a $1 credit from LevelUp!). I will def be back to Blue Frog the next time I'm in the area and need something sweet. Or some bread, as it looked DELISH.

Audrianna Y.

Yelp
Absolutely disgusting customer service, the lady that worked at the counter today was so rude. I asked for a latte and she said they only had skim and almond milk; so i said skim milk. Then she proceeded to pour 1% milk into the latte, so i innocently asked her "Oh I thought you said you only had skim milk?". She then argued with me and said that it was skim and then threw out the latte, and said I'm giving you a refund; when that's not what i wanted. I told her it wasn't a big deal that it wasn't skim milk, i thought she just misheard me when i said skim. She just had a terrible attitude the whole time. I've never experienced this type of service in my life, very dissapointed.

Irese S.

Yelp
I love eclairs, so I asked for on on my first visit, then she said that $5.35! I almost said no thanks, but hey maybe it's the best ever. So disappointed, the shell was a bit soggy, the cream and chocolate glaze were simply mediocre. Bummer.

John D.

Yelp
I really enjoy stopping into this little family run bakery while walking my dog. Their croissants are delicious! I've always had really friendly service - the older Yelp reviews reporting rude service puzzle me. Brad and his wife Ginger are always helpful and they seem to work really hard running their small business and baking delicious looking treats and breads. Supporting small businesses like this enriches our community. Look for the big Blue Frog on Green St. near the corner of Centre St. and stop in for a treat. You'll soon be a regular!

Ruth S.

Yelp
I love the pastries and the baguette and get their weekly Challah on Friday (which is amazing). I've been a loyal customer for 10 years and am always treated with respect by the staff and the owner Brad and his wife Ginger. I love that they do a lot to promote local businesses and their product is the bomb.

Sara B.

Yelp
We took my mom here for Mother's Day and ordered one of almost everything. ALL of it was bad. Everything tasted like it'd been sitting and drying out for hours. Things that were supposed to be soft where hard as crackers. Just a horrible disappointment.

Kate T.

Yelp
Consistently rude customer service and average baked goods. Its like they're trying to go out of business. Will not be going back since it was my third time being given an icy death stare by one of their employees when I ask to buy something in a friendly manner. No thank you blue frog! I hope that employee gets help.

Pasta L.

Yelp
Oh Jamaica Plain, how You've changed since I moved 5 years ago! Me and my girlfriend at the time now My wife decided to move to NY finally to manage our start ups. One is restaurant another a boutique. I bring this up because we deal directly with customers. And I cannot believe the reviews about one of our favorite places in JP! The Blue Frog!! The owner Brad is simply amazing ! And with him he has an amazing colorful staff of bakers with him ! Yes they all bake there! We have never had a bad expirence EVER!!!!!! In the yearsssssss we had been going there, ever! We even make it a point to stop by every time to see some of our favorite shops and the people who run them! Gojng threw some Of these reviews about the bakery makes me remember how JP is changing. The pretentious is absolutely DISGUSTING I read one review where the girl actually went back to say that the pastries look old, when that wasn't In the original review. That is a very strange thing to do no ? Very passive aggressive behavior to say Someone is a smart ass, I'm pretty sure you couldn't wait to let The rest of the world know what you really think. And good for you! But I'm here to defend this place . The way we have gotten treated has always been my wife loves how snarky Brad and his crew are and are very knowledgeable about what they make there! These people work baking and help customers at the same time. So be patient if there's no one in there doesn't mean they aren't busy. I can't believe how rude people can be.... I just want people to Know this is an awesome Little place with amazing bread and pastries and the staff is legit. Maybe the people complaining are just whining assholes? Just my Thought! All the best to the Blue! One of the best of JP!!!!

Maria J.

Yelp
The items from the bakery are awesome. The service, a lot to be desired. The woman behind the counter was not pleasant and I feel bad for the owner who have people with little friendliness and attention to the customer. I purchased a small pastry and left her a tip to see if her day gets better. My visit was yesterday at fish pm.

Mirbobbie A.

Yelp
Went back to Blue Frog this afternoon after not having been there for at least a year. Worst service I've ever had there. Sales Clerk treated me like I was the bane of her existence. I asked for a muffin that was actually a small cake and she cut me off and talked to me like I was stupid. To top it all off, the cookie and mini cake were both just so-so. I will not be going back.

Mark R.

Yelp
Superb bread and pastries. Always a pleasant experience. Quality of baked goods is exquisite. Always treated very politely. Mark

Franklin B.

Yelp
Almond croissants enjoyed by staff . Found the bagels to be a bit on the smaller size. Over all the food is fresh the front case make things look so good and delicious. Enjoy your frog.
